RP: Bounty Hunts [Bounty 3.1] Eviction Notice

Reservoir - Machine Room

While Katya tended to Duncan's wounds, the rest of the mercenaries cleaned the building in an orderly fashion. Surprisingly, there were no more traps inside. It was clear that the person who set them up expected any invaders to be dead or to be extra careful once it was triggered. As the medic pulled the shrapnel out, she noticed that the damage was only superficial, and there was little chance of lasting damage, save the scars.

"Boss, it's a proximity sensor," the mercenary said, tossing the small, blocky device towards Jaina. The small, black plastic device had a lens on one of the side, and it looked far too well-kept to have been there; How the inhabitants of the complex also got their hands on such thing was a complicated story, but not entirely impossible. What made it hard to believe was the state the device as in, it wouldn't have power to operate through all this time was also a mystery, unless it was placed there recently, nor should it be in such a near-pristine condition.

Outside, the noises started to get louder.

Reservoir - Machine Room

"Fuck me," Jaina simply stated as another mercenary tossed her a pristine looking device. She looked it over. "Either someone's maintains this or it is new. We might have another side on our hands so be careful." She put the device in her pocket and looked over her team. Looked like they were still in pretty good shape, but they needed to move.

"All right, let's go do what we are here to do. We got X-ray's incoming so need to go fast. Look out for more proximity sensors. Someone might be holed up in here and use those traps to keep the locals out." Jaina explained. "But we are uninvited guests as well. Anyway I don't give a fuck, he or she attack us, put the wanker out of service."

Duncan winced after each piece of shrapnel was removed. Once all the offending pieces were out he rolled his wrists and forearms. He still had full range of motion. He took a moment to watch as the other mercenaries cleared the room. The dust kicked up was stifling and played with the lighting. Duncan coughed a little to clear his throat.

"Alright, thanks Katya. I should be good," Duncan said to Katya in gratitude. "Boss, I'm ready to go. The pumps should be around here somewhere. I'm no good with that kind of stuff. That over there looks like a loading dock. Probably as rusted as the door but we could still use it if needed. I could probably press it," Duncan said in a tough cocky manner. The large man stood up tall and adjusted his knuckledusters followed by his TV remote then his Shot 12 to ensure they were loaded and ready.

To be ready until Jaina gave the command he moved to the open door and peered outside trying to catch a glimpse of the on coming crazies.

Reservoid - Machine Room - Inside

As the noises outside grew louder, even through the thick concrete walls of the machine room, the mercenaries startes to set up on any positions that they could defend the room better. Three of them positioned themselves next to the large cargo door, not opening it but standing by in case there was trouble, while another went to join Duncan by the smaller, person-sized entrance. That was when the mercenary leader's comm bead started to crackle and fizzle until Jacob's voice could barely be understood through the other side.

"̶Jaiņa͢, we͘ g͡ơt̢ the ṕow̨e̸r ҉workin͝g.̧.͟.̶ Sh͏o͞u̴ld ͠be ab̵l͜e to͘..͟. ̵M̕a̕s̀t̸er̶ Còntrol ̸P͠ane̛l͟,҉ b̵link̡i̛ng n̴o̷w.́.͠. ͝O̧w͝ ̸c͜o̶py҉?"҉ Came the garbled transmission. The other group was probably just under a mile away but it might as well have been ten times that considering the quality of the audio. The possibility of them being jammed became even more present. It took a while for one of the mercs in the group to make sense of the transmission, but when it did she called out for Jaina.

"Boss, found it!" One of the female mercs yelled from a corner of the machine room. And, much true to jacob's word there was the MCP, with a single blinking red

The radio came to life again as Jacob spoke again. "Tur̶n̷ ̡al͘l͞ dials ̵up̢."

Reservoir - Machine Room - Outisde

Peering outside, Duncan got his first glimpse of the approaching mob, and it wasn't good.

Two large and very distinct groups were approaching from between the massive water tanks roughly to their north, too many to count and this time most of them were armed with their rag-tag collection of improvised weapons and tools. The only saving grace was that the only cover was behind those massive tanks, and the mercenaries could use the windows.

"Contact east! They're climbing through the rubble!" One of the mercs called out from near the cargo door, then started firing.

" You're welcome. "

Katya answered the Duncan as she put her medic kit on her pocket.

" Wha.... "

As soon as she heard a merc, she quickly reached for her shotgun then quickly ran behind the rubbles.

