The Marines of the NSS Nerkat got suited up. After, of course, the to be expected witty banter between the marines as they did so their rides showed up soon after.

Not in the form of a pumpkin carriage, either. At least, it would be a severally deformed pumpkin carriage. In anycase, they called them Vipers as that was their names. Clever, that. There were four of them, with each able to carry 5 with it then being cramped... So, being that there were 16 total marines, each Viper would thus hold four marines, making it not quite so cramped.

The marines were assigned, though.

To the first Viper, there was; Keats, Newman, Dream, and Wilde. The auxiliary squad, more or less.

To the second; Saelus, Decane, Sanroma, and Balfour

To the third; Rui, Penton, Harrison, and Lyric

And, finally, to the forth; St.Vincent, Weynolt, McCain, and Zhen Wu

Almost the very moment the last marine was on board the Vipers were off, heading to their planetary objective from the NSS Nerkat, traveling across the system quickly. The communications were open between everyone, the pilots, all the marines, everyone. All connected to one radio channel to speak between each other. One of the pilots began speaking... It was female with a slight Yamataian accent.

"Alright. We'll be there really soon, please hold onto the grips above you." She was, of course, talking to the marines, "Ride is going to be few bumpy, but we aren't going to hit any enemies." If her speaking mistake was noticed by the other not-PCs, it wasn't pointed out.

"E.T.A.," Another voice began, this time a gruff male's without accent, "Under a minute. Stef! Remember to compensate so you don't tip backwards again!"

"... Right..." Came the previous woman's voice, apparently she being nicknamed 'Stef'. There was a noticeable amount of embarrassment in it, too.

"Alright, Chief. I'll stick with you." Harrison quickly checked all of his equipment and spun his wrist chainguns up to speed for a firing dismount.

After getting another earful from the chief for the images she had forwarded, (And another humored response from herself) Amelia boarded the Viper with three of the others. Her eyes fell upon private Zhen Wu. She frowned slightly, having an odd feeling about him. She made one last system check, setting the range of her sensors and recalibrating the targeting, and warmed up her PLA. She didn't think they'd be dropped right into a firefight, but it didn't hurt to be prepared.

It seemed that Fay was the first one aboard the second Viper since no one else was around when the medic entered. He waited quietly for the fireworks to start as a small feeling of dread seemed to grow larger and larger as the seconds crawled past.

ON: The Vipers, all in unison, began to shake a little as the engines kicked in at a higher velocity, shooting through the empty void. It stopped soon after, of course... Not like you need to keep your engines going constantly through space.

Amelia hardly noticed the shaking inside her armor. A brief tune going through her head as she descended, distracting her from that familiar little voice in the back of her head begging for attention...

"Hrm... the VOID's OS looks fine, but I want to see if this baby can swing!" Gyles muttered to himself privately, his comm systems off line for the moment. The other people in his Viper were being quiet, but it was to be expected. This wasn't going to be a party, even if with the short-lived novelty of testing out a new machine.

Ian hadn't bothered to grab a seat in his Viper. The Warrant Officer stood at the front of the carrying area, watching the door of the drop vehicle. His FIRE armor seemed to be almost completely still, other than the occasional bump generated by the ships movement.

Rose went over another check, and let a long breath go. This is what I get for thinking I wouldn't have to come back here. Backup, they were supposed to be something like that. It suited her fine, though. Maybe he'll get shot, at least. Fuck it'd be nice to see karma work once.

Kagura, once she'd gotten into the Viper and settled in, had dozed off to catch some sleep before they actually got there.

Over all of the Vipers, echoing inside the marines' helmets, the gruff voice smoke again, "Alright, we're entering atmosphere now!" It was rather loud sounding, too. More of a yell. And then the Vipers began to shake again, much much more this time.

Amelia's focus returned to her immediate surroundings. She rose from her seat and leveled her LPA. Her eyes fixated on the hatch as she prepared to exit with the rest of the squad. She impulsively ran a diagnostics check on her communications to make sure they were working. Everything checked out...

Gyles lowered his VOID's tactical visor and glanced over at Rose's armor for a second, opening a channel with her. "Everything alright?"

"Don't get sick maypole." Dream replied, "I'm fine. How is your arm?"

"Ngh I wish that guy would shut up, he's too loud..." Kagura muttered in her helmet and let her head lull again as she nodded off again quietly.

"Good enough. A bit bruised, but not even a scar on it." Gyles answered, twisting his arm up and down.

Adrian took a moment to open a comm line to Amelia. "You're not going to fall to pieces down there on me, right?" The medic's voice had a good hint of humor in it, although the medic did have some concern for the woman.

Amelia clicked her tongue a little, "I don't rattle easily. What may have been problematic back onboard the Nerkat would be an asset on the battlefield. Watch your own ass and then we can talk about it after we're done killing here." She finished her message with an image of the Chief looking at an oddly shaped boulder, oblivious to a battle around him.

The shaking stopped, although it felt like they all were being pulled downwards with a small degree of force as the Vipers slowed down dramatically. And in the process of a few more seconds, the previously listed Viper would suddenly emit a rather loud bang as it crashed hard into the ground, sending the four marines rather hard into the ground. The other Vipers, through, stopped their forceful decent and the rear hatches opened, about four feet above the ground. A small drop.

"Whoa." Kagura said, violently jolted out of her nap as they got to the planet in the same rough fashion. "Aw man that pilot doesn't know what he's doing."

Amelia jumped down from the Viper, quickly scanning her surroundings. She stood upright after seeing no hostiles. "Area cl-" She heard as much as felt the impact of one of the vipers hitting the ground. "What happened, Everyone alright?" She frowned and bit her lip. Things were already going awry it seemed...

