The Next Morning

The Eucharis's heavily-used fold drives brought the veteran warship into the HX-12 system with a WHUMP noise echoing through the ship as she appeared in a shimmer of teal and white sparkles that faded to reveal her usual appearance with her distinctive red paint and heavily-patched hull, her blade-like main array, her piles of gun turrets, and her glowing teal blue aether plasma engines.

Engineering

Cherry, dressed her protective jumpsuit, fanned at the burning smell and mild smoke looking for whatever just broke. The answer came when Mango called to complain that the power to the dining room was offline, which was going to allow the chicken strips and waffles to get cold. "Hold on, I think it is just a blown relay. Give me ten minutes," she answered before hanging up the phone.

Captain's Suite

Hanako pushed her giant fur comforter aside and slowly rotated and put her feet onto the carpeted floor of her small cabin, following the curved ceiling into her closet and emerged with a duty uniform and set it on a wooden chest. She entered the small bathroom. A sigh escaped her lips as she pissed, closing her eyes and mentally going through the latest feeds and mail that had downloaded into her brain during the night. Flush. After a shower with her cherry-blossom-scented shampoo she toweled herself off and started working on her multi-hued hair.

A tone sounded followed by Blackberry's monotonous voice. "Good morning, Shosho. We have arrived in the HX-12 star system," the starship operator said in Yamataian.

"Thank you," Hanako said as she pulled up her underwear, then tights. Soon the rest of her uniform was on, including the reassuring heft of her pistol belt, and she was ready to face the crew.

Wardroom

The regular, annoying chirping of a waffle iron and the bubbling hiss of a deep fryer emanated from the galley as Mango made chicken and waffles for the crew. Out on the bar there were strawberry, blueberry, and cherry syrups for the waffles that were full of fresh fruit. Also available was fresh oranges and hash browns made from potatoes grown in the cargo bay. Jalapenos, cheese, and ham chunks were mixed into them. Milk and orange juice were available to drink. Unfortunately due to the electrical issue, some of the food that was supposed to be hot was getting cold.

Hanako entered and got a plate with a little of everything on the buffet and started eating the lukewarm food with her communicator, reviewing what she knew of the HX-12 system. In YE 31, the YSS Eucharis rescued Tasuku Yarani, an old YSS Sakura crewman here just before the start of the start of the Second Mishhuvurthyar War. It was just before the First Battle of Nataria. Suddenly she smiled. "Lime," she called towards the kitchen.

The bright-green-haired day cook stepped out of the galley, "Yes, Shosho?"

"I remember the last time we were in this star system, you made a rich chocolate chip-filled chocolate cake, iced with creamy fudge-swirled chocolate cream cheese and walnut chunks and topped with a puff of chocolate whipped cream and a chocolate-coated cherry. I called it an orgasm on a plate!"

"Haha! I remember it! That was four years ago! And we went into battle right afterward. I think the leftovers got ruined in the fight," Lime laughed. "Such a horrible day that was, the start of a long war that is only now coming to an end."

"Could you make it again?" Hanako begged.

"Of course, captain!" Lime grinned. "I will have it done for dinner."

Hanako nodded and Lime returned to the kitchen. She thought to herself the last time she'd had that cake was about the time she met Sune. He had just transferred in for a ship called the Bouken and the old first officer was jealous of him.

She recalled from the logs that the atmosphere of HX-12 II contained toxic levels of CO2 (+30%) and that the primary 'buffer gas' (argon) of the atmosphere was highly narcotic at 2.2 times standard atmospheric pressure. Tasuku and the Golden Apple away team had described it as a thin, hot, and "nasty" yellowish choking haze in a perpetual sandstorm and spore clouds. The terrain in most areas was desert or savanna, due to low water levels and crowded with fungus spikes and mushrooms. The source of the distress call transmission had been an antenna on the top of a steep ridge and a cable led back to a crashed freighter (that was not the Goban or a Star Army ship) at the bottom of the cliff, partially surrounded by sand buildup.

This little out-of-the-way star system had a lot of memories connected to it, she realized. Next there were logs from other ships. The only thing of note was that last year, the 12th Fleet had entered the system and found an NMX base but the occupants had self-destructed it.

She put of the information she put into a summary and put it up on a the volumetric screen as the day shift began to arrive for breakfast.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Ramiro and Takeyu's Cabin

Ramiro awoke with a stretch. Cracking a majority of his joints, he glanced over at his alarm clock, surprised to see that it was still twenty minutes before his alarm was scheduled to go off. Smiling, he reached over, turned off his alarm, and climbed out of bed. Bending in every direction, his back cracked a few more times. He then grabbed a towel and headed off for a shower.

