Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

He said her voice as if it drained him of his very soul. In a good way, perhaps, but she could still feel it.

"You will have me." Saving Tom from himself was the best distraction Yukari could ask for. "When we make our home safe, you will have me, all of our lives. Stay with me, though. In this moment, in this battle, please stay with me."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Rin breathed a sigh of relief, having given the pipe a high chance of failing rather than working in her mind. But, it was holding and with surprisingly little effect on the CFS. It was then that she noticed that her hands were shaking and... was the rest of her? She couldn't really tell. The sprite had been so focused on what she was doing that she hardly realized true extent of her fears of the potential consequences. She knew what could have happened, but she didn't have a complete understanding of how she felt about it.

A shaky inhale and a tremulous exhale came from the sprite's lips as she attempted to calm herself. Her hands clenched. She waited for whatever could happen next.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom nodded once to himself, shaking bits of haze from his mind.

"S-so you'd like me to sit next to you on the bridge? he asked. "That wouldn't go over so well."

Yukari could hear a small telepathic laugh coming from the engineer.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Idiot," Yukari said aloud.

"Idiot," she repeated in her head, with her smile sweetening her words. "Go back to your patrol before you must again cover yourself in grease and patching putty. When we are through here, you will shower before you see me. You likely smell of Daisy vagina."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Daisy vagina?" Tom asked with surprise. "I never expected you to be so lewd! Freeman-Juni out."

He disconnected with Yukari, a longing momentarily following the engineer as he came back to the 'real world.'

But then followed a much-needed second wind for the engineer. And he put it to good use. His mind considered the tactical situations laid before him, he opened a volumetric window back to the bridge, and, with thoughts of Masako and the armor teams resurfacing themselves, he contacted Nyton.

Code:
Taii,

Freeman-Juni here. I'm updating you with the remaining armory resources at your disposal. *File sent*

Among ship personnel, we have 10 sprites, led by Yuzuki-heisho, devoted to ship repairs, who are unavailable for other assignments. We have 9 out of 10 sprites available for ship defense, led by Ichigo-heisho, patrolling in Daisy armors.

With Kurohoshi-Juni's recent passing, I am concerned for the safety of the armor teams. Considering we may have a small window of opportunity to safely transport personnel to the gate, do you need any additional firepower?

I can have a team assembled, but I will need time. There are many things to consider.

Unfortunately, most of the sprites are very green. Of available ship personnel, those with the most combat experience are Rin, Ichigo-heisho, and myself.

Your instructions?

-Freeman-Juni

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton received Tom's message window and quickly tapped out a reply as quickly as he could.

Code:
Freeman-Juni,

We are going to attempt one more push with our current Armor personnel however we are running low on heavy weaponry. Expedite the fabrication of more bazookas and weapons. Continue to replenish our Armor resources, we need every suit we can spare. The PHALANX pad can nano-generate suits but we are not certain as to the limit it allows us given our location. If it comes down to using all hands available then it won't matter how green anyone is.

-Claymere-Taii

With that done he then sent a quick note to Masako.

Code:
Kurohoshi-Juni,

Welcome back to the land of the living. I commend your bravery in pursuing the enemy however be more cautious next time. You are certainly better than that. Take your team and hurry up to reconnect with Nakamura-Heisho. Hinoto-san and I are going over strategy and have concluded that you are to take both squads together and work in tandem to clear out opposition. One team will be the vanguard to cover your rear while the other attacks the enemy. Don't worry about the insertion point. If need be we will find another entrance to deliver supplies. Do not separate your forces. You need to clear through the enemy lines and destroy them as you advance. Priority will be on taking control of the Gate's three command centers. Do not waste time attempting to destroy reactors, we do not possess the demolitions necessary. Good luck.

Claymere-Taii

With that both messages were sent and Nyton looked back to Hinoto. "Very well then, once more unto the breach then."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Well, that was weird. To be given the honorific of 'sama' wasn't something Masako thought would happen, but she didn't have the time to dispute it at the moment. Now was the time for combat and personal feelings could be sorted out afterwards. "All right, mount up," Masako spoke over the team channel. "Let's get back to the gate. This time, we're going to be sticking together." she stated before connecting to Kai.

