RP: Cirrus Station [Episode 9] The Silver Lining

It didn't matter if Miss Popjoy was deemed "friendly" or not, Tweak still didn't like being touched, but she held her reaction to pull away in check. What kind of 'improvements'? She didn't have time to vocalize the question before Cassefin took her turn at commenting.

Tweak blushed faint pink at the compliment -- at least that comment confirmed she worked here, at most it let her know her work was appreciated by the administration -- but then her face returned to being white as she balked. Cassefin wanted to come along?!

"But-but-but...!"

This was getting crowded. From three people to five (not counting herself), and most of them were the reason she was dressed the way she was to begin with! Tweak tried to hang back and wait for the group to pass her, glancing at Claire with a pleading look.

Blake blushed slightly after Kokuten's comment and moved forward to stand directly next to him as he spoke. "Why, Captain, you're the one with the exotic eyes." He managed to say, a nervous smile creeping up his face. His eyes focused on the Captain's for a moment, taking in the eyes again. I must capture this rare prosthetic in a way which depicts its beauty. The combination of form and function is so magnificent, and the colors! His thoughts began to trail on in that fashion for a while before he snapped back to the moment. There was a troubled woman in need of help. She was attractive, and therefore doubly vulnerable to being mistreated by men. There was no end to the potential problems she might face. Blake snapped forward again, remembering that she just wanted help within the store.

"I'm sure that there's a way we can help you... or maybe we could direct her to Mr. Weathersby if we can't," Blake suggested. His finger was tucked into the neck of his pullover, fidgeting with the shape which was seeming tighter and tighter.

"The guy seems to know everything about this place."

"Woah now. I just wanted to take Tweak and Ms. Popjoy along, but I don't know about this turning into a clothing convoy." Claire placed on hand on her hip while the other rubbed gently at her forehead. She took a slow breath and tried to address each person one at a time.

Popjoy, thankfully, was just enthusiastic and perhaps was even hinting at what Claire wanted to find for Tweak rather than what they needed. Then again, it was likely wishful thinking. "Of course we can all use improvements, but try to go easy on her... she's a bit shy if you haven't already noticed." For all that Claire wanted to get something flashy or attention-getting for Tweak, she was at least considering how the spacer felt and was willing to excersize restraint. For herself and maybe Purina though? There was no such limits.

Cassefin's reaction didn't suprise Claire at all. Her desire to come with them and the subtext that it was more than her usual obsessive spying did suprise the Geshrin. She would wait to comment on that bit though... "Cassie, you've got nothing on what we can purchase... only what we can WEAR. If she wants to buy something that'll make her feel sexy underneath all the layers of clothing she wears back at the station, she can. Besides, I already have several things in my possession that'd violate your dress code if I wore just those items, but we're all smarter than that." She was teasing, obviously, as practically anyone's undergarments by themselves would technically be in violation of the dress code, but she just enjoyed playing with Cassefin's likely unrestrained imagination.

As for George and Lenny... Claire's smile faded. Their motives were fairly transparent and she really wasn't in the mood to put up with it. "I don't think I should have to tell you that this is shopping trip only for the ladies. I don't care what your excuse is, I'm not going to put up with either of you." There was a pause and a sigh. "Course... I can't tell you where to go. But if you try anything..." She couldn't finish the threat she wanted to give, not with her boss around. But the fact remained that she wasn't going to make it easy for them to catch a peek of Tweak.

The lady smiled along with Kokuten and Blake's hospitality in humoring her request. "Well, my question isn't so much a request for help as it is a request for your preference," the woman spoke, her tone and mannerisms very polite and proper. All things considered, she seems much more refined than the common woman the two men would normally come across in their profession.

"You see, I am here looking for a gift for a friend of mine," the woman explained, entwining her fingers together in front of her as she spoke. Her auburn eyes glanced between the two of them as she continued. "I know that he enjoys smoking, but to be honest I know very little about the hobby myself. I overheard the two of you talking and you sound like you know a lot about things of this nature. Do you think you can help me find something?"