He took a little longer than usual, knowing that he had plenty of time. After taking the full twenty minutes to soak, he dried himself off, returned to the cabin, and changed into his duty uniform. Glancing at the time once more, he noted that he was still fifteen minutes ahead of schedule. Cracking his neck and back once more he slowly made his way over to the bridge.

Bridge

Ramiro entered the bridge, hands folded behind his back, whistling a merry tune.

"Good morning Blackberry, how was the evening."

"Uneventful. We've arrived at HX-12."

"Hmm," Ramiro responded thoughtfully as he walked over to one of the stations and opened up a star map.

"In the Hanako cluster," he continued. "We've been through here before, haven't we."

"Yes, we came through here once before."

"Ah, I thought we might have. Charisma, can you get me any information that we have on this system? Any scans from the previous visit?

"Yes. The HX-12 system is centered around a Yellow Main Sequence Star that burns at 5900K and has a radi..."

"Can you skip that part?"

"HX-12 I is an asteroid belt, no significant information regarding this item exists. HX II has a radius of just under 9000km and has an atmoshpere of 44.5% argon, 33.2% carbon dioxide, and 22.3% oxygen. On our last visit in March, YE 31 we placed an Orbital Geological Survey Platform which was destroyed by the NMX. There was then an NMX starport established which was destroyed in YE 34 by a nuclear blast."

"Charisma..." Ramiro jumped in before pausing. "YE 31, that was four years ago, yes? Right before the war?"

"That is correct Ramiro. Data indicated the initial attack took place 01 April YE 31."

Ramiro leaned back in his seat, thinking to himself about what had happened before the war. "We were just talking about this timeframe not too long ago," Ramiro thought outline before jumping up out of his seat.

"Blackberry, I'm going to head to breakfast and relieve you upon my return."

"Okay Ramiro, I'll see you soon."

Ramiro nodded and exited the bridge. From behind him he could hear Blackberry yell out, "The Shosho should already be down there."

Wardroom

Ramiro walked into the Wardroom and smiled as he saw Hanako. Walking over, he bowed deeply. "Ketsurui-sama." He raised himself from the bow before making his way towards the buffet table. "How did you sleep ma'am?" He filled his plate while he waited for her to respond and then took a seat at the table directly across from her.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 1

Sune woke to his alarm, and rose from his bed. He did a few simple stretching exercises to clear his mind. "Charisma kindly display ship status, and any pending communications."

A moment later the display on his ICP came on and he could see the Euchari's course. HX-12. It seemed like a life time ago, it was his first mission aboard the Eucharis. It was the mission where the Eucharis had not one but two XO's. He remembered clearly the events that marked the start of the war. The message from command.

Ironically that mission was also the trigger event for a new direction in Sune's life. It had become apparent that the Eucharis did not need two medics. The following mission Sune had spoken to Hanako regarding a change of assignment.

Four years later he was now the XO of the Eucharis. Trying to do his best by the crew and Shosho.

He pulled out a clean uniform and dressed into it quickly. While the Type 35 Duty Uniform had its lines, he still missed his familiar Type 30.

A quick check in the mirror to ensure his appearance was acceptable, he left his cabin and made his way down to the Wardroom.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 2, Morning

Natsumi opened one eye slowly as the world began to come back to her. The most present thought in her mind as she slowly woke was how warm and comfortable her bed was and how much she did not want to leave it. She pulled her thick comfy blankets up tighter around her body and let herself enjoy a few more minutes of lazy bliss before she shoved the blankets off of herself and swung her feet out of the bed and planted them on the deck.

Rubbing her eyes, Natsumi slowly pushed herself to her feet, wobbling a little as she balanced herself. She made sure to keep quiet as she went about gathering her things. She was not sure if Bors was still asleep in his bunk still or not.

Shuffling over to her locker, she got out a fresh uniform, underwear, hygiene supplies and a brush from the kit the Shosho had given her on the holiday break.

Then, still in a half awake daze, Natsumi shuffled out of the cabin and to the showers. She took a nice long shower, letting the hot water relax and sooth her before turning the water off. She dried herself with her soft fuzzy towel, then got dressed.

Once attired in her blue and gray uniform, she brushed out her long white hair and made sure she was all prepared for the day, then returned to her cabin to put away her things. Then she was off to the wardroom for breakfast!

