Re: Mission 1: Readymade

The sensors started scanning the pods for ID numbers, and at the same time, Galar looked through his records for any records of his direct orders. Finally, he found a copy and scanned it. He found the ID numbers that corresponded to the pods he was supposed to pick up. He looked at the screen and found the one he was looking for. The designated pod was the one stuck inside a husk of a ship that looked like it had been brutally eviscerated by an enemy. "Isuzu-Hei, Hibiki-Hei, the pod we are supposed to pick up is inside that ship. I'm going to need someone to go get it without damaging it."

Over telepathic communication, Galar ordered Renko Hibiki, I need you to rescue this pod. A volumetric window popped up in front of her, Do not damage it, and watch out. We don't want to have the troubles we had last time.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

"Captain I'll suit up and prepare to retrieve the lodged pod" Bowing Renko turned and left the bridge.

"Mochi! Could you get a Daisy ready? Specifically a Ke-M6-1C variant specifically."

She trotted over to the armory and began to gather some vital tools. A few bars of space worthy shaped thermal charges and a welding torch. She threw them into a net bag and carried it to the main squad room.

Arriving there she found the specific model she was looking for prepped and waiting. She stuffed the equipment into the storage compartment on the DAISY. Without hurrying she stripped down, dumping her gear onto a bench nearby, and climbed into the DAISY without further ado.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Once Ren had suited up and initiated the armor's the pre-launch check, a data transmission from Isuzu, via the EIES, popped up on her HUD. It was a 'hazard report,' detailing things to watch for in the salvage area, such as anomalous energy readings and potentially dangerous space debris. A map and incomplete structural analysis of the target ship were also included, and an 'active connection' flag indicated that the information was being updated in real time.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

The elevator raised the DAISY to the launch deck where a mechanical arm settled the suit onto the launch platform. The feet locked into clamps in the runners position and Renko squatted down to prepare for launch. The arm released its clamps and moved away from the suit. A numeral counter popped up on the HUD inside Renko’s helmet.

The platform rocketed forward, releasing the foot clamps at the last second, launching Renko into the deep black. Renko ignited her propulsion unit at full power and continued the momentum.

As Renko's DAISY counted down to zero, Galar watched on his volumetric screen. Suddenly, the power armor zoomed off towards the husk, intent upon getting what was needed to complete the mission. Over telepathy, Galar said, See if you can't get at the pod from the top, but if if doesn't look like you can, don't waste your effort. Just go inside the ship to get it. Stay in contact while on this operation.

She had a split second to dodge as a spinning hunk of metal three times her mass nearly blindsided her. Without slowing she simply brought up Isuzu’s junk map and used it to dodge through the field at full speed.

“I have to do this more often….this is fun,” Renko muttered to herself as she approached the target ship. Simultaneously she thought at the Captain, <Aye Aye!>

Arresting her forward momentum Renko landed lightly on the hull of the ship and looked over the pods escape hatch. Sighing she shook her head and walked around it. Being directly there to see it Renko became well aware that it would be impossible to get it out from outside without breaking it.

“Damn….I’m going inside.” Renko paused before turning to find a way in and looked up at the Moirai with a dumb grin on her face. “Smoke me a Kipper I’ll be back for breakfast.”

Giggling to herself she pulled up the ship Map that Isuzu had supplied before moving off in the direction of an airlock that was closer to her goal than any of the holes.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

'Sir, do you want me to suit up and head in as backup? In case something happens I mean?' Kumiko shrugged to herself. It made sense to her,but maybe she was wrong.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

That would be prudent, Kumiko-Hei. Take a "spacey" variant DAISY, and head out immediately.

Suddenly. something pinged on the Moirai's sensors that for some reason had not shown up until now. It seemed impossible to Galar, but the sensors had never failed him before. Perhaps it was simply a false reading caused by something else. For some reason, the sensors showed there to be a life sign not belonging to Kumiko aboard that seemingly dead husk of a ship. Of all things, a life sign. Galar checked the records of the ship's SS pod. It appeared to be an Irim-class Heavy Gunship, which was part of the war with the Misshu starting in YE 25. This particular model had been declared destroyed in a battle with the Misshu, and the entire crew had been declared KIA with few Soul Transfer backups. The mass produced Nekos who had been aboard it were forgotten and there were no rescue attempts made due to the area where the ship was lost. But now, a rescue mission had come, and found that there was still life aboard this certain ship, and no one knew. All alone, this creature, most likely a neko, had, for three years, been abandoned and lost to everyone. Stranded on a ship with no doubt failing life support, she must have thought herself doomed. This was an extraordinary circumstance and would have to be handled with extreme care.

