YSS Resurgence

YSS Resurgence (IRN NG-S1-575) is a Fuji-class Expeditionary Gunship serving in the Star Army of Yamatai's First Fleet. It is home of the Resurgence Of Yamatai roleplaying campaign.

YSS Resurgence was the first ship to encounter the Xynar Dominion and to discover ruins of the Aetherian Progenitors.

History

The Resurgence was part of a series of starships built at Ketsurui Star Fortress at the end of the Kuvexian War to bolster the losses from the massive Third Battle Of Nataria and Battle Of Glimmergold. As the First Fleet continued to expand and become the Star Army's main fleet, the types of units in it diversified and included more ships capable of long-range, extended deployment including the Fuji-class Expeditionary Gunship. Fabrication of parts and crew selection by Star Army Personnel Command for the YSS Resurgence began in YE 42.9 and was completed in YE 43.1.

Launched without ceremony, it was immediately deployed on an important post-war survey mission to examine the war's effects on the sector and cleanup remaining enemy forces.

YE 43

In YE 43, YSS Resurgence conducted PEARL rescue missions to retrieve personnel and Yamataian citizens who had been left behind on Hanako's World. It also visited White Harbor Station.

In YE 43.6, the YSS Resurgence returned to Yamatai (Planet) and then visited White Harbor Station in the Anisa system1). While there they rescued a Senti named Morivai Janik from a damaged spaceship2).

In YE 43.7, Resurgence began her fourth mission3), escorting cargo ships carrying humanitarian aid. The ship first traveled to Nataria, then to Tatiana, and then Darso, where it boarded and destroyed one Kuvexian Ex-Navy ship and saw cargo delivered, and took prisoners. Then Resurgence went to the An Rhy (Valaad) system to escort another cargo delivery mission.

In YE 43.8, Resurgence returned to Yamatai (Planet) for repairs and the crew was able to attend the Candy Festival of YE 434).

YE 44

In 44.2, the Resurgence visited Pisces Station prior to the International Relations Conference Of YE 44. While on Pisces, the crew got a a tip from a mysterious secret agent named Paul that allowed them to locate the Tr'Pocka System, where a secret Nepleslian private research vessel named SS Spark was left adrift in orbit of a machine planet. The Resurgence sent an away team over where they found the ship had been disabled by and infected by boarders from the machine planet, in the form of computronium mechanical constructs that could take over computer systems–essentially walking computer viruses. The Resurgence evacuated its personnel and one survivor and destroyed the Spark.

The Resurgence returned to Pisces Station in YE 44.3 and Captain Aoba participated in the International Relations Conference5) while the enlisted crew had a pub night6)

In YE 44.5, the Resurgence visited Sood Zadra to seek information about machine planets in coreward space.

In YE 44.6, the ship went to coreward space to investigate a machine planet, Samurr, and captured it for use by Nagashun.

In YE 44.7, Resurgence helped move refugees during the Arrival of the Norians.

In YE 44.8, the Resurgence crew participated in the Candy Festival of YE 44 in YE 44.9.

Members of the YSS Resurgence attended the Year-End Holiday Festival in Kyoto.

YE 45

In YE 45.1, the Resurgence launched from Central Fleet Depot and went to Darso, but then turned around to visit Gashmere in response to a recent terror attack. The chief science officer was confined to quarters for questioning by order of the Empress of Yamatai and Ketsurui Yui.

The Resurgence then space-folded to Kepler's Find to explore it. It was the first YSE starship to do so. After collecting samples of artificial life from the surface and the sea below using a drill, the ship moved to Shirakawa no Iori in the Ahmar star system.7). An away team from the Resurgence discovred an underground cave/bunker complex on the surface, and evidence that some of the Seelie species had survived, but that they had been recently been taken by Kuvexian pirates to sell into slavery. The Resurgence also found a Kuvexian shuttle owned by a rival Kuvexian group, and a lone robotic survivor named Mitalar Sevinna, who the Resurgence recruited for intelligence on the pirates. Due to the size of pirate forces, the Resurgence then returned to Nataria to get a second Fuji-class Gunship from the Nataria Fleet Depot. The Resurgence dispatched a portion of the crew to man the YSS Renaissance under commander of Benna. The two ships then set off for the Kazumi, passing through Koenic, Ah Rhy, through Wazu Corridor into Old Mishhuvurthyar Space and Higaflan. After arriving at Kazumi, the ship sent a team to infiltrate the frigate ISS Garrik Sylbella and stole data from its main computer.