Adrian just smiled, eschewing a reply before the door to the craft popped open... and showed him a downed Viper. "Oh fuck... Auxiliary squad! Report in!" He hopped from the ship to the ground, plasma cannon at the ready.

"Fuck!" Rose almost bit her tongue when they went down, the deck had jumped right out at them! "Who'd they let fly this thing?" She grumbled, raising herself back up. "All right, let's go live-anyone hurt?" The medic checked, just to be sure.

"Ugh." Gyles grunted as the Viper made an abrupt, and very rough landing. He was otherwise unharmed, and expected the rest of the passengers to be the same. These were state-of-the-art powered armor, not cardboard-thin Cyclones. "The landing sucked, but we're alright, Adrian. How did the other Vipers land?"

"Like shit apparently." Kagura said, hopping off the Viper and looked over at the others. "They gotta train their pilots better."

Ian's voice crackled over the comm. "What the fuck just happened? We lose anyone?" He motioned to the marines in his Viper, ordering them out of the ship. "Go! And get that crash site secured, Marines."

The very same gruff pilot spoke to the marines, more notably to Kagura, "You got hit, dumb ass." The 'crashed' Viper slowly raised up from the ground, displacing some more dirt from the small little crater it made. The hatch opened to allow the marines out, although the Viper continued to swat a little back and forth while the others were still.

"C'mon folks. We have to bail out of this thing and get our bearings. I'll go point so I can Barrier Shield us as needed." Gyles told the other people in the Viper, stepping out of the large transport gunship and making passive scans of the environment.

"Bah shut up you crazy old bat." Kagura growled back to the pilot. "At least it seems like everyone's ok."

"Unless someone is no longer able to fight, which I doubt, we should keep going, sir." Amelia extended the range of her sensors a little bit as she looked towards the direction of their objective, which her HUD so kindly pointed out.

"Nepleslia's finest, everyone." Ran had jumped down on the ground next to Weynolt, apparently unconcerned wether or not the Auxilliary Squad was alright. "You heard the man. My guys, set up a perimeter around the crashed Viper. We need to secure it so that no fucking Reds come and raid some of the parts." Ran's VOID started walking towards the crashed Viper, only to see it fucking get back up. "Only I can call my Marines dumbasses, you pogue fuckin' flyboy. Now go fly around and cover us. I sure hope you fuckers can shoot better than you can fuckin' fly."

Rose exited the wreckage next, running a check of her armour's system just in case the minor problem had knocked something loose. She needed everything running, "So what, we have incoming or they just wanted to tap us to let us know they saw us?" The Marine sighed, and began to search for the nearest unknown target, if any.

Ian's heavily armored body hit the dirt, just in time to see the Viper start taking off again. "Oh, for fuck's sake. And that asshole Major told me not to worry. Least he could do would be give us a pilot with an IQ higher than room temperature. Rui, get some scouts out. I want to know the greeting party is coming before I meet it."

"From the looks of things, we were pulled by something. Probably a graviton beam projector. So shit... they've spotted us." Gyles answered, as he deployed his drones and made them circle around his unit.

"Stef?" Came another pilot's voice, male, light sounding. They're helmets were still in sync, apparently.

"I-... I'm okay..." Came the previous Yamataian voice, sounding a little shaky.

The gruff voice spoke up again, "Negetive, marine. I'm afraid we're to sit tight in this landing zone until you call us out for any fire support. To remain undetected. Stef' hit a shuttle, damn thing is shredded to bits..." He paused, "He are not detected, at least not yet."

"Yeah well that makes hunting them down easier at least." Kagura said, deploying an observation drone to aid in the scouting. "We can set up a defense here because they're more than likely going to come to investigate first of all, we deal with them then we can get to the objective." she said.

"Uh. Yeah. So I guess they have blind, deaf, retarded unipeds manning their sensor stations?" Gyles grumbled to the pilots. "Like I said before. They've spotted us."

"We hit a WHAT?" Ian spat into the comm line. "You ran through a shuttle? Who's fucking shuttle?"

"One of their's. Troop carrier, probably. And it isn't like they AREN'T expecting troops to be landed, just not where, marine." The gruff voice spoke again, "... I'd recommend you start setting out..."

"Is there any reason we are standing right out here in the open then? If they're going to come investigate, I'd like to, if nothing else, get the first shot." Amelia sighed slightly. Whose idea was this anyway?

Ian shook his head and mumbled beneath his breath. "Squads, split up. And Rui, where the fuck are our scouts?"

"Cut the chatter. We're gonna go hunt some fucking Reds. Kagura, Harrison and Lyric are with me. Sanroma, take the rest and divide yourselves into fireteams. You're our scouts." Ran rolled his neck around and opened a line with Adrian and Ian. "Adrian, I guess you guys might wanna linger in the rear, or some shit." Ran turned to the three with him and motioned to 'hurry the fuck up' with his rifle, as he headed towards their destination. "I got your fuckin' scouts already!"

"Marines and stealth..think that was the problem to begin with." Rose noted sardonically. "Let's get this picnic go'n Newman." She fell into place with the others.

Adrian grunted. "Fun. Auxilary squad, form up."

"Yeah let's get going." Kagura said to catch up with Ran her forearm weapons ready to go. "I'll hang back though considering my armor."

"Gotcha." Gyles replied, falling into line.

END

The landscape the Marines would find themselves was this;

It was dawn. Or it seemed that way, the sun was in the horizon casting a orange light across the sky. There were quite a few patches of clouds, although not the dark, water spewing kind. Just... Clouds. Not to say it was cloudy, though.

They were situated in a rather small bit of flat land, enough for the Vipers to beable to land, really, before the hills started up again. While the ones surronding them were fairly gentle, small little bumps in the ground, not to far away were the steeper, much more predomiant hills that blocked one's vision.

