===== 5. Inside the Trilo =====

=== Armory ===
There are 8 armories on the ship, located every other deck, fore and aft.
These armories are fully stocked with the latest Nepleslian weapons as of YE 32. Each armory requires a ranking Sergeant or higher to access it.

=== Bridge ===
The Trilo's bridge layout consists of the captain situated at the center of the bridge with the helmsmen and tactical officer to the fore of him, and the science and engineering stations at the aft. The ships interface systems are comprised of touch-screen interfaces and tactile response key interfaces. The front of the bridges hull is comprised of a large viewscreen capable of projecting three dimensional images several feet in front of it .
=== Captain's Suite ===
These rooms are slightly larger, with the captains being the largest, and are fully furnished with the latest in plastic furniture.

=== Cargo Storage Areas ===
The Ship has one large cargo receiving bay located on the top of the ship with the space-door facing to the aft. The ships two main cargo holds are located inside the main forward hull, directly behind the armored fore hull..

=== Crew Quarters ===
Each crewman has their own quarters for the long missions away from port. These are normally sparse, consisting of typical bed and shiny new plastic executive desk with a computer console on top, except for commanding officers whose quarters also have an array of shelving which often displays awards, commendations, and ship models.
Commanding officers also have their own washroom while there is one restroom for every 10 crew members.

*Amenities: The crew restrooms are large and designed for use by many crewmembers at once with sperated stalls and zero-G compatible urinals & toilets in case of gravity loss. There is also a mirror and sink with which to clean up, and a standard issue magazine holder filled with military and adult magazines.

=== Crew Recreation ===
The recreation deck (10) is primarily located in the middle of the ship, and only occupies half a deck. It serves relaxation and sporting functions for off duty crewmembers. This deck features a full gym, swimming pool, spa, and various sport courts.
The ship has 1 mess hall located in the forward hull capable of holding 400 people.

=== Engineering ===
Comprised of 10 decks at the aft of the ship, the Trilo class has one of the most efficient and powerful reactor systems to date. A minimal engineering crew of 12 can operate the ship under normal conditions. All 10 decks can be reached via ladder in the event of mass power loss.

=== Maintenance Conduits ===
The ship has an adequate number of maintenance corridors, which can be sealed either manually from inside the shafts or from various control stations on the ship. These corridors are made of some of the most resilient alloys that make up the ship, and are not very comfortable to climb thru due to their hard inner surface and use of ladders for vertical ascension at evenly spaced junctions.

=== Medical Center and Laboratory ===
The ship has 1 large medbay, fully equipped for a ship of its size and crew compliment. Due to the ship's combat status they are normally crewed by field surgeons.

=== Passageways ===
Corridors are well lit, and the overall lighting changes to red when the ship is in combat. The floors are composed of a light colored composite while the floor is composed of plates made up of open hexagonal forms to improve traction
=== Power Armor Bays ===
None
=== Shuttle Bays ===
The ship's exterior is equipped with one large shuttlebay located Fore/dorsal which is a force field-contained opening in the hull. The bay makes it possible for shuttles to fly out into space at their convenience. This bay is normally sealed via a large sliding segmented door.
=== Wardroom ===
Located on deck 3, the wardroom is where the captain and commanding officers eat. There is a large wooden table that fills the center of the long, rectangular room, with comfortable chairs around it.

===== 6. Ship Systems =====

==== Armored Hull and Hull Integrated Systems ====
*Hull: Composed of thick panels of Neutronium-coated steel around a carbon nanotube frame and Mercurite anti-radiation shielding, the Trilo's hull provides fairly good protection.

*Primary Power: Primary FTL and weapons power is supplied through an aether tap system, which harnesses the fabric of space surrounding the ship and converts it into clean usable energy.
*Secondary Power: AM-M Reactor CRT VI
The ship uses a high output fusion reactor assembly to efficiently generate power whilst consuming miniscule amounts of its hydrogen fuel. Fuel is stored towards the aft of the ship and at a safe distance, thou the reactor and can be ejected from the ship in an emergency.
*Airlock System: The primary airlocks are located at the fore of the vessel, both dorsal and ventral. An airlock is a device which permits the passage of objects, people, and the like, between a pressure vessel and its surrounding space while minimizing the change of pressure—and loss of air—in the vessel. The lock consists of two airtight doors in series which do not open simultaneously.

