"Uhh, 'higher order predator'?", Sally asked cluelessly, tilting her head to one side. "What's that? What's a 'primary consumer'?" The little ambassador shuffled awkwardly from one foot to the other.
Her sister Yui, amused by Sally's flustered state, was chortling softly to herself; a quiet, snorting sound, comparable to that of a small dog sneezing repeatedly.

Elina's Station

Elina settled back in her little center aboard the Soyokaze and tapped into the Ship's Megami to give her orders and set up a feed to one of her laptops that just video and sound of the I'ee interacting with another of the Soyokaze crew in the hanger. She kept up the steady music flowing through out the ship to those that wanted to listen to her program as the various music was played. She even played new songs from the space station she had visited before being assigned to the YSS Soyokaze.

Shanota watched as the ship's scientist questioned the ambassadors, finally happy that they were distracted for the time being. Her co-pilot simply stared with some disappointment as a smile slowly cracked across the face of her flight lead. She turned back to the rest and silently waved them out of the hangar for now is it began locking down.

"What do you eat?" Chieko offered, realizing she just might have gone too far. She then noted one of the other pilots making her way over to chase the slightly overzealous scientist out.

"Oh!", Sally squeaked in response to the question, turning to Yui and squeaking to her in their native language. Her sister nodded and toddled off to their Hayabusa fighter, while Sally turned back to Chieko. "As infants, we eat raw flesh harvested from animals.", the I'ee explained, as her sister returned with one of the metal canisters they had brought in earlier. "Adults, like myself and Yui, do not eat solid food, as such."

Sally took the canister from Yui and held it up for Chieko to see: It was roughly a litre in volume, made from what looked like steel, with copper symbols adorning its circumference. A two centimetre wide strip of clear plastic ran down vertically on one side, showing the interior of the cylinder and marked with small measuring markers. Inside was a gluggy, white-yellow fluid.
"This is our ration drink for space travel.", Sally explained. "From what I recall, it is a nutrition and protein drink with lots of sugar in it."

Jei tapped and finger on the arm of chair, he never got over the sudden feeling of the jump. His anticipation began to come over him, making him ever so slightly jumpy. His other hand seemed to rub the end of the chair arm. He thought to himself to calm down, it had begun to work as his tapping slowed. His thought wandered his eyes back to the console, which was still all green and online. He leaned back in his chair once again and sighed, muttering to himself, "At least everything works."

Shanota floated over to the scientist and ambassadors as the rest of squad left the hanger. She put on the fake smile again as appeared behind the scientist. "Hey you guys, hangar is locking down and the ship is preparing for jump. I'd recommend heading on out and taking the interrog- I mean scientific survey elsewhere."

The captain looked over the data feeds checking to make sure everything was green before she gave the order. "Make the jump." Her black eyes flicked up from her screens to Jei then to the main screen. "Let's go find those wayward sheep." A small grin formed on her face as she watched for the stars to stretch out along the ship's flight path.

Jei gripped his chair and smiled. Jumps always were an experience. The grin was to hide the fact that he was hoping nothing would fall off, or that they would hit something along the way. As the ship gracefully jumped away, the world felt as if it had not a care for the world. He tried not to think about the speed, but he slumped back into his chair as he felt the ship move it's way from point to point.

Sally seemed a little disappointed to have the scientific interrogation broken up so soon, though Yui nodded her head to Shanota, beginning to tug Sally away towards the bay exit. "W-we can talk more later on, if you like, Miss!", Sally squeaked as she was pulled away. "Goodbye, Miss!" Soon, the two bugs had disappeared from whence they'd came, heading back to their quarters to wait out the jump.

The Jump went smoothly. The feeling of the jumped washed over Jei as quickly had happened. He sat back up in his chair and began to look over his displays for the readout of all weapons and hanger equipment. Everything was reading green, from the turrets to the hanger bays themselves. A quiet sigh of relief was released from the young Hei's mouth before he turned towards the Captain's chair.

"All weapon systems green, Chusa. Launching the patrol fighters."

He turned back to his displays, hitting the console's commands in an orderly fashion giving the ship's intercom the echo of the procedure. A message was sent to be heard on the Hanger decks for the Patrol fighters to go "Wheels Up" and begin the routine post-jump patrol. His displays showed fighters beginning their start up and prepping to leave for their patrol.

Shuttle Bay

It had barely been a few minutes out of the jump before Shanota was barking orders at her squadron while they scrambled to get aboard two of the Hayabusas. The Nitô Hei barely gave Downer time to take her co-pilot seat and strap in before the cockpit closed in around them. Furiously flipping the ignition switch and almost purring at the sound of the engine's warming up, she seemed to be having a bit too much fun with this. Her Hayabusa slowly began to make its way out of the hangar, her wingmates tailing after her as they departed from the ship.