And there were bigger behind those, although not to much. There wasn't another visible level of steepness past this larger hill, which could be a very very tiny mountain of sorts. This large hill/small mountain was also in the direction they had to go, by word of their HUDs; North.

Being that it was Dawn, and this world did seem to have rainfall, even though it was quite warm in the region, (Armors would read 74 degrees, although this had little difference on the marines being they were in isolated suits) and so there was a good amount of morning dew on the ground that would cause someone's footing to slip out from under them if their weight was to uneven, or climbing up a, el gasp, large slope.

Oh yes, if there was a deity of sorts, or some other reality tweaking force in the vicinity, it certainly didn't enjoy our protagonists.

With the hills in the way, though, there wasn't much to see at all. Although, if one looked hard enough they could see, in the VERY far distance tiny dots that the armors might identify as Vipers, the Green drop troops as they plummeted into the atmosphere, making little burning trails in their wake, or the much harder to spot variety of shuttles which the Reds seemed to be using. There wasn't anything larger, though.

Not even any birds.

It was just them, some hills, and a currently invisible enemy that they had to avoid until choice.

Harrison gladly stood near where the Viper crashed Viper, holding his PAL at parade rest. He turned his head towards Ran.

"So. When d'you think the enemy will decide to open up on us?"

ON

As the squads brought themselves together, a channel opened between Ian, Adrian, and Ran. "Alright, asshats. Let's get this shit on the road. Keep this channel open, will you?"

"They're gonna fucking decide when to open up on us when they figure out that there's a platoon of Greens ready to grease their piece of shit asses." Ran sighed, motioning for his squad to expand the size of their patrol. "I hear you, Adrian. Just make sure your medics aren't too fucking far behind."

"We wouldn't be doing you much good if we're all forty miles away anyway." Adrian switched to his squad channel. "Alright, spread out a bit and keep on the boys in front of us. Try not to fuckin' shoot them when the shit hits the fan, aye?"

Ran had eventually started to negotiate his way up the hill, crouching low so as to keep his profile hidden behind the apex of the hill. The last thing he needed was to be silhouetted against the sky with a whole Red battalion in front of him, or something. "I want Sanroma's squad to divide and guard our flanks while my guys and me form a battle line on the hill. Keep your asses low to the ground and above all, observe before engaging."

"Seriously, we're not going to get shit done if we're just going to sit and patrol. Use the Vipers to do that and radio back what they see to us," Kagura growled at them before pushing out her sensors and moving ahead to get up the hill, staying low as she did to get a look over it. "It's time we just storm in there and blast them straight to hell."

"I'd rather us do the fucking patrolling than the Vipers. If one of those goes down, then we gotta rush over there, secure the landing site and compromise the fucking mission." Ran peeked his head over the apex of the hill, keeping his SBR close to him. "They can replace us, no problem. Vipers are a different matter."

Amelia tweaked her sensors so that they wouldn't be able to be picked up by the Red's radars (If they had any.) and crouched down as she moved forward. She actually moved towards the base of the hill. While this didn't give her as good of a view as Ran's position did, she was a lot less likely to be spotted. "Sensors aren't picking anything up sir. Either they aren't investigating or they're too stupid to notice their own shuttle being kamakazied."

Over the hill was... Sadly, a sea of wavey grass green until there was a horizon. Nothing but hills of various kinds, with very small bits of flat land in between. The target area, shown on the HUD, wasn't able to be seen from other large hills, much like the one Ran was on.

Ian looked out over the marines, having not moved too far from the LZ. "Hey, you fuckheads turned on your Mass Meshers yet?"

Rose sighed with her mic off, then checked for anything she might need to know about from the readouts on the terrain. Just in case there would be a need for it. "Set back here." She reported to her squad leader, already getting itchy. She wasn't the kind for missions like the one they were given. They were a formula for trouble and it was making her smell blood. Fuck...

"I don't like both situations. The Reds are strapped for equipment, and they're not investigating a fucking shuttle?" Ran noted there to be no real threat over the hill, save for just a -few- slightly hard-to-get-to places. "Adrian, I want your squad to set up on this tall hill and cover us as we maneuver. Two to three man teams for my guys. Weynolt, you're up in front with me." He then took another glance, just in case some Reds had decided to wander into the area. "Everyone use terrain to your advantage. Let the hills block any view of you and-yeah-, turn your MMs on." Ran then soon followed suit, silently kicking himself in the ass for forgetting to do so. "Let's go. And for fucks sake, don't slip down the hill." Bringing his SBR to point over the apex of the hill, the Chief went over and "cross-hatched" down the hill, moving diagonally from side to side instead of just straight down.

"Either they aren't investigating immediately cuz they might have other things to worry about OR they got stationary defenses we aren't detecting yet." Kagura said casually to Ran and waited for them to go first, being in a FIRE meant you didn't rush out like an idiot.

"Support squad! Up the hill! Double time it." Adrian climbed up the hill reasonably quickly in his NDI armor, and peeked over the top, checking it for baddies with his Canister rifle at the ready.

"Yes Sir." Amelia quickly but quietly moved forward, having already turned her MM on. She kept her PAL close, as if expecting Reds to pop out of nowhere at any time. She knew she'd probably be the first to get shot, but that was part of her job. Her life for those of higher rank as always...

The air would suddenly be filled with the noise of evidence there was quite the battle around them -- Far away. The only reason the explosion was really noticeable, as it was about as loud as a footstep on a wood floor save with a different noise, of course, is because there was almost no environmental noise saves that of the marines' voices and, of course, the occasional squeak should they lose a bit of footing on the dew-laden grass. For those looking up and to the east -- With the objective to the north -- they could see a small explosion from a far off distance of that of a anti-air weapon of sorts. Possibly a cannon, maybe a missile.

