T7 Shuttle

Sune patched into the Eucharis intercom, "Final Call for Volunteers to go to the surface of HX-24."

He thought about how best to proceed, and decided that Natsumi would take them down in the shuttle. It would be good experience for her.

Seeing Egil and Conrad enter the shuttle he paused. "Well your first Away Team should promise to be memorable. Especially if it turns out to be actually a civilian Mishhu settlement." he said.

"Yamashiro-Hei, up in the flight deck. I will join you shortly. Complete preflight and be ready to depart on my order."

T7 Shuttle

Conrad nodded as the Chusa told him about the possibility of a Mishhu civilian settlement. However, the intel seemed far from solid, so he'd accept none of it for now.

''Something rubs me the wrong way about those two words in one sentence. We'll see when we get down there, Chusa.''

The big guy walked to the back and took out a couple of AMES suits, leaving one for Egil. He had inherent doubts about the fabric, and if he was able to wear it. Way tighter then he'd ever preferred, but the AMES suit held.

T7 Shuttle

Sune watched as the Nepleslian put on the AMES and made a mental note to add to the list of requisitions a request for some larger spacesuits. If necessary perhaps non-AMES one to provide Conrad with a better fit.

"Santô Hei that is my opinion as well. But stranger things have happened. So we will go down to the surface, explore the settlement, do some scanning and see if the evidence supports the claims. One has to really wonder what kind of people would want to live in a Mishhu city." he said moving forward to stand near the entrance to the cockpit.

T7 Shuttle

Egil followed the example of the crew and put on an environmental suit. While he could manage floating though the ship's corridors, he wasn't too thrilled about the near zero-g present on the planet. He had little choice in the matter anyway. Egil sat back down in his seat with a sigh and turned his thoughts away from the upcoming air ballet as the Chusa and their pilot moved to the cockpit.

"So you're a cook right? Besides your obvious tech job that is. Think they have a good pie selection for the coffee break once we get back?" he spoke his roommate with a smirk. He knew Conrad didn't get the time to inspect the kitchen just yet, but he wanted to know if there was some kind of passion for food hidden behind what he had seen so far.

Shuttle

Bors gave a thankful nod to his roommate when she handed him the AMES suit, quickly putting it on and returning to his seat. He felt both uncomfortable and annoyed at this supposed peaceful mission, he trusted the squids about as far as he could throw them. Closing his eyes and crossing his arms he leaned back as much as he could in his chair and attempted to take a short nap before they hit the surface of HX-24.

"We could have at least brought shotguns," Bors muttered mostly to himself before making his attempt at a nap.

Cargo Bay

Mitsuko was in the middle of her 'spring cleaning' when she received the message from the Chusa. He seemed to have settled right back in, after his short vacation from the Eucharis. She quickly replied, before their shuttle exited the nearby Shuttle Bay, confirming she had received the message and would send in the request as soon as possible.

While the team headed for the alien planet, Murakami began mentally filling out all the proper forms for the supply request. She made sure to mention how their arrival at the unexplored HX-24 had prompted the Chusa to make the request. She continued to clean and reorganize without slowing down, the physical activity leaving her to focus on the mental work. After double and triple checking everything, she forwarded the official request to the Bridge, tagging the message for long range communications to relay to Second Squadron Starbase.

Cargo Bay

Mitsuko still had a few areas to cover in more detail, but she felt she was done with the majority of her work. She'd received another message from the away team while she was busy - this time from one of their new crew members - and had spent some time doing her best to research the weapon featured in the included picture. Although she might be quiet and dislike spending time on the front lines, Murakami was very knowledgeable about firearms. However, she had mostly studied standard Star Army equipment, while this was quite obviously some Nepleslian weapon, likely illegally modified.

To: Santô Hei Hightower
From: Ittô Hei Murakami, Logistics

Apologies, but I am unable to determine the exact make and model of the weapon pictured. Research has only lead me to a few prototypes that have not yet been cleared for official use by Star Army infantry. While similar weapons are popular with the Nepleslian military (see attached), I am unable to comment on whether such a weapon could be requisitioned and/or approved for use by the Star Army.

However, the Eucharis does currently have some heavy infantry weapons available. Please note that, while the Type 33 Automatic Grenade Launcher requires a tripod or vehicle mount to operate, these requiments were written with a standard Star Army Nekovalkyrja soldier in mind, and may not apply to soldiers whose size exceeds Nekovalkyrja maximums.

Satisfied with her response, she sent another message to the bridge. This one Mitsuko had marked for the captain's approval, before being scheduled for long range communications. She has requested a Type 31 Field Uniform - complete with all additions and accessories in supply - for every crew member. She noted that their current mission proved these would be useful in future similar situations.

