Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Before the new crew mates arrived, Takuma was able to memorize the three Fort Ready recruit's names. Those were the only names he could remember, and it was a new record just to remember that many. He tried to remember them because he recently talked to Kiyoshi and he told them about the three new crew members. He knew that they probably would not believe him, but it was worth trying.

"KAI!" Takuma exclaimed. "You don't recognize the face of your own classmate?!? Come on, its only been six months." Sighing, the fake Kiyoshi turned to one of the other Fort Ready graduates and gave a wave. "Hey Yuril, how have you been?" He also used this gesture for the reason to get away from Nyton and Masako. They look like they're having fun, I won't bother them.

Takuma didn't even shed a hint of acting. He looked like the real thing. Takuma got up and took a seat next to Yuril. "It's been a while since Fort Ready, how have you been? I didn't think I'd get transfered on the same ship as you three, but I guess they like to keep teammates together."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Kai wasn't fooled, he had seen the Nito Heisho pin on Takuma's chest, but he wanted to see what Yuril's reaction was going to be like. He sat, looking a little dumbfounded, half on purpose, half at this brazen act of oddness on their new cremember's part.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Kotori coughed in her fist to draw the attention of the assembled. "I hate to break the chatter off, but I will now begin the briefing session." She nodded to Yukari, whom dimmed the room's lighting to put more emphasis on the holographic display.

"I am sure by now that many of you have gotten acquainted with our starcharts and seen how the Mishhuvurthyar have been advancing," The Taisa began. "If you expect me to go on a big situational report of how dire things are right now, well, you are wrong. I much prefer focusing on the solution instead of the problem, so, we shall focus on winning."

Kotori paused, holding the attention of her audience for a moment and then elaborating: "Miharu is on a mission appointed to us by Taisho Yui to save the Empire. Nothing more complicated than that - the Taisho left it to me to decide our course of action. My decision was to go after an organization called the Black Spiral, a splinter group of SAINT whom turned traitor to us and fed the Mishhuvurthyar with superior information as to our communications and troop movements, thus explaining how they've been able to win against us so easily and overwhelmingly in the end of YE 28 and until the middle of YE 29. The Black Spiral not only held stealth ops specialists in some of the best ships Ketsurui Fleet Yards had to offer, but also had amongst their numbers NH-25 hybrid Mishhuvurthyar-Nekovalkyrja and some of the Mishhuvurthyar themselves... all lead by the notorious criminal Eve, someone whom might stand to be Taisho Yui's evil sibling - the black sheep amongst the very first nekovalkyrja made."

"In fact, we discovered that the reason the Mishhuvurthyar were at all at war with us but that they meshed readily with Eve was due to the Mishhuvurthyar invasion not being so much an invasion but a civil war. We discovered that most of the Mishhuvurthyar were actually the by-product of PNUgen's effort to built the nekovalkyrja equivalent of a tank by basing off a neko on the form of another alien race that we currently name the Dark Ones - for lack of a better appellation, for the are like mishhus except they are larger, all black with red stripes and with exoskeletal ribbing everywhere over their bladed tentacles. In a sense, the Mishhus - originally created as the NH-19 Hybridized Weapon System - except instead of being born to protect humans, they were born hating humans for giving them a hideous form, for expecting slavery and service to them with little regard to their free wills. The Dark Ones remain behind, instigating that hate in their new pawns and manipulating the wayward creation of humans so to destroy everything which stems of the human civilization."

That part was always the big bombshell. The admission that fighting the mishhu did not fulfill the noble task of protecting the Empire from an outside threat, but rather dealing with the aftermath of the Empire's mistakes, effectively fighting sisters which wished to break the shackles of their slavery and regain their freedom at any cost.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari tried not to wince, focusing instead on presenting the information coupled with Kotori's briefing. Images of Mishhuvurthyar in PNUgen labs, carefully constructed, with the Miharu MEGAMI's help, from scattered backup records found throughout the PANTHEON system. It was work Yukari had not enjoyed doing at the beach, but it had to be done somehow in order to make the presentation that much more real. She wished the actual PNUgen database had survived.