She was fully awake and refreshed as she entered the wardroom, here leg didn't even hurt anymore. "Good morning, Shosho!" she said to Hanako with a bow as she paused by the table, then manifested herself at the buffet, acquiring a plate and quickly filling it with yummy foods.

Settling herself at the table, Natsumi happily dug into her morning meal.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 2

Bors had only barely managed to fall asleep 'in' his bunk, the Nepleslian had spent most of the night cleaning and examining the assault rifle he had obtained only a few hours before hand on HX-24, as well as enjoying a few drinks to help him relax. Having only slept a few hours as well as having a minor headache, Bors had managed to drag himself out of bed shorty after Natsumi had left. Grabbing a fresh uniform and made his way to the showers.

Bors looked at his reflection in the shower room mirror shortly after entering, and all he could think of his that he looked like a mess. His face had several black smudges across it from the dirt and grime from cleaning his weapons, as well has a slightly thicker than normal scruff shadowing his face. Upon closer inspection he noticed that he had some slight bags under his eyes and that he was a bit pailer than usual, reasoing that it was from the blood lost he suffered the day before and that he didn't have his normal amount circulating yet. Shaking his head he striped off his clothes and hopped in the shower, turning it to cold to try and wake himself up a bit.

Wardroom

After cleaning himself up Bors made his way to the wardroom for breakfast, giving a small salute as he groggily greeted his superiors already there. Helping himself to a bit of everything and grabbed himself a glass of orange juice, quietly grumbling to himself about the lack of coffee, before taking his usual seat and stared working on his breakfast.

Cabin 4

Mitsuko got out of bed rather quickly once she realized she was awake, hurrying to get ready. She didn't want to mess anything up today, and was going to do her best to be prepared. Although, with all of the wild missions the Eucharis had been involved with since she'd joined, it was tough to know what to expect. She was worried about exploring yet another system they knew relatively little about, but there was little Murakami could do in this situation.

She would help wake up her roommate, if Misato was still asleep, before finishing her preparations for the day. Heading to the Wardroom in the new Duty Uniform, Mitsuko was still slightly uncomfortable in the shorter skirt. This distraction kept her from spotting the screen full of information Hanako had displayed for a few moments, but when she did see it, she stopped in her tracks. The Neko's eyes moved rapidly behind her glasses as she soaked everything up, adding it to the more commonly available knowledge she had looked up before bed.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 7

Citrine woke when she heard Victory getting up. It was not a good night for her, strange ship sounds, a new cabin. She missed the rhythm of her roommates breathing. It took a while before she finally dozed out.

She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and then lowered herself from the top bunk.

"Good Morning" she said turning to Victory.

The green haired Nekovalkyrja turned around as she pulled her leggings up and adjusted them. "Trouble sleeping? You seemed a bit restless last night."

"A little bit, just strange environment, the Eucharis does not sound like the Firebird, and I shared a room with two people there, so there was not the usual breathing sounds." She crossed over to her locker, put on clean undergarments and then started putting on her Type 35 Duty Uniform.

"I will save you a seat in the Wardroom." Victory said look back at Citrine before the door closed.

"Thank you. I will be just a few minutes." Citrine said with a smile.

Once the door closed, she continued with her dressing. Once her skirt was in place she took her new brush and worked to get her hair acceptable. Hair in place she put on her tunic and then the belt. Looking in the mirror she deemed herself passable.

She closed the locker and headed to the Wardroom.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 4

As Soon as her roommate started moving around Misato's eyes popped open. "Good Morning." She grunted, she always hated waking up. It was like she took a hit to the head. She rolled out of her bunk and walked out of the room. She quickly went down to the PA bay and ran a few checks over her PA. The Mindy stood ready, he load out from the last operation was still loadded up. She was please and placed a hand on the Mindy's "cheek." "Thank you," She wispered before heading band and putting on her uniform. I was please with the new look, the skirt was a little short but oh well she had ran around in less.

Wardroom

She walked into the Wardroom a few seconds after Mimi'chan. When Misato saw Mimi in the new uniform she decided that the skirt wasn't short enough. With a smile on her face she walked up and looked at the data her roommate was looking at. "What are we studying here?"

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Maintance tunnel

A loud 'thud' could be heard as Takeyu banged his head on the overhead ceiling, causing the Taii to let out a series of expletives at the pain before he lowered his head and got back to work inspecting the ships life-support systems.

"Ughs..." groaned the chief engineer as pulled the panel off and inspected the insides. He was checking for any wear and tear, not like he was expecting any right now but he wanted to make certain.