In YE 45.4, the Resurgence went on a mission to find and rescue the YSS Wakaba. Using Star Army Intelligence intelligence reports, fragmented distress calls, and tips, the ship proceeded to the galactic “north” past Iromakuanhe space and found a star system containing tachyon anomalies and at least one wormhole to a distant location. The system was occupied by the Mishhuvurthyar and the ship was attacked and boarded by them. In response, the Second Fleet attacked the system in force and the Resurgence and YSS Renaissance used this distraction to enter the wormhole where they were able to discover the YSS Wakaba downed on a planet. When the Resurgence was attacked by Mishhuvurthyar forces, the crew managed to steal the main reactor from a Mishhuvurthyar cruiser, allowing the Wakaba to make a narrow escape back into space just as a massive Mishhuvurthyar dreadnought struck its former location with a devastating anti-planetary weapon. The 3 Star Army ships escaped through the wormhole by rushing through the emerging Mishhuvurthyar fleet, emerging at the battle site on the other side8). Afterwards, the crew assisted in recovery operations9).

In YE 45.5, the Resurgence crew participated in the Kikyō No Sekku parade in Kyoto.

In YE 45.6, YSS Resurgence went through a wormhole to discover a huge apparently abandoned station10). As fate would have it, the expedition led to the discovery of a long-forgotten civilization, igniting a spark of curiosity and cautious interaction among the team. The crew, with a blend of eagerness and caution, initiated contact with the remnants of the ancient civilization “Concordia,” which had been preserved in stasis many years ago to escape a with hostile AI war machines. The unfolding events were a blend of science, diplomacy, and potential alliances, widening the horizons for the Star Army of Yamatai.

As the crew delved deeper, a confrontation with menacing adversaries known as Rippers awaited them. The ensuing battle showcased the agility and resolve of the Star Army soldiers, who valiantly faced the threat with unyielding determination. The combat was fierce, yet the indomitable spirit of the crew prevailed against the odds. However, the battle left some wounded, calling for immediate medical attention. Poppy, the medic, swiftly attended to the needs of the injured, showcasing the readiness and adeptness in providing critical care. The wounded, including Okimi and Pidole, were stabilized thanks to Poppy's timely intervention, underscoring the importance of prompt medical response in such perilous situations.11).

This expedition exemplified the essence of exploration, bravery, and camaraderie among the Star Army of Yamatai. The tales of valor and the unraveling of ancient mysteries continue to echo through the annals of the Star Army, signifying the boundless possibilities that await in the cosmos.

Post their adventurous Mission 9, the YSS Resurgence crew engaged in rearmament and preparation for future endeavors. A casual dinner gathering turned into a significant discussion led by supply specialists Beryl Leyton and Hachirobei Sakuko, concerning equipment upgrades. Beryl initiated a conversation on equipment enhancements based on the previous mission's experiences, presenting an opportunity for the crew to compile a wishlist while the Star Army's exploratory enthusiasm was at its peak. Highlighting the initiative, Beryl revealed the introduction of Star Army Explorer Uniforms and a new fleet of shuttles, marking a significant step towards bolstering the crew's readiness for upcoming missions12).

In YE 45.8, the crew of YSS Resurgence took to the stars on Mission 10, departing from the Central Fleet Depot. Upon liftoff, a mission briefing was held in the wardroom, orchestrated by Erika alongside Mineko. The objective was laid out: to investigate a planet known as Mwigflukbajik, believed to harbor a Mishhuvurthyar facility containing valuable assets. The mission was sparked by SAINT's initiative to delve deeper into the Mishhuvurthyar threat, with a focus on exploring hidden secrets of a planet with a profound historical significance to the Yamatai Star Empire13). After some exploration, the crew discovered former slaves in one of the few surviving facilities and evacuated them to the ship. These refugees were able to provide the location of a hidden NMX facility.

