Speed Standard Conversion: Phase 3: Other starships

Re: Speed Standard Conversion: Phase 2: Elysia, Lor, Qel'noran,

In this instance, wormholes are really little different than fold, I'd think.

Re: Speed Standard Conversion: Phase 2: Elysia, Lor, Qel'noran,

I think I handled all my ships already...

As for the QnS designs... uh, I'm not sure who should handle those.

Edit:

On the matter of wormholes, wormholes can be viewed as either a 'tunnel' of sorts which has a distance to be traversed, or, as a portal which directly connects two points with no 'travel time' between each. The wormhole system on the Sourcian gunship seems to indicate it being of a portal sort.

Doing Ygg ships now:

Since Sakura's old speed was 300,000c, and its new 21,915c, I divided them and got the number .07305. This is the number one can multiply their old number by to have a proportional speed nerfing. It can also be known as 7.305%.

Question though:

Can the Ygg, and in fact all of the Vampire/Ghoul class have doublers or triplers? I've heard contradiction in the legality of triplers, though I'm sure civilian ships meant for high STL speeds would at least possess doublers.

Also, I have an Equine which is already a 450c slo-mo, and using this system brings its STL down to 33c, which is 1 LY / 11 Days.

So sub 1000c speeds need nerfed as drastically?

The Equine only has a two month range, BTW, so that is less than 6 LY travel before it's exhausted its food, fuel, etc.

*raises eyebrow*

To support your plot, maybe tweaking it up to the lowest FTL speed might be in order then? Else I'm not sure how it'd be workable for you guys.

Yeah. Personally, I recommend that if one does the 0.7305 thing and it is lesser than the slowest Speed Standard Setting, it should be given the Speed Standard value.

Else there will be some ships which were designed to be reasonable before that'll be simply unable to traverse Interstellar space at all.

The Standard actually makes the Equine's FTL more capable, which supports having more people able to get more ships. Now they won't have to have a more expensive ship to get started.

I also note that the Speed Standard seems to be a bit more merciful than Andrew's alternative to the lower speed vessels--whereas Andrew's is likely better for military ships that were at the high end of the spectrum.

The equine and most ships and shuttles under 2500c don't need to be "Nerfed."

Correct.

Also, please don't chart non-Star Army ships (such as the Bellystabber raider) with Star Army of Yamatai ship speeds. The Star Army Starship Speeds chart is only for ships in service with the Star Army.

I'll try and hit the QiS ships during the weekend. I'm planning to give them all mid level tech speed ratings to try and help show a progression in tech levels sense then.

Well, the Bellystabber is a copy of an YSA design...a clone actually.

So what should it be set as?
I already put some speeds in. Don't worry about it.

I need to get the Maras sorted out.

At the moment in technicality, it has no classic "FTL" ability and in fact moves through instantaneous hops with wormholes, hence I marked it as "Wormhole based".

As such, I'll do a bit of math and work out an ideal distance it can jump and how often it can make the jump.

The STL speeds probably need sorting out. Who do I talk to?

I already changed its STL speed.

The Freespacers and other remaining factions/nations should now convert!!

Question: Is the speed standard rigid across the board (i.e., all ships of a given tech be in the same row), or can liberty be taken for design? Nothing significantly beyond the boundaries mind you, but minor adjustments to factor in not just how advanced it is in regard to the way it's built.

Example said:
Can a fighter have a significantly higher top speed than a battleship, due to it being a tiny fraction of the mass and thus being able to accelerate considerably faster with much less structural strain?

Or the inverse; Battleships having higher FTL speeds due to it's much more generous FTL system, in comparison to the ones that have to be small (and therefore low-powered) enough to fit in fighters?

And does "style" count towards speed as tech does? Can a racing ship count as a higher tech bracket than a military craft of the same size? Lightly armored ones have faster STL speeds than heavily armored ones of the same type?