"This is Nitô Hei Shanota Onoorai, beginning patrol." She reported to the Soyokaze, a hint of glee in her voice.

Shuttle Bay

A pair of huffing, puffing I'ee scrambled into the shuttle bay as the order to launch fighters was given. As Yui ran to their designated Hayabusa, Sally nervously hovered around behind the other pilots, watching what they were doing and occasionally trying to speak to them. "E-excuse me, Miss? Sir?", she'd squeak ineffectually, trying timidly to ask for assistance in starting and piloting their craft. Everyone was far too busy to walk a tiny, alien wasp through any sort of procedure however, and soon Sally toddled back to the Hayabusa with her head hung low.

"Well?", Yui asked, busy poring over the controls, to which Sally answered with a sad whine.
"I-I think they were too busy to hear me...", Sally squeaked. Yui let out a low hiss, watching the other fighters beginning to launch from the hangar.
"Sally, this is why we should just stick to talking and hugging. It's what you do best, after all.", she grumbled.

Shuttle Bay

As the two ambassadors/fighter pilots bickered and poked at things in the cockpit, the green light flashed for the launch crew. One of the buttons the little I'ee had pressed sent the go command and the crew for the fighter launcher catapult threw the lever and the fighter was hurled out of the shuttle bay out among the stars, joining with the rest of the fighter crew.

Bridge

The Captain leaned back into her chair and watched the larger projected screen before the bridge. "Start the long range sensor sweep please, and Jei please have the fighter make a run out around the far side of the star."

Bridge

Jei turned in his chair, "Aye Chusa." He turned back to his front. His fingers moved across his console as he spoke for the message to be relayed. "Attention, fighter patrol. New order, head to the other side of the star and report findings." As soon as the message went, he silently made his final check of the weapons before going back to monitoring the fighter.

Space:

The two I'ee tumbled back in their cockpit with startled squeals as their craft was hurled out into open space, drifting listlessly through the blackness until Yui finally managed to clamber back to her position. "Sally! We have launched!", the I'ee spoke, both confused, alarmed, and a little relieved. Laying her claws upon the controls of the craft, she began to experiment carefully, turning the fighter around lazily like a drunken fish and propelling it around aimlessly with careful bursts from its engines. Sally, having found her way back to the co-pilot's seat just in time to hear the orders from Jei on the bridge trickling through. "O-oh! We have orders!", she squeaked, sounding intimidated by the responsibility. "Um... Yui, we have to go to the other side of... that star." She leant awkwardly over her sister and pointed to the glowing orb through the cockpit's screen, before being batted away by Yui. "I can see it.", the warrior grumbled, carefully angling the craft towards the vibrant star and firing the engines.

To an onlooker, the fighter looked like it was piloted drunkenly, with frequent course corrections and displaying a reluctance to move too fast; falling behind the other craft, which it had already lost a lot of ground on.

Space

"Aye Soyokaze, heading over there now." Shanota's voice rang with some confidence as her fighter began accelerating towards the other side of the star. It took her a few second to recognize the I'ee piloted fighter lagging behind with some erratic maneuvers. She rolled her eyes in annoyance as she radioed the other fighter. "Hot-cha, I'm going to make sure our 'honorary pilots' don't careen off into some asteroid or something. You stay on course on and report anything you find on the other side to the Soyokaze."

Shanota's fighter pulled away from formation and soared towards Sally and Yui's fighter. "Everything going to be alright with you guys?" she commed over to the two.

Bridge

Jei checked his readings, and turned halfway back to face the Chusa's chair. "Patrol is en route to their objective, reporting all systems nominal." He turned back and began to think over things as he watched the markers move across his console. He noticed one of the fighters acting abnormal, but then saw the Leader's fighter moving to assist. He kept a keen eye on their markers, and pushed his Comm to the Patrol leader,

"Everything all right Patrol One?"

Space:

Sally made a nervous squeak as Shanota's fighter flew to them, and was about to answer until Yui spoke first. "We have not piloted a craft this...", she paused, chattering to herself as she tried to find the right word. "...sensitive before. We are acclimatising to its speed." True to Yui's word, she was beginning to handle the craft better as time passed, but the I'ee seemed reluctant to fly too fast.

Space

Shanota's fights tore past Sally and Yui's before sharply doubling back and slowing down to keep pace to the two. "You know you can turn on the auto-pilot real quick and take a few minutes to read the instruction manual, maybe let it ease you two into some higher speeds." She radioed over the ambassadors.

She switched comms to bridge as tone become more professional. "Roger that Soyokaze, everything's running green here; just making sure the VIPs are comfortable in these birds is all, over."