Each time she looked at the flesh-colored monster that was the NH-19, she wondered why she had not seen it before -- the red eyes, the elongated cat ears, the similar ability to regenerate. The image Yukari had shown was from a medical officer's report of injuries sustained by a scientist working on the NH-19 project -- someone clearly Geshrin. The Mishhu was inside a lab, and it suddenly attacked the scientist. Giant bruises from being slapped with tentacles came with numerous stings, all played out after Kotori stopped talking. Then the Mishhu opened its rather large maw and sheared the scientist's leg off.

The next couple seconds showed soldiers with GP-1 battle rifles blasting away at the creature before someone finally stunned it with some shoulder-mounted gun. That had been a soldier's diary entry mailed to a friend.

The mock-up of the Dark Ones were harder to swallow. Records from the Sakura, and subsequently the Plumeria, were difficult to come by. The destruction of the vessels wasn't the problem. It was that their records were kept under quantum lock and key. No amount of searching could produce them, and the Miharu's SAINT connection went only so far. But she had the image of the enormous, ash-colored demon, scaled down to 3 meters high. The data from SAINT suggested it was actually closer to 6 meters tall, perhaps as tall as 8 meters. Ribbons of matte red slipped over its form, a kind of twisty camouflage for something.

Yukari could find no data on how the Dark Ones were sampled from to create the NH-19. None that was reliable. The image froze over Kotori's head, allowing everyone a good look at the enemy they would face. She did not show Eve yet -- that would come later in Kotori's briefing, Yukari thought.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

The neko was surprised when someone, who looked a lot like Kiyoshi from Fort Ready, took a seat near her and greeted her. She was about to respond when the briefing start, which made her immediately keep her mouth shut.

Kiyoshi here? We all graduated at the same time so why would he get here first...?

Yuril instead decided to focus her attention on the briefing, which would be the first one she had ever attended so she decided to make sure she made a good impression. But the things she saw and heard were... Startling. The neko of silver hair frowned visibly as she thought over all the information in her head, as the briefing continued, she took the most time to think over the information she had just learned on the Mishu, NH-19, and these 'Dark Ones'.

Who'd thought... My first assignment and I get this kind of bombshell dropped in my lap...

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Here we go again. Nyton thought to himself as Kotori announced the truth behind the Mishhu's war with the Empire. He highlighted all of the new faces in his view to see what their reactions would be to the news. Those not in direct sight of encircled vision he merely used his old tricks of catching any reflective surface available. Already the silver Nekovalkyrja had shown a sign of dismay. Nyton waited for the rest of the briefing to unfold and reveal more to him.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Sora frowned at the data that Kotori and Yukari had given them, That does explain a lot about why their castle was more a like giant office building. The young Ketsurui thought to herself. A question popped into her head, noticing that some information was absent from the briefing. It hadn't occurred to her that she might have been one of the few nekos alive that had ever actually seen a Dark One. "Taisa, is there any research on why the presence of the Dark Ones overloads the PSC circuits of our electronics? When we had gotten into the compound and Kakutama and I were tailing the Dark Ones, our electronics overloaded and damaged our power armor's systems. I remember hearing that a similar occurence happened to the Plumeria before we deployed to the surface."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Thank you, Claymere-Shoi," Masako replied sincerely as she gave him a cute smile. "And I have had time to 'thumb' through it, but not enough time to actually look through it like I've wanted too," she said before directing her attention to the briefing.

Masako could only wince slightly as the name PNUgen was mentioned once more. She had months to keep the feeling of betrayal from her mind, but she would always feel it deep in her chest. PNUgen had been the company that created her sisters and her after the devastating battle of Xyainbor. They had created her while the Army had 'raised' her, but the thought of her creator being the actual cause of such a tragedy was painful. Even more so when she was forced to correct their mistakes and to kill other Nekos in order to do so.

The signs of pain only lasted a second upon her expression as she forced an expressionless facade upon her face. Even if she felt betrayed by PNUgen now wasn't the time to allow her feelings to show to everyone. She was the Armor Wing Leader and she now had more subordinates to work under her. She didn't want to show such things as pain in front of them.

