Misato post

///MedBay\\\

Misato noticed how the medic looked almost asleep when she can in the bay. "Nothing more then any other day. We are going to see combat at some point... I wouldn't be surprised most folks will be through here at some point." She Walked over and got up on the Machine. She knew what was coming and how much it sucked on a new ship. It hurt a bit.

"I would suggest that you get a back up down for yourself and then get down to the PA bay and get yourself a PA set up. If we hit the dirt at some point, a medic will be coming along. I know that for a fact. And I'm sure your boss will let you take some time to set yourself up right."

The communication's officer spoke into her headset then paused for a few moments. It wasn't long before she had a response for Takeyu, "Sir they report that the engines aren't powering up correctly, apparently a miss aligned Aether condenser coil... Report sits at three hours for a replacement and then another five for power up."

///Edge of system\\\

With a flash a Shuttle slammed it's way back into reality and sub-light speeds. With in seconds it was broadcasting to the Soyokaze, directly to the XO with full encryption and "For Your Eyes Only" plastered across her screen.

Nenene raised an eyebrow as the secured transmission come in with her name on it. That was interesting, she thought. Who could be getting a hold of her and what information were they sending her so close to Soyokaze's departure time. The SAINT officer keyed in her personal security code and routed the encrypted message through directly to her digital brain. Being SAINT she had the proper decryption software installed in her head already.

Mess hall

Ume had spotted a man with gruff looking features sitting at a table trying to learn how to use chopsticks as someone else taught him. She figured maybe he was the person Misato was talking about and began to head over but soon she spotted an even gruffer looking man with a scar and goatee. She looked between the two for a bit trying to decide but seeing that the second man was alone she went over that way to investigate. Soon the purple skinned neko was standing in front of Rafe and she waved lightly "Hello, do you mind if I sit here?"

Cafeteria

Rafe was still studying his data screen when a purple skinned Neko walked up to him and politely asked to sit across from him. "Of course you may", he gave her a slight smile, "My name is Rafe, and you are?".

Mess Hall

Ume smiled and removed the sword from her hip and propped it against the table and then sat down. The sword did not look like something the Star Army would issue, it was in a scabbard designed to look like cherry wood, but it looked like it could be held even by a power armor's hands. "I'm Ume,but I don't like plums." She seemed rather energetic and bubbly maybe a little too much for speaking with someone she just met. "Do you like plums?"

Chiasi listened to the report from the communications person. She pondered how such a critical component of the ship went unnoticed. She considered the possibility that the problem was due to sabotage. Sadly her analysis made it clear that unless the KFY facility was totally negligent the other ship was damaged either due to crew negligence, or malicious damage. Given the sense of urgency, she calculated that the commander would order the rest of the group to launch.

Mess Hall

Fortunately, Chieko and Bors didn't seem to register the rude interruption, even though the trio were seated just a few feet away. Venus and Soga didn't even seem to notice, continuing to chatter while Riko received some rather personal, hands-on instruction on the proper use of chopsticks. Caramel seemed amused that each pair seemed oblivious to the other, watching the two scenes unfolding. It wouldn't take the Neko long to plow through their food, though.

Cafeteria

Chieko smiled as Riko seemed to be picking things up better. "Very good!" she grinned, eventually making her way back around to her own seat and food. The infantryman's comment about splinters, however, made the scientist giggle.

"They cut the bamboo specifically to avoid splinters," she replied, "However, there are methods one can employ to further reduce those chances." The academic picked up her own, showing off the violet lacqure coating. "These are what I grew up with, though they are much more plain than some of the sets my parents have back home."

The young Minkan used them to pile a few items into her mouth and chewed on them happily before swallowing and continuing. "They cost a little more than mess issue, but they also come with a nice box to store them in for when you are done," she smiled, picking up a similarly coloured plastic box with printed pansies on the lid.

Cafeteria

Rafe was slightly taken aback but hid it well. "Plums?", he said, "Well, Ume, its been sometime since I had one but last time I checked I did. Why don't you like them?". He had a feeling there was quite a story behind this and he politely put his data pad away, noting the unusual sword and sheath that the Neko carried. He made a mental note of it and refocused on the purple Neko in front of him.

Takeyu sighed and rubbed his forehead at the report, it was some really bad timing on that ships part to suddenly develop a problem on the eve of their launch.. and had it not been for the seriousness of their mission, he probably would've put a halt and waited. "Deploy a squad of our fighters to guard the transport, so that she isn't entirely defenseless 'when' she joins us in a few. Inform the captain of the escort fighters and that I would like a report from them later on the cause of the malfunction," it wasn't exactly pleasing to hear a ship would be delayed - but that was life, and part of being in the military, not everything would go according to plan. "Inform the rest of the squadron to begin for departure."

Cafeteria

"
Huh, used to have a pistol that looked like that.." Bors said inspecting the box, "Was a gift that I re gifted to a ... friend..."

Bors remembered giving the, rather petite and decrative pistol to his old doctor friend and the phrase 'why the hell would I need a gun? I'm a doctor!' popped into his head again. Bors chuckled a bit as remembered trying to explain that everyone needs a gun on Nepleslia, even doctors.

"Was kind of cute, though the recipient didn't seem to like it too much." He spoke up shortly after his pause before popping one of the dishes mushrooms into his mouth.

Nenene read over the eyes only communique, then read over it a second time. Well, that was going to be interesting. SAINT had an idea of the disposition of enemy forces, which would come in more than handy when they assaulted the place. She also had her own mission, extracting a deep cover agent. This information she would have to share with the Captain when the time was right, of course, but for now she needed to formulate a plan for contacting and extracting the agent once they were local.

She quickly drafted her reply and sent it back via the same secure channel.

Orders received and understood.

Cafeteria

"I used to like them. But when I was in training they gave me a plums everyday. Lot and lots of plums cause my name is Ume. But it was too many, and I started not liking them." She began eating now and looked to the man with curious eyes. "Is this your first time on a ship?"

Cafeteria

"As good a reason as any I suppose", Rafe replied, "and no, I spent some time on my fathers cargo ships, but they were nowhere near this size. They also had a tendency to smell much worse", he grinned wryly. After taking a couple bites of food he glanced at her sword, "that's not standard issue, where's it from?".

Cafeteria

Ume looked down at her sword at mention of it and then shook her head. "It's part of a test to see if NH-33 Nekovalkyrja with accelerated learning and simple practical training can perform at a level acceptable for warfare. Right now the Eihei model is capable of it, but has many more enhancements than the Tenyo. I'm one of the NH-33 testing out how far it can be taken in space. There are NH-33 that will be trying it on land, in and out of power armor as well." She pats the sword. "It's not too sharp on its own but it has a heat edge function. So when being wielded by a power armor it in theory should be able to do reasonable damage to another armor in combat."

"Well, I must say I am not familiar with those particular weapons", Rafe said, "but they certainly sound dangerous. I have some melee combat training but I personally favor ranged weapons". He took out his data pad and wrote something down, "I will have to look into it more. Do you spar with it frequently?".

"I think I will. I have only left my training recently.. So it has been scheduled the whole time. It would be nice to have someone to practice with though. So I can get better in actual combat." She stuffed a piece of tempura in her mouth and chewed it, once she was finished with it she looked to him "What kind of ranged weapons do you like?"

Cafeteria

"I prefer pistols and larger caliber marksmanship rifles. I would rather hit them before they get close enough to hit me", Rafe replied, "although it could be said that the sword is a more honorable weapon", he shrugged, taking a huge bite of some meat and relishing it. Changing the subject he asked, "So whats the word going around about our destination? There's always some rumor making the rounds".