Galar took decisive action, Renko Hibiki-Hei there is still someone alive inside that ship! Use the enhanced sensors to find out exactly where it is and do everything in your power to keep it alive. That means don't blow down doors unless absolutely necessary.

Kumiko-Hei, as Hibiki-Hei's backup, you will be responsible for getting that life out of that ship. Carry an environment suit and make sure that it gets put on whoever is in there.

Lyf-Hei, I need you to go to the hangar immediately. Put an environment suit on and get in the shuttle. Pilot the shuttle over to the ship and get ready to strap that lifesign into a stretcher and bring her back here for immediate treatment.

Isuzu-Hei, Akira-Hei, I need both of you to keep scanning the area, and moving everything out of the way of that shuttle and the two armors.

Strelgar-Hei, keep moving that pod to a storage area. It will take you longer than having two people, but you should be able to do it. Once you reach that area, secure the pod there. Strap it down, and make it so that it won't rattle around should anything happen.

Everyone, I'm counting on you, that is all.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Seated at her station, Isuzu shifted anxiously. She was rather less surprised than Galar was about the sudden, anomalous reading; they were in the middle of a nebular dust cloud, after all. 'Sensor Ghosts' were notoriously common in such environments. Combing through the data feed, Isuzu surmised that the change in assessment was caused by the EIES correlating Ren's suit sensor feed to the ship's own.

It might still just be a 'ghost,' however. What they needed was a better local data stream, but the DAISY sensor package was rather inadequate for detail work- a weakness that she'd noticed in the past. Resolved, the tiny neko rose from her chair and floated toward the door to the bridge. "I will assist Endoh-hei with her preparations. I am still monitoring all sensor feeds," Isuzu told Galar and Akira as she passed.

Shooting down the corridor above head height for better speed, Isuzu made a brief stop at her quarters before proceeding to the armor bay, where she found Kumiko suiting up. In her hands, Isuzu held a black metal tube, or perhaps a flashlight, that was rather larger than she was, though she didn't seem to have any trouble managing it.

"Endoh-hei, slave this to your AIES," she instructed, offering the tool to the Yamataian woman before zipping to the side to grab some duct tape so Kumiko could secure it properly.

((OOC: The device Isuzu is offering is an enhanced portable sensor package. It's a prototype unit, so she should be able to squeeze range out of it equal to about 10x the listed ranges, but this will kill the battery life...))

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

"Che..." Renko grunted as she stopped setting charges on the airlock. "Good thing you were quick Captain."

Sighing she began to remove the charges and disable them so she wouldn't have to blow her way into the powerless airlock.

"Send an external power supply with a hookup for this model. The outer sections of the ship are dead for power for sure. If we wanna get in we need to power it up or blow a hole. Even through damaged areas we'll have to blow it. Shame i don't have a 'port pack. Only way to get in without endangering the person in side is power 'tho."

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Kumiko suited up, and brought the sensor online to test it out. "Wow..." was all she said. Quickly running a system diagnostic to make sure all systems checked out, she re-familiarized herself with the armor, the job being easier with her so recently out of school. She then contacted the EIES system, and requested that it send a external power unit with a hatch system power link to the armor bay ASAP.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

"Good luck," Isuzu offered, before turning and vacating the armor bay. Skimming overhead once more, she passed by Mochi in the hallway. The sprite was manhandling a large, ruggedized emergency capacitor cell toward the armor bay- probably the external power supply that Kumiko had requested.

Arriving back on the bridge, Isuzu gave an abbreviated bow to Galar before returning to her seat without a word. It didn't appear that anything had caught on fire while she was gone, which meant that they'd stopped Ren before she could do her thing.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Galar told Renko, In order to not destabilize the ship, why don't you use one of your forearm projectors and burn a hole through the door. We have to make sure that the lifesign in there isn't forced into an airless environment without either a suit on or at least a source nearby.

Kumiko-Hei, take that sensor and launch immediately; we cannot afford to lose any time.

Inside the bowels of the ship, an NH-17 Nekovalkyrja, curled up in the fetal position, rocked back and forth. Alone in the silence, the neko felt utterly doomed. No one had come yet, there was no reason to expect that anyone ever would. She had been in hibernation for the last few years, but she wanted to die awake, even if if meant that the air would run out a lot quicker.

