RP: YSS Aeon [Mission 5.0] Darkness and Ice

Araan visibly cringed under the weight the message brought to him over the inner screen of his helmet. Sighing he would shake his head, eyes closing for a brief moment while he began to release the tension in his body, now just waiting on the arrival of the others.

Reviewing the information that came through as to the end of the briefing, so Kyoka-Heisho would be their direct command element, Araan hadn't come to know much of Kyoka, but was well into the belief that if the Taisa had chosen her, she would be above adequate.

"If only I could say the same of myself." He murmured as he turned his gaze in the direction of the entryway to the Mindy Bay.

Saki bowed as Ise-taisa concluded the breefing. She then walked up to Kyoka. She was already going through ships inventory and thinking what to take, plus she though about this before too. She felt the team needed more firepower after last mission. She dreaded the though of facing another NMX heavy hitter like Render.

"Tsubei-heisho," She spoke to Kyoka, as soon as she got to her. "I would like to be fire support on this mission. For that I would like to put Barrier moduler and reactive armour on my Mindy. Plus I would to use two 50mm Gass cannon, with backap extension, LASR with slag. One LEG NSB launcher, one leg capacitator. Plus I would like to take two smoke-screen grenades and fragmentation grenades just in case. Would that be possible?" She asked with innocent look on her face.

Bridge
Katae returned to the bridge, and linked into the gunship via her spine the Aeon was flying well. She was enjoying flying the ship, something that all too often she did not get the chance to.

She started perusing the additional sensor data that was coming in on the planet. This world was not shaping up to be a fun place.

Katae disconnected when she noticed Trowa taking his station. "Yamamoto-Heisho, why are you here on the bridge instead getting ready in the Power Armor bay. You are part of Bravo team, as second ranking person on that team. This is an opportunity for you to get some ground experience."

=========
Power Armor Bay
Josea pulled started pulling out equipment from a small SSCT that was loaded when he came aboard. The sandy brown haired SSS member then started putting the equipment into one of the empty racks. It was a Ke-M6 but with all of the weapon systems removed. Once it was mounted he started checking out the primary systems and the accessories that had been mounted on it. "Looks like I am finally going to get a chance to use this." he said to no one in particular.

Yani walked over to Josea, "Good to have you back with us. I've missed our discussions in the lounge." she said patting him on the back.

"Kahen-Juni, so have I. It was rather boring aboard the Kyoten, but it did give me plenty of time to learn some new music. Perhaps sometime I can play some of it in the lounge for the crew." he replied.

Yoshiro walked into the armor bay and stopped by his armor. He armed his Power armor with an LASR, Shoulder fired missile pod, and a shoulder mount for the rifle. He also grabbed smoke grenades in case they needed to make a quick withdrawl from combat. He grabbed his helmet and then stepped in to his armor after it opened up for him and stepped inside. He grabbed his LASR and some ammo for it after the armor closed and placed it on the shoulder mount. He took a few moments to take a breath and focus his mind on the mission.

He placed his helmet on and then activated the armor systems. He ran some checks and made sure that things were working before he took a walk around the bay to get used to the armor. "I wonder when our squad leader is going to get here." Yoshiro said to himself. "I hope that he or she is a good one when we start the mission."

Having received no instructions from Tsubei-heisho, both Takamori and Makoto went to the medical center to upgrade to the new NH-31 Minkan bodies. Both had agreed that the addition of the SPINE interface was a definite plus. In addition, both wanted to get ST backups done before the mission anyway so it was best to get two birds with one stone.

------------------
Four hours later.

With their trip to the medical center complete and their new bodies still feeling a little tingly, both Takamori and Makoto then made their way to the power armor bay, reminiscing about days gone by. "You remember how Maki and Daisuke got together?" Takamori asked his friend.