When he was done he closed up the panel and carefully made his way out of the tunnel and into one of the ships passage-ways which connected to it. Once out, he sealed up the tunnel and then made his way to his cabin to change out of his work clothing and into something cleaner for the morning.

Once finished, he noticed that the bed that Ramiro used was empty. He's up, muttered the Taii as he fixed his hair and checked to make sure his uniform was on properly before making his way to the wardroom.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 6

The first thing that Sienna noticed when her eyes opened was the soothing feel of the silk pajamas against her, and the warm blanket pulled up around her neck. She never realized just how much more restful it was to sleep after a shower and in a clean set of clothes. The second thing she noticed was that she had been relatively gently woken by the dull thumps and murmurs behind the walls of the little cabin she'd been graced with all to herself, and not by Olaf's boot kicking her in the ribs, prodding her to get up and get to work. She was alone, clean, and in her own private space, no one around to bother her. She glanced over at the mirror on the opposite wall, seeing where she'd laid Natsumi's borrowed clothes on the desk. She made a mental note to be sure to return them, but she quickly realized there probably wasn't a big rush. Natsumi wasn't going anywhere as far as she knew, and she still hadn't seen her own clothes returned to her yet.

She sighed as a big grin spread across her face, and she rolled over to face the wall, hugging the blanket to her chest. She was already a little hungry, even after that monstrous dinner, but sleeping in an actual bed was too great a pleasure to quit just yet. She closed her eyes and relaxed again, opting to simply enjoy one of the first moments of peace she could remember in a long, long time.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Sune made his way down the hallway towards the lounge. He saw two bundles stacked neatly by the door to Cabin 6. The bottom one was Sienna's backpack cleaned. On top of it were Sienna's clothes folded neatly.

Well at least she will not have to wear that ridiculous floral body suit. She looked absolutely miserable wearing it. he thought as he walked.

He ascended the stairs up to the Wardroom. The wardroom air filled with the usual breakfast smells. But for some reason it appeared that the buffet area was not working properly. He paused by Hanako, "Good morning Shôshô. I trust you slept well." he looked over at the buffet. "Technical issues?" he inquired when he turned back to Hanako.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Wardroom

Hanako gave a smile to the crew members as they took their seats at the table. "I slept well," she answered Ramiro. "Good morning Natsumi." When Sune asked about the buffet, Hanako answered, "Cherry is working on repairing a small power failure. It should be working again soon. In the meantime, things are not as warm as usual but everything is freshly cooked so it is not a major issue as long as everyone gets to breakfast on time," Hanako explained. "On that note may want to ask Sienna to come up here while everything is warm," she added.

Gesturing up at the planetary data readouts and information displayed above the wardroom table, Hanako announced, "Good morning everyone. We are currently in orbit over HX-12 II. Our mission for today is general exploration of the system for any NMX forces or objects of interest. We can investigate this planet or any other planet, moon, or asteroid in this system. I am also willing to let a team visit neighboring HX-13 and participate in Operation Kozan if you want, although it means leaving the Eucharis for an indefinite period. After this I plan to make contact with the civilization in the HX-14 system. As usual, my domain will be the ship and it will be up to you to organize and plan the mission. So we should discuss what we to do over breakfast."

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Wardroom

Mitsuko let out a small gasp as Misato pulled her back to the present. "Oh! Information about the new mission." This one seemed less obviously dangerous, so she wasn't feeling too anxious. Yet.

Moving to fill her plate, Murakami listened to the briefing Hanako was beginning. Settling into a seat, she began happily working on the rather large amount of food she'd gathered while looking up more information. There wasn't too much to learn about the other systems, but she wanted to know what to expect, at least.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Wardroom

Sune walked over to the buffet and got himself a couple of waffles, some hashbrowns. He added some ham to his hashbrowns, grabbed an orange and glass of orange juice.

He walked back over to the table and took a seat near Hanako. Of her suggestions the only one that appealed to him was staying in HX-12. There were multiple objects, it seemed a better choice than sending folks off to join another operation.

He sent a message to Citrine asking her to stop by Sienna's cabin.

He looked at the inventory, and noted that the Eucharis was lacking a number of items that would facility the exploration of a system. Not a single VCMAD was on the ship. The drones would have let them do a scan for anything intriguing then set down a team. As it was it would literally be a needle in a haystack.

