Beeping could be heard all over. Saki started wonder what did Yoshiro use and where he got it. "Yoshiro-san what did you use on that thing anyway?" she asked via telepathy. She also raised her head and tried to look from behind the boxes.

"It is an EMP bomb. I took it from the soldier that is in that tank. It is going to fry whatever electronics and things that Tankette is using." Yoshiro said to Saki. He was surprised at hearing her in his mind but since he could not use telepathy he answered out loud."I figure that it would be a good idea to remove this threat as soon as possible. In a few more seconds that thing isn't going to be able to do anything and we can kill the NMX soldier inside."

No mercy to our enemies, because they would have none for us.Yoshiro thought to himself. "Don't anyone move until that thing goes off. Be careful though, just because the electronics will be of no use, that doesn't mean that the soldier inside can hurt us!" Yoshiro said.

Saki's eyes widened. Wait a minute? Was here first though after this. The EMP thing that guy way carrying was rather large, not like regular EMP grenade Saki is familiar with. It could probably take out most of their guns. If there are more of enemie in the halls, Saki did not want to fight them with her knife only. But from what Yoshiro said, she did not have a lot of time.

"Shimatta!" she said, which only Keiko could hear. "That EMP bomb will make us defensless you baka!" She then said in open channel and sprang from her hiding place, jumping over a crate. She ran towards the Tankette, trying to get to the bomb. Beeping lead her right to it as she got in back of Tankette trying to run over Toshiro. She was too far to see ho much time is left and she did not know how to disarm that thing. But since it was EMP bomb she figured it was just of bunch of eletronic so she raised her gun and fired a stream of flames that should molten the bomb before it go off. If she was fast enough.

EMP? Well isn't that fine and dandy.

Toshiaki stopped running for a moment and turned to fire at the bomb from cover. He wasn't too confident of hitting it but it was either that or he was down to fists and knives...not a pleasant thought.

Damn. Didn't think of that. I am an idiot! He thought to himself. He was going to get them all killed if he kept up this way. "Saki, keep doing what you are doing and keep that bomb from going off. If that doesn't work we're all in trouble!" He shouted to Saki. "Toshiaki, stop shooting at it! You might set off the bomb prematurely!"

Yoshiro's first command was a disaster and if they survived this he would let one of the others take command. If he kept up like this he would only get the squad killed.Yoshiro, you baka. Think things through next time, so you don't put your squadmates in a dangerous position like this. He said to himself and resolved to do better...if they survived this situation.

Oh, this is quite a mess.

Keiko stayed in cover, there was nothing she could do at this stage that Saki wasn't already doing. Instead she made it her work to observe. While everyone was busy with the EMP bomb something about their current situation could change without them noticing. With her rifle ready, she took a good look around, at the door the just came from, the rest of the hangar and the Tankette's next movement.

Saki's attempt to disarm the bomb did exactly what he thought it would, but not with the same results. The thing that melted down the quickest was one of the exposed wires to the trigger mechanism. Once this wired was melted through and severed, which only took a moment, there was a long tone as the EMP detonated. The next thing the team knew they were back in the open simulation chamber. Ramiro came out a door off to the side.

"Well, at least you realized the mistake before the bomb went off. And don't beat yourself up Saki, the bomb had only a few seconds left, you were already doomed anyways. Once one of the trigger wires was melted through, it set off the EMP, disabling half of the ship. Unfortunately for you this included vital things, such as the airtight seal on the door of the vehicle bay, meaning that even if the door stayed shut, there would be a massive decrease in pressure and you all would have died. Not to mention that you were in the back of the ship, which meant all vehicles, shuttles, ship engines, and anti-mecha turrets were disabled, as well as life-support systems, power, and an assortment of other things. All would have been fried, creating the potential for fire, which wouldn't have been detected by the now nonexistent systems. So essentially, I'm not sure how you would have died, but there's no doubt that you were all doomed. But look on the bright side, you killed the bad guy!"

Yoshiro was angry at himself and it clearly showed on his face. Not only was he responsible for the destruction of the ship, he was also responsible for the death of his teammates. Granted, it was only a simulation but it hurt all the same. He grunted in frustration.

I should have known better! I should have stayed away from the bomb but I had to go and play hero and use the stupid thing. He thought to himself. He stood at attention and listened to what his instructor was saying and waited to be dismissed.

OH yeah great, we killed the badguy. But also ourselves and whole ship. though Saki. She was feeling miserably at the moments. It was damn bad luck that trigger wire melted first. She should have taken command right at the first moments.