The other shook his head, unable to recall it. "Oh right, you'd graduated! We were walking back from lunch our senior year, me and Dai-kun in front. Maki-chan and Saiko-chan behind. I'd made some comment about Maki's cooking which really upset her and as we were rounding the stairs, Daisuke and I traded places to avoid some juniors going the other way. But Maki didn't realize it and instead of kicking me between the legs from behind, she kicked Dai-kun! You should have heard him, I could almost feel his agony. You know, that girl... when she's mad, she really goes all out. Saiko and I carried the victim to the nurse and left the two of them there. Nurse wasn't back from lunch and we had class. So, Maki stays with Daisuke to wait for the nurse while we told Sakamoto-sensei what had happened. Afterwards, for a week, Maki kept doting on Daisuke. One thing after another, before the month was up, they were officially a couple. Still were, according to Saiko's last message to me. How are Kikumoto-senpai and Sagawa-senpai with their jobs at Ketsurui?"

Makoto found himself laughing at Takamori's anecdote about his younger friends. "You always were the troublemaker. No idea how you graduated. Kikumoto and Sagawa are doing well. Not entirely sure what they're up to since it's all very hush-hush. But they're getting money so it must be good work."

-------------------

They examined the two Mindy 2-3A armors set aside for them. "I don't see the difference. But if it means not having to undress in front of a bunch of sex-crazed Nekos like on the Hokorimasu, I'm all for it!"

It was Takamori's turn to guffaw. "Pot calling kettle!" he chuckled.

They both got into their respective armors and went to collect the equipment they wanted. It was definitely a new experience for both to control their armors with less movement and more thought. "Very surreal," Makoto commented.

Takamori knew exactly what he needed. The mission parameters were so alike the last one that he knew what was necessary.

He grabbed a duffel bag and started loading it with various explosives. This time, there was no Oshiro-juni to be an arse about equipment. If Tsubei-heisho had made any decisions, Takamori was sure he had not received anything pertaining to him.

Code:
2 x Fragmentation Grenades
2 x Incendiary Grenades
1 x Smokescreen Grenade
1 x Smoke Signal Grenade
1 x Prisoner Handling Kit
4 x 2-blocks of plastic explosives
2 x Remote Detonators
2 x Timed Detonators
2 x Uninterruptable Detonators
5 meters of detonating cord

Takamori felt satisfied that he could cover most situations with that list. Unless they ran into another Render. He ran over his checklist for his armor's loadout to confirm it with Eternity.

-----------------------------------------------

Makoto decided to clarify something beforehand. He sent a message to Eternity.
Code:
Is the new Elysian medical officer joining the Infantry Squad or am I still the only trained medic in the infantry squad? Also, what kind of topography are we likely to encounter?

That answer influenced whether Makoto would have to save room for medical equipment or not. He did, however, grab the Ke-M6-W2921 Atmospheric/Space Plasma Rifle which he had brought from his last assignment, the Hokorimasu and used on Mayer Station. He liked that specific gun though he knew the M2-W2909 Accelerated Plasma Rifle was essentially the same and came with an optional grenade launcher. The one major difference, which swayed Makoto, besides his sentimentality for having a unique weapon was that the range of the W2921 was a kilometer longer than that of the W2909. A very useful advantage.

Trowa bowed to the Taisa, “my apologies; must have missed that little detail due to the short meeting.” The pilot looked over at his station longingly and sighed. Feth, it’s going to be Genus all over again. Trowa smiled and said, in true Nepleslian fashion. “Guess you wanted to send another NCO to back up Tsubei-Heisho since all the others are just Santô Hei. Well don’t you worry Ma’am, I’m sure Tsubei-Heisho will do a fine job and I’ll make sure her orders are obeyed.” Trowa bowed again and turned to leave but stopped and added, “Oh Ma’am, one thing. Keep your eye on that number two engine. Ever since that rapid descent through atmosphere I had to pull on that last mission, well, I may have broken something. All scans say that it’s in working order but, I don’t know. I sometimes here it making noises that it shouldn’t. Anyway, just keep your eye on it.”

