Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

When all that was left in the subdeck was the he and the sound of machinery, Tom closed his eyes.

The grinding of gears, the humming of energy; these sounds entered his world. To the untrained ear, the incessant noise of Miharu's inner workings was a constant, deafening pressure on the senses, waves of sound that washed over the body in never-ceasing currents.

But Tom opened his ears and listened. He listened as a proud father would to his child during a piano recital.

She sounded beautiful.

Miharu spoke to him through her music. All was well. All was in a state of perfect readiness, of careful balance. Every instrument in her repetoir was finely tuned and ready for the grand finale.

And she would pass; her melody would sustain them through the fires and the brimstone. She had done it before, and would do so again. That was the beauty of the song. The low rhythms. The high kreen of the fold stabalizers. The absolute roar of the generators, like dragons crying to be fed, howling, biting at the bit in angry defiance. The Miharu knew. That was the only explanation.

Tom's head bobbed gently back and forth, and he reached out in the darkness, placing his palm on the metal framing of the main aether generator. She warmed at his touch, purring contendly into his hand. There was a delicate grace behind her fury, a maternal love that looked over and nurtured them, her children.

She was their protector.

But she could not do it alone. Miharu's music also revealed her concerns. The capacitors, their buzzing deep and low, warned of unforseen challenges, of danger and the testing of limits. It was a sobering break in the symphony, one that pulled his eyes opened and brought him back to the world.

"Miharu," he said as he rested his head on the generator. "I need you now more than ever. Please give us your strength one last time. Give us the strength to end this."

He turned away and walked to his console, awaiting the arrival of the engineering crew.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher's attention was taken from Mara and pulled toward Tsuya. She wasn't exactly his type, with the gray skin, but she had a body which forced him to regret that it was off-limits. Her point, however, was one that threw him off.

"You tempt fate! Do not screw the future! Please! I have things to look forward to!"

"Pssh," Asher waved his hand as if to push her worry away, "Why stay focused on tha' future? Them Nekos out there are in tha' 'now'. If you focus too much on ya' future, then you won't live long'nuff t'experience it!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kotori crossed her arms, considering Nyton's request, and then shook her head no. "The bridge is not the place to clutter with rubber duckies, Nyton. No. Besides, you'll understand later why I brought these here."

With this said, Kotori looked over at her console and said: "I slaved control of the Uriko drones to my console and applied proper encryption as a precaution against the enemy trying to take control of them. Once we are in position, all that will be needed is a tightbeam tachyon signal toward their hiding places to have them shed CFS stealth and close in on our positions. From there, I'll assign them instructions and targets."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"I am capable of looking forward to things in the future while focusing on events that are happening now," the armor pilot said indignantly, crossing her arms over her chest. She didn't seem to notice Asher's eyes on her, luckily. "I fully intend to perform the very best I can during the battle!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"I meant my custom GP-12. Oh well then, my usual armament will have to do." Nyton said, hiding disappointment and at the same time still curious what the purpose of a bloody yukata could have. Some sort of misdirection operation via transmission? he guessed to himself.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Now, now, let's not bicker over the outlook that different people have on life," Mara said, raising both hands placatingly to both Tsuya and Asher.

At that moment, Nimura silently made her entry in the port armor bay and made her way straight to one of the Daisy armors, giving it a last checkup before the mission.

Perhaps it was just their imagination, but the room suddenly felt a lot chillier.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As oblivious as ever, Tsuya bowed deeply to Nimura as she entered. "Good afternoon, Nimura-hei! I hope you are prepared for the mission!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Naw, this'll keep things interestin'!" said Asher, holding up a finger to signify his point.

"Yeah? Is that true?" Asher seemed to gain interest in the conversation. Especially since Tsuya seemed to defend her point. Despite not being totally sure of the relationship between the two Neko's, Asher decided to make a shot in the dark. "Alright, tell me this, you think you can focus on killin' somethin' when you got Kuro-Juni's ass pictured in y'head?

Asher looked over at Nimura, who had just walked in. The Hei was never too sure about Nimura, but he seemed to like vibe she put off. He grinned, and pointed over at her.

"Lookit her! She looks pretty focused in tha' now."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nimura turned a look to the both of them, her face an expressionless mask. It was almost scary.

"You should both be doing final check-ups on your power armors instead of chatting," she said, her voice the model of monotone and apathy.