*Docking system: The Trilo uses the new Nepleslian UNIV-A Docking clamp systems, located midway on the spine of the vessel, which enables any smaller vessel, so equipped to be docked to and also carried along by the larger ship. The UNIV-A is capable of quickly docking and releasing any compatible ship attached to it via 4 magnetic clamps.

==== Computers and Electronics ====
*Main Computer: Carthage Project programmed a Tactical Avatar AI into the ships main modular quantum computer. Through Holographic projectors located all over the ship, computer interfaces and screens can be materialized anywhere, although solid consoles are still there for backup. The ship can also be equipped with another computer module via an empty module slot to further enhance its combat capabilities.

*Normal Spatial Communication: Laser and radio bands provide normal space communications.

*Hyperspace Communications: The hyperspace communications relay allows near real-time communication between starships and other vessels or planetary bases.

*Unidirectional Gravitational Plating: plating on the roof emits a psuedo-gravitational field that is attracted to the plates on the floor pushing everything on the ship 'down'. This creates the false sense of gravity that permeates the ship

*Subspace Mass Sensors: Subspace mass sensors instantly detect mass readings and movement of objects up to 1 AU (93 million miles) distantance from the ship. The readings are used both for early warning and navigation when traveling at sublight speeds. The readings are not very detailed and cannot detect objects of less than 60,000 kg.

*Tachyon Scanners: Tachyon Scanners detect the disturbances in the graviton characteristics of normal space caused by the passage of ships traveling through hyperspace. Tachyon scanners also reduce the effectiveness of enemy missile jamming systems.

*Overlord Class Type C-M Sensor Package: This sensor package is derived from the proposed Overlord class, yet eliminates many of the ECM components. Capable of scanning and processing readings from hyperspace, subspace, normal space and quantum fluctuations close to the ship as well as natural astral and stellar phenomenon. The Type CM package is meant for a combat heavy environment due to its focus on detecting drifting minefields and targeting multiple individual mines.

==== Emergency Systems ====
*Escape pods: Located primarily on the forward hull with enough to accommodate a crew of 420. An MEC-D is located at the Medbay for the injured or otherwise incapable of surviving in the pods. The pods have food and oxygen for 90 days and are on a 5 sharing basis. MEC – B also provided inside should the 90 days run out.

==== Life Support Systems ====
Enviro and Atmospheric generators/recyclers are located at various key points inside the ship. The ship is designed to be self-sufficient for 5 years, at which time it should dock to acquire fresh air and supplies. Air scrubbers and filters should normally be changed every month.

==== Propulsion ====
*Continuum Distortion Drive: (CDD) propels the ship at speeds many times the speed of light by generating continuum distortions and nesting them to create asymmetric peristaltic fields. This effect can also be tuned down to allow high maneuverability at sublight speeds in combination with small thrusters placed around the ship.

*Sublight Drive: The ship is equipped with Four gravimetric drives that manipulate superstrings and the zero-point field to maneuver and accelerate to a far higher degree than other ships. By manipulating and "bending" superstrings, this drive system is able to create distortions in space/time that can be used to push and pull a ship in any given direction. An important byproduct of this means of propulsion is that the effect of inertia is also negated, allowing ships to accelerate, stop and maneuver at velocities that would crush a person using conventional ion propulsion.
The Trilos can also eject it's two forward drive nacelles in case of severe damage to the units or for simple refitting in spacedock.

==== Shield Systems ====
*Primary Shields: Collapsed Dimensional Shielding, a relatively new technology based on older super-string theories, wraps a single dimension around the ship, making it very difficult to damage with energy based weapons and some kinetic weapons.
The CDS system essential creates an effect similar to a space-time bubble around the ship, necessitating either the calibration of the shields or actual holes in the shield to fire the ships weapons or launch/retrieve fighters/mecha/shuttles. This thin one dimensional layer on its own is nearly invincible to most energy weaponry and highly resistant to kinetic weaponry. Its strength however, is reliant on the ships power, and no ship to date has been able to use it past 50% of its total calculated strength.
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_Theory#Extra_dimensions )

*Secondary Shields: The Type IV Electrostatic Shield is the standard for Carthage non-combat vessels and provides the primary defense against all forms of attack. It is a potent force field that is created by generating powerful electrostatic fields that can absorb, disperse, and re-radiate energy from enemy weapons in order to sap their destructive power. This shield is functional at all times, though in non-combat situations it is in a low-power setting that allows it to repel micro-meteors, mines, and other debris away from the hull. At full-strength, the shield can turn away the equivalent of a ten teraton detonation before failing.