The image of said 'Dark Ones' did, however, cause her pitch black eyes to narrow intently upon it. They were also responsible for this war, just as PNUgen was. She didn't know whether the image was a real picture or a representation of them, but she didn't care about that just yet. The Dark One's were not their target. They would be hunting down traitors, people who had been a part of SAINT before joining Eve.

Curiously, she looked around to observe the expressions of her new crewmates. They were hearing this information for the first time after all.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Asher crossed his arms as he listened to the briefing. His lip curled downward ever further as the Taisa went on. He seemed dissatisfied with the information.

Tha' hell? Give me a break! I don't give a g'damn, flying fuck wether they were our second cousins twice fuckin' removed or not. They're still tryin' to kill us.

The Hei shifted his head around a bit, gathering the responses of some the others. Particularly interested in Sora's question, with that, he returned his attention to Kotori.

Good, we may finally learn how to kill these things, good 'n proper.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Kotori shook her head, raising one hand apologetically. "I am sorry, I am not taking any questions yet - I will come back to it in a few."

The amber-eyed nekovalkyrja moistened her lips and continued: "On Miharu's maiden voyage, we've fought against both the Mishhuvurthyar and parts of their attached Black Spiral assets - we participated to the giant fiasco Battle of Taiie and helped defend a flotilla of refugee vessels against the pursuing forces of the SMX ships affiliated to the SMX commander known as Melisson. We managed to find out about something Melisson and the Black Spiral mysteriously referred to as Amaya's Gate and captured the SS Meng Po, a Black Spiral Nozomi-class scoutship and learned from their captured databanks of the nodal probe network both were able to take advantage of to communicate freely to each other secretly while being able to tap freely in our PANTHEON networks."

"I had originally planned to investigate the matter of Amaya's Gate around the center of the most recorded Black Spiral activity - the Great Southern Nebula - but the situation of this conflict had changed."

"Black Spiral is no longer our enemy. Thanks to Taisa Hanako and her crew, negotiations were apparently made to convince them of returning to the fold and some of them defected back to the Star Army of Yamatai, bringing in much useful intelligence. Though this ruins whatever advantage we've enjoyed with their private nodal network since their defection obviously no longer makes this network useful to our enemies... we've also learned that most of them have no idea what this Amaya's Gate is about, though they confirmed that one of the rare non-nekovalkyrja serving Eve was a blonde geshrin woman named Amaya." Kotori's eyes met Nyton's for a brief moment at that point.

"We still have an opponent left after this, though, and their organization is referred by SAINT as being 'The Daughters of Eve'. We still are dealing with a mix of psionically-inclined nekovalkyrja, some neko-mishhu hybrids and a number of Mishhuvurthyar. Black Spiral reported that Amaya was apparently often in Eve's confidence and that two dusky-skinned twin nekovalkyrja named Meni and Mani often shadowed Eve."

"We also no longer need to fear Eve being able to tap into the PANTHEON network for the time being," Kotori added. "The one whom was coerced to grant them administrative access, a revived Empress Yuumi, was rescued by the Sakura's crew in the Second Battle of Urghlaflu. Any future attempt to tamper with the PANTHEON network should be much briefer and less widespread even if Eve manages to try again - she caught us with our pants down before, but she won't do so again."

"A mission made by the Plumeria's crew," she nodded toward Sora and Ichi, "resulted in the elimination of much of the upper echelon leadership of the SMX. This stalled them for a time, requiring for them to reorganise and promoted some infighting for determining whom would remain dominant and command the Mishhuvurthyar battle fleets. This distraction served us well, until a large part of the SMX commanders decided to send an entire flagship-supported fleet to attack Tatiana and Nataria. The Star Army of Yamatai barely fended off their assault and while we did destroy the Shlarvasseroth-class flagship the mishhu had commited to this battle, in exchange we lost most of the Zero Fleet Depot."

