RP: YSS Miharu Mission 1 "REAR GUARD", Day 4

Mizuho followed after Kotori rather wordlessly to the other vessel, choosing simply to observe for now, as it represented a rather better way to learn the Miharu than making suggestions she was unsure were even possible. She could speak later.

For now she would watch.

(And Seki appologizes for her lapse in activity. She cannot guarantee she will post often, but she will post whenever she is online. This has been less than she would like, lately.)

The flotsam of bodies became thicker as they approached Westwood's position. Nyton pushed aside another dead soldier with no emotion. The memory recorder captured the moment and the face of the man he casually brushed aside. He would mourn for the dead later. For now his mission concerned the living.

"Roger, I'll be waiting in this position and be ready for your approach."

When Nyton received the response he waved to Miyoko. "Let's go! Double time!" he said and moved faster. They closed the distance in a few more minutes. Nyton's drone had already taken a position near Westwood to observe the area he was in. After Nyton arrived he passed Westwood and secured the area, ensuring there were no hostiles other then the neutralized splatter Westwood had dispatched earlier.

"Westwood-Hei, we're here to rescue you. Saito-Hei, ensure he's alright while I pull security. You've got two minutes." Nyton radio'd through a shared frequency so they could both hear him. His drones then took up scout positions in front and behind them to give him a better vantage.

Miyoko quickly crossed the space seperating her from the survivor, slowing to an inelegant halt a few feet from him. She released the medical kit to float by her side in the zero-g as she turned to face him. After setting her armor's radio to transmit to both Nyton and Asher, she asked, "Did you find any more survivors or have any wounds that need immediate treatment?" Recalling the stories of survivors used as egg incubators and the Mishhu hemosynthetic tentacles, she hesitated. Those things can probably produce local anaesthetic if they want to keep the victim unaware until it's too late... I'll have to look into that.- Reluctantly, she added, "Or were you unconscious or near any Mishhu before you suited up?"

Detaching her tactical drones and placing them as both forward and rear observation units, Masako slowly made her way through the corridors of the Shikaku. Going over Engineering and around towards torpedo storage, the young warrant officer glanced at each body they came across to make sure none of them were infected. After all, leaving an infected enemy to their rear was a good way to die.

Using her drone to glance back at Leutre, she smiled grimly behind her helmet. This was probably the first time he's had to deal with the horror the Mishu were capable of, something that was always a shock in its own right. "Veressis-Hei, stay calm," she warned calmly. "Getting wound up isn't the way to be," she explained as she began floating down towards storage.

"No, I didn't find anyone alive anywhere on the way here. As far as going unconcious I might have lost a few seconds after the ship went down but nothing serious." Westwood replied to the medical inquiry. The medical checks on Westwood reported no serious issues. Aside from a little bruising he seemed to be healthy.

"Alright then let's go. Nishimura isn't too much farther off. Saito you cover the rear, Westwood stay between us. Move out!" Nyton said as he got up from his defensive crouch. He sent out his drones to continue scouting ahead and behind him as they advanced towards Ryszard's position.

Ryszard continued to wait there as he kept his pistol at the ready. He was wary and feeling just a bit jumpy, infantry combat wasn't what he was keen on. He was bridge personnel, comms, tactical, piloting, those were what he was used to, they were what felt right to him.

Now he was waiting just outside a corridor hoping none of the debris inside came out for him.

"I'm not wound up!" He snapped. "I'm just... Very uncomfortable. All this killing and getting killed jazz just isn't my thing. Give me a toolkit and a AMES I'm invulnerable, but give me armor and arms and I'm a psychotic wreck..."

Leutre laughed nervously and glanced over his shoulder. "Maybe I should have brought some booby traps along. Not that I don't have confidence in you, Mas, but I'd feel a lot more comfortable with tripbombs guarding my rear. It's a bit ironic isn't it? Firearms turn me into a wreck, but explosives comfort me so." He laughed, this time more naturally, as he moved around a large piece of fallen bulkhead. "Yet another sign of my failing sanity. I guess it runs in the family."

"Veressis-Hei, please keep radio chatter to a minimum," Yukari chimed in seriously. She had been monitoring Kotori's progress deeper into the field. So far, no asteroids or errant rocks had decided to crash into the Hoshi, but that did not mean they would not decide to do so later. The few weapons the ship had were on standby.

Nyton Claymere said:
"Westwood-Hei, we're here to rescue you. Saito-Hei, ensure he's alright while I pull security. You've got two minutes."

Asher straightened himself and looked at the rescue group, he was in a mixed state of awe and happiness, which almost made him shake with excitement. Even though he was a Power Arms himself, he had done little in the way of Power Armors. He envied the Armors they wore, and hoped he'd find himself in one of them one day. Though morever, there was finally someone here to rescue Rys and himself.

He began to think of the situation before the ship itself had been knocked out. The Mishu ship had gotten the drop on them and fired off torpedos to destroy them. The first area to be hit was the belly, then the bridge, though that's all he could remember inbetween of the start and end of the attack. He was working around the shuttlebay at the start and grabbed an AMES suit as soon as he could when the attack began. That would have put him a good ways from the major strike points of the torpedoes. He continued attempting to recollect all that happened to give them good information, but he took too long.