Trowa headed for the armory to don his Daisy armor. He equipped himself with a Ke-M2-W2909 Accelerated Plasma Rifle, a Ke-M2-W2901 Aether Beam Saber-Rifle, and an assortment of various grenades. He considered packing the Type 30 Accelerated Charged Plasma Scatter Gun he picked up from Genus, but knew that would be too much to carry. Maybe he would leave the Saber-Rifle, hand to hand wasn’t his preferred style, though he was trained in it and wasn’t half bad. He decided that he would wait and see what the Itto Heisho was planning first. Taking a look around the armory he saw Tsubei-Heisho getting ready herself. Trowa headed over and said, “Congratulations on your promotion, Tsubei-Heisho. I was wondering if you could spare a moment to discuss with you what your plan of action was?”

In response to Saki's question, Kyoka simply just said, "Give me a minute. I need to figure out the best course of action."

Upon walking into the armor bay, she was greeted by Trowa, who asked her what she planned to do. The short trip there had given her time to review the ship's stocks of weaponry and equipment. So, she sent out her requirements to the bravo team.

Code:
Considering the nature of this mission, that being protection and recon, I have decided on a more defensive set of equipment that you should use. If you go against this, I do ask that you use your utmost best judgement in selection.
Dorsal: Ke-M2-P3000 Power Armor Teleportation Unit or Ke-M2-W2704 Nodal Support Bit Launcher
Shoulder: Ke-M2-W3001 Shoulder-Mounted Aetheric Pulse Cannon
Leg: Ke-M2-G3001 Leg Capacitor
Forearm: Ke-M2-D3000 Forearm Ellipsoid Shield (use this to store extra ammunition)
Primary Arms: Choose what you feel most comfortable with.

"Now then, what were you saying?" Kyoka asked Saki, setting up her armor with the teleportation unit.

Araan found himself walking towards Kyoka- and by proxy Trowa-Heisho, his mouth held a question, but until Trowa had continued on with their previous engagement the Santô Hei held his tongue. No need to make a second big mistake in one day. However, the question he held was one of a tactical standpoint. He was unsure of the full numbers of their group, largely in part to his leaving the Briefing early, but also his relatively new placement onboard the Aeon.

As he arrived beside the pair he saluted, then corrected himself with a bow instead, and held this posture until one of the two of them would recognize him.

He sent the new gear request to the AI and reequipped his power armor and took the time to recheck his gear. He wanted to do his best and help others so he focused on that.. A tech handed him a letter and he placed it in his shield. Yoshiro didn't have time to read at the moment so he focused on the mission at hand.

"Stamoules-Hei, is assigned to the stay with the infantry group. As the likelihood of them requiring medical attention is greater than the Science team." came Eternity's reply to Makoto

Saki sighed a little. She though that Kyoka was making same mistak Arkase made. She wanted them all to take same equipment, especially since it seemed to Saki that captain wanted Kyoka to just adjuer invetory, they all picked for themselves.

"Like I just sais ma'am," Saki replied to Kyoka. "I would like to prepare my armour so it can help with heavies targets. I would like two gauss guns, ammo pack and barries shield, plus LASR with grenade launcher. I won't be as versatile as other but I can put firepower wehn it will be needed. Just let's say if another Render, or empress forbid Ravger should appear, we would have better chance." She said to Kyoka.

Makoto looked at Takamori. That certainly explained why all of them were so uniformally equipped. "Tsubei-heisho, it might be worth pointing out that the suggested loadout does not provide our armors with shielding. The Mindy does not come with its own shield projectors. It is much more difficult to defend when one has no shields and is forced to be unnecessarily overcautious," Makoto said over the radio to Kyoka.

Takamori looked at his friend with a questioning glance. "She's going to get us killed if she keeps this up. Honestly, a defensive mission set and no shields," Makoto muttered to his friend. Takamori just laughed as he walked off to speak to Saki.

The older Infantryman thanked Eternity and began to equip himself.

He also threw out the uniform and sleeping bag in his buttpack and replaced it with a Type 32 First Aid kit. If Stamoules-hei knew what she was doing, Makoto felt he would not need to take the more advanced stuff. However, some redundancy in case of sudden bouts of idiocy was necessary.

