Noboru remained in his armor. He looked at the Daisy containing the wounded Neko and contemplated lifting his foot, bringing it down and curb-stomping the bastard child of some mad scientist into the next millenium.

However, he had to follow his duties...

Krasus had just slipped into a Uniform,
"I'm sure she'll be fine, what about you Noboru? You had us scared for a minute there." He said, a frown painting his face.
He might have killed something today.
The thought bothered him, and he couldn't dismiss it. His father had said something once... No, Don't think about him. Don't think about him. He thought, mentally agonizing over the thought of his father.
Despite what he told himself, he became all the more unsettled. He followed Kai, wanting something to distract him.

As Yoroko reflected on the battle that had just been fought she recalled what Noboru had said:

Noboru said:
I don't give a fuck! Let the damn thing die like it should've!

"Ne Noboru," Yoroko sent telepathically "you didn't mean what you said earlier...about the neko, right?" Yoroko looked over at Noboru as she asked.

Devonus had dismounted his armor and disregarded the nude Neko that was Yuril, which usually would have caught his attention, and quickly clothed.

He grabed his sword from the mounting bracket on the armor and looked towards the jeep with Noburo..... Hatred still burned in his chest. Noburo might not know what it was like to lose a freind or comrade, but Devonus did. The very fact that Noburo could disregard one of his allies so easily burned him deep within.

Grant it he had done such things before, but not when there was any chance of saving them. Death was a part of combat, but such wanton disregard of life he loathed.

So it was the still dark anger burning in his chest that Devonus approached the jeep with Noburo. His dark anger penetrating through his calm words against his will.

"Of course he meant it, in his world their freaks.... i can could hear the disgust in his voice when he said it, or should i say thought it..."

At that point an evil Smile crosses face and he leans over to whisper in Noburo's ear.

"But of course your the real freak with those eyes of your arn't you?"

He steps away aand lets a chuckle escape his throat as he finally calms down and regains his composure. He heads over to the other car and motions to the others. He calls out to the other with Noburo.

"Anybody that doesn't feel like riding with a possible Neko killer come with me."

Once everyone was ready, the recruits filed into the vehicles, with Kai, Yoroko, Yuril, Kiyoshi, and Yasuo in one car, and Devonus, Krasus, Kumiko, and Noboru in the other. It was well passed midnight on the ride back to the Fort. The dark sky was lit up from the light of the stars reflecting off the clouds and smoke from the attack. The vehicles had no roof, so the passengers could feel the cool night air blowing past.

Noboru sighed and crossed his arms.

"I meant it. I hate the fact that the things won't lay down and die like they should. Any living thing, or thing that appears to be living, shouldn't be able to crawl around with half of its body cut off. That's my humble opinion, the Star Army can go fuck themselves if they think otherwise."

Suddenly he heard Devonus' comment. Turning his head fast enough that a normal man's neck would've cracked, his hand came up from its position at its side and wrapped around Devonus' neck like the death grip of a full grown alligator.

"Pull a stunt like that again and I swear I'll toss you over the side of this jeep. I dare you." Just to prove he meant business, he pushed hard so that Devonus' head and the nape of his neck over the back of the jeep.

"Everyone just calm down... Noboru, how can you say that, that Nekovalkyrja is a living thing, it can suffer like anything else. One thing people must learn is that Death is a horrible thing. I think it more a sacrifice, to give your life for a cause is noble, and noteworthy, thousands upon thousands of Nekovalkyrja have died for this Empire, for your life to continue, so that we don't live under some Tyrant, interested in only his own power. My father died for the same cause that that valkyrja nearly did. And if Devonus doesn't kick your ass, I will damn sure try. Keep that sort of thing to yourself, and don't disgust us with such an opinion."
Krasus felt odd with his rant going to everyone, he turned to Noboru, giving him the coldest stare he could muster.
Of course, the Nekovalkyrja made him feel uneasy. Knowing that they didn't have childhoods, or any skeletons to hide. They were technically living things, but they were also engineered.

Rage was welling in Noboru now. He was not fond of people picking at his ideals. He turned to Devonus, his cold, monochromatic eyes locking back with a glare that stung like icy daggers.

"Now is not the time for you to be injecting yourself into a private conversation. Something that appears to be alive but isn't isn't. Period."