"Sir.. um..." Amelia stopped. What the hell? She was pretty sure they hadn't been spotted yet, so what the hell were they shooting at? Did a Viper not listen or something? "That can't be good..."

Ran had soon broken into a full sprint towards a rather rocky hill, stopping himself against the hill with his left forearm. "So Weynolt, how long you been in the service for?" His interest in that question, however, was immediately lost as he heard the explosion. Turning away from the objective to the north, he could only make out the characteristic cloud of debris resulting from an explosion. "McCain, any word on what the fuck that was?"

Seeing the hill was clear, Adrian waved his squad forward and mounted the top, keeping low. "Hey Rui, McCain, looks like that assault's starting ahead of schedule."

Ian frowned at the flashes. "No idea, Chief." The Half-ID-SOL opened a line back to the Nerkat. "Hey, that goddamn invasion just start?"

"I think we're boned," Kagura said as she caught up to Ran and made sure to use a rock for cover.

The frequency to the ship would be blocked. Well, not really. It was more static-y then anything else. It probably could have been broken through easily, but not without any minor effort. However, the question was somewhat answered with a few more of the same noises off in the distance as tiny black dots fell ground-ward.

"Well at least that means they're busy." Rose noted, following up into position. Her hand twitched briefly as she ducked behind one of the hills. I guess we're hopping. she thought, getting ready for whatever would be coming their way.

"Well, shit, the fucking invasion's started." Ran cursed, noticing the tell-tale signs of a troop drop in the distance. "There's no use being too fucking stealthy, guys. The Reds already know we're here. I want my platoon to form back up and speed up. Adrian, let's get your guys down here as well. And watch your fucking flanks." Ran started doing scans of the area, fully expecting some random Red patrol to come out and meet them here.

Gran had followed Adrian's trudge up the hill. "Following." He said shortly. He kept his sensors on passive and activated his MM. He stayed to the side and behind of Adrian, mimicking his squad leader's low stance. "Damn Adrian, we gonna try to keep back? Or are we gonna see what that is?"

"Sir, They may know we're attacking, but I still don't think they're aware of our particular position. Maybe we can get the drop on a few of them?" Amelia offered. She resumed moving forward albeit a bit slower while she waited for the Chief's response.

Ian swore. "Fuckers. What does NAM have against working equipment? Hey, Vipers. The fuck's going on?"

Adrian looked back at Davis, and noted the absence of the other squad members. "Yeah, keeping back seems like the smart choice." He looked at the black dots and explosions in the distance. "Fuck. Let's get back down that hill."

"That's what I have in mind, Weynolt. We're still on recon. We're just a recon group in force." As the rest of the Marines started gathering around the Chief, he motioned to the grenades strapped by their pins to various places on his armor. "Get ready to use these fuckers. Move fast but don't activate your fucking monoeyes yet."

Rose turned back when Adrian came charging in her direction, "Got anything definite?" She asked, shifting down to a stop at what seemed like the best spot for cover. There was going to be a lot of hell coming, she felt it. She wanted it, even more.

"Yes Sir!" Amelia replied crisply. She picked up the pace a little, but not too fast as to cause her to be detected by sensors over her MM. Her HUD started beeping at her as it picked up the explosions, which she quickly silenced.

The gruff voiced pilot responded to Ian after a short pause, "What'd you expect? You aren't the only force on the planet. Just because you guys have a sensitive target doesn't mean everyone else is going in quiet, too." The man explained.

Interestingly, in front of the 'Recon' group, over another hill there was a very quiet robotic noise, like that of a cheap thing turning semi-constantly. Drill like, if you will, but quieter.

"No." Adrian opened a private channel to Rose. "And when I say 'on the hill,' I fucking mean it, marine." The medic got to the foot, and glared over at Kagura. "Balfour, get the fuck over here, will you? Davis, watch our left flank, Rose, look out on the right."

"I expected some fair fucking warning about when you were planning on telling us that you were dropping us into a shitstorm, asshat." Ian growled into the comm before killing the channel. "Listen up marines, there's a biiiiig fuckin' firefight going on, so listen to your non-coms, and watch out for our guys, too. Judging by how this shit-fest has been going so far, some friendly fire wouldn't surprise me."

"You're no fun, ya know that Decane?" She hissed back at him and made her way back to where Adrian was and shook her head. "I'd rather be killin' shit than sitting here on my ass."

"Shut the fuck up and move already!" Ran had lost his patience. Again breaking into a full sprint, the Chief started ignoring darting from the cover of each hill and instead just ran in the direction of the objective.

"What the Chief said, Balfour." Adrian activated his armor's hover function and darted off after Ran, waving for his squad to follow.

Gran nodded, raising his LBR. "Righto." He kept up with Adrian, keeping the monoeyes on his WATER2 on passive. He sighed slightly as he saw Ran burst off. "This is going to end badly, isn't it?" He hovered up and with Adrian, tucking his rifle down a little.

Guess he doesn't want me as his meatshield anymore... Amelia thought darkly. She hurried after him, although she kept checking her sensors, not wanting any unpleasant surprises as she tried to catch up to him.

Dream shifted her position to correspond, bringing up her weapons. "Just in time." She smiled, not that anyone could see. It was a bit of a sick looking one anyway, so for the better. "Ready." The Medic used the channel made for their new squad. "At least wait until there's a crossfire." She joked privately to Kagura, at least a half truth in there.

As Ran moved over the hill, he would be greeted by the unpleasant non-green surprise waiting right behind the hill, not visible from the top of the tall hill. It was a camera. A cheap one at that, that panned back and forth like a fan. And Ran and company ran right in front of it. Oh dear.

Kagura groaned as they ran ahead but brightened up, at least something was going on now! She smirked when Rose came over the private communication line. "Yeah I'll keep that in mind, shooting them in the ass Would be funny, blame it on a red too," she quipped and remained hanging back for a moment before advancing behind the main group.