YE 46

In YE 46.1, the YSS Resurgence was dispatched to the Concordia Sector to assist the First Fleet in repelling a significant NMX offensive aimed at reclaiming a strategic space station. Captain Aoba organized the crew into two primary teams: a ship defense quick response force to counter potential boarding actions and an away team designated for offensive strikes against enemy vessels.

Upon arrival, the crew engaged in a massive space battle, deploying power armor units to combat the overwhelming swarms of Mishhuvurthyar battle pods. The Resurgence's main cannon played a pivotal role, delivering decisive blows to enemy ships. As the battle progressed, the tide turned in favor of the Star Army, prompting the Mishhuvurthyar forces to retreat. In the aftermath, the away team conducted reconnaissance on a downed enemy vessel, uncovering valuable intelligence. However, during the mission, Cheilith, a crew member, was compromised and initiated a hostile action aboard the Resurgence, resulting in casualties. The situation was contained, but not without loss. The mission underscored the persistent threat posed by the NMX and highlighted the crew's resilience and adaptability in the face of multifaceted challenges. 14)

In YE 46.2, the YSS Resurgence visited Koenic15) where they helped defeat a NMX effort to take over the planet and defeated a Necro-Mishhu in the mummy-filled sewers outside.

In YE 46.4, the Resurgence was fitted with a Apollo Teleporation Chamber and KFY "Froggy" Teleport System 🐸.

In YE 46.4, The crew had recently returned from the Hanami Festival and an International Relations Conference on planet Yamatai, and are now transitioning back to battle mode for the upcoming operation. Resurgence led a major operation against the Mishhuvurthyar Fleet, aiming to permanently take and hold a wormhole for Yamatai and destroy as many NMX ships as possible. First Fleet had 5,343 starships, the Mishhuvurthyar Fleet had about 4,000, and elements of other fleets and a fleet from the Star Army of Uesureya joined the effort. The crew faced intense combat as they encounter a large Mishhuvurthyar mecha attacking their ship, prompting a fierce battle involving mechs, fighter jets, and enemy assault pods.16)

In YE 46.4, the crew of the YSS Resurgence undertook a mission to neutralize a fortified NMX base on Planet Acuna. Utilizing newly installed teleportation technology, they infiltrated the base, aiming to disable critical infrastructure, including the power plant and anti-ship gun systems.

The team successfully planted explosives in the power plant, causing significant disruptions. However, during the operation, several crew members, including Sanda, Yayoi, and Chiheisen, were captured by the Mishhuvurthyar leader, Vurlprhakkarl. Facing dire circumstances, Sanda offered herself as a slave to secure her comrades' release. Despite her sacrifice, the remaining crew managed to regroup, eliminate the parasites implanted by Vurlprhakkarl, and launch a rescue mission. They successfully retrieved their power armors, confronted Vurlprhakkarl, and rescued Sanda, effectively crippling the NMX base's operations.17)

Poppy and Mineko discussed their pasts and futures. Poppy joined the military in YE 39, underwent training in Kyoto, and was stationed at the Nataria Fleet Depot where she met Gabriela. Mineko, a Second Generation Nekovalkyrja, had her family likely killed during the Battle of Nataria, and was raised by teachers and caregivers in Tsubomi. Poppy's parents were a surgeon and a biologist working for PNUgen, and she grew up with a strong curiosity about the body and a passion for studying various subjects. The conversation between Poppy and Mineko revealed insights into their backgrounds, including Mineko's upbringing and Poppy's fascination with Nekovalkyrja and human biology18).

The crew of the YSS Resurgence attended a burial ceremony to honor their fallen comrade, Davonte Lyons, who died in battle. The crew members expressed their grief, resolve, and commitment to avenging Lyons' death and protecting their loved ones. Sanda, a Ranger, struggled with the trauma of her captivity and the death of Lyons, while Poppy, the ship's doctor, feels frustrated by the inability to revive fallen comrades due to some refusing mental backups. Yoshiro shared his personal experiences of loss and tries to lighten the mood by sharing a humorous story to help Sanda cope with her distress. The crew supported each other through their grief and trauma, emphasizing the importance of mental and emotional well-being in addition to physical safety19).