Duncan was startled at the size of the mass coming in from the north. He licked his instantly dry lips and soon gave up counting the oncoming horde. "Jaina...We got a lot, and I do mean a LOT coming in from the north. We have a good field of fire but I'm not sure it will help all that much. Have we seen what's down in the middle of the room? Maybe another way out?" Duncan asked as he prepped his shotgun to start shooting when the incoming crazies got into range.

His nerves rankled further at the call out and gunshots from the east. He found it hard to imagine that there could be more than what he was saw in the north. The team was effectively surrounded. "Hey," Duncan shouted, "how many of them are over there? Could we push out if we had to?"

Machine room

"Roger, we are on it," Jaina called back on comms and moved to the MCP. She waved the female merc off and studied the machine. "Hurm, all the dials up eh? Should not be too hard."

By that time Duncan's report came in and Jaina had to take her attention elsewhere. "Well just fucking start shooting, I need to get this shit working!"

With that she turned back to MCP and started working on turning the pumping station back on. It was time to flood the tunnels.

" Wha... "

As soon as she came behind the Duncan, she saw those crazies again.
She stared nervously as they approached then quickly grabbed her shotgun as she heard Duncan's shooting.

" So? What are we going to do?! "

She yelled at Duncan as she checked her shotgun's empty chamber, then quickly pulled out her revolver.

Machine room

As Jaina started to override the pumps, setting everything to the max, the room around her started to get drowned in noise. It soon became hard to hear anything that wasn't coming directly from the headsets worn by the mercenaries. The machines groaned and protested as rusted parts started moving again after so long, after a few seconds the groaning was replaced with a slight screeching sound, and after some more time something burst inside where all the machine weres, and steam started to vent out through the burst pipe. That didn't seem to deter the process, though, as the dials on the MCP showed that the water levels on three of the reservoirs were going down; more than what they needed.

The sound from the firefight outside was barely drowned by the loud machinery.

Outside

One of the mercenaries besides Duncan rushed out of the door, rolling the last few steps to the first piece of cover he could find, following by a second one while the rest stood inside the building, firing from the windows at the scattered mob. Several guns and industrial tools also opened up in reply, keeping the two mercenaries in the front preocuppied in drawing out the fire, while the other two inside picked off the targets.

The volume of it was only more apparent to be too much when the doorway next to Duncan was peppered with the sporadic fire from weapons of several different calibers and making. The fact that the mercenaries' plan was working seemed to spur the mob on, as they started to advance the seventy yards or so of open terrain to the pumping station in the hopes of shutting down what was going on. Some of them were even more reckless that they set off some of the traps laid there; from were they were, the mercenaries could see that one such trap was triggered, propelling a metallic can upwards into the air at chest-height and detonating it, turning the closest knot of the rag-clad denizens into pink mist.

Machine Room

Duncan ducked back behind the doorframe every so often to avoid the gunfire. He watched as the sea of people ventured into the open killzone to get to the machinery. Duncan was still unsettled as the random pops of traps being sprung and the brutal deaths barely registered with the mass.

He used care to place his buckshot into the thickest clumps of incoming crazies. He was concerned that he would run out of ammo soon. Luckily he still had his remote and his skill in close combat, but it wasn't much against such a number.

Machine Room

As soon as Katya pulled her revolver out she checked the cylinder first to make sure it was loaded then peaked at Duncan to make sure he wasn't dead.
She then quickly aimed it at them as they were coming, then starts pulling trigger.

She never thought that she was a great shot, but she was sure that she was pretty good shot with her revolver.

Machine Room

Jaina looked around and poked the female mercenary she talked with earlier. "Cover our back, I would hate to get flanked through the building!" she shouted over the loud machines which drowned out other sounds in the room. Excepft for gunfire.

Jaina moved to the windows where Duncan and other were. "Duncan!" She shouted and tossed him a hand grenade. "You know what to do!" Jaina then assumed position at the window and started firing at the figures who ran at them.

Machine room

Duncan caught the grenade and looked it over briefly. He always found it to be a good idea to look over a grenade before just pulling and throwing. That way you are assured to pull the right pin and no disasters occur. Satisfied with the grenade make up, he glanced out the doorway at the mass.

He waited and watched for a particularly packed clump of crazies, pulled the pin and launched the grenade out using his strength to achieve a good distance. "Grenade out!," Duncan yelled to inform his allies. While he watched the arc of the grenade he made sure to stay in cover.

Machine room

More of the attackers continued to die as they traversed the open terrain, most of them cut down by the projectiles from the mercenaries, while others were hit by the bright plasma bolts fired from Katya's SiZi revolver. A few times a bolt completely went through one of their enemies, then hit the other person right behind them, and also setting them on fire.