Adrian laughed into his comm. "Doesn't everything we do end badly, Keats?"

Rose hurried after, glad at least the Chief was on things. Or at least the one she could see. She was happy to hear Kagura's message, and the image of it happening was so sweet, too...

Ran's attention was brought to a tiny camera panning back and forth. And that piece of shit camera, that fucking tiny piece of equipment was to be the start of many problems. "Fuck, fuck fuck!" Ran immediately got low, fell on his right side and dug his knees and elbows as far as he could into the hill in order to stop just slightly above where the camera's line of sight could be.

"Rui, status report." Ian jetted to the middle of the formation, keeping pace with most of the marines, and keeping his eyes on the surrounding hills until he spotted a... camera? "Oh shit. That looks like surveillance. Marines, watch out, we may have company very soon." Ian changed to the command line. "Think we might want to get from between these hills?"

Amelia saw Ran stop abruptly and she hit her boost briefly to keep herself from slipping down the hill. She was about to ask what was wrong when she saw the camera. "Oh shit..." She bit her lip. 'I wonder why it's facing that way...' She thought. "Sir, You alright?" She looked back up the hill realizing that another marine would probably come barreling over the hill as well.

The menacing thing continued its rotary noise, moving its 'face' away from Ran now and away from the majority of the marines once again. Ran had come quite close but... It didn't seem like it had caught him.

Adrian hit the brakes when he saw the other marines stopping, and held out an arm to keep Gran from barreling past. "Fuck, what is it?"

Kagura looked around and perked a brow as she stopped. "Hell if I know, probably some turret or guncam or somethin'"

"...It didn't fucking catch me?" Ran was still on the hill, curled up so that he could be even smaller of a target for the goddamn camera. "It's a fucking camera, guys. Come down the hill and form a line behind me. I'll send one person past the camera as it pans to one side."

Rose halted, bringing herself against the earth at one knee. It wasn't too hard to stop as she followed the crest after Adrian, waiting for the go word. "Nice. That was a far trip, remind me of training." She sent to Kagura, keeping her eyes and sensors sharp for possible incoming. The sooner she knew the sooner the hell would erupt and her hand would stop twitching. When their chief ordered them down, she followed the fastest moving person in front of her, then stopped as the line began to form.

"Ran, just blast the damn thing or come up behind it and force the lens into the ground," Kagura suggested to him.

Gran grunted slightly as he turned and tilted his armor to stop himself. He bumped into Adrian's arm slightly. He crouched down, pulling his rifle up. "Cameras? Any enemy units?"

"Nothing I can see other than the camera." Adrian stood on the hillside, looking down at Ran and the rest of the line.

"Already behind you sir." Amelia responded. "Ready when you are." She actually had stopped almost on top of him, but had caught herself in time. She watched the camera pan in it's limited range.

"I think we should sneak past. No use in giving the enemy any way to know we're here." Gran suggested.

"I'm not shooting the fucking camera! Whoever's on the other side of it is gonna know something's up!" Ran looked behind Amelia, seeing her nearly on top of him. "I could get used to this sight, Weynolt. The PA's a bit un-sexy, though. Wait for my command..." Ran waited a few seconds for the camera to look straight forward, and as soon as it angled off to the other side, he slapped Amelia on the back. "GO!"

Amelia frowned at him, but decided to let it drop. At his word she sprinted as fast as she could, even hitting the boost on her first step making her sort of fly across. She activated the hovering before she landed and quickly moved out of the camera's range.

"Rui, why don't you just drop a rock in front of it?" Ian was at the end of line now, on the hill top, and looking down. "Or why don't we just fly around it?"

"Fly over it!" Kagura said. "I don't think it can pan vertically, if you pass directly over it, it won't see you."

"Shit, good point, McCain." Ran immediately stood up, waited for the camera to pan to the side and quickly boosted past it, nearly knocking over Weynolt as he landed.

It wasn't exactly hard to achieve this move past the camera thing, and it didn't appear to have any audio or anything to actually hear them, either. Although on top of another semi-big hill not to far away, but still off a bit, Amelia could spot another camera, save this one looked less cheap and moved quicker.

"Can't we just bypass all this crap anyway, fly low?" Rose asked, going after Ran, coming down back and to his side. Still hovering as she had been since getting out of the crash.

Adrian and Ian both soon arrived on the ground.

Amelia saw him coming though and caught him before he crashed into her. She quickly directed him to a spot near her and returned her hands to her weapon. She said nothing. As she looked up the next hill she saw a second, less crappy camera. "Um, Sir... Problem." She gestured towards the camera.

"For fuck's sake... this shouldn't be that hard. We can just fly around the hill, marines." Ian sighed into the comm channel.

"Can you see which way the camera's pointing, Weynolt?" Ran had only gone past the one camera and was already sick of this shit. "Agreed. We're moving around the fucking hill. I hate these Red motherfuckers." Cleaning some mud and grass off the end of his SBR, the Chief simply waited there for the rest of the platoon.

She moved to the side a little. "It was sort of this way sir. Not sure if it saw us.. We're going to get spotted one way or another so I agree with Decane, lets just fly over these..." She didn't like the idea of the other greens fighting while they fucked around with the cameras.

The camera faced away from them, although it didn't take to long for it to come back again. To add additional problems to their movements, what seemed to be... A floating baseball lazily floated over the camera in question, paused, and then lazily floated back in the direction it came from; toward the target zone. It was a drone, and had no visible weapons. Probably a scout drone, then.

"Not that I'm not inna' hurry to die but let's not stay clumped if we're taking the air huh?" Rose added, jerking her rifle towards the area they were headed to. A lot of different ways to die, surface to air was messy, but they might be opening themselves for it if they took to the air. "The longer we hang around the less surprise we have - they'll come look'n when they're done, right?" She just used common sense, not to mention she was not the patient type.