---------------

Takamori passed by Yoshiro and tapped him on the shoulder. "Did you hear Honda? Your loadout has no shields. Just saying," he said before walking off.

He nodded and added 2 Ke-M2-W2902 Forearm Weapons / Forearm Shield Projectors to his armor. He was absolutely ready now, he hoped and got ready to move out.

Bridge

Katae brought the Aeon out of fold and into CDD smoothly, keeping the gunship in stealth mode. The rest of the squadron was taking a parallel course.

"Bridge to Away Teams, we are approaching the planet in the designated star system. I will be landing the Aeon approximately 50 miles from the source of the activity the original probe detected. Atmospherics are not promising. We've detected a massive storm approaching the target site, storm has massive electromagnetic properties. This should allow the ship to land undetected.

The surface is ice, composition mostly methane. Visibility in the storm will be severely limited. More details as they become available." Katae sent to the away team.

Kyoka looked up. Then she looked over to the Mindy. Then back. Then to the Mindy. And then facepalmed.

"I KNEW I was forgetting something. . ." She sighed, redoing her mental checklist.

Code:
The following corrections have been made, after a grievous error was noticed.
Dorsal: Ke-M2-P3000 Power Armor Teleportation Unit or Ke-M2-P2904 Barrier Shield Module
Shoulder: Ke-M2-P3001 Energy Cloak Shield Projector or Ke-M2-W2905 Shoulder-Fired 50mm Gauss Cannon

The Aeon entered the planets atmosphere on the opposite side of the planet. Katae was linked to the ship via her SPINE so that she could process the data from the sensors and make the myriad adjustments to bring the gunship safely through the atmosphere. Even through the ship's inertial dampening systems the movement of the ship could be felt as a series of shudders and the occasional rolling of the floor.

However it was not long before Katae had the gunship flying low across the ground streaking to the landing site from which the Away teams would depart. Visibility and sensors accuracy started dropping fast as the Aeon flew head on into one of the major storms of the planet.

Trowa read the response Kyoka sent to the team and sighed. First it’s a squad leader who won’t listen to suggestions, now it’s one that can't make up her mind. He listened to Saki’s explanation of wanting to take heavier weapons and agreed. He had heard of the trouble the Away team had on that last mission against heavy armor. “I agree with Arai-Hei, Ma’am. Some heavy weapons would be very useful if we come up against some heavy armor. We have a couple Ke-M6-W3000 50mm Gauss Bazookas too. I believe it would be a good idea to bring one along. It is compatible with my Daisy suit so no problems there.”

Trowa turned to see Araan throw a salute, and then quickly bowed. The pilot laughed to himself. I had the same problem when I joined, he thought. Trowa nodded to the rookie and said, “Vis'Thraugh-Hei, this is the Star Army of Yamatai, not the Nepleslian Military and, sadly, we do not salute. Try to get out of that habit as quickly as possible before you go pissing off the Taisa.” Again. The Nepleslian pilot smiled and added more lightly, trying to encourage the new guy, “I had the same problem when I first joined too. I started looking at my superiors shoes whenever I saw them as a way to remind myself to bow.” Trowa glanced at the newest message Kyoka had just sent. “Did you have a question Vis'Thraugh-Hei?” Trowa asked as he moved quickly to equip his Daisy with a Ke-M6-W3000 50mm Gauss Bazooka, ammo and shield modules.

"Actually, Yamamoto-Heisho, my comment was going to be on just what was mentioned, utilizing a couple of suits as Heavy Weapons carriers, but to that extent I have got to ask, in what kind of formation will we be moving in? This is my first run with an actual forward combat unit, practice was all good and well, but fresh boots in combat don't exactly know a hole int he ground from the'r arse." He asked, stumbling over Heisho to the point it almost sounded as if mumbled, his voice somewhat gruff, regardless, as he tried to contemplate the exact methodology.

