RP: 21st Fighter Sq [Mission 6.0] Mists and Mysteries

Errowyn recovered from her laughing at Ricky, and returned his smile back to him as the meeting began with a stern reprimand from Atsui. Then the mission brief gotten under way.

She listened to the others ask their questions. At the mention of power armor, she winced.

~~I'm a Pilot! Not Infantry!~~ mentaly wailed, with a slight look of anguish on her face. Ears wilting. ~~I cant hit the broadside of a barn even if I was inside the dang building. Hadn't the Taii read my infantry score?~~ Speaking up abit shyly, "miaow? Can I just provide air coverage?"

Anne walked by the gurney whole way, thinking about Silic and other things. Her journed to find a freedom for example. It was hard, but conversation with Silic helped and gave her new point of view on her problem. She tried to do the same with him and now she wondered if it helped.

"Greetings," Anne said to the nurse. "It's Silic, we need to get him on his legs again for a mission. He got beaten, don't ask about details. He is not hurt badly, judging from initial scans and we need to wake him up. I think stimulants should work fine. I would like to examine him first before we inject him with anything so let's just wake him up for now." She explained, while gurney was moved to examination table.

"Your his Flight Surgeon, we will leave his treatment in your hands. If you need anything just let us know." the med tech said and went over to a waiting soldier.

Atsui looked at Errowyn, "This is the 2XF, everyone has been told that from time to time we will be called upon to do other duties. This is one such occasion. Request denied."

-------------------

Konpeki looked at Errowyn, "Flying above to provide air coverage would jeopardize the mission. For the past week the 2XF has been having squadrons making bombing runs and precision flying through the mountain training.

The reason for the training is two fold, its necessary for an upcoming mission that the Taisho is planning. And the enemy will just see the 21st as another training mission. Once in the mountains they will not be able to track you, so they will not see the fact that you do not climb back up to the carrier."

Kenshin nodded softly to himself as he listened to Numa and Konpeki elaborate further in response to questions asked, also making a mental note to look up the design schematics and internal layouts of the old Vampire and Henkei patrol variant starships. Hopefully the Tachibana hadn't been able to hide any other surprised in the area that slipped past the notice of the recon drones.

Assuming the squadron could get past the enemies perimeter and inside the ships successfully whilst avoiding detection, sabotaging the ships or placing explosives in the right areas probably wouldn't prove all that difficult unless the ships were significantly modified from the standard stock configurations, which was unlikely.

Taking the base on the other hand would prove more troublesome with only information about the surface-level layout. They'd have to discover the rest of the Tachibana installations layout when they went in.

Yaeko was busy to work on her datapad, going through some specifics for how she wanted the mission to go. After the incident with Hoshi last time, she had no intention of any of her squadron members dying. She was starting to like how her plan was going. Looking up to participate in the discussion again, she reasked her previous question,

"So are they able to jam the signal on the remote detonators? And now that we're on communications, what are the odds that they will be able to intercept our comms?"

"Thank you," Anne replied to medicine tech and walked over to medicine cabinet. She picked right stimulant to wake Silic up and put it in hypospray. Bunny-eared girl then returned to Silic and injected him.

After a few seconds Silic responded, sitting bolt upright suddenly. Slowly his head turned towards Anne, he blinked, and then promptly fainted again with a small sigh. His head hitting the gurney with a loud bump.

Anne looked at Silic and was confused once again. He just sat up and once he noticed her, he fell uncoscious again. What could she do? Was any of her behaviour wrong? Was she not good enough? Trying ot be free person was so confusing and hard.

Anne looked at nurse with more confusion in her face. She then checked Silic's health monitor to make sure more drugs would not hurt him and she then woke him up again, putting in a little more so he would stay awake.

"How do you feel?" She asked as soon as he opened his eyes.

This time it was only Silic's eyelids that went straight up, opening with perfect clarity almost immediately. "I feel like I've been in a car crash." he replied. His natural hand reached to rub the back of his head as he sat up more slowly this time.

"What the hell happened?" he grunted as his other hand felt his ribs "Nothing quite seems to make sense." he winced as he felt the rest of his head. "An icepack would be nice, though."

Anne looked at medical monitor checking Silic over. Her hand computer was not as effective as this one. WIth Silic awake now, she could do complete scan and look for anything out of order.

"You were tossed across the room Silic, no wonder you feel bad. Not to mention that neko who hit you. Ussualy you are a charmer as I remember, not having your day?" Anne asked him as she worked. She took a pause to get a cooling bag and give it to him. "Press it to your face." She told him then.

Ricky shook his head for a moment, thinking to himself, "That makes no sense. Just because they can't track us amongst the mountains doesn't mean they can't track us around them. Just because they see us go in doesn't mean they're going to assume we went back up. They know as well as we do that in order to get back to that carrier, we would have to go up, out of the mountains, and out of our zone of radar protection."

Ricky spoke up, "If I may, I think some extra equipment would be good for the sake of safety. I'd think that we might want to have at least a few decoy launchers." He shrugged, "That way they'll at least see some V8-series fighters going back to the carrier. Otherwise they might think we either crashed, or that something's going on when we don't come back out of the mountains, and either way will draw the enemy's attention to us."

