Khasidel's Art Dump

I know I haven't been here for three months, thus I am supposed to be unable to contribute new races or stuff like that to the site yet. This first image is drawn in anticipation for the time when I will be allowed, further down the line (assuming I am still around :) ). Until then, I'm just going to continue drawing more images and fleshing out the civilizations background and other important details so that it might eventually be found acceptable when I present it for the approval / refusal process.

I've got to have something to do between posts ;) .

This ones an example of a Vasurah officer, tentatively named Aria.

Haven't decided entirely on the specifics of the races physiology yet; I'm mainly thinking along a mixture of reptilian-mammalian or amphibian-mammalian traits. The glowing spots are due to natural bio-luminescence (like firefly's); gotta love glowing in the dark. :D

This image is also an example of the standard ship-board uniform, with the base color indicating division (ie command, engineering, security etc), and the secondary color indicating rank. In this case, black = command and gold = captain equivalent rank. Though this is subject to change further down the line.

The panels also glow in the dark, and the forearm pieces are supposed to support holographic ship interfaces.

On a side note, this took about a whole day for me to draw because I suck at drawing by hand and I don't own the proper tools... drawing entirely by mouse in photoshop sucks great black hairy $(#*#.

I'll probably add more images to this thread intended for use in the races wiki articles once I get around to drawing them. I'm also refreshing my google sketch-up skills in order to make some good ship and vehicle models.

'nough said for now.

EDIT: Re-uploaded the image with the line-work at 60% opacity to make it easier on the eyes.

That's what it was called! Or Technoman in the english version, I think. I remember watching that when I was a really little kid.

That's probably where I got most of the inspiration for this species. The T-visor shape and the ears are definitely reminiscent of that anime.

I couldn't remember the name of that show until just now - I wonder if I can find some episodes of it :D

@Abwehran Commander: I was thinking about Guyvers! I don't like the Guyver franchise (I'm a more "reals" instead of "supers" mecha fan and I don't), but I do like this art and I don't think it is that close to either design other than being a sharp looking mechanoid with glowing separated eyes.

@Khasidel: you, sir, are awesome. I think it's a solid design and well executed. The glow-bits are a nice touch and the face says "Serious Business" and is kind of scowl-like. The "hair" is an interesting touch (what's the fluff behind it?).

Alright, here's the final version of the character which i'm presently calling 'Quan'. She's the leader of 'the Eternal'. (I say 'she' as the character is programmed to emulate a feminine personality, though obvious being a machine it is without gender). I also added some script to the character's chassis to make it seem more ancient and alien.

The Eternal are a race of sentient artificial intelligences left behind by an apparently extinct alien species - originally used for cheap labor, soldiers, and other menial tasks, they've since evolved and developed their own society and culture -- loosely based around that of their progenitors. For the present I'm planning that they call an incomplete dyson sphere, 'Ta'kaiyu', their home -- a project which they have continued to work on for thousands of years even after their original creators have disappeared.

@Wes: To be honest, the hair tendrils a there mostly for aesthetics, but I'm planning on explaining them away as a means of directly interfacing with other technology, ie recharging, controlling vehicles etc.

Spent a good portion of today finally working on some models for the SX / NMX. Managed to finish the model for a Mishhu Star Fortress. Below you can see the model in the more traditional NMX color scheme, plus the color scheme I was planning to utilize for the SX before I realized in makes it look too much like the Shivan race from the Freespace PC game series.

The third image without the glow is an example of how the station can reconfigure to become a kind of siege weapon -- the exact specifics of which i'm still thinking about... some kind of extreme-range anti-fleet / planetary bombardment array.

I like this! You are creating some great stuff here.

It's been busy at work lately so I haven't had much time to work on any modelling until around now... and then I pretty much sat fiddling with Google sketch-up for the entire day.

As least I finally got to finishing some of the interiors for Murasaki Keiretsu ships that I started way, way back... specifically a small starship bridge and the standard corridor concept.

... now I definitely need to post some replies to the RP threads I'm in...

Whoa! I'm always impressed by your creations. This is really awesome. Love it!

It's been awhile since I posted anything in this thread :3

Been playing around with Kerkythea -- a rendering program that can be paired with the 3D modelling program Google Sketchup which I mostly use. Used it to try and render one of my latest ship models with a few random realistic metal textures. The lighting and reflection difference is pretty nifty and the output is more high-res, though some of the detail lines get lost in the translation because of the way I made the model. I also could add lighting directly to the model within Kerkythea and make parts of it glow more realistically in there, though I refrained from doing so at the moment because that drastically increases the rendering time from a few minutes into the hours range.

The following is a WIP model created by Adamkop, who I've commisioned to create some images in an attempt to recreate the giant mothership-esque yamataian starship I made in sketch-up a while back but lost when my computer died. It's a bit expensive doing it this way, but I've not the patience or the free time available to actually make the ship again myself and it's easier just to pay someone better at modelling than me to do it. Fortunately Wes saved one of the earlier high-res WIP pics of my model and there were a couple of low-res pics still in this thread that Adamkop could use as references for the work.

It's coming along quite well so far and when it's done I imagine it will end up looking better than my version did to begin with :D

Nice. I'd use it as my flagship over the stuff we've got.

Totally sweet! Adam is one of the most prolific spaceship makers on DeviantArt and I'm glad to see you're working with him. I really appreciate you helping with the funding too. A properly 3D modeled ship certainly has a visual advantage over the simple shapes of DOGA.

Now you got me thinking of a neo-Plumeria commission too lol.

Spent a few hours today throwing together a work-in-progress cruiser / plotship concept which I'm presently calling the Naginata-Class (Which I believe translates as a kind of polearm or spear). Haven't decided yet just how big I want her to be -- a light cruiser would probably be best for a plotship, but I'm also considering making it a battlecruiser because the SA doesn't exactly have a ship of that type yet.

Only the front of the ship is even remotely done -- the back has no detailing, engines and the turrets are all placeholders. The smaller turrets at the front are also place holders -- need to design a new anti-armor turret to go with the model.

I admit I got lazy and mostly just recolored the anti-ship turrets from my freighter concept for this. I like how it looks though :P .

I've partially based this on the Plumeria-class, though instead of an over-under array at the front, I'm toying with an idea for a three-pronged main cannon that uses the nose and the wings of the ship, giving it a somewhat trident-like look.
