RP: UCS Zenpyou [Mission 1] Blackened Wings

Roken hesitated for a moment, looking back at the building Zero and Gin were in before giving a quick glance to Natsuko's position and giving her a nod as he lifted off in the direction where Ai went. Give us a yell if things get hot near you.

Roken remained alert, the silence was getting to him a little as he landed behind Ai taking up a defensive position while she was investigating. “Anything interesting?” Roken asked, making a note of the surrounding buildings and possible sniping points and areas that could be used to hide anyone that might try and ambush them.

When asked if he would be able to disable the explosive, Wavrian shrugged, an awkward gesture in his power armor. "The thing with bombsss isss that you never know. I could try my hardest with all of the training that I've received and still blow usss all sky-high. I'd probably ask that you all leave the area before I tried it." However, when the others began to pipe up about the jammer nestled into the wiring, he shut up and listened.

"Heading inside to check out the jammer."

The Azorean hustled into the building, stopping before the panel. He gingerly shifted through the wires, careful not to pull anything loose. "Hnn... Requesting permission to exit my armor for eassse of accesssss. May need my fingersss."

Ai, shortly after landing was joined by Roken, peered down into the whole below. As Ai looked down the hole using her thermal vision nothing revealed itself to the officer, at least not right away. After a few minutes lots of somethings, all about human size, moved into sight and began to cram into the elevator. Simultaneously Ai's radar lit up, blips appeared all over the place. Then just as quickly the blips fell off the radar and the loud groaning noise that had filled the dome earlier filled it again. This time though the source was painfully clear to both Ai and Roken as it was painfully loud.

-------------------------

"Make it very very quick." Natsuko responded to Wavrian before shifting herself into a better position to provide cover for those in the room. "Cross, Karasu provide cover for Technician Wavrian while he's outside of his Tenshi." Natsuko sent to the pair inside the facility.

"...If you really have to be he-..... Techard, back up and take cover behind something," Ai stated, before switching her vision back to regular visible light. "Some... people? Are coming if it wasn't obvious because of the elevator. Follow me."

The Sub-lieutenant backed out of the building and hid to the side of the entryway, out of sight.

Roken did not say anything as he followed Ai's order to get into cover.
“Lets hope they disable the jamming signal before they surface,” Roken finally said as he hid on the side of the entryway opposite of the Sub-lieutenant. He could only assume that whomever they were would be hostile and the team would be outnumbered but he could not take a risk turning the corner and being wrong responsible for the death of a colonist.

The best he could do now was wait and let Ai plan there next move.

The technician removed himself from his suit as hastily as he could, leaving it running on low power so that he could re-suit quickly if the need arose. Once outside of it, he scrambled up to the exposed panel, dug to the back, and got to work looking over it. He ran his fingers along some of the wires, looked them over until he knew each one's source, then smiled. "Why wasss everyone so cautiousss about thisss? Unlessss you think it'sss wired to the explosivesss, you could very well have just smashed it. Ah... You don't think it isss wired to set thossse off, do you?"

The Azorean had talked himself into a corner. He made a thorough check of what was connected to what. If there was another transmitter of some sort besides the one for the jamming signal, that would be worrisome. Hell, what if the jamming signal itself was what kept the bombs from going off?

Gin looked at the Azorean and counted to ten mentally before responding. "We were being cautious because, it could have been tied to them, or worse, tied into the power plant controls to trigger some sort of overload. Without sufficient time and my diagnostic tools, I was unwilling to make a hasty conclusion."

Zero backed off to let Wavrian in to do his thing and looked around and nodded. He'd just keep quiet about it and make sure nothing else came in to interfere with the engineer's efforts. "It could be, we won't know until we can figure out how to turn it off," he commented, "If the signal is blocking the detonators then it might be best to deal with it and disable the bombs FIRST."

As Wavrian looked over the device it was quickly becoming clear to him that it wasn't so complex in an attempt to confuse anyone, it was just quite shoddily put together. It looked like a very crude attempt and a very custom job. After spending about thirty seconds feeling the device out it became clear to the technician that it was in fact integrated into the power plant. It looked like the wiring of the plant had been redone slightly to accommodate the device.

