Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton released Hinoto and let his hands fall to his sides. "What happened in the Sensor Dome... was..." he started and then hesitated.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Was...?" Hinoto echoed in an attempt to coax the rest of what the Nepleslian man wanted to say out.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton looked at Hinoto and sifted through the memories of the time in the Sensor Dome. It was strange to see how memories created by himself in a different mindset were so foreign and yet familiar at the same time.

"What happened in the Sensor Dome would be easier to dismiss if I had merely been Melisson's puppet in every way. But the truth is I was not and some of the things said are not things I can simply look away from without some consideration." he admitted.

"After this mission is over and we have beaten Melisson I will need to have some words with you."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"It'd better not be another confession." Hinoto's face broke into a smile. Seeing how steely she had been before, the smile felt similarly to sunlight breaking through a pall of stormy clouds.

"You know, you almost crushed the hot yaoi fantasies I had about you!" the sprite added in mock protest. "I can't rightly imagine you in the arms of another sweaty, manly Nepleslian if you start fancying me... so kindly do not do so again and spare me my maidenly dreams."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Maybe if you imagine you are that manly Nepleslian it wouldn't be so crushing." Nyton replied, his own mood slightly improved. Her smile was actually helping to shake off the malaise he'd had since reviving.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Ah, but then, the Taisa's wrath would be crushing," Hinoto returned lightly before giving Nyton a respectful nod. "On that note, Taii, I will leave you to get dressed."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Well, probably you, Asher, since you're so eager." Kyou smiled in her helmet. "Plus, you're big enough to make a decent shield for the rest of us."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Yes, this is awkward enough already. I will see you later then." Nyton replied. With a nod of his own he then turned to the bed and began getting dressed. He was efficient as always and suddenly feeling elated. The improvement of his mood allowed him to think a little clearly without getting clouded over defeatism.

Very well then Melisson, if it's a fight you want I will give you a fight. You're the one that asked for it and when I'm done with you everyone you have ever infected within your hive mind will feel your pain. he thought.

No longer having 360 vision anymore Nyton was forced to rely on using reflective surfaces and other means to see around him again. But he managed to catch a quick glance of Hinoto as she left and then he grinned even more. And after I'm done with Melisson I'll have to see what to do with you, my dear killer of me.

The precipice Nyton had stood upon for so long suddenly felt a little more slippery. For now though he simply finished getting dressed and moved quickly to report to the bridge. As soon as he arrived he crisply bowed to those present. "Forgive me for being so late. A lot has happened." he declared.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Plus, you're big enough to make a decent shield for the rest of us."

Asher stopped in his tracks for a moment and looked back at Kyou. In that moment, he was a tad speechless, likely because he wasn't sure if Kyou was serious or not. He shook his head and started walking towards the door again.

"Alright, I'm juss' gonna' 'sume you mean m'head, or my otha' head." said the Yamataian with a chuckle, taking point ahead of his squad, back into a ready stance. "One way, I'll take it as a joke, otha' way, I'll take it as a compliment."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yukari had heard enough anyway.

She had already told Tom that Hinoto was returning to her duties, that everything was (mostly) fine, and that he should not worry. Telling him more without the permission of the Taisa was not possible.

The Shosa got up from her seat and faced Nyton, having already eaten a nutrition bar. She bowed slightly to him. "Taii-san."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Suzuka-Shosa, I have a couple items to report however almost all of it consists of bad news." Nyton declared as he stepped onto the bridge.

"Hinoto's slaying of me has removed Melisson's influence from me. That is the only bright spot if it can be called that. Unfortunately her timing of this according to Hinoto's analysis means that Melisson is approaching us with the intent of fighting whoever wins the battle." he flatly stated.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Being comparatively out of the loop had its problems for Miyoko... such as her not realizing that Nyton had been killed until the man calmly reported his own death. She wasn't about to interrupt his status report, but it was a bit hard to miss the very curious look she shot his way as she inspected the man for any clues as to what the hell was going on.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Take it as you wish, I think the audience will draw their own conclusions." Kyou smiled inside her helmet. "Of course I was joking, idiot. Even if I didn't like you, I don't wish death on anyone."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton said:
"Hinoto's slaying of me has removed Melisson's influence from me. That is the only bright spot if it can be called that. Unfortunately her timing of this according to Hinoto's analysis means that Melisson is approaching us with the intent of fighting whoever wins the battle." he flatly stated.
As if they did not have enough to handle.