---

"Whoa, chill out Winters," George waved his hands dismissively in front of him. He hadn't anticipated Claire getting so involved so quickly... George looked at Lenny for a moment as he quickly switched his tactics. "We ain't gonna follow ya into the girly store. There's probably a place for me an' Lenny on the same floor is all, right old man?" the shifty-looking Nepleslian explained shakily before looking over at Mr. Weathersby for confirmation. The aged gentleman nodded once along with George's inquiry. "There are several men's clothing stores on the same floor, yes." George looked back at Claire with a weak smile. "Yeah... see?"

As Purina squealed in delight in anticipation, Cassefin crossed her arms and wrenched her lips to the side in awkward defeat. Her alibi for following them had been much more thing than she had hoped, but never the less the red-haired lady seemed intent on following them... if nothing else, to perhaps save face by at least pretending to do what she had told them. "I know what my rules are, Winters. I'm just wary of the temptations inherent in buying clothing that serves no functional purpose other than... seduction and... other scandalous behavior," Cassefin floundered around a bit, trying her best to convince those present of her pure motives. "I do not presume to know what Tweak does off duty, but... I would still like to come to make sure everything... turns out alright."

Even Purina had to do her best not to crack a smile at Cassefin's adamant adherence to her story. The Head Administrator began to turn a little red in the face before grunting in frustration. "Whatever, if we're going to go, let's stop standing around and go," Cassefin fumed as she began to make her way towards the set of elevators. George and Lenny took that as their cue to approach the entrance to the large building, and Purina nodded once, taking a few steps ahead of the rest of the group and turning to wait for them to follow along.

Kokuten stiffened a bit, the urge to keep his stance and character becoming more overpowering in the presence of this woman. The Doctor looked up at the ceiling for the moment in thought, before looking over at Blake. His expression seemed to ask for an opinion, but the Captain looked back over at the woman before the other man could respond verbally.

"Do you know what the fellow usually smokes?" asked Kokuten, on hand behind his back. The other hand was in front of his chest, the polished fingers twirling the blunt.

This was not working. Claire had done what she could outside of physical deterrents and everyone was still going, so all Tweak could do was hang her head as she followed everyone into the elevator. She boarded last, wedging herself into one of the corners closest to the door and trying not to think of how close the lift was to its load limit.

While waiting for someone to input their destination and for the lift to arrive at that destination, the 'Spacer neko considered the situation again. Direct evasion was fruitless, not without abandoning Claire, which she wasn't really wanting to do...but it was still an option. So all she could do now was go with it, hope for the best, and try to get it over with quickly. After all, there was one place on the map that had sounded like fun...

"Thank you Weathersby!" said the Id-Sol as he exited the landing pad, heading down to the top floor, scouring the building for bars. Stovaa was a hard-drinkin' man. He'd spend a great amount of time in bars throughout his homeworld, travelling and boozing. He was going to try and drink in everywhere he could find that served alcohol with no repetition until he had been in everywhere. Then, he planned to hit the casino and blow a few weeks wages on whatever he could gamble at. Poker, craps, blackjack, scrabble, monopoly or even Quidditch. This stood to be a pretty interesting night, he reckoned.

"Just hope that, if I sleep with anyone, it doesn't seriously affect my career in the military," he thought aloud in the elevator. "Like, uh, Cassefin. Or Purina. I wouldn't mind Claire again... unless that was a dream."

He stepped out onto the floor, sniffed the air and wandered off, in search of sweet nectar.

Blake didn't hesitate to advise the woman.

"Get him one of THESE!" he shouted; shoving Kokuten to the side, "It's so beautiful, and it smells so nice!"