From what Wavrian could tell the voltage of some of the wires coming into the device was significantly higher than those going out of the device and into the rest of the equipment, if some of the wires even had current running through them. Luckily for Wavrian though, other than the initial transmitter he could find no other transmitters on the device.

------------

After a minute or so of constant noise the sound eventually subsided. It was about another minute later before two people stepped out of the building, unaware of Ai and Roken.

"Where did you see them at?" One of the two unarmored people asked the other.

"They were near the power plant last I saw," the other replied while looking around.

Feeling very much reassured, Wavrian let out an airy sigh. Carefully, oh so carefully, he began to re-wire everything. He did his best to keep the place from shutting down, but if a few lights shut down momentarily, so be it. He also tried to get the wires that were currently powerless back online. After all, there could be something important in need of power!

Ai raised one of her forearm weapons to the ones who had stepped out of the building. "UOC Peacekeepers. Stop!"

Roken followed Ai's lead as he raised his weapons to the remaining individual. “Keep your hands were we can see them and you will be just fine, “ Roken said as he examined to two strangers in front of him. He hoped it was just them at the moment and there were not any others that decided to say inside, once they had them under restrained he would take a peak in and make sure.

The two men raised their hands, clearly surprised. "W-We're civilians!" one of the two said.

"Please don't shoot" a voice from inside the building called out. As Ai and Roken moved to get the two men into a better view they saw about 10 more civilians standing on the elevator, all appeared to be unarmed and most certainly scared.

---------

As Wavrian began to remove wires and try to rewire the plant he noticed that the control panel was registering an overflow of power coming into the grid. Something was wrong, according to the grid there was too much energy being siphoned in, it was still barely within acceptable limits now, but too much more and conduits would start exploding.

Ai raised an eyebrow. Okay, the fact they were all unarmed really screamed civilian, but, still, you couldn't be too cautious. Apparently, the Peacekeepers were seen before, so it could be a ruse.

"Natsu-chan, it seems like we've found, hopefully, our missing civilians."

Keeping her weapon raised, Ai questioned the civilians. "Why were you all hiding?"

Wavrian grimaced. If wasn't one thing, it was another. "I have a problem, here. Whoever tampered with thisss wasn't very mindful of overload protectorsss or switching relaysss. There'sss too much power coming in. I'll either need some bitsss to put in here, or we'll need to manually lower the power output in the station. If we could find the original piecesss that were removed from this panel, that would be excellent."

Gin thought about what Wavarian said then responded, "Or else that is exactly what they wanted. Put in a device that looks easy to remove. And if someone did in a hurry the whole place blows up, and it looks like an accident, or worse that we did something wrong. Of course, trying to lower the power output could have the same effect. There is no way to know how badly they have sabotaged the system."

Natsuko signaled affirmative and breathed a sigh of relief before relaxing a little bit. Hopefully there aren't anymore surprises after this. Natsuko thought to herself.

"Perhaps the citizens may know something about it." Natsuko suggested to Wavrian before heading over to assist him.

-----------------

Meanwhile, a small crowd of civilians was forming behind the two men. They all had an anxious look on their faces when they saw the guns the Peacekeepers were packing. "We saw a shuttle coming in on radar but we couldn't identify it since something is screwy with the sensors. We decided hiding would be best, in case it was one of the Barras family ships," one of the men replied.

“So they have been here before then,” Roken asked still alert as the civilians stepped out. He wanted to know more about the explosives they discovered and the strange room the others were investigating. Roken did his best to observe what most of the civilians in the group were wearing and if they were armed or carrying anything that could be used as a weapon.

Roken looked over at Ai, switching over to short range communications to keep what he says private.”We could ask them about the room and the explosives we found when we got here,” Roken wanted to know if the family did this or if the colonist were responsible.

So, it was confirmed that the Barras Family were pirates, it seemed. "Don't worry, we're Peacekeepers. We won't shoot you," Ai teased the citizens.

"Go ahead and ask, Techard," Ai smiled. She couldn't take all the 'fun.' Besides, it wouldn't be so bad to give others a chance to learn.

Zero simply kept his distance from what was going on and watched Wavarian work. He thought that it was probably a trap of some kind to hold the entire colony hostage. If they cut the power off it could lock them all in where they were for a slow death by starvation or madness. "Maybe we can re-route the power through something to remove it? That way it doesn't go offline long enough to cause problems?"