She also included a list of items she'd found in the Cargo Bay, mostly from the random collection they'd recently picked up, that were only taking up space. Murakami recommended they either be handed out to crew members for personal use and storage or removed from the Eucharis during their next stop.

  • Silk pajamas, boxers, and nightgowns
    Tight Yamataian bodysuits
    60 Kohanian Fur Coats
    Shipment of brand-new female undergarments
    Bunch of Backpacks and Bags
    Case of 30,000 condoms
    Lorath datapads
3 Meat grinders and 3 sausage making kits
    Mini Fridge

Mitsuko also made note of several items that she was transferring to Medical.

  • Crate of Medical Supplies
    Autonomous Triage Unit
    Backpack of Medical Supplies
Medicines from a ship's medical bay

She further recommended that more of the food stored in the cargo bay be inspected and used by the ship's cooks, before anything spoiled. Anything the cooks turned down should also be removed from the ship as soon as possible.

On the bridge, Hanako checked out the supply request. She saw no issue with the field uniform request and approved it and called Mitsuko on the phone. "Hello Mitsuko-Hei. I will distribute the items you listed to the crew when I get a chance," she said. "Is there a reason you are not with one of the away teams? I had thought you were going to HX-24."

Cabin 4

Mitsuko was in the Lounge, taking a short break from ferrying supplies between the Cargo Bay and Medical Center when she heard something unexpected : the phone in her cabin ringing. She was alerted to the call by the ship's communications system as well, but she was thankfully close enough to respond immediately. The Neko hurried to her cabin to answer.

"...C-captain! Oh!" Her eyes widened behind her glasses. Murakami hadn't been expecting a call from her, even if it made sense. She had indirectly contacted her several times today already, and they were two of the few crew members that had remained on the Eucharis.

"H-hello, Ketsurui-Shosho." She was bowing to the wall of her Cabin reflexively, although there was nobody around to notice. "Thank you...I thought it was best to be better prepared next time a situation like this comes up." Mitsuko blinked, going a bit pale at the question.

"...um...w-well, I thought it was decided to limit the size of Misato's team. I wasn't ordered to join the team heading to HX-24...a-and I thought it would be best if I remained here, even though Sune-Chusa asked for volunteers. Someone has to keep an eye on the Eucharis, right? I've gotten a lot of work done today, Ketsurui-Shosho. I um...I still need to discuss the excess food in the Cargo Bay with the cooks, actually."

Mitsuko was fretting, unseen. Twisting the phone's cord in her fingers, glancing around, chewing her lip nervously as she waited for Hanako's response. Was she in trouble? This was just like Ether, when she didn't take her Mindy because she wasn't ordered to. She'd been hoping to avoid heading into the field again so soon, to keep from making another mistake that might lose something even more valuable than a shuttle.

"The intent was to scout and build goodwill with the local civilian population. The easiest way to do that is to solve their problems. Some problems can be solved with logistics. As a supply person you should know that. I wanted you to go so you could work that angle. We could use some of the supplies I've purchased or supplies we find on HX-21 to get favors and information. You're on duty, so stop hanging out in your cabin and come up to the bridge and talk to the away teams and see who has what supplies and who needs what supplies and I'll use the ship to ferry them around," Hanako told Mitsuko over the phone.

Cabin 4

Mitsuko nodded to herself at first, still biting her lip. Then, things got worse. "B-but...!" She winced and stayed quiet, as Hanako continued. If she wanted Murakami to go, why hadn't she said anything before now? The only reason she was in her cabin was to answer the phone, but there was no point in trying to explain that now.

"...y-yes Shosho. Right away, Shosho." Her voice was quiet and neutral as she did her best to avoid revealing any of her jumbled emotions. Once Mitsuko was certain the conversation was over, she hung up the phone and quickly exited her cabin. She still had one last load to move from the Cargo Bay to the Medical Center. The slight detour would give her time to compose herself before facing the captain in person.

Soon enough, though, she'd be entering the bridge. Mitsuko bowed and tried to avoid looking directly at Hanako, moving towards the Communications station.

Bridge

Hanako opened a channel to both away teams. "Eucharis away teams, this is Eucharis actual. I have everyone on the same channel so we can talk with each other. I understand the situation on HX-21 is peaceful and there is a large amount of items to be claimed so Murakami-Ittô Hei will be coordinating logistics in getting them to where they need to go. Sune, what we need from the away team on HX-24 is to find out what you can use. Also note that if we make the locals happy with supplies, we can either do it with or without Grully's involvement, depending on what we hope to accomplish. That's where the away team comes in: I want to know if it's worth having him as a friend or if we should be undermining him. Either way I think it would help to have the general populace get a good impression of Yamatai."

