Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Finishing the Flan set before him, Kai got up and walked over to Yoroko, Tapping her gingerly on the shoulder as he asked " What was that you said about the femtomachines? That piqued my interest" He figured Yukari would be busy enough and that Yoroko could tell him what he wanted anyway, rather than somewhat sneakily going about it via his previous method.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"...and you would not be wrong," Kotori replied, rewarding Nyton with an apologetic smile. "I appreciate your initiative. Five in the morning should do nicely."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Very well. Five in the morning then." Nyton replied. He then reached over and put a hand on her shoulder. "And your humor is not unappreciated, Kotori-sama. I never said I would not like waking up next to you."

Kel said:
The violet-haired Yamataian caught up with Yukari halfway down the hall. "It seems," she remarked neutrally, "that this ship is getting rather crowded of late."

"To our benefit," Yukari replied. "We will need as many hands and minds as possible to defeat our enemies."

She had few thoughts about the recent additions, or most of the crew. Her mind was punctuated by one individual, and that bothered her greatly. She did not wish to fail her crew with a preoccupation, least of all one of that nature.

"The Taisa's plan is one of cunning and risk ... we perhaps should not have expected less."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori rewarded Nyton with a little grin, chuckled silently and then tilted her head curiously. "What else did you want to ask me?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sumaru took a small stroll around the Miharu's botanical garden. His frost blue eyes glanced off through the zesuaium windows surrounding him. Then he paused as he came across a bright pink hibiscus. A slight smile appeared on his lips as his thoughts wandered towards Tatiana, as he used to love the pink vibrant flower during it's summer bloom, to him it was a link to fond summer memories of festivals and just the wonderful free feeling they entailed. "It'd be about that time again, right sisters?" Sumaru whispered inwardly as he lightly clutched two hair clips in one of his Neko hands.

Sumaru stayed a little while, he knelt down beside the pink flowers and lifted a delicate hand to the petals gingerly brushing his dainty fingers across the surface with a soft smile. Loosing him self in a rush of memories, his sight fixed on the flower, Sumaru felt the area around him become familiar once again. Being lost in a memory he found to give him much comfort in the past, of long ago when he used to watch his sisters dress up in their kimono for the summer festival, they would wear these flowers in their hair. His mother would hum this song and sing a few lines here and there as she worked hard at preparing their outfits. Sumaru absentmindedly began humming the same tune to him self, the Asian melodic music would echo quietly in the area around him. The sound was soft, kind and even haunting in a sense, but unlike his mother’s sweet tune, Sumaru’s version seemed distant, his true emotions playing out for the flower to listen and offer its mute sympathies and comforting image to invoke such beloved memories.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"It may seem rather menial but I also wondered if you wanted some dessert. You left dinner rather abruptly and I was unsure if you had eaten your fill yet." Nyton offered, smiling back at Kotori.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"I'm fine for the moment," Kotori assured Nyton. The nekovalkyrja's mood seemed to have improved considerably with all the banter had since Nyton had come in.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Should you at a later time then, feel free to call me." Nyton said as he allowed his hand to travel down from Kotori's shoulder to her hand. He allowed it to linger there for a few seconds before he started speaking again. "I hope that you had a good time today. I enjoyed being your escort on Yamatai. Quite frankly being a retainer is a lot easier when the woman I serve is someone I consider to be a good friend."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori looked at where Nyton's hand rested, having followed the hand's trip down with her amber eyes, before she replied. "Today was not an easy day, but it was a good one. I am persuaded you helped it be a better. I greatly appreciated your support."

"If you ever need good references in future jobseeking endeavors, I'll happily vouch for your proficiency at toweling as well as hairstyling." Her face broke into a smirk. "It was an interesting tactical choice to go sponging away at my legs in the middle of all that drama."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori's good humor made Nyton grin while narrowing his eyes. "I thought it would be a shame to let the tea stain your dress." he said before chuckling a little. "Be it a tea spill or an empire I am here to support you in anyway possible, Kotori-sama." Nyton added with a gentle squeeze to Kotori's hand.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton's words seemed to sober up the nekovalkyrja besides him. Kotori gave him a searching look a moment, as if silently appraising him, before simply nodding and asking again: "Was there anything else you wished to cover with me?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Pausing to think for a moment, Nyton then pieced his next topic together. "Well, not to suddenly shift back to business but I wanted to know if there is anything currently in the Empire that concerns you. Perhaps a chain of events or some pan-system subject that you could use an extra set of eyes to watch." Nyton then said. He withdrew his hand from Kotori's and began to tap his fingers together. "I had not mentioned earlier but while I was on Nepleslia I came into contact with a few old friends of mine from my time at the War College. It turned out several of them had left for the UOC while others went to Nepleslia. We were able to set up a little contact system to stay in touch with. Nothing too fancy but it never hurts to know someone on the other side of the wall."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

She shook her head. "Nothing comes to mind," Kotori replied. "Mind you, the Empire has had its changes and upheavals, while our mission remained important enough to remain mostly the same. I'm honestly not worrying myself much over it seeing that for the big picture, there's little I can actually change for the moment until I am done with the Daughters of Eve."