"Nakamura-heisho, report your situation." the raven-haired Warrant Officer ordered as she entered the shuttle and sat down near the entrance, just as she received a message from a certain Taii.

Nyton said:

Grimacing at the message, the Warrant Officer decided to create a quick one herself.

Code:
Understood. I was thinking the same thing. Let the hunt begin.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Amaya's Gate:

Kai and Asher weren't sure if they had actually hit the transparent silhouette of their enemy. Once they had started blasting at it, they had lost sight of it. There was little tell-tale smoke to help track its movements too: Asher's ammunition was armor-piercing so it dealt a lot of damage on a direct hit, but little else on a miss.

There was a brief glint of thier moving enemy inside the hangar, but they caught it too late to risk a shot - it was very hard to keep track of. It was likely a power armor in thermoptic stealth... and the only reason they were seeing it was because it was moving quickly.

Their AIES linked together and tried to enhance pattern recognition, but before they good get any good result there was an explosion over Asher's bazooka and the malifarian from himself smacked down to the floor as if a giant's hand had slapped him down.

Asher's bazooka was ruptured close to the base and now useless; his ammunition had spontaneously cooked off - probably due to a scalar cannon shot. Fortunately, his barrier had dropped by 25% but mostly protected him from the explosion.

The enemy was somewhere up amongst the catwalks above... they just didn't know where.

@Miharu's bridge:

"Thank you," Kotori bade the two caretakers. "Please report to Freeman-Juni for further assignments; he would be more in-the-know to where you would be needed."

The Taisa then gave a nod to Yukari as she passed by. Nyton would probably be back any minute now.

@Miharu's Sensor Dome:

"My peers do prize competition. They certainly would not put as much stock in it as they do if they did not value it." Melisson answered Nyton, though he got the impression that the answer he got was a simplified one.

Meanwhile, Hinoto had disabled the VR room's simulation and restored security settings back to normal - there was no more point in keeping that up. She tracked Kai's situation - she had been the one to interlink their AIES into a larger network to pool their resources to better attempt to track their opponent's location.

Sanri's T5 Cougar was unable to provide assistance. Sigurd was using ultrasonic pulses to try and locate the enemy. The clues she had so far pointed to the identity of the unknown enemy being either one of the two Black Mindy armors; and that would probably be either Meni or Mani from the Dominion. Seeing Hinoto doubted Meni would attack again so soon, so her bet was on Mani - the one that had slain the NH-23.

"I would like to point out-" Hinoto was privy to the messages exchanged between Tom, Nyton and Masako. "That the nine power armors we have guarding Miharu will seem like barely enough if we get invaded again my a more numerous force. If that Sakura squadron comes in - each with potentially 24 to 36 power armors - we're going to need as many here as we can, even if only preventively."

"As long as Miharu survives, even if the Black Knights fail, we still have a chance to try again."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom acknowledged Nyton's response and redirected his attention to the fabrication bays. More armors and heavy weapons?

That could be done easily enough, but the true art was in the balancing of the queue.

If he went down there, he could probably fiddle around with the production order and maximize its productivity.

Yuzuki seemed to be the real pro at supply and logistics, though, especially when it came to armors. But she was tied up with her own job right now.

That left him to take care of it. That made sense too, since his patrol was about to take him on the elevator shaft up to the main deck anyway.

Also, sandwiches were nearby. The rumbling in his stomach had just alerted the engineer to how hungry he was.

I really hope we have some potato salad left...

@Rin

Under the watchful eye of Rin, the CFS revealed no faults in operation, and the pipe she repaired seemed stable enough.

"Sister~~!" came the sudden burst of telepathy, a chirpy, bouncy voice that belonged only to Eiko. "Do you have a second?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai took the simple route in driving the foe into a more attackable position: He fired off every single last remaining mini-missile his armor had, all up at the catwalks, in order to sort of 'flash and awe' the Black Mindy. It probably wouldn't work, but he would try.

