RP: UCS Zenpyou [Mission 1] Blackened Wings

Ai thought this through for a moment. It certainly wasn't good that it was two brand new officers, fresh out of the Academy, to do this mission. Okay, so what to do?

'If you're sure, Natsu-chan, I can't stop you....'

"Okay, so. We're going to have the shuttle take off, perhaps stay somewhere hidden, or maybe back to the Zenpyou. We don't need to endanger it. This means we won't have a quick way back out of something goes wrong. From there, we'll head inside and have Wavrian re-seal the door, though perhaps not fully. We need to protect any civilians inside from any pirates that should come a long, so an open and inviting door isn't the best idea."

Ai paused, as she thought over the next part.

"From there, we'll start off as one group. We'll check for civilians and see if there's a problem here in the first palce. They could have just fled inside if pirates attacked. If something is wrong or perhaps civilians aren't present or something, we'll need to find that jamming source. Needless to say, everyone stay on your guard. Even if there are civilians, and they do appear to be civilians, pirates could be masquarading."

'How was that?' she telepathically asked Natsuko.

Zero looked at Ai and nodded and turned the jamming net against the users of it. But pushing his Tenshi's sensors the most they could sustain, he'd try to find the source of the strongest interference. It made sense to him that the jamming would be stronger in that direction. "Look for the direction where the jamming's worse, that's the way to the source."

"Mmm, seemed good to me." Natsuko responded to Ai before falling in behind the Sub-Lieutenant. Unconsciously Natsuko gripped the handle of her pistol, not that it would do much if combat broke out between armored forces.

****

Zero's efforts to triangulate the position of the jammer were partially successful. His AI located a small building near the opposite edge of the dome that seemed to have the heaviest amount of interference to his tests.

Wavrian got work on getting everything back into place and firmly re-attaching the panel of the wall that he'd cut out, even going so far as to smooth it over as best he could. If the pirates had engineers like him, he figured that he'd at least give the opposition a challenge, assuming that they weren't prepared with hacking equipment, or willing to do something more brash, like blowing the door in. He could only hope.

Hopefully, with all of his care and effort, the door would be ready and good as new, all set to be locked up again from the inside once everyone was through.

Karasu continued following Zero and scanning their surroundings for any sign of movement. Shuttle leaving... good tactically speaking, everyone in a PA can easily fly to where ever the shuttle waits. But what is going on here. Wish we heard something from the interrogations of the people we got off that ship. If this was just a simple pirate raid, then where are the bodies.... where is the blaster damage from a fight... I can't believe that the colony would not have fought against the pirates, at their security people would have. Instead it just looks like everyone left. But to where?" She thought.

Roken followed the others further into the colony keeping an eye on the rest of the squad as they continued down the corridor. He kept his guard up, eyes scanning the corridor and surrounding buildings his thoughts would wander to what they all saw when they landed in the colony: Tools left behind, no signs of a fight, sealed door and now a weak jamming signal. Roken pushed the thought aside as he moved further towards the town hall.

Zero gestured to the others and pointed toward the direction his sensors were picking up the most interference. Apparently it didn't effect his visual field so he could see clearly through the helmet's visor and and began to head in that way. Keeping his weapon at the ready as he moved. "Probably fled to some secured bunker or safe room when the pirates first landed to minimize casualties." he said. "And as for the lack of scorch marks and combat signs, maybe the pirates had internal help?" he suggested as he headed for the small building.

The engineer made a quick sweep of the outside before darting into the structure after the rest of the squad and sealing the door. He hustled to catch up with the others, slowing down once they were in sight. He kept back a short ways, sweeping his scanners back and forth around the wider area that they were in. What sort of a place was this colony?

Ai stood by, inside the dome. It was just a matter of closing the door then proceeding, cautiously, to where the jamming was.

She breathed deeply, trying to remain calm. So much stress. She didn't want her teammates' blood on her hands. No, she couldn't mess this up, especially with Natsuko there. Natsuko was just as experienced as Ai was, so hopefully they could catch each other's mistakes.