Blake held the Penuletto's Black Magic up to the woman with both hands. He didn't want to hold it too close to her, lest she remove it from his hands and rob him of his precious discovery. In fact, he decided to remind her that this one was already claimed, "But get your own, lady. There's plenty more in the humidor. This one chose me to smoke it and I know in my soul I will. And then I'll paint. Yes, I'll paint beautiful pictures which incense the user to find both the male and female forms beautiful without putting any Nepleslian girlie-magazine gutter trash on them."

His tone had transformed from a growl to a cheery bounce as he began to describe his artwork in detail. His vision was more detailed then his review of the cigar and by the time he was done talking, he had forgotten entirely about it. Soon, he remembered the cigar in his hands and caught himself. "Ahem, this is all to say: Buy this cigar, it's a beautifully made cigar and it has the aroma of a fine stout tobacco with the added tinge of thin, delicate herbal additives. There's no better smoke in this store," he paused, "...and it'll probably get him pretty high, too. Sorry I pushed you, Captain."

Blake patted Kokuten's arm where he had shoved and smoothed out the ruffled up fabric with a smile.

Kokuten cleared his throat as he recovered himself, throwing a disappointed gaze in Blake's direction while he did so, the LED's flashing a frustrated red. The Captain was a navy man as much a Marine, and he knew how to keep his footing, but his arms tended to throw his balance awry. At any rate, with his balance restored, he resumed his firm posture.

"And what if he does not like Penulettos, Morris? This is a gift we are talking about, a certain amount of thought must play along with it." reprimanded Kokuten, "We can't just offer such an eccentric suggestion without hearing about the person who will receive it."

Then, he thumped Blake's ear.

"And don't be rude to the young woman, Morris. She has been very polite to us and such outbursts are fairly ungentlemanly."

"Yes yes, let's go. Just..." Claire was about to say 'behave yourselves' but then that would be rather hypocritcal of her, considering all the ways she wanted to tease Tweak and Cassefin. She fully planned on dragging along Cassefin in particular for shopping around any 'intimates' sections.

That said, the presence of George and Lenny put a slight damper on her mood considering she couldn't just forget about them and stop keeping her eye on them. She of course didn't trust George for a second in anything he says, though to be honest she didn't believe Lenny was capable of such thoughts anyway.

The raven-haired woman merely laughed shortly at the exchange between Kokuten and Blake. "Well... I am unsure really, about his preferences," she proclaimed. "I know that he only seems to smoke the thicker ones... and not the smaller ones. The cigarettes?" The woman asked, her lack of knowledge in the field either very apparent or greatly exaggerated. She began to shake her head, however, as she turned to Blake. "Although, I'm pretty sure he doesn't smoke to get... high? I'm sorry, sir. Do either of you have any other suggestions?"

As Stovaa stepped out of his own elevator, the floor itself opened into a vastly different setting than what the outside had portrayed. The entire floor was a casino in and of itself, the lobby that Stovaa had entered from exiting the elevator being a center point of the floor itself, housing an enormous white marble fountain. The immediate area around the large central lobby stretched on for what seemed to be forever, rows upon rows of slot machines, playing tables manned by dealers with delightfully white smiles, and several other methods of throwing ones money away.

Although it would appear that the overall theme of the casino itself seemed to be aquatic in nature along with the rest of the establishment, the secondary theme of gold seemed to be most prominent. Nearly everything was splashed in lustrous golden color, from the enormous card tables and open bars, down to the very chips being gambled with, which were fashioned to look like large golden coins of varying values. Although it was doubtful that everything was made of gold, the designers of the floor seemed to have done a wonderful job of making it seem as though one would be lucky enough to walk out with a handful of the precious metal.

---

For the rest of the group, the floor opened up to the same oceanic sight that Kokuten and Blake had experienced, seeing as though both groups were now on the same floor. A short venture in the opposite direction, however, would lead the large group of young ladies to their destination... the Sea Angel. Before entering, however, George and Lenny stayed true to their previously-mentioned agenda and broke off from the group, to George's slight and well-hidden dismay and Lenny's oblivious delight.