She frowned. "I was supposed to have an audience with Motoyoshi Tio and Tange-Katsura Ayana about their encounters with Melisson, but the whole UOC split made that unlikely to happen now. I figure a dozen of things could go bad if a ship bearing two Ketsurui princesses went into UOC space, even with permission, so I decided against it."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

A slight nod before assuming the thinking position was Nyton's response before he spoke. "Yes I can see how that would make things difficult. With relations between Yamatai and the UOC still very touchy we would create something of a stir. Not the kind of attention a SAINT ship on a secret mission would want. Plus I don't believe the Fifth had much of a reputation between the two of you to go by."

Nyton released the pose and leaned forward a bit, resting his elbows on his knees. "Not much any of us can do on the grander scale right now, is there?" he said, not with any emotion but rather more like a flat statement. He looked at her with his main eyes. "What would you do if you were Empress? Given our current state of affairs, what sort of work would you do in regards to this?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"As an Empress? I'm not sure that's a question I can give any accurate answer to," Kotori answered, her amber eyes fixated on his. "My need to become the Empress is so that I can hold influence over the things I find the most important, and do not trust another to uphold since I feel those important bits to myself are not properly represented in my nation's society or what lurks beneath. That is why I must be Empress - to insure this. Being Empress, however, won't be a magical solution to many of the flaws and problems some might see in the Yamatai Star Empire."

"For example, my performance as a ship captain lead me to do actions which are hardly based on the ideals I have been raised to uphold. I have become, in some ways, harsh, relentless and perhaps even cruel. I am trapped in serving the Star Army of Yamatai, even if I recognize that the motivations of the underlings of Eve might even go to the point of being considered righteous from both their perspective and mine. Still, my choices were directed by the needs of my situation - and I suspect that as a ruler I could end up being in the same moral tug of war. As I hold the office of Empress, decisions will be presented before me and I will have the pressure behind my decision depending on the context and the pride from Yamatai itself. What will make the most difference overtime, I think, will be how I answer the dilemmas of the everyday problems of the office and not any single momentous move I could achieve after I sit on the Imperial Throne."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yoroko looked over at Kai, "It's nothing much. I was just thinking that we could possibly track unknown movements throughout the ships by how they displace the femtomachines from a preset pattern. It seems like it will work...but Miharu thinks that it wouldn't take the black spiral long to figure it out and hack the femtomachines. I don't really know how it will work, but I'm inclined to believe her." Yoroko said before looking toward Sanjuro. "Ashitaka-Heisho, if I could get a moment of your time before my bridge shift begins that would be great." Yoroko said telepathically to the Yamataian.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton sat back and nodded. "But you at least recognize that. I don't believe anyone can simply enter that role and expect everything to fall into place. You also see that it will be the results over time, a long period of time, that define your rule." he said with a smile.

"I hope this also means you realize that you will have to stick it out through the long term. And it won't be an easy run either. I took some time to study the events of the Motoyoshi's rule. While I appreciated the enthusiastic attempt at trying to change the Empire I could not help but feel that the moment things became too difficult they fled in shame. Granted it was a difficult situation having to deal with the Ketsurui institution being so deeply ingrained, they did not have the mettle to continue pushing through." he continued.

"You know, not many two year olds have that kind of foresight. Keep that strength of will too and I think you'll make a fine Empress. I believe in you." Nyton said before smiling warmly at Kotori.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sanjuro, whom was growing quite tired of messing idly with his untouched dessert, looked up from the datapad in his other hand and glanced down the table in Yoroko's direction. Instead of answering telepathically, however, the odd medical officer returned a reply to her in his very plain, very familiar voice.

"I am free right now, Mizuno-Hei," Sanjuro said as he checked his wristwatch with a practiced flick of his wrist. "I have roughly fifteen minutes before I will return to the medical facility...do you need something from me?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kai thought for a Moment before responding. "Miharu should have enough computing power to tell when it loses control of a hacked Femtomachine, I should think, so even if they did manage that, it could still be useful to track them. I would think that to override a number of femtomachines and make it seem like it's still in control would be too much work for a PA's computer. Of course, I don't know what kind of crazy suits our enemies have, so I could be grasping at straws." the Yamataian looked back at Yoroko hoping she had not been too distracted by Sanjuro as to ignore him.