She also couldn'T help herself but frown on Yoshiro. But luckily only for a second until she regained herself and looked forward. She then looked back at Ramiro and said. "Sir would heavy blasts from burst rifle or Service pistol damage the tankette?" She asked. She was really intersted since heavy blast from service pistols has almost small grenade-like effect. Would that be enough to damage tankette? She was pretty sure it would. And Burst rifle should be even stronger in theory.

Well, good job Toshiaki. You distracted the tankette long enough to kill everyone. Somehow this casualty ratio doesn't seem favorable.

The fact that the group had eventually come to the right conclusion was cold comfort. Losing one's ship in the process of stopping a boarding is not exactly heroic sacrifice if one was inclined to go that route.

Toshiaki paid close attention to Saki's question. You never knew when you might need to know how to destroy a tankette in close quarters.

All death and we even manage to make the ship inoperative. With these results it might have been less embarrassing to get slaughtered in combat. Keiko thought waiting for the rest of the lecture she was sure would follow.

Still, she felt bad for Yoshiro. Making such a mistake must be extremely hard on him... which was just what Keiko saw on his face.

Ramiro calmly responded to the question, "Yes, in fact, it would. Obviously, the job would be much more effective with anti-armor weaponry, but it would work. The original intent of the simulation was to be forced to infiltrate the tankette, retrieve the EMP, and disable it or get it off the ship. I purposely did not provide anti-armor weaponry for a specific reason. There is one final lesson behind this simulation, and it's one of the most important lessons that you can learn as infantry. The loss of your life is insignificant as long as the mission is accomplished. Also, there is a secondary lesson of evaluating your objective. Something that all of you failed to realize was that eliminating the hostiles was a secondary objective, once the EMP came on the scene the primary objective was protecting the ship, whether the hostiles escape or not is insignificant if the ship is destroyed in the process. And back to the lesson about life, remember that losing your life is not important at all. Any Yamataians or Nekos will have memory backups, so losing your life doesn't matter as long as the objective is completed." Ramiro paused to let this sink in before continuing.

"Now, as every good instructor, I need to provide alternatives solutions for the simulation. Starting off with the potentiality that the assailant had made it into the tankette with the EMP, you guys were in the vehicle bay, and thus you could have gotten into a separate vehicle to disable the EMP. If worst comes to worst and there were 20 seconds left and no possibility of disabling the EMP, I would have instructed the bridge to prep hyperspace fold to any location, and opened the vehicle bay door, throwing you guys into the vacuum of space, and enabling the ship to get away. Yes, all of the equipment in the bay would have been lost, but the value of the vehicles is a lot less than that of the vehicles and the ship. Also, the moment they got into the vehicle, you should have alerted the bridge, and informed them of the situation, because they may have chosen to send additional personnel with anti-armor weaponry. This possibility wasn't an option due to the limited time, but there was always the possibility of going to the armory and getting heavier weapons. The point is, before every situation you must evaluate your main priorities, and you must learn of the inconsequential value of your life."

Instuctror didn't tell Saki anything new. She already knew that her life exist only so she can complete her missions. She just hated this dying uselessly. If you die and it will help your mission, then the death has a meaning of sorts. But this was just death because stupid mistakes done by them all.

The things that the instructor said, Yoshiro took to heart. It had been a rouhg ordeal but if he had actually thought things through there would have been less of a chance to have destroyed the ship. He was still frustrated and wanted to say something but he thought better of it. He was angry and not at anyone but himself so he checked himself before he could say anything that he regretted.

"I will remember that for next time, sir." He said, knowing that if the same situation were to present itself in this same way he would be able to handle it differently.

Ramiro's lecture turned out to be quite informative for the young soldier Keiko. She evaluated her actions and plans during the mission and found herself to be incredibly narrow minded.

With a bit more of creativity a whole different battle would have been fought and the results of the exercise would have been totally different.

And most importantly... I have to learn that not taking risks might be even more dangerous that playing it safe.

Dieing for the Star Army. Well I can't say they didn't warn me before hand. Good to see it happen in simulation first though.

Toshiaki was annoyed with himself that he hadn't realized the implications of the EMP earlier. He wanted to be a part of SAINT and this wasn't the kind of thing you could miss there.

Ramiro's lecture had been a bit humbling, but it also helped Toshiaki think of different tactical possibilities.

That is point of training after all.

Ramiro sighed and looked around at his small group of students before shaking his head a little bit and grinning. "You guys need to loosen up. It's just a simulation, next time you'll have experienced military personnel leading you, and you did an excellent job for a bunch of Yonto's! Never forget what you've learned during your time here. Never forget that the fate of many depends on you, and you aren't going to give the confidence by moping around and feeling sorry for yourself. Always be vigilant, always be prepared, always do the best the you can do, no less. Now, get to bed, you've got a big day tomorrow, wake up is 0600, make sure to pack your things. I'll see you tomorrow for graduation."
