RP: The Wayward Distant Memories (Ep. 2.0)

Anbruch

Embel sat at her station and sighed loudly "Can't I help with anything?" She kept to her station though and then looked around noticing everyone left "what did i miss?" She got up and ran to find out where everyone else had gone.

Near the Anbruch - Kinda Right Underneath It

"No need to provoke the damn thing."

“I wasn’t planning to.” Reed replied defensively before adding with a more pleading tone “Just get her inside the airlock.”

Reed stopped closing the distance toward the bear. He was close enough to reliably hit the bear and he had managed to move far enough to the side such that Analise was not in his direct line of fire.

If this bear lashes out at Analise, I’ll put a few rounds into it to get its attention. Reed continued to watch, unwilling to break the silence when a thought struck him. At this moment, if this unknown ships crew decided to attack now, with 3 out of the 4 defenders out in the open, they would easily take I hope that other ship’s crew took their time unloading.

At that moment Reed heard Embel's voice over the communicator. "What did I miss?"

Reed tapped his communicator with one hand quickly before whispering quickly.

"Embel we need help." Reed voice came through the communicator as strained "Ana and Quinn are both near the bear. If you could bring that big rifle of yours and join me by the airlock, I'd appreciate it."

Spire

Nan faltered as the giant dragonlike behemoth appeared and roared defiantly. This is exactly the kind of local critter Nan had a feeling would show up. He ran and took cover behind the Spire keeping it between him and danger.

A random thought ran through his head concerning the whole spire mystery. "Rulloo, Rulloo, your touch activated the spire. Could that have been like an alarm? Could the original occupiers of this world have been animal in nature? So if anyone tampered with it they would know?"

"Tanja, I know we have a big thing on our plate right now but could we just have each of ua touch the pillar just to see if we can turn it off? Mostly I want to see what happens when Hugar touches it," Nan said as his words seemed to spill out of his mouth as fast as he thought them. He pressed his hand against the pillar just in case then went to his bag and released his four remaining suicide drones into the air circle him lazily. He hoped he wouldn't have to use them but better safe the sorry.

In fact, he did take control of one to maneuever it behind the misproportioned creature and detonate on the back of it's head. He hoped it would be thoroughly distracted by the grenade like explosion.

Hugar stared at the faux-dragon and sighed audibly before turning and following Tanja, using his gun to fire at the monumental monster to distract it from the spire. "Gods damnit... This is not our day, Tanja!"

~Anbruch~

Embel gulped as she heard what had happened "I am right on my way!" She ran to weapon storage and grabbed her lovely gun then strapped the gun to her back and carried on to the airlock.

When there she looked around and sighed "Reed I am at the airlock, preparing to exit shortly, am I safe to leave the ship?"

Outside

Quinn kept a good firm grip on the back of Ana's shirt, just in case, not daring to take his eyes off of the still-distracted bear. Of course when Reed decided they needed more guns only Ana would be able to catch Quinn's patience wearing thin, the man giving a slight growl without realizing it. "Embel." He said as softly as possible. "Yes. You can come out, but please, for the love of everything you hold dear, don't get ahead of yourself." Quinn studied the branch of the tree the bear was already munching on with one eye and cast about with the other, finding a similar looking one and carefully snapping it off. "Here" He slowly moved the branch around and held it out for Ana. "See if it wants another snack?" He suggested.

Outside the Anbruch

Ana could hear the others, somewhat, as they talked about getting weapons to go against this single bear. She could feel Quinn's hand on her shirt, but didn't dare move away from him. When he held out the branch, she took it and nodded, holding it ready for whenever the bear wasn't as distracted.

She did shake the branch a bit, trying to get the bear's attention.

Right Beneath The Anbruch

“Quinn.” Reed spoke harshly over the communicator, irritation overriding his caution “Give me the benefit of the doubt and assume that I am not going to to ‘poke the bear.’”

“In case anyone forgot, an unidentified ship landed 3 kilometers away from us.” Reed kept his position a few meters from the airlock, except now he was searching the forest around the ship. “We were supposed to be preparing the ship to repel anyone who might try to destroy it."