Sea Angel opened from the aquatic, fish-filled main hall into a large room lined with multicolored corals along the walls. The ceiling of the store was a bit higher than the others, most likely designed so for the true attraction of the store; several volumetric projectors positioned on the ceiling created a swarm of large, jellyfish-like creatures. These 'sea angels' swam through the air above the heads of the patrons as they browsed through the store, life-like in detail and vivid in their variety of colors, shapes and sizes. The store itself sold a variety of fine clothing aimed towards ladies who were looking for a more whimsical look, rather than the super-fashionable or formal. Dresses (thankfully in a variety of colors other than blue), hats, shoes... the full variety of womanly apparel for a lady looking to regally impress without spending an arm and a leg.

While Cassefin wasn't too thrilled with the spectacles and choice of clothing (her own clothing apparently bought at a much higher price), Purina couldn't decide where to split her attention between the floating spectacles or multitude of designer name dresses.

Kokuten held up the thick cigar nestled between his fingers, wiggling it to get the woman's attention. The label of the happy face about to eat the sandwich seemed very apparent, wagged back at forth.

"To tell you the truth, Reubens are a personal favorite of mine. The tobacco is grown, fermented, and hand rolled in the plains of the Reuben Province on Kennewes. Arguably, these cigars are probably the truest of any Kenn smoke." explained the Captain, eying the delightful looking tobacco-product in his hand. "Indeed, when you light this cigar, you not only get the scent of the rich tobacco that it is made, but you take in the very essence of the province itself. You could close your eyes, and pick out each individual scent exuding off the smoke, each one reminiscent of the homeland that they came from. The famous deli's, the roving grasslands dotted by a wetland here-there, and the every-day of it's people somehow masterfully rolled and represented through one cigar."

Kokuten sighed, and gave a gentle glance to the woman. The color of eyes had slowly melted to a light blue color, a relaxed and rather nostalgic look.

"Though it is fairly expensive, I believe it is worth near every DA spent."

George and Lenny's departure from the group was noticed by the nervous neko, but George did a fine job of hiding his disappointment at the forced split. Even so, Tweak did get the feeling that he had some sort of interest in her, judging from both from his awkwardly-presented request to come along and from notes on past encounters she'd made since the Sunny Side Up resort.

Maybe he was lonely. But he has a friend, she thought to herself. After some thought, though, she shook her head. You can't have too many friends...Pause. ...can you? Maybe one could have many friends, but not keep everyone's company at the same time? I hope so, she concluded, making a discrete increase in her pace to keep up with Claire and the others.

The store was...different. As an engineer, Tweak was impressed by the way the store used tech to decorate the place. A few cycles through her vision modes identified the emission frequencies of the volumetrics and enabled her TacOpSys to track the projections to their emitters. It was a rather beautiful sight to see the dancing lights that flickered imperceptibly to the normal patrons as the simulated creatures drifted serenely between projectors, barely overhead...

As a visitor? Even as one who had never known anything but the interior of a space station and never had a record of anything aquatic or of anything that could be called "natural beauty" without necessitating an appreciation of the more "raw" aesthetics of a sinkhole and the desolation inside it...even without that experience she knew this was beautiful. Tweak's dark red eyes were as wide as those of a child visiting an aquarium for the first time. She was not even looking at the clothing around her as they went deeper into the store, entranced by the 'swimming' creatures above.

The woman nodded her head slowly along with Kokuten's very detailed explanation, her apparent fascination on the subject piqued with the wealth of knowledge the squad captain had. "My word, you certainly seem to know a lot about these sorts of things," she replied in a proper tone at the end of his speech, lightly brushing her hair off to the side with a single, slender hand. "I must admit, I do not understand all of the concepts perfectly... but you sound sure, so I believe I will take your advice."