As Wavrian walked behind the group he thought he saw something odd sticking out around the corner of a building at about stomach level. It was hard to tell what it was from the distance he was away but it definitely wasn't a natural feature of the building.

Everyone else slowly descended on a small brown building. From the exterior it appeared to be a regular building except for the keypad on the front door. Unlike most other keypads in the colony that the team had passed this one was unlocked though the door was still shut.

Zero approached the keypad and blinked, and immediately hefted the rifle and used a freehand to activate the pad to open the door. "This one's open, proceeding with caution." He reported back to Ai and Natsuko and waited for the door to admit him inside. "This one is the only one that's unlocked..what is going on here."

Wavrian focused on the odd, stomach-height object, quietly marking it and staying still. "There isss something strange over thisss way," he said, motioning with a slight nudge of his shoulder. "Small, unidentifiable object around the corner of a building. Requesting permission to investigate."

Karasu moved to the side of the door Zero was opening opposite the keypad. Standing in front of the door seems a really bad idea to me. she thought. She stood with her back to the wall and her weapon up and ready. "Careful Cross, seems a bit convenient to me. I've got your back."

"Okay. Peacekeeper Techard, join Wavrian and investigate. Cross and Gin, proceed inside with caution. All four of you, be careful and cover you partner," Ai said over the intercom. What was she going to do though? She should be going to help one or the other group, but Natsuko needed some protection.

"I'll be on stand-by to assist should either group needs it. Let's hope I don't have to help."

Roken followed Wavrian to investigate the object in question. “Understood, lets check it out,” he said as he carefully kept his eyes open for anything else that could be over there. He quickly glanced at the others getting ready to enter the room and hoped that It would not be a trap, with only a few of them inside the eerily quiet colony and no real map the enemy has a slight advantage over them.

The door to the building slid opened and revealed a small scale power plant. From wall to wall the building was lined with energy producing equipment with a small space in the center where a chair and terminal sat. Underneath the terminal a missing panel revealed a mass of cords inside the machine.

---------------------

Natsuko had found herself a place to lay low but still provide cover fire if it became necessary. "It's too quiet in here Ai." Natsuko was suddenly getting a bad feeling about being unarmored. Maybe I'm just imagining it. Natsuko thought to herself.

---------------------

As the pair approached the device details became clearer about it's construction. The device looked like it was an impromptu explosive device, the part that stuck out looked like an antenna of some kind.

Zero went into the room quickly, sweeping around with his Pacifier rifle to make sure that nobody was in there. His sensors were unable to be used thanks to the intense jamming signals in the room. "It looks like it's clear so far. Just be careful, Karasu," Cross said and looked over the central control terminal and quickly turned around and blinked at the missing panel. "Hmm?" He blinked and knelt down slowly and to examine it and carefully look through the wires. "An open panel.." he reported that to Natsuko.

Wavrian's eyes went wide as recognition kicked in. He stood stock-still, trying to speak clearly and calmly. "Engineer Wavrian reporting on our investigation. The device appearsss to be an improvised explosive of some sort. Judging by the appearance, I believe that it may be remote-activated. Keeping my distance and requesting instruction." His voice wavered a bit, though he hoped that he could keep it from cracking. He had half a mind to run away from the thing and half of one to run up, crack it open and try to figure it out.

The sight of the remote explosive made Roken freeze in his tracks. “If it's operated by remote you better decide quickly because I don't think my luck is gonna hold out if I have to experience another up close explosion,” Roken said as his eye scanned the area, not wanting to try that on the bomb itself worried that it could be sensitive seeing how it's not exactly a military built weapon and more like something put together creatively. Don't blow up... was all Roken could think about as he double checked to see if the bomb was connected or receiving any kind of signal.

Gin followed Zero into the room. Like Zero she noticed the missing panel and the wires portruding. Since Zero was at the moment looking at the mass of cords, Gin took a look at the console itself, to see what its purpose was, and the status of it. Sabotage, cobbled repairs, or attempting to make the panel do something else, were all possibilities, she thought.