"The only Mishhuvurthyar fleet commander whom did not participate was one named Melisson, whom is sitting tight in the Bard star cluster, entrenching her assets there, fortifying her position and such. Plumeria's raid on Hukka has apparently done Melisson a good turn, as Black Spiral reported that with her superior dead, she gained control of all the 1100 SMX warships assigned to the south-east sector instead of the former 200 or so she had left after her conquest of Taiie and Ushobrakflug." Kotori shook her head, "Melisson has grown even more dangerous and has sadly not spent her time being idle. The time the other Mishhuvurthyar fleets spent rushing our core defense network, she spent building shipyards and harvesting resources from her new holdings as well as sending a token force the way of the Yugumo cluster to dispel any notion Motoyoshi-taisho might have of regaining her former holdings. The SMX battlefleet in the Bard star cluster also shows signs of now including a new warship-type whom we currently have classified as a torpedo ship."

Kotori's golden eyes looked over the people assembled. "I've covered the situation report part of this briefing. I will now address your questions before going on to our current mission objectives." The Taisa looked over to Sora again. "To answer yours, I really have no idea. I might be that the Dark Ones have psionic powers far beyond what our PSC technology was designed to handle, or that the Dark Ones have a tool or a counter-measure to cripple our psionic defenses."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Even more information, a lot take in all at once... If she wasn't a Nekovalkryja. She made sure to commit as much of it to memory as possible, knowing full well sometimes information is a much more powerful weapon then well... A weapon.

My first assignment and it's already a pretty large one it seems... I almost have to wonder why they picked someone like me, fresh out of Fort Ready, to be put here... This all seems kind of overwhelming...

Yuril shook her head lightly and then nodded, she couldn't afford to doubt herself, they wouldn't just pick her out of the blue unless she had done something to deserve it.

Have to have a little bit more confidence in yourself here...

Still, in this brief time, the neko noted that Sora had posed a question that gave the impression she had fought these 'Dark Ones' before. It was reassuring really, knowing there were some who had experienced this first hand.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

The cadet's frown deepened at her Taisa's response. It seemed that there would be need for further research. Her expression had darkened at the mention of Melisson. She had not forgotten that it was the interpreter that had killed her and the rest of the Plumeria's crew after Nataria.

"Are we going after Melisson?" Sora asked softly after Kotori opened the floor for more questions.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Kotori shook her head no. "I do not plan to go after her. As much as I would love to give her some richly deserved ass-kicking, we cannot afford ourselves the luxury of revenge. Melisson has a track record of defeating her enemies which tells me that I should not confront her unless I absolutely have no choice."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

A look of great relief crossed Sora's face as she leaned back in her chair with a bounce. She tucked her hair back behind her ears as she folded her arms across her full bosom. "Thank goodness."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton processed the information from both briefer and those being briefed. He calmly noted Kotori's glance to him as she brought up the subject of Amaya being seen inside Eve's closest circle. Interesting. So Amaya is alive. She must have somehow survived or been revived past her reported death. Why then would she be working for the one who killed her supposed lover? Too many variables at the moment. I will have to investigate her data a lot more closely. Especially that involving her body's disposal after the alien's inhabitation. Or maybe there is some sort of hidden record of her ST data having been accessed for a revival. he pondered.

As the briefing continued Nyton could not help but admire the way they managed to tap into the system. Gaining access into PANTHEON using a Yuumi clone, brilliant really. Wouldn't have been possible without Eve's access to the ST data of the royal family. So Eve uses her access to ST backup data to create a backdoor for Melisson. The SMX receive intel that allows them to outmaneuver us left and right. Quite the facinating little working relationship they had there. I doubt they are still maintaining this. I don't see Melisson as the grateful type. If she no longer has access to our net then why should she continue to help Eve? And what did Eve stand to gain from this? Free passage through Mishhu held space to look for Amaya's Gate? Melisson was obviously not helping in this search from what I got out of her reaction back at Taiie. But just what is this Gate? Is this her ultimate goal or just an objective towards a larger pursuit? Even if Black Spiral is no longer our enemy there must have been some reason to search for the Gate. Eve would not quit that if it was important enough to commit an entire branch of rogue SAINT operatives towards this. And it must have been so critical that she kept things vague enough for everyone to not know what it was. Unless Eve herself doesn't know what it is. And how is it connected to this apparently not so dead woman Amaya? he wondered. He had subconsiously adopted his thinking position as his crossed arms shifted to hold his chin and elbow.