==== Weapons Systems ====

=== Main Weapons ===
*Mine Launcher: Carrying various kinds of mines, the dominant type uses simple magnetic attraction to attack ships no broadcasting a friendly beacon. The average yield on one of these mines is in the 5 gigaton range. Another anti-fleet model sports a 70-80 gigaton yield designed for detonation away from friendly fleets.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Mine Deployment
SECONDARY PURPOSE: N/A
RANGE: 5M
RATE OF FIRE: 2 mines a minute.

=== Secondary Weapons ===
*Phased Energy Arrays type II (140): Acquired technologies from the NDI, these weapons are standard of most Carthage Project ships. A Phased Energy Array is essentially a series of powerful beam cannons that utilizes a flux capacitor that not only can change the frequency of the energy blast, but can also phase the energy so it can exist in multiple dimensions simultaneously -- which makes it capable of totally bypassing enemy shielding systems and applying their damage immediately to the enemy hull. The low-end estimate of the Phased Energy Array's destructive power has been measured as the equivalent of a 400 megaton fusion weapon. High-end estimates have been placed in the 600 megaton range.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-Mine
SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Warship
RANGE: 1 AU+
RATE OF FIRE: 20 shots/second.

=== Anti-Fighter Weapons ===
*Phoenix Arms Trc-1000 Pulse Cannons (24): For last-ditch point defense, the cruiser mounts fast tracking pulse cannon turrets that fire phased energy blasts at an extremely high rate of fire that are effective against all manners of mecha, missile, and other assorted targets. These weapons, however, are not effective against larger targets as they simply lack the sufficient power to deal damage. Low-end estimates for the TRC-1000 pulse cannon's destructive power has been calculated in the 700 gigawatt range. High-end estimates have been placed in the 105-130 terrawatt range.
Primary Purpose: Anti-Fighter
Secondary Purpose: Anti-Warship
Range: 450,000 Miles.
Rate Of Fire: 4 Pulses Per Second.

===== 7. Vehicle Complement =====
==== Shuttles ====
Ge-T1 Shuttles (4): Your basic high-capacity, FTL-capable Tran atmospheric shuttle. Includes adjustable-seal hatch on the floor and ceiling of the cargo compartment for docking with ships from outside.
Primary Purpose: Interstellar Transport
Secondary Purpose: Planetary Landings
Range: 10 days of travel (about 137 light-years at maximum speed)
Speed: 2000c, Mach 1 in atmosphere.
Load Capacity: 52 personnel with gear or 2 personnel with cargo.
Weapons: None
Systems: Anti-Gravity, Armor, CDD, Communications, Chaff/Flare Dispensers, Emergency Homing Beacon, Shields, Sensors.
==== Fighters ====
N/A

(OOC:)) Fourth Draft. I named it Trilo because I thought it resembled a trilobite. I'm open to name suggestions!!! I would also appreciated a lower yield suggestion for the phased energy array system. Mine's aren't armored or shielded like warships after all.
Also, revisions and changes are in Red.

He JUST posted the Carthage Project for approval ... yet we approved two of his ships already.

Why did we do that?

The Carthage project is an overall Ideology, dedicated to Nepleslia and it's people's survival at all cost save attacking fellow Nepleslians. This also encompasses the development of technology, construction of ships, mecha, formation of Organizations dedicated to fulfilling this mission, etc.
Maybe that's a better explanation?

...isn't that what the Greens are? The Reds? All the other factions? NAM? Zen Arms? A lot of niches in the RP aren't taken, but that one's stuffed to the brim.

It would be a lot simpler if you said, 'it's a project to design warships to protect Nepleslia'. That seems pretty on the level.

But Carthage would prefer NOT to attack other Nepleslian's, whereas the greens and reds..well..everyone's kind of fighting. And yes, it is a project to protect Nepleslia, and Nepleslian's everywhere, with not just starships but a whole assortment of technology!

Please try and stay on topic. This could be better discribed but I see no massive flaws in the tech. RazealK will only be getting better with his tech submissions and I suggest this be approved.