Cabin 7
Citrine was just stepping out of her cabin when her communicator chirped. She looked at the message from Sune. Stepping over to the next cabin she pressed the door buzzer for Cabin 6 twice and waited.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Wardroom

Natsumi relaxed in her chair, enjoying her breakfast as the morning discussion progressed. She listened with mild interest as the Captain went over the plans to check out the local planets and moons for any NMX forces and otherwise general exploration and survey.

Her attention was piqued though when Hanako mentioned HX-13 and Operation Kozan. The operation was a large scale landing assault against an NMX stronghold on that planet. She knew little to nothing about it other than the fact that her sister, Yamashiro Sakura, was assigned to one of the infantry battalions.

She had not seen her younger sister in a long time, well long being relative compared to Natsumi's short time in the universe. The last time had been when Natsumi was finishing up and about to be assigned to the Eucharis, Sakura was just beginning.

She would love to see her sister again, but had no idea what sort of condition things were in on HX-13, nor was she too keen on getting into her MINDY and blasting around in the mud with Mishhu if there was serious fighting going on.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Wardroom

Ramiro leaned back and stroked his chin, thinking silently to himself before speaking up. "I was reviewing some of the system data when I was on the bridge earlier. We've been here before, haven't we Shosho? I remember getting the distress signal from the Sakura and making our way over here. And then it happened..." Ramiro trailed off for a moment, paused, and sighed before continuing. "Either way, if I recall correctly there was a downed freighter on a mountain top where the crew member we picked up had been staying. It might be best to start there."

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 6

Even though its volume wasn't oppressively loud, the grinding sound of a buzzer jarred Sienna from her light sleep, and she jumped up partially, sitting up on her elbows. She looked around in groggy alarm with half-opened eyes, and a confused grunt rumbled in her throat. It took her a moment to realize what the sound was.

Guess that's as long as they're gonna let me sleep, she thought as she flopped her head back sloppily onto her pillow, and arched her back as she reached her hands up to the bottom of the bunk above her, stretching. With a long yawn, she lazily shoved the covers off of her and swung her feet to the ground. She curled her bare toes on the cabin's carpet, clearing her throat. "Yeah, just a sec," she groggily said to whoever was behind the door. She stood, lightly thumping her head against the top bunk, not hard enough to really hurt, but enough to rattle her senses and make her frown and swear under her breath. She'd have to get used to the overhang if she was going to stay here.

Shuffling half-aware to the door, she slid it open and saw the medic who'd examined her in the medbay standing there, fresh as a daisy in a crisp uniform. She managed a small grin just before another yawn took over, and she simply gave her a pair of raised eyebrows to inquire what she wanted as she gracelessly scratched the back of her dissheveled hair.

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 6

Citrine stood waiting, looking around the lounge as she waited for Sienna to open the door. When the door opened and Sienna appeared, she took a moment to note her appearance. Oh fish, looks like I woke her up. I do not think she would be walking around with bed head otherwise. Well I was just following orders. she thought.

"Good morning Sienna. I apologize for waking you. Breakfast is currently being served in the Wardroom. Jalen-Chusa asked me to stop by. He wanted me to let you know that if you want warm food for breakfast you should come up while it is still being served."

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 6

"Mm," Sienna groaned in a vague affirmative as she yawned again and nodded. She blinked the sleep away from her eyes and ran a hand through her hair again, realizing she probably looked like a shambling mess. Not that she was terribly concerned about it. "Ain't gonna turn down hot food," she continued as she finished yawning. "Any word on my clothes yet, though? Doubt they'd want me up there in this, and Natsumi probably wants her clothes ba--"

She cut herself off as she noticed that her backpack and clothing was neatly folded on the floor just outside of her door. She glanced back up at Citrine with a grin. "Heh. Never mind," she said. "Let 'em know I'll be up there in a few."

Re: [Mission 19.1] (HX-12 System)

Cabin 6

Citrine smirked at Sienna's response to her items being returned. "I can understand how you feel. I will be glad when my personal items are brought over from the Firebird. I will let them know you will be up shortly. See you in a few." She said, then turned and made her way to the Wardroom.

Wardroom

Citrine looked around at the Wardroom. Several members were sitting at the main table, and it appeared that yet another briefing of some sort was starting. Why don't these people have a meal then conduct a meeting. Hopefully it will not turn into another scene like last night. she thought.

She approached the table, "Jalen-Chusa, I have delivered your message to Ms Sienna. She will be up here shortly."

Citrine then turned to Hanako, "Shôshô, is there an ETA for the Firebird to arrive in system. I would like to get my possessions." she inquired.
