RP: YSS Ryūjō YSS Ryūjō - Mission 0 - The Meet Up

Errowyn moved around her Kawarime, doing exterior preflight checks. Wondering what Kakeru was thinking as she checked her fighter out.

~~ you're the one that suicidal ~~

~~ Yeah right... why do I survive? ~~ Errowyns mouth moved, but no sound came out as she peeked into access panels, checking out weapon mounts making sure they would work when needed.

~~ we like you ~~ Another voice chimed in her mind.

Errowyn gave an unladylike snort, kicking the landing wheels on her craft. ~~ Yeah right, sisters ~~ Moving around to the rear of her Kawarime.

~~ you're the strongest one of us, sis. ~~ Another, but more shyer than the others, spoke up.

Errowyn shook her head, making her ponytail come undone. ~~ What if I die and get a new body? ~~ Beginning to check right wings weapon mounts.

Silence, leaving her to her thoughts and checking out her craft.
 
Henry continued staring at the wall, one foot on his knee as he listened to the briefing. His expression was blank as he silently digested the information, finally blinking when the crew was dismissed. He leaned back and stretched, as if from a nap. He stood up, grabbing his empty cup to go retrieve more coffee. However, he stopped when Nichols approached him, a grin on his face. "Now, what could have you so chipper?" Holliday thought with a smirk of his own. He crossed his arms as his wingman explained himself. He nodded at Svein's request. "I suppose that would be wise. I would assume that the mechanics would have had time to tinker with the aircraft, but I will concede that they may need our assistance regardless." With his approval and Nichols in tow, Doc led the way to the hangar they had left their aircraft in. The dentist went to his own Kawarime as soon as he saw it, leaving no room for discussion as he examined it for any imperfections. Of course, the two rookie fighter pilots had not run into anything that would mar the fighters' spiffy appearance, but it would simply not do to find a sneaky piece of dust on one's uniform, so surely the same could be applied to fightercraft! Finding the external chassis satisfactory, Henry climbed onto the Kawarime and opened the cockpit, crouching behind the seat as he looked into his new man-cave. "Nichols!" He called to the refugee in question. "Don't forget to check your circuits! The Drill Instructor had a grand time making you cry to a pen!" The cheeky bastard promptly sat in his seat, faffing about with the systems to make sure he didn't hit something on his way out. Unlikely, but still possible.
 
Halfway to Deck 5, Kakeru broke off from following Errowyn to stop by the Medical Center. From what he saw of the Joto Hei's personality, her "tests" might be dangerous and his last backup was before he arrived on ship. Originally assigned as ground support, he did not even know that there was a recon fighter assigned to him until the briefing and he needed to draw a flight suit which he did not have from the ship armory, which seems to double as the ship's quartermaster stores, as well.

"MEGAMI, who was the Joto Hei I was following?". To crown off his impression of Errowyn's rudeness, she did not even introduce herself and forced him to use this roundabout method simply to get her name.

"Joto Hei Errowyn Yumeoibito, formerly of the Fort Minori Aerospace Defense Squadron."

"Thank you MEGAMI. An aerospace defense squadron. That might explain why she's so gung-ho."

Folding his hands over his chest as he lay down on the medical bed, he put the problem that was Errowyn out of his mind as he waited for the sedative to take effect.
 
Sigrid gave Sebastian a nod as she left the table. The black skinned neko then picked her mug and looked at two soldier who approched her. She noted the mention of Chiharu. 'Great a religious nut,' Sigrid though for herself and hoped it won't be any trouble.

"At ease, I am Kongo Sigrid-heisho. Kongo-heisho or Sigrid-heisho is fine." she said to those two. "All right santo-hei. Don't worry too much about lack of experience. Everyone had to start somewhere. Just follow orders and remind yourself of what you have been given in training and it should be all right."

"Melee eh Nitto-hei?" Sigrid turned her head to Ume. "That will be useful. Unless they force one of the spooks onto me, it will be just the three of us. Which means we will have to be careful. Covert and stealth will be our best bet. I hope you can take out a enemy at close range without making a noise."
 
Ume relaxed, dropping her salute and gaviving the gunto on her hip a soft pat and nodded to Sigrid "I don't have the formal training of the Ketsurui Samurai but I am confident I can quickly dispatch enemies whether we're in power armor or not." She gave a smile to show her confidence, after all just about everything she learned was directed at enabling her melee combat skills.
 
Shoving his uniform into the flight locker with indecent haste, Kakeru sealed his flight suit and trotted out to his fighter for a quick walk round. Fortunately, with the demise of air ingestion engines, most Foreign Object Debris walks these days are not to protect the plane but to protect the surroundings from flying debris kicked up by passing craft.

