SACN [Admirals Only] Star Army Command Chatroom

"The Ninth Fleet can break off an armada-sized group to serve that goal," Kasami said. "We will not require all of our assets to complete our objectives, including securing Xyainbor and solidifying its mining and manufacturing capacity."
 
"Can Task Force Lantern even spare the warships, let alone the ground troops to subjugate the Yuukan system, Shosho?" Kurita asked with some concern. "Five warships and a handful of infantry do not make a very threatening invasion force if the NMX have a squadron of capital ships in the system. My staff is already finalizing plans to deal with the NMX there. Our scout ships are expected back from that system within a few days."

If the Shosho wanted to be first into that system, Kurita would be happy to let her. But not with such a puny force which had no guarantee of success. Twelfth Fleet had nearly complete plans to send one of its three heavy combat arms to the system as a simple first stroke in the campaign. Combat there was expected to be brutal but brief, allowing the new recruits a chance to prove themselves and gain an easy first victory.
 
Yui nodded and updated the whiteboard.

"Which fleet has Tatiana?"
 
Whitmoor cleared his throat for this one, politely taking the chance to speak up again after a bit of contemplative silence while the other admirals spoke and almost haggled over who got to take what.

"The Fifth can take that one, once we've gotten Tami back, I believe. You would like it back mostly intact, if I'm not to be mistaken, and I believe the Fifth fleet is the most properly equipped to retake a developed planet without damaging it too much."

The older Nepleslian man made a slight motion with his shoulders, reminiscent of a shrug, and then stopped talking, as he really had nothing more to say.
 
"I have sufficient force to accomplish Yuukan."

Morioka closed her eyes, apparently gathering herself. After a moment, she re-opened them and continued.

"I apologize for your staff's wasted man-hours. Might their discoveries, when they return, be made available to mine?"
 
"Very well," Yui told Morioka. She turned to Kurita. "HX-11 is close to Yuukan in defenses and would also make a good starter system to battle test your new fleet. What do you think?"
 
"Very well. I shall pass the reconnaissance information to Morioka-kun once it has been processed," Kurita said.
 
"We will reconvene in June. Remember: victory is as much preparation as execution. Good luck everyone."

With that, Yui's image faded from view.

 
Kurita looked at the other admirals still assembled. "Do we have lots of meetings like this?" he asked curiously.
 
Though there were several other more senior admirals present, it was Morioka who answered, "I also find it surprising, Taisho."
 
Three Months Later

The Taishos of the Star Army were once again summoned to a virtual conference space where Yui was standing on a huge map of known space.

"I need updates from everyone. If you have not accomplished your goal yet, I want to know why."

Taisho Kurita begs to report that the HX-11 system is currently under Star Army control.  The system was recovered in May of this year.  At heavy cost in terms of equipment and have been stocking up replacements.  We have only just received the last of which we'll need to maintain such losses on the remaining five systems.  Operations are being planned to commence soon.

The NMX Starport is damaged but repairable. No plans to utilize HX-11 as a forward base. Will leave monitoring equipment in case the NMX try to set up here again. Have launched offensive into neighboring star systems in the Cluster, expect minimal resistance.

The Ninth Fleet's task force under Kasami-chujo has successfully retaken Xyainbor. Additionally, I have rid Tatiana of the Mishhuvurthyar menace per a request from the Fifth Fleet, notably with the assistance of Yamataian citizens driven out at the start of the war.