Kagura raised her arm and tried to get a firing line on the drone. "Imma knock that thing out..." she said and waited for her control system to get a lock on so she wouldn't miss it and waste ammo.

Ran stood perfectly still as the goddamn scout drone floated towards them, getting ready to shoot it if it suddenly jerked in their direction. But seeing it move away, the chief calmly lowered his weapon and turned towards the platoon. "We're flying around this fucking hill. Let's go, make sure you keep a look out for more dro-Kagura put the fucking weapon away."

"No way Ran I'm tired of pissing around, I'm gonna blast that drone out of the air, chances are they already know we're here by now, they're too busy elsewhere to do anything about it and if that thing gets back we might be in trouble." she pointed out. "BUT FINE. Be a spoilsport." she said and put it away.

END

Harrison had just caught up with the formation; missing the recieved orders by several kilometers. He saw the scout drone and, on first instinct, dove to the ground. The heavy FIRE banged face-first into the dirt and grass and kept its profile low.

"What the hell is going on!?"

Autumn kept her own radio silent as she pulled up the rear of Adrian's support squad. She disliked copious amounts of radio chatter and the risk of feedback through her voice box but she followed the Sergeant's orders diligently, keeping her WATER's LBR at ready as she followed behind them, with her Mass Mesher activated. She scanned her HUD of the area behind them, trying to keep as low to the hill as she could without impairing her power armor's ability to function.

She sent a short text message through the squad channels,
P3C Wilde said:
Might be best to keep the radio chatter to a minimum. Wouldn't do to get too distracted by personal conv. when we're trying not to get noticed.

Fay stayed a short distance ahead of Autumn, being part of Adrian's support squad. His own WATER was becoming a bit uncomfortable, but his training kept him in line. The medic had remained fairly silent throughout all of the radio chatter. In fact, he had tried to filter out every else by mentally only listening to Adrian, Kagura, and Autumn's words. It was difficult to squelch out everyone else's comments, but it worked for the most part.

ON

After a good period of time measurable in minutes, around four or so of having the marines move around the hill, and then proceeding to dash down to the ground when the drone came back again on its patrol. If it was a sensor drone, it wasn't to good at it. In any case, they were on the other side of the hill, their objective still not in physical view due to one last large hill a bit away, with nothing on it. They were half way there.

"I'm only 28 and I'm getting too old for this shit..." Ran sighed, taking a seat at the base of the hill, surveying the area in front of him. Running through the open terrain, and over the hill, didn't work last time. It just lead to a giant clusterfuck involving those stupid cameras. "We do this slow and steady, just like before. Three man squads moving from cover to cover. Weynolt and Zhen are with me." And at that, the Chief moved off.

"Yes sir." Amelia hovered over to the chief and slowed down to match his pace as she neared him. She watched the drone that hovered a ways away from them. It seemed to be about the same quality of equipment as the first camera. She held her autocannon at the ready as she trailed behind Ran.

"Alright, once the assault group is up and over, move after them." Adrian spoke over the comm. "Gran, you, Newman and Rose are with me."

"Copy." Dream replied quickly, bringing herself a bit closer. Even though she was a medic, she wasn't always used to not being in the first wave. It was probably because her last COs didn't mind if she took a hit or three and wasn't their problem anymore. It left her a little on edge, waiting for Adrian's green light.

There didn't seem to be any visible camera, or any rotary noises of the cameras turning back and forth. At least in the vicinity. Although sensor dots showed up in random places periodically now, just to disappear once again. A symptom of sensor jamming. The drone didn't come around again this time, it having a pattern of coming back about every forty one seconds. Curious.

"Roger." Gran replied. Honestly, he was looking forward to not being on the front tip of an assault. He definitely felt much more at home, and particularly 'safe,' being in the support squad.

At the first sign of sensor dots showing up on his HUD, Ran immediately held up a closed fist and lowered it, crouching to the ground as he did so. "I want our flanks protected. Weynolt, keep an eye on to the east, and Zhen, keep an eye out to the west. Support squad, come and join us, but move slowly. We'll hold our position for a few minutes and then move out again."

"Copy that." Gyles answered over laser, as he began trying to pinpoint the jamming signal. If someone was trying to use active cancellation on their sensors pings, they would most certainly be making themselves a larger target to radar sweeps, the same way as Noisemaker suites do. But he decided against going active, as he'd be risking blowing their cover. The Tech Sentry simply aimed his LPA forward at an upwards angle and brought up the rear of the squad.

"Sir." was her simple acknowledgment. She lowered the sensitivity of her sensors to minimize the intereference, but extended the range now that she had stopped moving. "Jammers.... Poor ones at that, but still. We must be close." Even though they weren't that good, it still interefered with the targeting indicator, which now no longer could give her the distance.

"You heard him, Marines. Let's go." Adrian headed around the hill, moving to a position about 20 feet behind Ran and the assault squad, aiming his rifle to the West.

Dream fell to Adrian's right side, back and slightly spread, covering the east while they followed the point team through. "Move'n." She clicked, free from her distractions and tics when battle was so close. At least, most of them all of her personality was working overtime.

The hill behind them exploded. Well, there was a slight interlude before it exploded, as there was a short whistling noise before it indeed explode. One could actually see the artillery shell, as it wasn't traveling to fast. Well, still fast, but whatever. Dirt flew everywhere, although no one was hit by it. The blast knocked over some of them, of course~.

The shell exploded closest to Amelia, causing her to fall from her hovering state. She bumped against Ran as she fell, but managed to catch herself. "Ow... the hell...?" She pushed herself back up and turned the hover on. "Sorry Chief..." Her head turned to the sky. "Guess they know we're here now." She turned towards Ran. "Orders?"