Wait. The art that you use to show the mine. Did you draw it? If not, remove it from the site and refer to it as an example via link; we can't have anything associated with other copyrighted materials.

Ok, now about the Collapsed Dimensional Shielding. I was originally inspired after reading the 2001 series of books, based on the monoliths description by one of the characters as being "Smooth, and almost separate from our universe in the Monolith's surface appearance."
Many different flavors of string theory also support there being more then 4 dimensions, up to 26, of which we can not see, even thou they do exist, as pocket dimensions or in some other form. This I came up to what seemed to me, near invincible shielding. It's also possible that the shield could be self sustaining, because it could use an already existing dimension.
:D

The way I understand it from what he explained to me in chat was that it would be like creating a bubble of space, making it infinitely thin, then wrapping it around the ship much like other 'wrapinig a self contained universe around the ship' shields work.

Aether technology simply mimics normal leakage between dimensions and changes the flow. But what Razeal is suggesting sounds like directly creating a portal straight through subspace and amplifying its effects, without using a contained environment like Aether uses. Thats waaaay beyond Aether technology. Hyperadvanced stuff.

(Technobabble justification follows. Prepare for boredom)

In comparison to our four prime dimensions (width, length, depth, and time), these dimensions are theorized to be very tiny in comparison to the grand-scale nature of the 4d universe we perceive. Not to mention they're supposedly separated by the D-brane. This means you would need to rip through normal space AND through subspace AND sustain the entire thing around your ship to use it as shielding. That alone would require prohibitively mindboggling sums of power. Many times more than hyperspace travel.

If its true about these dimensions being very tiny in influence in comparison to the main 4D ones, then you would likely need to somehow amplify their effects many times over in order to strengthen it to the point it can block all weapons fire. That would add a huge power requirement on top of an already prohibitively large one.

How would opening and sustaining mono-dimensional 'holes' in subspace cost more energy than opening, sustaining, and traveling through a full tunnel bridging light-years in subspace?

Uso Tasuki said:

In order to travel through subspace, you need to only rip through normal space. To open portals to other dimensions you need to rip a hole through normal space, as well as subspace (and/or the dimensional membrane). The complexity and power needed to do such things is much harder than subspace travel, and is much more difficult. Comparing subspace travel and controlled dimensional rifting is like comparing NASA chemical rockets and Hyperspace fold drives.

Thats why the SAoY is the only organization that I know of currently with dimensional-tapping abilities (Aether) and even they only have it to a limited degree, and in a contained environment (reactors). Even Aether Shock Arrays are little more than cudgels, bashing holes in spacetime to release intense energies. The CFS, the SAoY's best defensive technology uses fundamental forces instead of amplified dimensional rifts, because maintaining a large, controlled portal is a much more complex than thing than manipulating natural leakage or poking holes. Hence you'd need technology equal to and more advanced than the SAoY itself.

Think about it this way. The first guns and first bullet proof vests were centuries apart. Spitting an atom is an easy thing now, but we have yet to figure out how to contain and control in a relatively safe way (fusion). Knocking down a tower is easy, but building one takes a long time. Destruction and chaos is a far easier thing than construction and control, due to Entropy. Releasing pandimensional energy in the form of Aether Shock Arrays is much less complex than actually figuring out how to control and manipulate dimensional rifts in the form of Razeal's shielding. Thus my conclusion that you'd need technology greater than Yamatai to pull this thing off.

I'd recommend just using something more generic for shielding. Its not as if this thing is a front line battleship or anything anyways. >.>

You are thinking other dimensions as in an entirely new universe not other dimensions in the sense of up/down left/right forward/backward ect. Moving a small amount of space around a ship should cost only a small fraction of the energy required to tunnel through the entire universe. It would be more like building a wall and building a tunnel.

I received the impression Razeal seemed to be talking about utilizing the higher dimensions themselves as the shield system, based on what he said there. But most theory suggests that higher dimensions are effectively one of two things: "cut off" by D-branes or are very tiny to the point they are practically undetectable.

If the first was true, then it would be much harder to tunnel into than spacetime (4D space, commonly called hyperspace/subspace in sci-fi). The fact we're already living in 3+1 space (3D space with time) suggests that D-brane between flat space and spacetime must not be that difficult to cross, but the ones to the higher dimensions are. They assume this is why the higher dimensions seem to influence reality much less noticeably than the four we commonly know.

