RP: YSS Miharu Mission 4: The Fame and the Fury

Kyou sat down, folding her hands in front of her. "Well, ma'am, I have no specialization as of yet. I can take any role you need me in, though I am most likely suited for a rifleman as it currently stands." Her mouth twitched. "If you see fit to train me for another role, or assign me to learn it, I will not object."

Kaida stayed where she was when asked what role she would fill. She felt that was a bit of an odd question considering they had already decided to take her in, but she decided to humor Masako for now. "My skills have always been in sharpshooting, Juni. I believe that if you make the first shot count, you shouldn't have to waste a second." She cleared her throat and elaborated, "During training, I was noted for making headshots during the simulations to take down unarmored enemies or opponents whose shielding had been damaged. I can pull this off at many ranges without the assistance of automated targeting." She seemed particularly proud of that last bit.

Kaida coughed once as she finished, "Of course, I am able and willing to learn whatever additional skills are required." It was left to assume that she had of course passed all of the requirements in basic in order to even be here.

"Yes, Yamada-hei did mention you were a sharpshooter," Masako replied calmly, though her eyes seemed to narrow slightly at Kaida's bragging tone. Confidence was one thing, but overconfidence could get people killed. "I had planned on you being the sharpshooter as soon as I heard that, but you will be tested on that before I'm willing to believe everything I've heard," the young Warrant Officer explained before looking at Kyou.

"Gunshin-hei, I would like to train you as a Heavy Weapons Specialist of our Wing. Yamada-hei will be a rifleman with Nakamura-hei and Mizuno-hei," she decided before smiling again. "Of course, most of this is just a trial for the moment. I want to make sure you are all in roles where you are comfortable and efficient," she explained before standing. "Anyway, I believe it would be best for you to choose a room before we move on to a tour of the Miharu. Those two halls both contain quarters for everyone," the raven-haired Neko began to explain.

"There are four Enlisted Quarters available on the Starboard side and eight on the Port side. Quarters on the far end of the corridors are Officer's Quarters and are not up for grabs. If any of you feel like sharing a room, you are welcomed to do so, but there are plenty of rooms to chose room," Masako explained. "Go on and find your rooms, we will meet back here as soon as you've stowed your equipment."

"Thank you for taking me so readily, Kurohoshi-juni... I will try to honor you with my skill." Tsuya turned to bowed deeply to each of her three comrades. "...and I will love to work with you, Nagamira-hei and Gunshin-hei. I look forward to seeing your skills." She offered them both a smile, then picked up her bags with a small grunt and set off towards her room - EP9.

As she walked, she thought, taking advantage of the small amount of time she had to herself. Kurohoshi-juni is so kind, she mused, almost giddily. I hope we become friends... I want her to like me. It didn't take her very long to put her things away - just in a cursory fashion; she'd have time to arrange everything just the way she liked it later. When she was done, she sped back to the observation deck.

"I look forward to working with you too, Yamada-Hei." Kyou smiled, then bowed once more to Masako, before heading to the cabin of her choice, SE8. "Miharu, would you inform Sigurd that I have taken residence in room SE8, so he knows where to take my things? No need to make him look it up himself." She went into the room, and sat down, waiting for a response of some kind.

The eye narrowing from Masako did not go unnoticed by Kaida. Did she say too much? She was used to saying so little, and was advised to not be so withdrawn before she left. But if that was too much... then what? This confused and frustrated Kaida, but she did her best to not show it. "Of course, Juni. I would not dream of asking anyone of taking mere words at face value. I will gladly perform whatever tests you desire." Was she already making a bad impression? She hoped not, but the thought of such was enough to worry her. Deciding to instead take a room like the others around her were. With a semi-audible sigh that had a thick tone of self reprimandation, she headed off, sub-conciously taking the room next to Tsuya, PE10.

Kel said:

Miyoko moved to stop the android from grabbing the additional load, but it was too late. "Er, these can wait until later, if you're busy with the luggage now. Help the others first, then we'll see about this."

The droid paused at Miyoko's request, then carefully set the special container down. "As requested, Heisho. I shall return for them shortly. In the meantime, the others are on the Observational Deck."

With that, Sigurd made his way to the Nekos' various rooms to deposit their things. By the time the new recruits arrived, everything was where it was meant to be ... though by the time Sigurd returned, no one was on the Observational Deck to welcome Miyoko back. It was her and the droid, with innumerable sweets between them.

Kyou unpacked her things, having discovered them in a corner of the room. As she put everything away, she thought. So, heavy weapons? Could be worse, that's at least close to normal. Done with her unpacking, she stood, and looked around. A bit bare, but I guess I'll just have to decorate it as I go... With that in mind, she left her room, headed back to the deck, to meet with Masako for whatever she had planned.

Miyoko was quite content to wait for Sigurd to return, despite the fact that she could carry the container with only a little minor inconvenience. No sense hurrying to work, after all--there'd be plenty of time for that later.

Upon arriving at the observation deck, Miyoko popped the container open, making it almost instantly start to fill the space with the smell of the pile of assorted pastries. That done, her obligation to the crew took a back seat to her own appetites. Miyoko claimed a small sealed container containing a slice of chocolate cake for herself. She was a good half of the way through it before she bothered to ask, "Miharu, please let the rest of the crew know that the Shosa and I have brought sweets for everybody, if any of them are interested. They're set up on the observation deck."