Reed paused and took a breath, trying to reign in his frustration, before asking in a more gentle tone "Analiese, please finish whatever you are doing out here. I don't know how much time we have before we get into a firefight with the crew from that unknown ship."

At first the bear like creature did not pay Analiese any mind, after all it was busy eating was was presumably food to the beast, it was hard to tell with all this purple colored vegetation what was and wasn’t healthy. However the bear did not stay oblivious to the situation, as Analiese approached the creature became more and more aware of her presence and more and more alert.

The Arrival of Quinn within it’s personal space along with Ana was just too much for the creature and it roared, getting off it’s rear and starting to make it’s way over to them. It was no Olympic runner, but the creature was surprisingly nimble and posed a very real threat of closing in on them, and with its large claws and fangs it could rip them to shreds easily. There was no much time to contemplate what to do, everyone had to make many decisions in just a few short moments.

Spire

The behemoth quickly responded to Tanja’s ballistic bee stings and began to head in her and Hugar’s direction, very obviously not amused by the bullets striking against it’s skin. Though at it’s size it did not seem the bullets were having a significant effect. Soon the chase was followed by a small explosion at the back of the creature’s head that caused it to roar as it bucked. It had much more effect but it seemed to worsen it’s mood by an equal measure.

“What ever you are going to do, do it quickly!” Tanja shouted over the comms as she continued trying to stay in front of the creature, having to run into the forest to slow it down, as it was gaining on her.

“There isss merit to the notion…” spoke Rulloo in his usual lisp, but there was a measure of worry in his voice. “I did not detect any sort of mechanics in the spire.”

Right Beneath The Anbruch

Hearing the sudden roar, Reeds head snapped back in the direction of the bear. This was turning into a nightmare. He could see Quinn and Analiese almost within claw’s reach of that bear. Even with Quinn carrying her, Reed realized that they would make it there in time. As things were, Embel was still in the airlock, but Quinn and Ana were both between her and the bear. Reed on the other hand had positioned himself further down the ship in the direction of the shuttle bay.

Reed hesitated for a second, before pulling the trigger, firing 5 shots in quick succession, aiming for the bear, and shouting at the bear, doing everything he could think of to get its attention.

“Get Ana back to the airlock!” Reed shouted at Quinn as he kept firing the pistol at the bear.

Anbruch

Quinn had been prepared to call the Bear's charge as a bluff... until Reed started shooting. Ana would get the privilege of hearing Quinn loose his patience, the man spitting curses in two different languages, as he dragged her sideways and pivoted to put himself between the bear and Ana. Fortunately for them both he hadn't, ever, put his weapons in the armory for the full trip. This meant he only had to pull the High Hybrid Gun from his pocket and fire four armor-piercing rounds almost point blank at the bear's skull. He had no accuracy at long range, but at short range it would be particularly difficult to miss or so he hoped.

Outside the Anbruch

Ana stood still, watching the bear. The only indication that she was even hearing either Reed or Quinn was the fact that her jaw was set. Otherwise, she was still trying to get the bear's attention. Then it growled and charged at her and Quinn, though even she could tell that the bear was more focused on Quinn than Ana herself. She dropped the branch, but otherwise was frozen to the spot, until she heard Reed and his gun was going off. She started to call out, "No-" But got no more than that out when Quinn grabbed her and made her crouch. She had her hands to her ears as more shots rang out, her heart racing fast. "Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!"

Spire

Nan looked between the spire, Rulloo and the behemoth and settled back on Rulloo. "Rull, let's go, we are done here. We have to high tail it out here. Seriously, if you don't have what you need by now you won't get it in a few more seconds," Nan said in an unusually nervous tone.

"Captain we should just skedaddle. I will drag Rulloo along. First though, Hugar, run over here and touch the spire. Satisfy my curiosity so it doesn't drive me crazy."

Hugar continued to follow Tanja, until they reach the tree line, there he split away from Tanja to get above the creature by using his agile moves to climb up a tree. Once he got up into the treebranches he began jumping from tree to tree using his tail, hands, and feet to move quickly while keeping balance. moving to keep above the large Behemoth. Meanwhile he uses his eyes to look for a weakspot on the back or head that he could possibly drop down on and impale with his spear to protect Tanja. "I'm above you Tanja." He reported to her.