Nimura then returned to studying the power armor.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Nimura-hei, I am waiting f - "

Asher's words made her eyes go wide as she flushed in embarrassment, and her sentence ended in a sort of indignant, high-pitched squawk as she buried her face in her hands.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

It was then that Tsuya heard Nimura nonchalantly say: "If the enemy starts shooting at you, will you hide your face as well?"

"Powerful psionics are amongst the enemies you will face today. If your ego is so weak that you cannot assert what you are, who you are, and for what you are... they will kill you... and might even kill in the process those rendering themselves vulnerable in an attempt to save you."

"The human Asher is, in many ways, your inferior in all but maturity and experience. You are of similar rank. You do not have to retreat from his thoughts when he raises them aloud. Or is your opinion this weak? Is your determination this frail?"

Mara blinked. "Wow. Nimura rarely talks this much."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher broke out into laughter as Tsuya hid her face from the others, slapping his knee. He looked over at Nimura, and could help but chuckle despite her deathly eyes.

"She's got a point!" Asher's sniggered, and saved himself from her previous remark. "But at least I have a reason f'not checking up on an armor, since I don't necessarily have one 'signed to me."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Mara pointed the fifth Daisy in the row of power armors. "Actually, Asher, it's this one."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Really? Ha ha!" Asher skipped away from the conversation to finally assess his armor. He looked it up and down. "You n'me are gunna have a good time." The Yamataian grinned, beginning to look it up and down, making a mental check-list of how passable it was for combat. He looked back at Mara, revealing an almost boyish face, enveloped in excitement.

"Can I hop in now? Or do I hav'ta wait?" The Yamataian gleefully asked, before turning his attention back to his Daisy.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Mara idly tugged at her uniform's collar. "I'd wait for the others to file in. I think Hinoto's due to come too, to give us equipment recommendations regarding who we'll end up fighting."

Mara set both hands to the sides of her hips, akimbo. "Hinoto is actually becoming very good at being a mission control specialist. She's the one whom will support us while we make our entry in the Gate."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As Sanjuro and Miyoko arrived in front of the Medical Bay, so too did Masako as she jogged up on the pair. Spotting Sanjuro, the small Warrant Officer would probably put on an impassive expression, but Miyoko's presence warranted a smile and a wave.

"How long is the line for Soul Transfers?" she asked the duo curiously. "Any more armor personnel among those left?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tsuya glowered at Asher and Nimura. "I will have the both of you know that I am a professional. My actions outside of combat have little to no bearing on how I will act when the bullets are flying. I would very much appreciate it if you were not to insult my prowess in battle."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Sanjuro's grimaced slightly as his gaze narrowed on Miyoko when she passed him. He caught the reference, quite well in fact, and he certainly didn't feel the need to be reminded by this person among all things. Of course he was aware of his minor sleep issues, but he never allowed them to interfere with his work when it really mattered. To have Miyoko insinuate otherwise was an insult that he graciously swallowed, at least for the time being, in favor of completing his assigned task.

As Masako strode forward, the medical officer wordlessly directed her towards the end of the dwindling line. Sanjuro then allowed the first of the awaiting crew members outside the door to enter, leading them towards the reclining seat of the Soul Transfer machine.

"You will wait, Saito-Hei," Sanjuro stated boldly, motioning once more towards the ST's control panel, "until all others have been treated. That is standard medical protocol...but I suppose it simply slipped your mind? Hopefully your ability to read the transfer data monitor hasn't also left you."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Mara skipped over to Tsuya and patted her comfortingly on the shoulder. "Now, now... let's not fuss over this. Nimura kind of has a point about the psionic bad guys, but your power armor is equipped with a psionic signal controller to protect you from that. We'll do just fine."

"Right?" Mara turned to Nimura for suppot, but the other sprite was pointedly ignoring her in favor of paying attention to the Daisy armor she planned to use.

Awkward silence.

"Right?" Mara sent Asher a pleading look to just go along.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher was still going over his mental check-list while Mara tried to reassure Tsuya.

Fred said:
"Right?" Mara sent Asher a pleading look to just go along.

"Huh?" Asher turned around for a moment to face them, and then slowly began to regain a grasp on the conversation again. "Oh!" His outburst signaling the grasp. "Yeah, yeah, I was just fuckin' 'round, y'know? Just playin'!" He turned back to his armor.

"'Sides, I ain't seen you fight yet, so I wouldn't know."