Bridge

Mitsuko settled into the seat at the communications station as messages continued to send back and forth. She quietly nodded as she heard her name and her assignment. The Neko waited for communications between Sune and Hanako to die down for a moment before speaking on the unified channel.

"Nayacesen-Taii, this is Murakami-Hei. What is the status of your away team? Could you give me an idea of what type of cargo you've discovered?" She sighed to herself. I hope there's not another ship we have to tow, or more live cargo to worry about...

Bridge

Hanako rubbed her chin. "Mitsuko, Sune mentioned the possibility of setting up a refugee camp. If we set one up outside the city, it will need to have some sort of air filtration system so if there are any environmental systems components, those would be very useful."

Bridge

Mitsuko frowned as she listened to Takeyu's response. More slaves? What was wrong with the galaxy? At least the ones they'd found would be safe now, but it just made her wonder how many more were out there, abused or simply abandoned like an object. She sighed, but began looking through the list she was sent, trying to forget about such depressing thoughts.

When Hanako spoke up, she jerked up straight in her chair, tensing up a bit. "...r-right. I'll check." She blinked, glancing at the captain before leaning towards the station's screen to concentrate on the list again. "We deployed all of our CRDMs on Ether, otherwise they would have made a good base to start with."

Murakami pulled up a few items, separating them from the others on the screen. "There are some environmental system components, including air cleaners. There's not an exact count, but there's enough visible for Nayacesen-Taii to note it twice." She continued checking the list. "...I'm not sure what we could install them in, though. I suppose if we hauled the ship itself and some of the raw materials away..."

She seemed to be giving the situation some serious thought, brows furrowed behind her glasses. "If this airlock were repaired...and the ship were hollowed out." Mitsuko nodded. "We could use the excess along with other raw materials to create a simple, airtight structure that would filter the surface atmosphere into something breathable. The ship should have some living facilities for the crew already. It would be something to start with, at least." She peeked up at Hanako, to see what she thought of the idea.

Re: [Mission 18.3B] Filth Potpourri (HX-24)

Bridge

Ramiro remained at his station, monitoring the situations as they progressed. Growing concerned, he turned to Hanako.

"Shosho, it seems that the away team has been hitting some trouble. Some sort of hit was put out on the team and they've been taking fire, no word from our second away team yet. Is there anything you would like me to do?"

Bridge

"I do not like the idea of leaving a Lorath ship around either on HX-21 or HX-24. We need to tow it or destroy it I think. We could request huts from the depot but they'd take a day to get here. Perhaps we should see if the away team on HX-24 can find a place to rest up and spend the night?" Hanako replied to Mitsuko.

Next, she turned to Ramiro.

"We'll maintain orbit over planet Urtullan until the away team finishes its assessment of the city complex there," Hanako answered Ramiro. "I know it's difficult waiting up here while they get all the action, but you should know several of them have been injured by the local civilians. It's apparently not the friendliest city. I am hoping to use some of the supplies from HX-21 to make it a nicer place to live." She glanced back to Mitsuko for a moment before continuing. "While we're waiting, I'd like to to check on some of the nearby star systems and let me know which ones are good candidates for colonization and if there are any unknown civilizations around that we can make peaceful contact with."

Bridge

Mitsuko stayed quiet after her suggestion. The radio had gotten much busier, as Hanako and Sune discussed the escalating situation. There was no way she was going to insert herself into that conversation, and there was nothing for her to say about Takeyu's mission at the moment.

Once the captain had a moment to respond to her, Murakami nodded. "I understand, Shosho. Perhaps I could append a request for supplies to assist the civilians on HX-24 to what I've already submitted? I could also request a ship better equipped to tow the Lorath vessel be dispatched, so we can remain free to respond to the...situation."

She seemed worried about that, chewing her lip for a moment. "...I don't think they should spend another minute in that place, Shosho, much less the night." Mitsuko had no idea why they would continue their mission in their current condition, especially now that the state of the underground city, and the attitude of its citizens, had been made perfectly clear. Hanako seemed determined to force Sune and the others to wade in even deeper, for reasons she didn't understand. Murakami had come to expect this sort of behavior from the captain, though. Whether it was the mission on Ether and its sudden cancellation, or the abrupt end of their vacation to drop them into their current situation, the captain made odd choices with her crew's lives, and then seemed to change things on a whim, upsetting plans and exposing them to new risks. Mitsuko had a feeling the captain would drop this current obsession soon enough, they just had to follow orders and try to survive, even if the current mission seemed pointlessly dangerous.

"Do you have a list of systems of interest yet, Ramiro?" Hanako asked after several minutes.