"Everyone alright?!" Ran lowered his SBR from above his head, as a result to the familiar whistling sound of artillery hitting. Looking behind him to make sure that noone was hit, the Chief opened a comm with the entire platoon. "That was a fucking spotting shot from enemy artillery. Everybody needs to get to the base of the other hill and use the hill as cover! Serpentine and get as close to the ground as you can when the next shells start coming!"

"FUCK!" Adrian yelled as the hill exploded. "Support squad! Spread out, and stay low! Damn it, what the hell was that?!"

Gyles bailed off the the left and crouched down, remaining in loose formation with the rest of the support squad. "Artilery shell, conventional. Not too much bite, but it means we've been spotted!"
Lilly: Rose shifted away, she had clipped her foot into the deck, but recovered and shifted out farther from Adrian. No problem getting away from him, the perfect orders. "Finally..well now we don't have to sneak anymore."

Gran crouched down and covered his head with an armored hand as the dirt and debris rained down on him. "Damn!" Gran looked around and raised his HPAR. "Where the hell did that come from?" Gran hadn't see it coming down and he didn't want to see another. Gran moved a little away from Adrian and planted a knee in the dirt.

"They probably missed because they're jamming their own sensors too. So getting too cocky would be a mistake." Gyles continue, glancing back at the site of the explosion. He'd given his two cents, but it was still Adrian's call. "So what do we do now, Sarge?"

The drone moved extremely rapidly behind them, moving at around a hundred miles over them before banking in a circle around them and then speeding off, this exchange taking about two seconds. Two booms occurred, and then whistled as two more explosions of dirt flung around the marines.

"...What the fuck is that little piece of shit doing...?" Ran only watched the drone circle around them in muted amusement, before dropping down again as two more explosions shot up amongst them. "Fucking shit, is that drone spotting for the artillery?! Staff Sergeant! Get your fastest guys to kill that fucking drone! Everyone else get to the base of the opposite hill if you don't want to get your shit fucked!"

"Damn it!" Amelia cursed as another shell exploded near her. She quickly shook it off though and hit the boost. She went around the base of the hill in front of them, knowing better than to move near the peak. She paused once she arrived there, turning on her targeting as she scanned around her for the drone, or others if there were more than one.

Adrian pointed his canister rifle skyward and let off a burst aimed at the drone. "Sir, we launch someone, anti-air will pick them off." He switched to the squad channel. "Support squad! Get to that fucking hill! Go now!"

"Dammit!" Gran shouted again as he was covered again with dirt and grass. It may seem strange, but one of his first thoughts included Damn, I'm going to have to clean these all off. He high-tailed it to the base of the hill, staying crouched as he ran.

"What the fuck do you mean, launch someone?! You ever heard of running before?! Get to it, or we're gonna get pinned down by this fucking artillery here!" Ran stayed where he was, making sure that his Marines got to the hill, first. "I'm gonna need our medics taking as much cover as possible!"

Gyles' crouched VOID armor forged ahead along with Gran, shield forward and autocannon at the ready. So far so good, but the fuckup with sensors prevented him from knowing if the drone had been taken out.

"You told me to send someone after the fucking drone, Rui!" Adrian yelled over the comm before pointing to Dream. "Do not fucking get shot."

"And how is someone on the fucking ground gonna get hit by AA fire?! Fucking damnit!" Ran looked to the hill and opened another channel with Weynolt. "Weynolt! You and I are going after that fucking drone." He then opened another channel to address the platoon. "Staff Sergeant DeCaine, you're in charge of my Marines until we get back!" He then made the "hurry the fuck up!" motion with his hand towards where Weynolt might be.

"You got't, sarge." Dream called back, doing her best not to look like a target. Not that it really was any different from keeping herself out of an obvious line of fire, but the closest she could stay and still be in a rough formation with the rest of her squad.

Another series of booms, not seeming that far away at all. Two hit the large hill, causing the top of it to colapse downwards, although nothing hit the marines. However... One shell of the three didn't hit. The reason why became obvious after a few seconds as a shell fell from upwards.

Autumn's eyes widened from behind her WATER's face mask as she was blinded by the light of the explosion around her. As the shrapnel and fire tore into her power armor she let out a soft gasp before her armor fell backwards to the ground with her WATER in pieces and the helmet of her WATER rolling a few feet away from the patch of bloodied, scorched earth.

"Yes Sir!" Amelia hovered towards Ran, scanning for the drone again. Something blipped on her radar as her sensors adjusted to her movement. She turned towards it just in time to see the drone zip out of sight around the hill. "Sir! There!" She pulled up her LPA and waited for it to return in order to get another lock on them.

Adrian gritted his teeth when Ran put the command of the marines on his shoulders. Then he watched one of his own get obliterated by an artillery shell. "Fuck DAMNIT! GET THAT FUCKING HELMET! SOMEONE FIND THE FUCK WHERE THAT IS COMING FROM AND SHOOT IT!"
Davis Bailey: "Shit shit shit!

"Don't fucking wait! Let's go after it!" Ran gave Weynolt an impatient punch on the right shoulder and ran towards the right side of the hill, signalling for Weynolt to move to the left side, in case the drone had a change of heart.

The drone returned and Amelias HUD informed her of a lock on her suit. She fired, but her shot was off thanks to the chief punching her. Her second shot found it's mark though, the plasma shot hitting the drone dead on.

"Shit shit shit!" Gran practically chanted at the shells continued to rain down on them. He tried to stay away from the general area of where they were exploding, but one of the other marines weren't so lucky. Gran immediately responded to Adrian's order. He dashed out, staying low, hoping no more shells were coming. He scooped up the helmet covered head in a large armored hand and cradled it to his head as he raced back. "Shitshitshit."