He shrugged again, "Otherwise, it just feels like we're assuming our enemies are going to be totally incompetent and unable to function for our plan to work."

"He... He has a good idea..." Lynn chipped in, wanting to seem like she had more control of herself now.

Sending decoys back up to fool the enemy would work better than just disappearing.

Elisto rubbed his chin, it was a good idea, but he pondered just how effective it would be against a clan that actually worked with SAINT. "I don't think that'll work, the Tachibana's had people in SAINT working for them, which means that a decoy launcher may in fact not work against them. Probably, the best solution, is to have a second squadron go ahead of and serve as our actual decoys when we leave."

He pulled up the information on the decoy launcher itself, looking through it. He knew how it worked, how it functioned, there were ways to beat a decoy and ways to recognize the slight differences in the emmissions it gave off. That's why he felt that it wouldn't be effective, it might buy some time, but then he had to wonder - did the Tachibana's have a plant on the Heitan itself that would be monitoring squadron movements? So many different possibilities, a plant on the Heitan or even at the base they were headed to, either one was possible and could potentially blow their cover.

“My face?” Silic asked as he looked for a mirror, “What's wrong with my fa-Oh by Davis's beard! What the hell happened to my nose?” he exclaimed as he caught his image in a small dental reflector. His face hadn't fared the well against that wall.

“Well, I don't think it's broken.” he summarised as fiddled with his nose and skin, all of which was beginning to bruise. He began to preened slightly as he checked that everything else was in order before he applied the ice pack to the side of his face that seemed the most messed up and turned to Anne. “How did I get all of this in a restaurant?”

"Waitress probably messed up you order," Anne joked as she looked at the pained nepleslian. She moved from the monitor to him. Medical scanner was sifting through the data so she might as well do some of the check up herself. Not to mention that machine could mess up, but she could be sure of what her hands felt.

"You should be fine, but let me have a look at you. Take off your shirt." She said looking into his eyes. He had his goggles on again. She just wished he would ditch them.

Konpeki looked at Ricky, "Actually it is because we do know our enemy and that they are not incompetent that your proposal is unnecessary.

However, because they do not want to give away their location, they can not perform an active scan. They would need such a scan to track us once we are beyond the horizon, and we would detect that. So their only recourse is to stay dark.

However, if the Taii wishes to have all the craft equipped Ke-V8-W3201 I will make that happen."

Medical Center

Silic swung his legs off the table and unzipped the top part of his uniform as he stood up, the coolbag left behind on the table while he tied the sleeves of his working uniform around his waist and took his undershirt off.

“Guh! Feels like I've slept a week on the tiles.” he groaned as he massaged the small of his back. “Damn, Jeb's Bar and Grill was the only place nearby where I don't get kicked up because of weird stuff. How did I end up in the hospital this time?” It seemed he was still a little confused.

“No wait...” he corrected, his mind clearly working behind the scenes, after a few seconds he shook his head “Oh, that's right. I was an idiot and went and joined the army, and I'm probably about to get fired if SAINT doesn't get me killed first.” he sighed, and looked around nonchalantly like this was a normal state of affairs.

It was only when he turned back to Anne that he seemed to remember her for the first time. “Uh, uh-uh...” his mouth worked impotently before he finally came out with a half-decent “Hi.”

"So we're assuming the enemy will make an assumption." Ricky muttered to himself, "I see."

That was the end of that matter.

He felt that one could never be too cautious. How could they know the enemy would just assume that they had flown out over the horizon after the training run? It just seemed like the unit was asking to get ambushed, at least to Ricky it seemed so. Yet that didn't matter. He was the base of the totem pole, in Yamatai: where every man is free to be as downtrodden and stepped on as any other man next to him. Feeling his thoughts would be ignored regardless of what he did, Ricky remained silent.

Oh well. It was just all the more reason for him to jump ship and become a merc once his tour of duty was over. Assuming he didn't get shot down due to what he felt was flagrant assumptions by his superiors. Instead of voicing any of these thoughts, or dwelling on them any further, he tapped idely on the cigarette pack he kept in his pocket, and waited for the briefing to get over so he could get in the air.

Anne looked Silic's in the eye. She wondered what was goign through his mind, seeing as he froze when he saw her. Why did it make him so nervous? Does he really regret that they had sex?

"Is there a problem?" She asked and her face gained more serious expression. She still worked though, trying to feel his arms for any kind of damage.

Flag Bridge

Atsui listened to the end of the briefing. She then stood up, "While Eika-Juni is probably correct. I am going to error on the side of caution and we will cover our asses.

We will equip each of the Kawarime with a decoy on the starboard mount out of sight. The training ordinance will be on the port side.

We are enroute to SX-06. Which will hopefully give Tin Man time to recover. Munkata-Kohosei you have until then to make up your assignments of wingmen. Once we enter the Hills Sphere we will drop to STL, that will be when you can hold your meeting in the squadron's room. Dismissed. I will be on the bridge."

Konpeki disabled the security measures, and watched as Atsui walked out of the room.

Entering Aqueous Space

After traveling uneventfully to the SX-06 system, the Heitan and her escorts made for the planet. Once they approached the limit of FTL they dropped out to STL and cruised inward.

"Attention All Fighting Diamonds. Report to the squadron briefing room." Hiromi chimed over the intercoms.
