Star Army goes Secure

Star Army is now set up to use SSL. Note the little padlock icon next to site's name. This encrypts your traffic between your computer and Star Army's servers, so that people can't swipe your password, or eavesdrop on your smutty RP posts in the 18+ section.

Stuff to know:
  • The site should work in pretty much the same way.
  • http links to the site will automatically be redirected to their HTTPS equivalent.
  • Don't hotlink images on the wiki. This is already a rule for multiple reasons but now there's another: mixing non-HTTPS images on an HTTPS page can cause browser warnings to appear.
  • The forum should automatically cache local copies of images so that the aforementioned warnings don't occur.
  • If you see a page with mixed content, let me know so I can fix the links on it.
  • Some school filters may block HTTPS sites, unfortunately.

Not sure how related this is, but I've noticed that when ever I try to a new tab of the site it logs me out. This hasn't happened before today so I'm associating it with the https switch.

Given that I have just re-installed my browser, after pursuing the simpler solutions of clearing local data such as cache, and rebooting my PC, yet I am still getting the same result, I'm fairly certain that it isn't an issue on my end.

At any rate I'll continue to try to sort it out, and any suggested solutions would be appreciated.

Update: After going through all of that and finally posting about the issue here. It seems to have stopped, which is frustrating to say the least. Still continuing with testing to see if I can repeat the issue.

Update 2: Restarting my browser going to SARP's Main Site, into the Shoutbox, and then opening a thread in a new tab seems to have caused the issue again. No idea why.

Update 3: Opening new tabs on the forum itself seems fine. The issue only presents when opening new tabs from the Shoutbox.

Update 4: Opening new tabs seems to link to http:// urls instead of https:// urls. Don't know if this is related yet.

Update 5: Opening new tabs from the Shoutbox is no longer triggering the log out. Nothing discernible has changed.

It looks like going from https to http seems to do the logout.

I also noticed that when someone is logged in on the http version and posts, the Shoutbox notification gives an http link instead of https, and if you click on those you get the logged out view.

I suggest updating your bookmarks to add the "s."
 
I'll try that. It'll take a while to update them all but it should be worth it in the end.