After a quick check of the diagnostic systems and ensuring that the maintenance hatches were properly sealed, he looked over to the weapons pylons. Seeing both the decoy system and the rocket pod with their "safe" tags removed, he clambered up the cockpit ladder and into the cockpit itself, breathing deeply of the "new aircar" smell. Like the Ryujo and the flight suit he was just issued, the fighter seemed brand new. Testing out the cockpit systems and the play of the atmospheric control systems did not indicate any surprises. The exo-atmospheric control systems would have to wait until he was out of atmosphere before they could be seriously tested but electronic diagnostics clucked and gave their approval for now.

Hoping that he did not keep the rest of the pilots waiting too long, Kakeru switched to the default squadron frequency: "Joto Hei, Hei Shinozaki. What is our squadron callsign, over?"
 
Nobuharu donned a small calming smile. He could tell Sigrid was a bit no nonsense but that was ok. Structure had sometimes a bigger role than faith.

"Thank you for the guidance Kongo-Heisho. I heard during the briefing that you would be first onto planet. While in training I rated high marks in urban tactics and survival. I am eager to serve the will of Yamatai. If there is anything you can think of that I can assist with please let me know.
 
Sigrid nodded to both her new sub-ordinates. "Good," she said and headed for the hallway. "You heard the captain, we are to the final sweep of the ship. Got to look for any undesirable stowaways. You two go check decks one to three, I will take five to seven and we will link up on fourth. Eyes peeled and if you don't have you NSP on you, go get it and make sure you always have it. We are the security inside the job, so we have to the job seriously. Don't be afraid to work together with the ship's AI. All clear?"
 
"As you say Miss. I will assist Hatoyama-Hei to the best of my ability," Nobuharu stated in a soft tone.

He turned to Ume, "I am currently armed so I am ready to begin when you are. Please, call me Nobu or Nobuharu. I am delighted to be working with you and I look forward to serving beside you." It's either that Nobuharu might be trying too hard to build a rapport or he is just naturally a kind friendly person. From his demeanor and tone it is more towards being kind hearted and friendly. His face shows a naturally empathetic expression coupled with his soft tranquil lilt in his voice. It's hard to believe that this type of peaceful person not only made it through initial training but was assigned to a, possibly, highly dangerous assignment as an Infantryman.
 
Hanger bay 5

Errowyn finished up her checks, nodding to the crew chiefs that the Kawarime was ready for flight and load out for munition. "Strong offence and go light on defensive munitions. Standard defense load out." She looked up at her craft with a soft smile. It looked tired and beaten, yet it still had its teeth.

She gave '5' a pat on the forward landing strut as she went to check up on the other two pilots. She watched them go over their assigned fighter crafts. She whispered softly, "I hope you guys are quick learners."

She slipped out from the hanger bays and headed on up to her quarters on Deck 3. She still had to unpack and get settled in.
 
Once Doc had lead his wingman, Nichols, to the hangar bays, the wingman made a bee-line for his own craft. Sadly, the Nepleslian pilot wasn't trained for physical maintenance, but he'd been taught well enough to recognize the many modular systems that were scattered amongst the Kawarime, though he couldn't tell what would've been the proper or improper appearance of them or how to go about fixing them. Yet this lack of varied skill was made up for as far as the electronic systems were concerned.

Whilst he was within the cockpit of his own Kawarime, he'd decided to run a brief check over the weapon systems and had his eyes locked on a screen, the on-board radio hissed briefly before Kakeru's voice identified who was speaking and a follow-up question. Said question caught Nichols's attention enough he blinked and threw his gaze over to Doc for a moment before a laugh escaped him as he dug out his communicator to the squadron frequency and set the device in his lap as he resumed his casual system checking.

"Santo Hei, Nichols. There isn't one. Joto-Hei Yomeoibito Errowyn would give us wingnuts and the squadron a callsign. By the way, your Kakeru, right?"

"Roger that Nicols, Shinozaki Kakeru. By the way, Chusa Nayacesen wants a pre-jump recon of the target system before he brings the Ryujo in, but Joto Hei Yomeoibito didn't want to go or assigned me a wingman, you interested in grabbing the spare Teisatsu for hours of sneaking around and boredom? From what I gather, we jump in, take a look around, call in the big guns if it is clear, then keep an eye on the opposite side of the planet to make sure nothing is sneaking up while the Ryujo drops troops. If there are bad guys, we cover the rest of the squadron while they launch. Interested?"
 
Ume listened to her orders and gave a soft nod in reply "Understood Kongo-Heisho." She gave a salute and then turned her attention to Nobuharu who was beside her.

"You can call me Ume then. It's a pleasure to work with you Nobuharu." The purple Neko was bright eyed and rather energetic for a soldier herself. She didn't seem like the kind that would be bothered by a mismatch between personality and occupation, hard to believe she would even perceive it in the first place. "Since I have my things too, we can head up to deck one and get started." She spoke with a lage smile on her face as she began to walk. "Nobuharu, do you think there's a pool on this ship?"
 