"I see," she said in Yamataian. It was difficult, but necessary, to not see Nyton as a traitor or an enemy. Hinoto had, in her own devious way, been very careful about how everything had transpired. She had to trust the seed was indeed gone.

"Then we must be careful not to die fighting Eve, when we reach her. The wound to your pride will be best healed with chilled and calculated revenge." Yukari approached him, gave him a once over with his eyes, then nodded. "You appear ready for duty, Taii. Are you?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"As ready as possible given the situation. Can't get anymore ready now so I'm just going to have to go at it without my cybernetics." Nyton replied, flexing his natural left arm before cracking the fingers.

"And you are correct. The desire to kill my enemies is excruciatingly high right now." he replied coldly with just as cold a smile.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Good." The Shosa stepped aside from the Taii and bowed to Kotori.

"Taisa, Claymere-Taii is ready to return to duty," she said. "The recordings of Hinoto's emotional stress test are available if you require them. It appears Melisson has assisted our progress and manipulated our situation to eliminate Eve and then obtain control of the lost fleet. Claymere-Taii, however, is free from the creature's influence.

"We are on our own, Taisa."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Aw, that wass' sweet a'ya Kyou. I'll be sure t'think 'bout that when I copy Kuro-Juni's rollin' head technique." Asher muffled a chuckled as he looked back at the rest of the unit at the door, wondering if they were following behind him.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As Yukari stepped aside and allowed Nyton a clear view of Kotori to him he could not help but feel hit by a certain agitation. Looking at the Taisa he was struck by a sense of failure. She had been the purpose that drove him and pushed him to excel. All he had wanted was for her to succeed and together to bring about a change to the Yamatai Empire for the better. All this time though he had been a mole for the SMX and for years had given the enemy a direct link into their ship's workings instead. It was something that needed sorting out but for now he could only keep it contained.

If not for his trained discipline and endurance, the feeling that he had failed his princess Kotori whom he had dedicated himself to serve, would make him hang his head down in shame. He bowed low as he solemnly addressed her with, "Your highness."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kotori's glance encompassed her executive officer and tactical officer. She kept her composure, but the low points of her black-furred ears spoke volumes about her uneasiness.

"Very well, Shosa. Thank you," she told Yukari before she turned to Nyton and added: "Welcome back, Taii. You may return to your station." In the end, her words seemed faint, barely above a whisper.

@black Knights:

The five-person power armor team retraced the steps Masako had done counter-clockwise into the ring-shaped complexed and through the access corridor set foot into the engine room. Scorched nekomachina pieces littered the floor, and the blast shutter was open.

Beyond the opened blast shutter, a long corridor opened up - initially stained by the blast of a grenade. The corpse of the Eve youngling Suzuran was still on the floor, her body broken and her head crushed. Not far way, the scorched remained of yamadura-alloyed armor indicated where Masako's previous Daisy armor had fallen, and then self-destructed.

It didn't look like the doomed Daisy's self-destruction had done any enemy in - the M6's self-destruction sequence was one made to avoid KFY hardware to fall into the hands of the enemy, rather than to sacrifice the unit in a last ditch attempt to inflict damage to the enemy.

Ahead was a long corridor, plated in metal, with pressured conduits being mated to the walls. It went ahead for roughly a 100 meters until it came to a wall with a ladder going up through what was possibly a vertical passageway.

...and close to that ladder were two nodal drones, hovering close to the ceiling. As soon as the Black Knights took notice of them, they slinked around the corner and up into the vertical passageway. They were replaced by two pale figures that dropped down the shaft.

They were slender like nekovalkyrja, with white armor plates integrated into their bodies in a strange mix of endoskeleton, synthetic flesh and exoskeletal plating. The faces were expressionless masks from what they could see of their mouths - the upper-side of their heads were covered by an armored visor. Long platinum blue hair fell down to their waists, and their manes lightly stirred from some non-existent wind.

The Daisy AIES computers identified them as NH-28 Nodal Integrated Weapon Systems, and what stirred their pale hair was not wind, but rather clouds of nodal nanomachines in such high density that the air around them sparkled.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton looked at Kotori's eyes, studying her ears which had always given him signals before, and bowed his head again. "Very well your highness. Again I apologize for my delay in returning to duty." he said before turning to return to the tactical station.

Sitting down he found the box with his cybernetic eye still sitting by the console along with the cable for his data port. Both items were no longer of any use to him now. He removed the cable and put it inside the box with his eye. Another reminder to him of his recent death. Blood boiled again as he seethed and felt the urge to extract some much needed revenge.