"Noboru, Let go of Devonus, you two don't need to be butting heads at a time like this. I know we're all tired and you're entitled to your opinions, but, just so we don't all kill you, shut the hell up" Kai sent to the aggrivated Noboru "And, besides, having that body makes you a freaking hipocrite" He added, noting how similar Yamataian and Nekovalkyrja bodies were. Of course, being in a different vehicle, he was safe at least until they got back to the barracks.

"You know, Kai has a point. Yamataian bodies are just toned down neko bodies."Kumiko sent."If you hate nekos, you pretty much hate Yamatai." Even as she said this, she swiveled her head slightly to watch him, being careful of him. "We all need to calm down though, we can discuss this later when we aren't as tired and sweaty," Kumiko said, speaking aloud to try and orient everyone on their bodies again. "We're all tired and aggravated, so cut the fighting, at least for now."

Yoroko's fist clenched in her lap as she rode back to the barracks....
Noboru said:
something that appears to be alive but isn't isn't. Period
Yoroko filled with rage as she heard those words in her head. Not alive?! Yoroko thought What does he think we are? Machines!? Looking in Noboru's direction Yoroko summoned the most pleasant voice she could, "Ne Noboru, you seem stressed and its been a long day, I find that sparring helps release any tension I have after days like this, would you care for a bout after we get back to the barracks? Maybe it would help us both."

"You okay Devonus?" he sent to Devonus, looking at Noboru,
"I agree," he said, hoping that Noboru and Devonus wouldn't start beating the hell out of eachother.
"Just calm down."
"Noboru, it isn't worth getting into a fight for. Your private conversation concerns a species that has given its soul and mind to the Empire"
"Noboru, that 'private' conversation is quiet unnerving to everyone. You will not accept the fact that their hearts are beating, that blood runs through those veins. Each one could fill your job and could do a better job of it." he said, straight up, with no anger or encouragement in his voice.
"A very simple fact is, is that Kumiko or any other NekoValkyrja could beat the living hell out of you- without even trying. Your a recruit. So are we, and if you murder a classmate you damn yourself in everyone's eyes."
He used Kumiko, because she was the only Nekovalkyrja he knew by name.
More than likely that will change he thought.

"I'll agree with that when I see one lay down and die and watch it pool around them, Krasus." Regardless, a sparring match did sound good. He released his grip on Devonus' throat, leaving a series of five purple welts on his neck.

Krasus shook his head,
"You very nearly did." Krasus nudged Devonus with his hand,
"Devonus, you okay? Switch seats with me please."
Devonus was sitting in the middle, Krasus was on the right side, and Noboru on the left.
Krasus took Devonus' sword from his hands, handing it over to Kumiko.
"Keep that safe Kumiko. Just keep driving straight, if anything else happens it would be good if you high-tailed it and bumped Class One's car to get their attention."

Yuril more or less sat in silence during the whole ride, arms crossed over her chest and staring down at the floor. It took a lot to really irritate her, but Noboru's comments during the skirmish... Really, really hit her hard.

The neko was both glad and angry she wasn't in the same jeep as Noboru. On one hand, she was glad for the fact she didn't have the chance to hurt him, but angry also that she couldn't hurt him at the same time. Instead, she decided to just try and ignore it...

... At least, until she had a good opportunity to hurt him, severely, without getting in trouble.

Taking the sword from Krasus, Kumiko laid it down in the seat next to her. "I'll do that, but try not to fight, ok? Calm him down if you can."

"Already Trying" he sent to Kumiko.
Now, unsafely situated between Noboru and Devonus, Krasus talked idlely talked about how to cook Fetuccini Alfredo just right, and of some occasions where it was messed up and no one could eat it, and about some nagging teachers at Home.

The rest of the ride back to the base was uneventful and quiet. A few bullets would fly across the sky at random intervals, but other than that, the sky was empty, with most of the smoke blown away. The ride back took about an hour and the recruits were sent to their barracks once they arrived.

***

At about six in the morning, the instructors did the normal shouting and grenade alarm. "Due to the attacks last night and against my desire, we have decided that you recruits deserve the morning off. If I had it my way, you'd of woken up hours ago and be running! Just be glad I don't make the calls and be in the dining hall at 1200 hours. Dismissed!"