Yaeko smiled brightly at the other Neko that approached her. "Arigatō Hei. Let's set to work." Standing up Yaeko motioned for the young girl to follow and set off towards the bridge. "So what's your name? My name's Yaeko Munkata-Shoi." She looked behind her with a rather large smile on her face. "I'm so excited for this new assignment, my old on was such a drag. Not a lot of action, and no cute boys." Yaeko gave a wink before she turned her attention back to the corridors in front of her.
 
"Santo Hei Amatsukaze Noa. Yoroshiku," the eight inch tall Neko did a mid-air bow, and then came to rest on Yaeko's shoulder, riding it side saddle and bobbing up and down as the larger officer walked the corridors. "If what the Chusa said is true, I think you're going to find a lot of both of those things here!" began the energetic technician, "The way you came into the Mess Hall, I think you got plenty of attention already." This was obviously in reference to the civilian clothes she was still wearing. "Maybe you should get changed into uniform on the way to the bridge, or else we may make half the ship stop and ask for a date..." This was followed by a saucy little giggle.

Kakeru's request for a wingman wasn't one Nichols had a ready response for, which caused him to fall into his traditional state of silence as he thought things over. "If Errowyn's already denied his request personally, I doubt she'd permit anyone under her authority to go either." The Nepleslian pilot's thoughts drifted towards Doc as he checked off the targeting systems of his Kawarime and turned his attention to the sensors. "I'd imagine Holiday's fatigued too, maybe not as severely as I am though."

Once Holiday came to mind, Nichols ceased halfway through his inspection of his Kawarime's sensors. However, before he could question his friend, Kakeru deserved a response that Nichols had been keeping from him. "I'm exhausted after a long and mundane one-way flight. These things don't have an auto-pilot, so I couldn't catch up on my sleep. I'll ask Doc if he would be interested. If not, I'll go inform Joto-Hei Errowyn I've volunteered to fly the number two Teisatsu." Nichols turned the microphone on his communicator off as he climbed out of his cockpit and walked up to Holiday before the refugee slugged the classy gentle-doofus's arm. "Hey, the SAINT scout pilot's asking for a wingman. I'm struggling to keep my eyes open as it is. You want to go or shall I?"
 
As he followed the Neko to deck one, Nobuharu took in the sights of the ship. Nobuharu strode confidently and seemed to own his place on board. He was sure this was his path and he was determined to be the absolute best he could be. To Ume's question, "Well, I'm not sure. I would assume it would for both the physical and recreational services it can offer. Are you planning to go there if there is, after your shift? We could ask the MEGAMI. As for the ship sweep. Are there any tips you have for me? Would you like to split up the duty. I could look high and you low or vice versa."
 
Yaeko giggled a little before responding. "I'm still on leave for another ten minutes. If the captain has a problem with it then I can go take a cat-nap until leave runs out." She glanced at the little Neko before she added, "So, just to get the cat out of the bag, what's with the... uhm... height? Manufacturing issue?"
 
The eight inches tall soldier gave a pouty expression towards Yaeko as she suggested she was a mass cloning mistake. "Heeeeey, I'm not some kind of glitch or a youngling... I'll have you know that I'm a KZ certified NH-33M model Nekovalkyrja. I've got all the good stuff everyone else has, but in a super handy petite size! With my leet IT hacking skills from SAINT and medical mojo, I'm the perfect compliment to any ship."

Noa then folded her arms and started hovering again with her anti-gravity, as a download of an informational guide to mini-Nekos was also conveniently made available to Munkata-shoi wirelessly by the little assistant's digital mind, if she was so inclined to research the topic further. Noa was also watching data streaming across her vision from the MEGAMI as she apparently was checking up on the whereabouts of Shinozaki-kun in the background during the conversation, wondering if he made it to the flight deck in one piece...

Holliday had been particularly engrossed in the software data of his fighter craft, reviewing the alterations and general data that the screen in front of him projected. However, his eyes, straining from involuntarily focusing on the glowing numbers and symbols in front of them, began to wander, and he was pulled from his equipment review at the sight of Kakeru. He set down his elbow on the edge of his cockpit and leaned over to get a better look at the SAINT agent, a skeptical yet passively-aggresive smile on his face. "Well now, come to verify our loyalty, have you? Afraid we might actually be spies or fiends in the employ of the Nepsleslian government or some other group of blackguards? Tell me, Nichols, is he asking questions about your heritage?" And throughout this tirade, the dentist's mask did not break, maintaining it's civility even as poison dripped from his lips. Evidently, Doc has a bit of a problem with cloak-and-dagger types.