The clerk behind the desk, already having overhead their discussion, had prepared a small box of the aforementioned cigars. The two of them had a short exchange of words, most likely the raven-haired lady confirming her identity for a credited transaction to the clerk. Upon finishing her purchase, the woman placed the box in the small black hand bag around her shoulder. "I'm sure he will like these; after all, it's the thought that counts, or so I've heard. Thank you very much for your help..." the lady began with a small smile, but faltered a bit upon reaching the end of her sentence. "Ah, what shall I call you two?"

---

As entranced by the dancing lights as she was, Purina was quick to change her attention from the natural beauty to the captivatingly artificial. The pink-haired administrator practically dove into the clothing racks, wading through the roiling waves of fabric for mere minutes before emerging from the ocean of clothing. The enthralled woman trotted up to the distracted neko, a rather short sherbet-orange dress in hand, and without much warning pressed the article against Tweak's front.

"I think this would look fantastic, Miss Tweak!" Purina practically squealed in delight as she checked the size against the neko's frame. "You're always wearing such dull colors, something a little brighter would most certainly improve your appearance!"

Cassefin, whom had taken a seat in one of the leather-lined chairs near the dressing room, looked on tentatively at Purina and Tweak. For the moment, however, the red-haired administrator showed little interest in commenting on Purina's choice; it certainly didn't hold a candle to Cassefin's own ensemble in any fashion, after all.

"My name? Oh!" went Kokuten, as his eyes flashed in the realization that he had even introduced himself. With that he gave a short, respectful bow of his head to the regal, raven-haired woman. "I am Kokuten Gaiasis Chiaki the 5th, a pleasure." The Captain then gestured to the man next to him, "This friend of mine is..." He cut himself off to let Blake introduce himself.

"Morris, Blake Morris. Nepleslian Care Corps Private Third Class!" Blake smiled wide as he related his rather impressive (in his opinion) title to the woman. He also turned to smile at Kokuten, as if to signify his thanks for the consideration.

"We're buying stuff to smoke, too." He added, an air of childish pleasure in his tone.

Absorbed in watching the floating projections, Tweak stumbled back a step as Purina suddenly appeared in front of her and pressed something against her front. A pink tint grew on her normally pale cheeks, the effect almost hidden by the light reflecting off the bright dress. The blush only darkened at Purina's comment, which made the neko stammer a bit before giving up trying to say anything and settling for shaking her head "no". Then she realized what the clothing was and tried to speak again.

"I-I-I-..." Another failure. She stared down at the dress, backing up a bit to look at it. It was pretty...But it's too short, I can't wear that! Tweak found herself taking the hanger anyway. Maybe...it wouldn't hurt to try it on. She didn't have to buy it.

She turned around and walked away from the dressing rooms (how she had ended up there she didn't know) and into the sea of clothing racks without another word, looking for something.

"Ah... such strong surnames. My name is Odette," the raven-haired lady introduced herself with a soft smile and nodded her head to each of them. "Chiaki and Morris... it is a pleasure to meet you both" the raven-haired lady nodded her head to each of them in a tender fashion. As her head rose again, her two amber eyes exchanged glances between the both of them as she began to speak again. "You both have helped me in a much greater deal than you may think. If I may, I wish to reward the both of your for your assistance."

"Oh, no reward is necessary, Ms. Odette, I was glad to help!" said Kokuten, waving his hand off. The smile on his face showed his appreciation for the gesture, but the true reward would be the delayed gratification of smoking the cigar he had been longing for for so long. Though... It was something to consider what she was offering as a reward. A dinner? Two Reubens? Perhaps an invitation to some fancy shindig that would give Kokuten the opportunity to meet someone influential enough to get him a more suiting job.

"I can't really imagine anything you could give me for a reward that I don't already have," Blake followed up to Kokuten's reply, "I've got money and stuff. I guess I could stand to find a beautiful person to sleep with tonight, if you knew of anyone searching for a one-night mate. I've been rather lonely on Cirrus Station."