The grenade sailed out of the room and over the two mercenaries taking cover right outside, then a little further until it landed somewhere in the middle the mob. There was a pause in time before the crack of the detonation could be heard among the noise, followed by a column of dirt being thrown upwards as the small device detonated; since the mob was so dense, the mercenaries couldn't even see the amount of damage it had done to it, but it was safe to assume it had not been negligible.

When the dust cleared and the small debris stopped raining due to the explosion, the mercenaries inside the building could see that the mob was right on top of them, only a couple dozen feet away. The smarter ones stopped to fire their weapons, while the more bloodthirsty ones continued to charge on with their improvised weapons.

Machine room

"You two inside, back in now!" Jaina shouted and changed mode of fire on her rifle to full auto. "Covering fire! Duncan you got the doorway!" The mercenary leader started firing the short bursts at the locals trying to mow down as many of them so the two mercs outside the machine room could retreat inside. Duncan was a big guy so he had the best chances to keep the bastards out. Still Jaina was fairly sure she would have to use her bayonet again and very soon.

Machine room

"You're damn right I do boss! Let's go guys, get those candy asses in gear," Duncan yelled to the mercenaries outside! He could feel the anticipation building. He knew the time was coming that he could do what he really did best, fight. Some fought to get paid, some because their lives were on the line. Some even claimed it was because they liked it. Duncan, he just fought because it's what he has always known.

Duncan placed his shotgun blasts to the sides of the retreating men so as to not incorporate them into the flying buckshot. As he finished off his loaded shells and the men were past him Duncan tossed the shotgun behind him. Drawing his TV remote from his back he prepared to give the crazies directly in front of the doorway one last welcoming blast.

Machine Room

As soon as she heard the Duncan then Jaina, Katya pulled the trigger few times as she got up then turned around to run.
She then noticed that she forgot her shotgun and reached back to grab her shotgun as she holstered her revolver.

" . . . Okay . . "

She tried her best to run back to get inside, and as soon as she reached the inside, she unholstered her revolver then checked her cylinder.

" . . . Agh . . . "

As she noticed her cylinder was empty, she groaned then slowly started reloading.

Machine room

The tempo of the fight started to pick up as the two opposing parties got closer to one another. That close, the mercenaries inside could see the wide-eyed, frenzied looks and expressions from the people who were trying to kill them, as well as the shouting and curses aimed at Jaina's group. The two mercenaries that were outside kept their heads low and dashed through the open doorway, giving Duncan the opportunity to see that one of them had what looked like the back end of several nails protuding from the backplate of his vest, which had stopped the improvised projectile.

To Jaina's side, one of her mercenaries slipped back and fell when something heavy pounded against the windowframe he was firing from with a deafening bang, showering him in dust and debris. "Boss, these people are crazy!" He yelled, dusting off the chunks of concrete that had gotten stuck on his face by the impact. Thankfully, it seemed that the two mercenaries on the door-sized entrance and their shotguns were keeping anyone from getting inside, but it was clear that their enemy was going to try out something since that wasn't working.

On the other side of the expansive machine room, the other mercenaries seemed to be doing their best to keep the enemy from entering through the large cargo door, and it was clear to see they were busy by the amount of spend casings and empty magazines surrounding them. Below and between the two, the cargo door had just become thin strips of metal hanging off its frame by the several shots that had gone through it; if someone wanted to, they could just barrel through the thing and get inside, but it seemed none of the people on that side had gotten that crazy yet.

Machine room

"Yeah I bloody noticed," Jaina shouted back at the mercenary and fired at the man who threw the makeshift grenade at them. This was starting to get a bit out of hand and Jaina did not want this to become her personal Rok'veru. She emptied her mag into the crowd and took cover. While she changed magazines, she went up on comms.

"Iron Ferret, Iron Ferret. This is Jaina." She called up the bounty hunters. "We are engaged with a large number of tango's and they are not letting down. We could use a fire support from your ship or maybe an evac from the roof of Machine room. Respond!"

Machine room

Duncan continued firing from the doorway, ready in mind and body for the inevitable bloody close quarters fight brewing. He just saw so many left alive regardless of the constant death the mercenary band dealt out. He battled inside himself with despair and excitement. This could be his end or just his beginning, but damned if he was going to quit.

"Boss, if the ship doesn't return contact I saw we think about pushing out that cargo door as a last resort. It's going down regardless it looks like," Duncan yelled over without drawing his attention away from the doorway.
