Sune climbed into the passenger seat, and had his Type 27 NSP out of its holster. Situations like the attack were notorious for bringing out the worst of people. Especially those who lived on the edge of the law.

Victory took up a position at the gun on the driver side, she wanted to be able to provide cover fire for Akemi, since if they came under fire, keeping the vehicle moving was paramount to their survival.

The first portion of the trip was relatively uneventful, it was when they had to negotiate a tight corner, that they found the road blocked by a damaged bus. And several armed gunman appeared in the windows of the bus.

"Duck down now. Ramming through," said Koga simply. She hunched as low as she could while still being able to visually aim the truck and sent it on a collision course for the front of the bus as she floored the accelerator.

As the Cargo Truck charged forward at Akemi's urging, the occupants of the bus opened fire, a deadly hail of bullets slammed into the front of the formidable truck shattering the windshield.

Victory opened fire on the bus with the 35 mm Machine Gun, the bullets tearing into the bus, and hitting a number of the attackers.

When the Cargo truck impacted the bus, it did so with a crunch and an impact that slammed the occupants of the truck forward. The momentum of the truck caused it to push the front of the bus sideways. The engine of the cargo truck groaned as the truck's transmission dropped to a lower gear for torque.

Akemi weathered the impact well having adequately braced herself. Though somewhat disoriented, she was quick to back the truck up and slip it through the space made by the displacement of the the bus. As she drove past it she continued to keep her head low and went at top speed. She paid close attention to the road to try to avoid as many obstacles as possible and gradually swerved the truck from side to side to make it more difficult to hit.

The Cargo truck shuddered as it bullied its way past the bus, the sound of metal scraping on metal painfully loud in the truck.

Victory continued her barrage of fire at the bus, as did Sune.

Once clear of the improvised barricade, their progress increased.

"How are you two doing?" asked Akemi as they went. "Are they pursuing? Should we call for assistance?" She didn't let her guard down. If their attackers would go so far to make one barricade they could have more planned for them.

"I'm okay, a little cut up but nothing that I can't heal in time." Victory replied. "No sign of pursuit." she added looking behind them.

"I'm a little bruised and a couple of scrapes, but nothing critical." Sune answered.

Ahead of the truck a the front of a building on the passenger side of the road, collapsed onto the road, creating a mass of debris and rubble, there was no explosion or other sign of ulterior motives.

"Take us over the thinnest part. I do not want to double back and find our way blocked." Sune said to Akemi.

"Yes sir." Akemi did as she was told, slowing down to avoid significantly unbalancing the truck and its cargo as she navigated her way through the debris. Once she was clear of them she'd speed up again.

The Cargo Truck was not running at optimum, in fact the engine was running a bit on the hot side. As the made their way down the road, they saw a group of people clearing rubble. There were EMT personnel present helping to direct the activities.

Koga further slowed the truck and eventually stopped it as they neared the scene the EMTs were on. As she did so she spoke. "I have something I'd like to ask, but I am afraid it will sound stupid sir. Would you like to stop and help those people? I ask because the engine is beginning to overheat and doing so would give it time to cool down. Also, we may no longer need to be in such a hurry since we made our appointment and seem to be in the clear. That is of course, for you to judge. Even though it is a civilian matter I was wondering if you might think we have time to spare to aid them since they appear to be in an emergency situation of their own. I apologize if I have just asked a foolish question and wasted precious time in doing so."

"There is nothing stupid about offering to assist the civilians. After all they are really why we are in the Star Army to protect them. I will take a look at the engine and see if I can effect some repairs to help it operate better." Sune answered. "Victory-Hei, go with Koga-hei keep your communicators handy.

Sune then climbed out of the cab and started opening the hood of the truck to survey the engine compartment.

Akemi got out of the truck and ran over to one of the EMTs. "Excuse me sir, I am Koga Akemi and she is Victory. We wish to help you. Please tell us how we may best assist you."

"Thank you. According to the residents, there are still three people trapped upstairs. However, there is debris blocking the stairways. If you two could get up to the third floor and see if you can find them. They aren't responding to any calls." the male EMT replied.

"All right." Akemi examined the building in order to find a window or balcony on the third floor that she could enter through as well as some potential hand and footholds. Then she walked up to it, jumped up and started to climb them, using her inertia control to enhance her movements. Once inside she started to carefully look around and listen for inhabitants. "Is anyone here?" she called out using both her regular voice and telepathy. She didn't expect a response, but she figured she might as well try anyway. If she received no response and saw no one, she would begin sifting through debris in search of people trapped beneath them assuming there were any to check under.

While the room was a shamble, there was no one within it. Stepping out of this room in the central corridor Akemi heard a variety of sounds. The creaking of the structure, the hissing of damaged water pipes. Faintly there was also the sound of crying.

Akemi turned to Victory. "I hear crying in that direction." She gestured with her head. "I think we should split up so we can cover more ground. I'll go this way if you don't mind. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you anything, but I still think I should say we should take care to watch out for falling debris. I also think we should hover to protect against the floor giving out on us, as unlikely as that may be." Having finished speaking, she headed in the direction of the crying, following her own advice and leaving her fellow soldier to decide where she would go.

"It makes sense for us to split up, we can cover more of the building faster. I'll head this way and see what I can find." Victory said moving in the opposite direction, her feet scant inches above the floor.

------------------------------

The crying sound was coming from behind a door, a quick check would reveal that the door was locked.

------------------------------

Sune meanwhile was surveying the damage to the truck. It was clear what the problem was with the engine temp. The cooling system was damaged, and leaking. He grabbed the toolbox out of the truck and started making what repairs he could.

"Please open the door if you are able to. I have come to help you get out of here. If you cannot, please move away from it so I may safely break it open." Akemi waited a bit. If the door remained locked she would try to open it with an inertia control enhanced kick.

"I can't reach the door... my foot is stuck. You need to help... my mommy is hurt... there is a big board on her... I can't wake her." came a high pitched female voice from the room.

"Please try to calm down miss. I will be with you in a moment," said Akemi, just before she executed her kick.