There was a pause in between volleys, enough for a small black ball to go flying over head. They had more then one, as, well, why have only one spotter? It didn't linger, instead going zooming off in the direction they came from and behind another large hill. And the shells still didn't rain down again. Behind the now much smaller hill they were hiding, there was the sound of some sort of craft, such as a shuttle for example, a bit off. In the more or less minute they had been spotted in, apparently some reinforcements had already arrived.

Dream grunted at Gran, but if he wanted to juggle Wilde's head that badly she assumed it would be all right. "...well, this is going to get fun." Rose set her weapon into a sweep while waiting to get more orders. It was just a matter of time before extra hell lumped on top of the sunday picnic they'd been having.

"Um.. Sir..." Amelia ignored the chief's punch and pointed at the shuttle arriving. "Looks like we get to be in a bloodbath after all." Something changed about her tone and demeanor. She warmed up her LPA in preperation for whatever came next. "Give the order." She said quietly.

"Marines! Spread out! Get away from here! Those fucking drones are calling in this position!" Adrian yelled before jetting about 50 feet to his right. "Come on! Go go go!"

Off

Boom! Boom! takatakatakataka

From his hilltop position, Harrison (who had been left out of most of the move order due to comms problems) was now shelling the position down below. Firing was a costly business, and sacrificing his semi-hidden position was nigh signing his own death warrant, but they were his comrades, weren't they?

"Guys, fall back to the base of the hill, I've got you covered." Harrison said calmly over the mic, taking out a drone in a PAL blast.

The explosion behind him caused Fay to fall face forwards. Searing pain encroached itself into the medic's back after he had recovered from a moment of dizziness and confusion. A piece of shrapnel had lodged itself into his power armor. It felt like it had pierced through his armor and flesh to become wedged in-between two ribs. The piece itself was about a foot long with about half an inch actually inside of his body. The rest was sticking out gruesomely like a bloody spike.

With a groan of agony, Fay tried to get up, but he fell down with a cough. It's difficult to breath, he thought to himself as his mind cleared and the pain became evident, What hit me? Crawling around so that he was looking the other way, he noticed a disembodied limb... it was too bloody and charred to tell what kind of limb, however. After a few moments, the Geshrin/Nepleslian had turned a hundred eighty degrees to view Autumn's corpse... or what's left of it. A chill ran up the medic's spine as he realized that no one could've survived that kind of blast. "Autumn..." he barely was able to speak her name.

Finding the will and strength to stand, Fay grunted from the pain in his back as he stood. Seeing that his fellow marines were leaving him behind, he pursued... either if it was to leave Autumn's headless corpse pile behind or because he didn't want to be alone with the haunting image in his mind, the medic was uncertain. A while later, he caught up with everyone at the hill where everyone was holding position. He still felt the pain in his back, but he didn't know that he had the spike of shrapnel still sticking out. "Sorry, I'm late, sir..." he said quietly over the comms to Adrian.

Harrison watched the group advance to the base of the hill, diligently covering the advance of his fellow troopers; one carrying Autumn's head.

Damn. If only I'd gotten those orders sooner... Harrison thought as he brought up the PAL and blasted another drone to oblivion; totalling two drones in his assault. He opened up the comlink to the squad and hollered his warning.

"Fireteam, this is Harrison. I was left behind on the other hill. Can you give me some cover while I advance to your position? Over."

"Roger that, Harrison." Ran cursed, pissed off that he didn't notice that Harrison was left behind. "There are no shots fired as of yet, Marine. Run your ass over here to Weynolt and I and then we'll get the fuck back to the platoon." Ran opened a comm channel with the rest of the platoon. "Adrian, one of your guys has a VOID. I want him to, if he has any, start marking targets that I call out, which Harrison will destroy. All Marines check weapons and ammo and assume a battle line parallel to the enemy approach. I want the auxilliary squads to protect our flanks."

Ran got up and looked in Harrison's direction, motioning for him to "hurry the fuck up." Afterward, the Chief kneeled down and opened a communication line with McCain. "McCain, I've got enemy reinforcements heading to our position. Those Viper pilots feel like getting off their high chairs and help us?"

Adrian took a look at Fay. And the huge piece of shrapnel shoved into his back. "Fuck... Saelus! Are you fucking alright? Get your morphine running so I can pull that piece of shit out." Adrian looked to the sky for several seconds before looking to Ran as he spoke.

"You got it, Ran. Newman! You're playing spotter now. Go! Gran, you get ready to help me with Saelus' armor once I pull that fucking spike out. Balfour, Dream, keep your guns on our flanks."

Fay looked at Adrian with confusion. What does he mean... he asked himself as he tried to look behind him to see what his superior was talking to. Out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed a shard of metal jutting out the back of his armor. His suit had automatically released some morphine into his system shortly after he received the wound.

"I... It's... What?" The medic was quite confused at this point. "I was injured when... when Autumn... I felt something hit me, but I didn't know what it was! What is it, sir? I can't see it... and my suit seems to have already given me some morphine for the pain.."

"Aye sir!" Harrison holstered his PAL and pushed himself to his feet. By the time Adrian and Gran were working on Fay's armor, Harrison was already sprinting. "Thanks for the cover!" Was all he said as he continued his wild sprint.

"Fuck!" Rose swore, training her weapon on their flank, almost wishing someone would pop their head out for her to take off. Things were only going a little worse than she was used to, but Rose knew that since stealth had been eliminated as a factor in the mission everyone would be in much better shape over all. "Copy."

A little pissed she wasn't able to help Sealus, Rose forced the anger at the circles their op had been going in away to focus on the moment she hoped when everything would break was coming. It always happened when you were fucking around, or not thinking about the fight. It was the first thing her squad leader taught her the last time she was on the swampy ball of hell.