Suddenly, there came a very faint tapping of metal on metal. Something screeched somewhere in the ship; it did that from time to time. She had gotten used to the sounds the ship made nowadays. It was obviously a very dead ship. She had no idea how the hell there was even enough air in there to keep her alive; there had to be a lot of it as she had lived for the last 4. Or was it 5. She couldn't be sure.

But then the tapping returned. It wasn't like the normal sounds the ship made. Perhaps it was only debris scraping against the hull. Yeah, it had to be that. It couldn't be rescuers, this was Misshu territory; in fact, this was about as close to the center as was possible. She didn't want to think about what it could be if it wasn't debris...

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Affirmative, Vanatosk-shoi. Lyf carefully set down his end of the pod and turned to make his way to the shuttle. "Sorry, I guess you're on your own," he said to Strelgar as he left. Donning his suit, he hopped into the shuttle and prepared for launch.

EIES, please open the hangar doors when I'm clear. Pulling up a visual of his trajectory, he waited for the hanger doors to be completely open before launching. As his shuttle neared the destroyed ship, he began to look for a way in. Hibiki-hei, I'm outside the ship. Where am I needed? As he waited for a response, he also communicated back to Galar. Vanatosk-shoi, please have somebody ready medical equipment in case whoever I'm picking up needs anything.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Kumiko nodded, despite knowing that Galar couldn't see her, and took the power source. Nodding thanks, she quickly took off, and headed for the other ship, sending a short message to Ren saying that she was almost there.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Renko squatted over the door and activated her aether saber. Before she could pierce the hull she pulled up short. "Hurm....worth a try. Captain I'm going to try and make contact with whoever is inside."

Disabling the blade she reached down and knocked in a deliberate pattern for single ping communication. Knocking out a repeating loop, Hello. can. you. understand. this. Query.

With her other hand she gestured to the shuttle to approach. "If you wouldn't mind getting a seal on this hatch with your airlock? Evacuate your airlock first and just engulf me with the outer hatch open please."

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

"Yeah-" Strelgar sighed as he looked to the sprite to lead him and his load that he now has to push by his lonesome. As he pushed the metal scraping as he grunted with the effort of following the sprite with his load in front of him.

"Yeah, yeah-" He muttered, as he heard his joints pop, apparently still tired from his black out.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

The shuttle backed up and completely covered Kumiko and Renko, both in their armors. Galar, once the docking had been completed, said, You have the green light. Start cutting down that door and find that life as soon as you can. Keep me updated, and I will record the mission using the cameras and sensors on your armor.

Deep inside the ship, the NH-17 heard taps which seemed to have a regularity to them. They were very faint, but still audible over the silence which had ruled before. Now that she was awake and waiting for the end of her air and her life, she winced every time debris hit the hull of the ship, making loud reverberations throughout the husk of a gunship. Now, however, there seemed to be a pattern to the debris hitting the hull. Or could it not be debris at all...? Could it be that the Misshu finally found her alone out here and wanted to experiment on her like she was told they did? Shaking visibly, she curled up tighter into a ball and waited.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Monitoring the operation dutifully, Isuzu found herself struck by the peculiar... visceral urgency of her crewmates' actions. Here they were, cutting through the hull and tapping out code through the airlock when they haven't even tried the most obvious option yet.

Accessing into the ship's communication system, both for the power boost and the added protection (in case this was somehow an SMX trap), Isuzu broadcast an open telepathic hail in the direction of the wrecked ship. *Vessel in distress, this is the search and rescue craft YSS Moirai, Third Expeditionary Fleet, Star Army of Yamatai. If you are receiving this message, please respond.*

The message was coded in one of the common, non-personal NH-17 telepathic encryption schemes. If the survivor was a Neko or a Yamataian, their brain would automatically be able to identify it and decode it, while an SMX pretender would have some trouble either producing or interpreting such a message.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Caught off guard by the telepathic message, the Nh-17 let out a physical and telepathic gasp of surprise. Still curled in a tight ball, she feared even more for her safety: they could use telepathy and even mimic Yamataian procedures! She hoped that they wouldn't notice the gasp she inadvertently sent and just move on.

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

Renko moved back away from the door again and ignited her aether saber on her right wrist. With a deliberate care she pierced the hull and began to cut through the airlock at the seams.

"I hate dealing with these things....i always feel like I'm going to cut off my own leg."

Re: Mission 1: Readymade

The echoing gasp, then silence, did not go unnoticed. Setting the computer to periodically rebroadcast the telepathic hail, Isuzu opened a radio channel to Ren and Kumiko. "Hibiki-hei, Endoh-hei, subject is conscious but unresponsive. Be prepared for resistance," she advised.