In YE 46.5, following their summer shore leave, the crew of the YSS Resurgence embarked on a mission to explore the Concordia Sector's network of wormholes, previously utilized by the NMX. Captain Aoba briefed the crew on their objective to investigate these unexplored wormholes, aiming to identify potential threats and expand the Star Army's knowledge of the region.

The crew launched probes to map the wormhole network and, upon analyzing the data, selected a wormhole for exploration. Traversing through it, they arrived in an uncharted area of the Kagami Galaxy, where they discovered an ancient, technologically advanced temple on a planet's surface. Inside, they found a vast facility featuring a Dimensional Core capable of interdimensional interactions. The team also encountered Xynar Dominion forces attempting to seize control of the facility, leading to intense confrontations. Despite the challenges, including dimensional rifts and guardian constructs, the crew managed to stabilize the core and secure the area. Reinforcements from the Star Army's First Fleet arrived to establish a defensive position, allowing the YSS Resurgence crew to return to their ship and prepare for further missions.20)

Following their initial exploration of the Concordia Sector's wormholes, the crew of the YSS Resurgence returned to Concordia Station to report their findings to Concordia Sector Operations. A delegation, including Euikoshi, Mineko, and Poppy, met with SAINT liaison Lemeli Sylvan to discuss the mission's outcomes.

During the debriefing, Euikoshi detailed the discovery near Wormhole 1: a planetary system containing a habitable world with an ancient, operational research facility beneath its surface ruins. This facility, estimated to be over a million years old, was maintained by guardian robots and housed containment cells for entities termed “dimensional aberrations,” originating from a dimension known as the “dark aether.” The builders of this facility were referred to as the “Aetherian Progenitors.”

The crew's report emphasized the strategic importance of this discovery, suggesting that further study of the facility and its technology could provide valuable insights into interdimensional phenomena and potential threats. The meeting concluded with plans for continued exploration and collaboration between the YSS Resurgence crew and Concordia Sector Operations to secure and study the ancient site.

In YE 46.8, YSS Resurgence provided assistance to the Norians arriving at Akina System, evacuating surivors from the UNN Taelas and providing medical care to them21)22).

On the final night of YE 46, the crew of the YSS Resurgence gathered aboard their ship, docked at the Central Fleet Depot, to celebrate Yule Night and bid farewell to the year. The wardroom was adorned with a decorated spruce tree, and the atmosphere was filled with festive cheer. Culinary specialists Julix and Rossa prepared a lavish feast featuring turkey, roast beef, ham, and an array of traditional sides and desserts. Caretaker Julia served hot cocoa, while Sakuko offered glasses of wine to the crew.

As they dined, crew members reflected on the year's missions, including rescuing various civilian groups and exploring new territories. Conversations highlighted their shared experiences and the bonds formed through their adventures. The evening was marked by camaraderie, with members exchanging gifts and expressing gratitude for each other's contributions. As midnight approached, they counted down together, welcoming YE 47 with optimism and a renewed sense of purpose for the challenges and missions ahead23).

YE 47

In YE 47.1, following the Yule-Tide holidays, the crew of the YSS Resurgence resumed their mission in the Concordia Sector, focusing on exploring the enigmatic Wormhole 3. Chief Science Officer Kawa Euikoshi identified unusual temporal anomalies and aetheric signatures within the wormhole, prompting the crew to prepare for potential challenges.

As the Resurgence navigated the wormhole, they encountered severe turbulence and disorienting gravitational fluctuations, causing distress among the crew. Upon emerging, they discovered a derelict Progenitor vessel and an aggressive Xynar warship guarding it. Captain Aoba tasked the crew with investigating the derelict to uncover valuable artifacts or intelligence. The away team, donning Mindy power armors, launched towards the derelict under heavy fire from Xynar starfighters. During the assault, Yoshiro sustained critical injuries, necessitating immediate medical attention. Despite the hostile environment, the team managed to infiltrate the Progenitor vessel, setting up a makeshift aid station and preparing to explore further, all while the Resurgence engaged the Xynar forces to secure their mission24).