Masako sat in her seat waiting for the trio to return from their room search, her left leg crossed over her right and her hands folded in her lap. While she realized she had her work cut out for her with the new recruits, the young Warrant Officer was quite pleased. This was actually more than she hoped for, especially a sharpshooting specialist.

Noting Tsuya returning, the raven-haired Neko waved with a smile. It was at that time, she saw Miyoko entering the Wardroom as well. "Ah, Saito-heisho," Masako greeted with a grin. Standing up from her seat, she moved over towards the violet-haired Science Specialist. "Oh..." she said in awe as she peeked around Miyoko. "What did you bring?" she asked as she looked at the desserts set up on the table, her mouth watering as she took in the sights.

"I'll notify Freeman-Juni," Miharu answered Miyoko. "He'll get to choose how to distribute the sweets you brought back. I mean... that is his job."

Tsuya didn't hurry back to the observation deck - she was more interested in looking at the corridors of the ship, trying to map it out in her head so she wouldn't get lost. The closed-in-ness was rather comforting to her, too; she always had a sense of unease in wide open spaces. When she smelled the scents of good food, though, she began to hustle, and waved to the two nekos when she returned to the deck.

"Mm, Saito-heisho... is that for us?"

"A wide selection of exotic and forbidden desserts, all the way from some base whose name I didn't bother to learn," Miyoko answered Masako. To Tsuya, she replied, "And yes, they're for everybody. Suzuka-Shosa and I bought enough to go around, hopefully. Although Miharu thinks that we should rely on Freeman-Juni to distribute the rest of them... I'd find him before we have to fend Mara away from them with a pitchfork, if you want any. Or just declare mob rule and grab some."

Kyou smiled slightly at the look on Masako's face when she came into the room. Looks like the Shosa took her own advice to heart... As she walked up close enough to hear the others, she smiled. I think I can guess what everybody in the room favors, but we should probably listen to Miharu."

Kaida noticed that, aside from lacking a restroom, the rooms were a bit nicer than what she was stuck in for basic. At least there was that. She decided that she would unpack later though... It wouldn't take long and there was still other, more important things to do.

She returned to the observation deck briskly, though only in time to hear the end of what Miyoko was saying, which sounded odd to only hear the last sentence. She decided not to speak yet though, as she had found that doing that had already earned her a bad mark. (Or at least, she assumed. Hard to tell with this crowd.)

Nyton's morning had started early. Between routines and work he stayed busy. Right now though he had decided to undertake a certain task that he did not find rather pleasant but would have to be done. Upon locating Takuma he then began to walk to the Observation Room. Fortunately it was still in between the gathering of all the new personnel transferring in so the only one present was the man Nyton was looking for, transfixed by the view.

"Enjoying the view?" Nyton asked while casually walking up to Takuma.

As her recruits returned, Masako felt slightly torn for a moment. Delicious cake or duties? Well, technically, the mental argument only lasted a brief moment. Duty came before cake, no matter how delicious, and that was that.

"All right now," she began as she pat Miyoko on the shoulder. "I'm going to show the Santo Hei around the ship," she informed the Science Specialist with a smile. "Save me a piece of cheesecake, okay?" And with that out of the way, she moved more into the Wardroom more forwards of the Observation Deck. "I guess I should start the tour here," she said to the newcomers with a cute grin. "This area is the Wardroom and Observational Deck. It's something you won't see on many vessels because the Himiko-class Light Escort was originally designed to be an Exploration Vessel rather than an actual warship," the raven-haired Warrant Officer explained.

"Because of this, designers made this large space for the comfort of the ship's crew and passengers. It's not only a great place for the crew to eat together, but also a comfortable spot to relax." she stated before pointing to the left. "Port of the Main Passageway is the communal baths, while starboard," she explained as she motioned right. "Is the kitchen where Freeman-Juni cooks wonder meals for everyone."

Pausing to turn around to the gathering, Masako continued to smile. "You already know about the residential areas of the ship, so let's move back through the main passageway so I can show would what is in the forward top deck section," the raven-haired Neko stated as she headed to the fore of the ship.

With the bays empty, there was no one to greet Yukari when she returned. That was probably good, she reasoned. Her mood was foul.

The two candidates who had materialized for her to interview had turned into quibbling and stuttered apologies from Personnel Command. The first was never meant to appear on her "radar," having been sent back for additional training. The caretaker was to be assigned to the Miharu, but he had shown up the night before and was turned away for not having proper credentials.

O'Donald was working on gathering his things, but Yukari wanted to get on with her day. Standing in the Multifunction Bay she sent a message to the person she needed to speak to, as she knew the person she wanted to talk to was occupied.

Yukari said:

Rin-Hei, please report to the port Multifunction Bay immediately. I require an update on the progress of Miharu's repairs. Thank you.

"Yeah..." Takuma affirmed quietly, his mind clear and relaxed from the serene scene. After a second he straightened himself up so he won't appear to be ignoring Nyton and folded his hands behind his head.

"I suppose since you went out of your way to talk to me the news isn't happy?" he said, tilting his head towards Nyton, maintaining his upbeat appearance.

Hai. I'll be right there Shosa.

Rin turned down a passageway, heading towards the requested area. As she went along, she immediately, and somewhat nervously, reviewed the condition of the ship. She half-wondered why Yukari hadn't contacted someone with a bit higher standing, such as Tom, but the sprite figured that the others were busier.

Before long, she was poking her head into the Multifunction Bay. Rin had stopped momentarily to make sure she was presentable to the Second in Command on the ship. She then stepped forward.

"Good afternoon, Shosa," Rin said, before bowing deeply.