Nyton Claymere said:
"Alright then let's go. Nishimura isn't too much farther off. Saito you cover the rear, Westwood stay between us. Move out!"

Asher shook his head and got his rifle in his arms instead of on his back. He took a look at how much ammo he had left, then carried readily as he fell into formation.

"Er..." Asher stuttered, finally getting a word out, "Th-Thanks, seriously, I was beginning to wonder if I was going to have to spend anymore time on this scrap-heap."

He shook his head again, and trying to find a better way to not sound like a panicked fool.

Nishimura had been moving closer before he had been ordered to hold his position. This had however cut down the distance between them and Nyton noted they were closing in on Nishimura's position.

"Nishimura-Hei, this is Nito-Juni Claymere. ETA five minutes from your position. Stand by and get ready for rescue." Nyton radio'd to him.

One of Nyton's advance drones had already reached Nishimura and kept observation on him from an unseen angle in order to not alert ally or possible unseen enemy.

Upon reaching the corridor where Nishimura was Nyton again gave the order to hurry. He had to compensate for Westwood in his AMES. Upon their arrival at Nishimura, Nyton immediately dashed past him and took a tactical position to defend him. His drones formed another security perimeter to observe. "Westwood-Hei, secure our rear. Saito-Hei attend to Nishimura-Hei, two minutes. We evac as soon as you're done." Nyton radio'd openly to Saito, Westwood, and Nishimura.

"Kurohoshi, this is Claymere. We've secured the survivors. We're evacuating them in two minutes. What is your status?" Nyton reported to Masako.

Another one. Miyoko glided up to Ryszard, medkit in hand, and repeated the same list of questions she'd put to Asher, "We're the welcome wagon. Have you found any more survivors, gotten wounded, or been unconscious?"

He shook his head, "No, no survivors other than Westwood-hei, I sent what corpses and loose debris down into the corridor up ahead. As for injury, just a bit of a bruise but my suit remained intact," he then paused and added; "Thank you for showing up, I'm still thanking whatever allowed me to survive."

"Of course. If you'll just follow Claymere-juni, we'll escort you back to the Hoshi." Miyoko took up position behind him, almost disappointed. No injured people and no threats- this was essentially a babysitting mission at this rate. Not that she'd really wanted to be attacked by a hovering tentacle-skull, but the adrenaline rush that she'd gotten from the anticipation had left her on edge.

Asher took to his orders and watched the rear where they had came from. He was glad to have found Rys, great to see a known face on this wreck for once.

"Hey Rys, good to see something other than dead bodies and strangers for once. I'm tellin' ya, ain't this just shooty?" Asher grinned behind his helmet, looking at Rys to speak, but then back down towards the rear when he finished. He kept his rifle to his hip, knowing that he wasn't out of this hulk of metal yet.

Rys shook his head, "Yea, getting rescued is a little shooty...Getting onto a ship and getting to safety would be shooty by far." he chuckled and looked at his rescuers. He was still on edge, at least they appeared human and were piloting recognizable Yamataian equipment.

Miharu...I still can't think of ever hearing that name before...and Hoshi? No...Neither of them are names of ships I know of...something still doesn't fit right. He thought, silently to himself while he waited upon the orders of the person in charge of the rescue operation.

"Kurohoshi, this is Claymere. We've secured the survivors. We're evacuating them in two minutes. What is your status?"

Pausing at the entrance to the torpedo storage bay, Masako ordered her drones to watch her flanks as she motioned for Leutre. "Veressis-Hei, open the door and begin checking the torpedoes. Make sure they're AS-7s and AS-5s as well as checking their stability before we begin to move them," she ordered as she kept her guard up.

"We're at the storage bay, Claymere-Juni, and about to open it. We haven't had any contact with mishu or infested corpses as of yet." she reported as she kept her LASR at the ready.

While power inside the Shikaku was down, the AIES in Leutre's Daisy easily made the count of the number of torpedoes available. The loadout itself was a mish-mash of old and less old warheads: in storage were 16 AS-3ta, 16 AS-4am and 32 AS-5a warheads; each of the destroyer's four torpedo tubes were loaded with torpedoes which had been likely ready to fire when the vessel's bridge and main computer had been busted open.

The AS-3 and AS-4 WickedArms torpedoes would likely have to be tinkered before they could be adapted to the Miharu's newer torpedo system. The AS-5 warheads, though, would do fine. Pulling the thirty-two torpedoes out of the storage area would be easy enough with the nearby hull breach - the torpedoes already loaded in the tubes were probably more trouble than they were worth, though.

Yukari received the weapon information from Leutre's AIES. She did a little math in her head and nodded. "The AS-5 series have priority, Veressis-Hei. Please focus on the anti-matter warheads for now; we can manufacture other aether torpedoes ourselves."

"We're at the storage bay, Claymere-Juni, and about to open it. We haven't had any contact with Mishhu or infested corpses as of yet."

"I copy that. No sign of hostiles here either." Nyton replied. He then motioned to the members of his group. "Alright let's go. Westwood and Nishimura, stay between us. I'll take point while Saito-Hei covers our rear." With that Nyton gave the signal and they began to move out for the nearest exit back to the ship.