"Westwood-Hei, Gunshin-Hei, Get back up I need you alert!" the heisho called, searching visually for any sort of movement that might be the enemy armor, as well as ordering his suit and his drones to point out any and all anomalies so he could draw a bead and fire if he saw one.

Kai also recieved a request for an update during this time. He growled in annoyance, before responding "Under enemy attack. Probably a Black mindy but we can't exactly see it. Both Westwood-hei and Gunshin-hei have taken hits but no damage beyond weapons and shields." the heisho reported.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tsuya slid off the table with a thankful nod to Azuka. She entered a new, undamaged Daisy and plucked up a new bazooka along with a refill on her grenades - she was the heavy weapons user in her squad, she reasoned, and she couldn't blow things up if there was nothing with which to blow them up. That done, she made her way to the shuttle and, after looking shortly around, sat down next to Masako.

"Do you have any updates on the situation, Kurohoshi-juni?" she asked. "How are Nakamura-heisho and his team faring without us~?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou stepped back out into the open, scanning for movement as well. "Hai, Heisho." She deployed one of her tactical drones, keeping it somewhat close to her, to help the attempts to spot the enemy. "Ready to fire as needed."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai said:
"Under enemy attack. Probably a Black mindy but we can't exactly see it. Both Westwood-hei and Gunshin-hei have taken hits but no damage beyond weapons and shields."

Well that sounded just perfect. The report was also just in time for Tsuya's question. "They're still in the hanger, but under attack by a Black Mindy." she replied calmly. "Though it's unknown if this one is the same that killed me." Masako checked her LASR, almost mirroring how she did it the last time Tsuya had seen her.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Sutreishimasu." Shizuka said while giving Kotori a deep bow. Akiko followed suit and they both departed the bridge. Once off the bridge Akiko reached out and hugged Shizuka. Tears began rolling out of her eyes as she rubbed her head into her older sister's chest.

"Onee-chaaaaaaaaaan! You left me aloooooooone!" sobbed the younger sister. "I was so scared! I-I thought something happened to you. I just didn't know what to do!"

Shizuka just held Akiko and allowed her to cry it out. "I know Akiko-chan. You need to be a big girl sometimes though. Your sister can't always be there to protect you." she replied, trying not to remember their ordeal on Bowhordia.

Akiko sniffled a little before wiping her face. "All right. I will try onee-chan."

"You have to. Right now we are in a battle and Kurohoshi-san is fighting for us. So we have to do what we can for her and the others as well." Shizuka reminded Akiko. She then sent a message to Tom.

Code:
Freeman-Juni,

We have completed our task on the bridge sir. Do you have any further orders?

Shimabumi-Hei

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps you could enlighten your servant, Mistress. After all if I am to be more effective I will need your guidance in doing so. Perhaps you could even share some advice to me regarding this operation. After all you have displayed a much grander skill at strategy that I would be most envious to possess and employ. Nyton thought, truthfully even regardless of his compulsion to serve. Even under normal circumstances his words bore some truth. Nyton was one who would try to learn and draw knowledge from whatever source he could regardless of the origin.

"Alright then we have our operational guidance then. Hinoto, continue providing support to the Armor teams as you have. Let me know if you need my assistance. I should be returning to the bridge otherwise the Taisa will be wondering what is keeping me." Nyton said before closing up his own volumetric windows.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Rin jumped at the sudden 'voice.' Hearing someone else was the very last thing she expected, not to mention she was still jittery.

"Hai? I think I do. What do you need?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Fuck! There goes my fun-gun." Asher cursed as he brought himself up, slapping off what remains of his bazooka were on him. Even though it bothered it some, he dismissed the loss of his weapon and got back into the fight, as ordered. His eyes scanned the tops at the Cat-Walks, as he began to ease into cover.

Oooh, someone likes to play hide'n'go seek. Asher thought, and with that thought came an idea. The enemy was using the cat-walks to stay out of their vision, so he did what any lateral thinking soldier would do.

He let loose a salvo of his missiles, one large enough to bring down the cat-walks.