As the bear approached Quinn and Ana one thing was for sure it was not doing so in a friendly manner. It was getting dangerously close until Reed’s rushed shooting placed a few hits along the creature’s body, causing it to slow some and roar angrily. It shifted to change directions towards Reed and darted his way, but before it could pass Quinn with it’s slowed pace, it received several more shots to the head that caused it to stop and fall to the side. Whether or not it was alive was unknown at the moment.

Spire

“Twenty secondssss” Rulloo hissed as he continued his work as quickly as he could.

The beast however was not going to sit around and watch them for this time, it continued its rampage, chasing after Tanja who had gotten it’s attention, very quickly closing in on her. Hugar’s athletics got him into a position just above the beast with relative ease.

He came down on the creature just as it had closed in on Tanja. The spear could only pierce his thick hide partially but it hit a sweet spot, causing him to snap his head up. At first it seemed like everything went well, only a fraction of a second later Tanja’s body could be seen hurtling through the air. The creature’s strange tusk like formation had hooked her and throw her several yards, slamming her into a tree.

Fortunately the pain at the back of the creature’s neck was enough to distract it as it thrashed and bucked, swinging Hugar around on it’s back.

Quinn finally let out the breath that he'd been holding and he lowered the gun when the bear slumped over. He slid one finger off the trigger and lowered the gun, his free hand reaching out to gently stroke Ana's hair, attempting to soothe her. "I'd rather not have you mauled by a bear. Sorry." He murmured apologetically, feeling terrible for putting the bear down in such a violent manner, but it had been them or it as far as he could tell. He glanced over his shoulder "Reed, Embel, Come get Ana and one of you needs to make sure she stays in the med bay until I can get in to sedate her. I do believe Rulloo would like to get a good look at our bear friend here." And he was so tempted to carve the thing up, get a good look for himself, and then eat it. It was just that sort of a day.

Anbruch

Ana shakily stood up when all was said and done, her eyes going to the bear. She sniffled a bit before looking at Quinn, her jaw clenched, "No sedation." She turned away from them all, running away from the safety of the Anbruch and the others, needing to just get away. Her direction was perpendicular to where the other crew from the other ship would eventually come from, though that was no guarantee that she wouldn't find trouble elsewhere.

It wasn't that she didn't want to be with the crew. They were starting to be like a family to her. She just needed some space and time to herself. To calm down on her own.

Spire

Nan anxiously tugged at Rulloo's outer garment to properly motivate the eccentric scientist. It seemed that Nan's boundless energy had started to coerce the alien to expediency when Tanja's body flew from the tree line to smack into the rudest, most ill placed of trees.

Nan yipped in surprised concern for his motherly Captain. Completely forgetting the slow researcher Nan propelled himself as fast as his Minkan body could go. He spoke rapidly into his communicator as he ran, not raising his voice in fear of drawing the beasts attention. "Captain? Captain are you ok," he asked?

As he approached her, he hoped that she would stir and rise on her own but he was fully prepared to help her in any way he could. Luckily his Yamatain body would allow him to help her walk or run, if not cary her altogether.

He spoke again into his communicator with a scared hard edge, "We are going, Hugar we have to get the Captain back to the shuttle. We did all we could here." He would do all he can to get Tanja moving towards the shuttle.

Beneath the Anbruch

Reed let out a pent up breath and allowed his pistol to rest by his side. “That’s it?” He asked no one in particular as he began walking up to Quinn and Analiese. Before he had taken five steps toward the two, Ana had taken off at a run. Silently cursing Quinn for provoking the bear, Reed began to run after Ana, calling to her as he did so. "Wait Analiese! We are not going to sedate you! Please just come back to the ship!"

Hugar, being ontop of the beasts head and being thrashed around like a rodeo cowboy, mearly a few yards from Nan, gives Nan a weird look. He works on staying on his back, and as he gets thrown around bides his time... then when he is thrown upwards and coming back downwards from the thrashing he uses his strength to shove the thing in further before twisting the pole activating its shocking addition to try to directly stun or kill the monster that had just thrown his Tanja. A low growl beneath his breath in the process.