The biggest obstacle he'd seen so far, however, would have to be the mindset of the squad leader, she seemed, not forgetful, but not quite all there in the immediate command position. Trowa, however, this was a man he could understand and connect to. Nepleslian as he was, probably of the same mindset.

"As for myself, I would prefer to go in as a Heavy, as evidenced in my weapons selection thus far. Send the shielded units in first to draw attention, then as any enemy peppers their shielding or even turns to track them have two heavies providing fire. Though with this storm moving in it'll work to either advantage. The story can keep heavier units hidden while a skirmisher provides telemetry for us to combine fire." He continued, taking note of Trowa's own Bazooka module, though the contemplation of adding a shield module for safety began to cross his mind.

"Your input, sir?" Araan asked Trowa, making a few mental observations before ultimately deciding to make one final change to his combat gear.

Thinking to himself that his newest combat gear would suit him best if separated from the others, it also provided him with close and mid-range weapons, instead of just high-powered, ranged, weapons. Still another nagging feeling dug in at him. Within his first week onboard the exploratory vessel they were making movement onto an NMX planet, scientific or not, he hadn't expected immediate combat and had only hoped for some time to train in with his new squadron.

"I have an effed feeling about this mission, sir." He commented to himself as his suit was refit for the final time.

Then to himself, and to Eternity, he pinged a small request.
Eternity, query, combat status and notable tactics of the Aeon away team during the most recent missions, if applicable, I would like to know what I'm working with here. He stated matter of factly, still not used to speaking with an Artificial Intelligence on the same tone as speaking to a sentient being.

Code:
Ke-M2-P2904 Barrier Shield Module -- Dorsal
Weapon Shoulder Mount -- Right Shoulder
Ke-M2-W2905 Shoulder-Fired 50mm Gauss Cannon -- Left Shoulder
Ke-M3-W2710 Mini-Missile Launcher Pods: 7 SOOW Missiles Each -- Lower Legs
Ke-M2-W2909 Accelerated Plasma Rifle (with Ke-M2-W2909-RGL 50mm Rapid Grenade Launcher) -- Mounted in Weapon Shoulder Mount
Ke-M2-W2901 Aether Beam Saber-Rifle -- Held in Left Hand

"Did I just hear someone volunteering others to act as decoys?" Takamori asked, mischievously pointing his suit's 50mm cannon at Araan. "Stop thinking like a Nep and that superior firepower is the only way to win. You joined the army with a brain so learn to use it more. This is a Recon mission, not a Seek-and-Destroy mission. We sneak in, I plant the bomb, we sneak out, base goes boom and we're all happily aboard drinking tea and watching the fireworks. Sounds a lot better for all our healths than your suggestion."

He made a quick bow to acknowledge Trowa and Kyoka. "Heisho, just checking, save all the explosives for NMX structures or pack some for anti-armor purposes?"

---------------------

Makoto walked over to Yoshiro and wrapped his arm around Yoshiro's neck. "So Scarface-kun, Taka-bou says you've been making eyes at Arai-san? True or not true?" Makoto asked casually with a smile.

“I beg your pardon?” Trowa said has he turned to Takamori. “Stop thinking like a Nep? Ouch, that hurts.” He put his hand on his chest and staggered as if he had just been stabbed. “But who is thinking like a ‘Nep’ as you put it? ‘We sneak in, I plant the bomb, we sneak out.’ Taking all the glory for yourself! Very Nepish indeed.” Trowa laughed out loud before turning back to Araan. “Formation? Well let’s see. I’d start by flying in a V formation, the Aeon out in front firing its main weapons support ships spread out. After the first pass I’d… Oh you mean on the ground?” The Nepleslian pilot shrugged. “How should I know? I’m a pilot, not a ground pounder.” He smiled as he patted the rookie on the shoulder. “No worries, everything will fall into place. I’ll keep an eye on you and make sure your ‘blooding’ goes without a hitch.”

Trowa thought a moment. “Maybe a few explosives for anti-armor purposes; but not if that’s going to be too much to carry.”