I like t'play, too. Thought the man as he deployed his drones to catch any signature of the enemy, and slipped back into cover.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Miharu's Sensor Dome:

"A few words will not convey lifetimes of experience and outlook, my human," Melisson answered Nyton with coiling sweetness. "But you and I will have the rest of your life to explore that. You just have to make sure that time won't be short."

Hinoto afford Nyton a nod. "Yes, Taii." Then she turned her attention back to her displays.

Nyton found himself reluctant to leave. The bridge was where his job was, but it was not the place where the person he wanted to devote himself to was.

Hinoto, so pale and fragile-looking, stood alone in front of the central station, surrounded by a semi-circle of status windows, computing data and fine-combing the sensor feeds that came her way to help those at the Gate. But by being in the sensor dome, she was at a relatively exposed point of the ship, on top of the hull and near the nose. If Miharu was attacked, a hull breach might kill her.

There was likely still fighting to come. He might not see her like that ever again. Did Tom always feel like this about Yukari when Miharu got into a fight?

* * *

@Hoshi's Multifunction Bay:

The Fox shuttle's hatch closed and Mara started the engines.

"Thank you for choosing Mara Spacelines." The sprite quipped as she had the small craft spin around and head out. "Please fasten your seat belts and brace for acceleration - we are going in hot."

G-forces hit the passengers as the Fox made a sharp turn and flared its thrusters to sped its way to the Gate.

* * *

@Amaya's Gate:

Missiles wreathed the catwalks over their heads, supports were sundered and parts of the suspended metal gridding fell down to clatter to the deck.

Briefly, the glimpsed the shiny reflections on a power armor with a swept back cape and then FWOOP! She was gone, teleported.

"Heisho!" Sanri, the Cougar's shuttle pilot, screamed. "She's in the passenger compartment. I'm opening the-Iiiiie!"

There was a loud thump inside the shuttle's canopy as a nekovalkyrja's body - Sanri's - hit against the forward viewport. Blood splashed all about the window and then the body slumped down like a puppet with its strings cut. The bloodstains prevented from having a clear view of the aggressor in the pilot's compartment.

A mechanical whine was heard as the Cougar's rear hatch pivoted open. If they wanted a shot at the enemy, they'd have to move around to get to the back of the shuttle and box her in.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Teleport!" Kai announced, as the enemy did so, then he watched in muted horror as Sanri was violently murdered against the cockpit of her shuttle. As the back end began to open, Kai knew they could attempt to box in their enemy, it was a gamble, as cornered foes tended to fight harder. But the yamataian's team had a bit of an advantage. The shuttle was a powder keg.

"Get to the other side of the Cougar, ASAP. If the enemy seems like they are going to escape, set off the munitions inside!" Kai ordered his team, activating his heavy fusion thrusters and boosting towards the back of the shuttle at a low angle, flying with his front towards the craft, covered by his shield. the Plasma rifle pointed towards the opening and barked with blue fury as the opening came into the Heisho's sights.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom arrived in the kitchen, delighted to see some food remaining. There wasn't any potato salad, which made the engineer groan, but at least there were some sandwiches.

He took off his helmet and happily grabbed two of the sandwiches: a tuna one and a diced chicken one.

Mmmmmm.

Chew. Chew.

Shimabumi-Hei

With his mouth full of food, Tom used his armor's communicator to send a reply message.

Code:
Shimabumi-Hei,

Come down to the kitchen. Are you capable of assembling power armor together?

-Freeman-Juni

@Rin

"Eh, heh," Rin heard the embarrassed chuckle coming from Eiko. "I'm stuck in a crawlspace. I'm sorry, but I need someone to pull me out and I just noticed that you finished one of your jobs so you had a chance to free me. Could you help a poor sister out? Please~~~?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"We sure do all have a bad habit of getting killed out here!" Asher grumbled watching Sanri's body splatter up against the windows of the shuttle. The Yamataian shook his head and sprinted over to the back of the shuttle. He sent his drones ahead to gather a gander what was in the opened area of the shuttle. With that he brought his Plasma Rifle to bear, and rounded the corner of the shuttle's side, leaned it's opening and fired some shots into the cockpit area.