If the second theory were true, these higher dimensions would be so incredibly weak that they would be useless against blocking weapons fire. The only way to solve this problem would be to "layer" dimensional portals or access multiple ones simultaneously to "thicken" the shielding, so to speak. But based on its apparently weak influence on reality, you would need to multiply the effect a million or billionfold.

The ability for races of SARP to tear a hole in flat space and enter (or hyperspace or subspace or whatever you choose to call it) does not necessarily equate to pandimensional mastery. Dimensional manipulation is not any easy thing, certainly not as easy as "Moving a small amount of space around a ship." If it was really that easy, than any sort of Hyperspace drive should also double as a shield system (CFS, anyone?), and things like teleporters should be a breeze to build.

There is a reason only the SAoY has Aether and CFS technology, which is because its not easy, or everyone would have that level of technology. Unless Carthage has acquired Yamatai-equivalent military technology from somewhere I don't know about, they shouldn't have dimensional shielding or any sort of CFS-style systems.

In this case only your second theory is supported by mathematics. The first about dimensional membranes does not exactly 'jive'.

Because this uses string theory we are assuming the existence of other dimensions that at the time of the big bang were shrunk down to an almost non-existent size. The reason why we do not believe we observe these dimensions is because they are so small they are only responsible for minor changes in how strings vibrate. By expanding one you would naturally increase what it can affect. By making it the size of a destroyer it would grab into it anything small enough to fall inside which would make it a 5th dimension which is easily assessable from the first 4. How a weapon would interact with this would be something for a lot of math and quantum weirdness but I think I can safely assume that something would have a chance of passing through harmlessly, being deflected, or crushing itself against itself as if it were trying to enter and exit a wormhole at the same point. As far as power goes this would be taking something small, not punching a hole in anything, and expanding it to about the size of a destroyer.

FTL would require either the entire universe to be bent, distorted, and then connected to form a wormhole which requires a lot of power though not beyond what can be produced in this setting.

What Star army ships do usually is create their own universe and warp all of space around them which again requires a lot of power because you are creating your own set of 4 dimensions to exist in rather than only manipulating one.

Also, Yamatai isn't the only one who can bend space.

Yes, I know Yamatai isn't the only one who can bend space, which is everyone in SARP seems to have already mastered FTL travel and artificial gravity. But is that equated to pandimensional mastery, its only logical that everyone in SARP should also have CFS and Aether technology, and everyone would have teleporters about now. Your arguments are purely based on raw scientific theory, but do not take account into differentials in the SARP universe. For example, in the SARP universe hyperspatial manipulation for FTL travel seems to be everywhere, yet CFS, Aether, and other forms of dimensional manipulation are restricted to 'very advanced' races only. This suggests that SARP bends "real" scientific theory in favor of game balance.

For example, logically any race that could harness the colossal amounts of FTL technology wouldn't find it too difficult to use that sheer amount of energy for traditional weapons. Or even use their knowledge of (hyper)spatial manipulation to easily tear apart space time at a whim and make weapons of amazing power. Since they can't, that means either SARP FTL travel directly violates causality (FTL travel doesn't use the large sums of energy they would theoretically seem to require), or the SARP universe considers FTL travel and military application of dimensional equipment to be in a whole seperate level of technical difficulty than FTL travel.

What Razeal was suggesting was "near invincible shielding." I'm not certain if that is what you were arguing for or not. But having something that powerful for only a fraction of the energy cost would be cause a gross imbalance in power. It would indicate that Carthage base has technologically surpassed the entire Yamatai Empire.

They do use that knowledge to create weapons that tear space at a whim, and everybody has those weapons. The reason they aren't used is because they were so powerful everybody had to develop hard counters to those weapons.

So including that it is reasonable to assume that logic would apply when I say that FTL would require more energy than a shield because you are moving more space.

The shield he was suggesting is merely nearly invincible to energy weapons and resistant to kinetics. I get the impression that the shield would work the other way, being more resistant to kinetics and less resistant to energy but what is important is that the shiled would likely be DR-8-9ish which given nepleslia's level of technology is reasonable and would have to be paid for in resource cost anyways. As such the shield would fall within the bounds of powercosts, game balance, and logic. Yeah, it could use a bit of clarification but I don't think it worth non-approval over.