Another thought crossed his mind and it was Kotori's obvious gesture to him in regards to Amaya. He felt a little bit of reassurance in himself in knowing that his determination to examine every possible connection with Eve and those she has encountered had been recognized. The other gesture that came to mind was the smile Masako had given him before the briefing began. He felt glad that he could make her happy if only briefly. The wince had also not gone unnoticed. He wondered what part of the information had caused such a brief reaction in her. What would cause any Nekovalkryja to feel distraught at the knowledge of the deep conspiracy behind this war? I suppose anyone would be shaken at finding out the enemy they fight is themselves. The nekos aren't like humans in this matter. They haven't been killing each other for millenia like humans have.

Nyton finally concluded that he would need more information. However that would be forthcoming once the briefing resumed after questions. There was something he did wish to ask, which would indeed save him time if the answer was already available. "Excuse me, Kotori-sama, but was it determined whether the Amaya seen near Eve is the original Amaya who was reported dead? Or was there some record of an ST revival that would prove she is not the original Amaya but perhaps an altered clone? It would save me the trouble of looking if such has already been found."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yoroko's face remained as it was before the briefing had taken place, relaxed but not too relaxed. However inside her head, her mind was spinning at a million miles a minute. We are the cause of the Misshu?!?! They only wanted freedom, what does that make us? Oppressors?! A part of this thought deeply resonated inside Yoroko. The reason she was created was originally to be a maid to a rich nobleman, although she wasn't resentfull of it, she sympathized with the Misshu.

I'm the same as they are. The only difference is when it came down to it, I folded, I submitted. They fought for freedom. Is what we are doing even right? As Yoroko thought this her facial expression dramatically changed. Betrayal, resentment, hatred, and anguish all flashed across her face.

From somewhere deep within her another voice came out of the chaos.
No, you didn't submit, you chose. They could have acted differently, refused to serve or something else, but they didn't. They chose to kill. How many innocent people have suffered because of that choice? How many more will suffer? Maybe someday they will change, but you can't just sit still and hope that is the case, you must prevent more people from suffering. As she thought this her mind became calm, and her face more relaxed, but in her eyes there was still a small look of hurt.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"We have a visual match." Kotori answered Nyton. "She never went around dressing like a goth when she was on the YSS Celia, but this is sensibly the same person. She did look a little more mature and grim, though, from the brief videos I've seen. I can send you the part of the data package I got from SAINT in regard to this so you can make your own observation, Shoi."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Asher sighed, as Kotori went on, a tad dissappointed that some of the crew's efforts had gone to waste. Though he seemed satisfied at least, understanding what was going on. He looked to Yoroko to the left of him, she seem to look odd in the face. He tapped his knuckle on her shoulder.

"You okay? You kind of look like you're going to be sick." Asher sent mentally to Yoroko.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yoroko looked over at Asher, her eyes slightly watering. "Yea, I'll be fine..." Yoroko said in a hushed but shaky voice. After she finished her sentence Yoroko looked back up toward the volumetric display, wondering where and what would come of her first encounter with the SMX. "Have you fought the SMX often?" Yoroko telepathically asked Asher.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

So, the black spiral is our ally now... Takuma thought to himself. The image of the fight on the Meng Po popped into his head. The unarmored, frozen neko that was being protected by her teammate. He remembered pushing back his emotions and firing at the unarmored neko. It wasn't a lethal round, but it still felt like he was shooting one of his own. Now they were one of their own.

He let out a sigh. Orders are orders, it's not like I had a choice. We're at war. I wonder, what ever happen-. Takuma gave an involuntary wince. "The explosion. I almost forgot..." He shook his head to try and clear his mind "At least the Black Spiral will be on our side now."
