RP: YSS Eucharis [Mission 15] Gifted

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Planet H

The shuttle became a ball of flaming scrap and slammed into a mountainside in the distance while the crew fell towards a frigid beachfront. External temperature readings showed -11°F (-24°C) and it was foggy and sleeting. The poor visibility made it difficult for the NMX battle pods to get a visual so they were using instruments. The armor team's stealth coatings were working okay so anyone that refrained from emitting unnecessary energy was able to escape detection.

Space

The Eucharis disappeared from view as it moved away, leaving Alpha Team in space roughly 1.5 million kilometers from "Planet H."

Planetary Surface

From the moment Helen touched down, she began to operate as low-profile as possible. She powered down a number of her Kylie armor systems, and began to trudge through the sleet and snow in the direction of the rally point she had indicated to the other members of the team, what sensors had marked as a lake which was in the middle of the forest covered portion of the mountain she had touched down near. As she walked, she pulled the medical kit from her buttpack, pulling a hemosynth container from it, she went about treating her wounds, while replenishing her supply of blood. With her health addressed, Helen made her hike, in hopes of finding all of her team alive, so they could begin the next portion of their mission.

Free Fall

Reika gripped tightly onto Totomi so as not to be flung away by the air turbulence during their rapidly increasing decent towards the planet's surface. As the others had begun to the SAINT operative also attempted to activated her armors stealth system -- though it had been slightly damaged due to the weapons fire from the enemy battlepods back aboard the shuttle and there was no telling exactly how effective it would be.

As they went down, Reika's attention was fixated upon her sensor feeds -- alert in case the enemy battlepods made the attempt to open fire upon the pair during their precarious decent.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Freefall

Takeyu kept himself quiet and still as he glided toward the surface, his eyes keeping an eye out for the battlepods but he couldn't see any. To him, he was hoping they'd just given up and gone elsewhere.

Planet Surface

When he saw the surface come up, he waited until he was at the required alttitude before initiating an anti-grav burst to slow him down and allow him to touch the ground without injury, then he quickly got low and turned off any systems that he felt would give away his position - though he kept his stealth systems active.

Unslinging his rifle, he looked around, before making his way through the snow and frozen trees to the map marker, being ever watchful for NMX - or anything else that might take advantage of a lone soldier.

Planet Surface

So far, there were no signs of any nearby enemies. The waves crashed on a rocky and sandy beachfront while rudimentary plant life consisting of mostly of thick moss and short spiky trees covered the nearby hills.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Tomomi managed to compensate for her inexperience long enough to slow down enough. But not enough to stick the landing, letting go of her hold six feet from the ground and rolling to soften the kinetic force. Spending a few minutes laying on her back, she got up to orient herself.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Ramiro was starting to get concerned that the team was still floating in the same spot in space that they were several minutes ago. The other team could be getting decimated by NMX forces right now and they were too far away to do anything about it.

Shosa, what are your orders?

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Planetary Surface

With all the gadgets, gizmos, and general technology which the Star Army had at their disposal, at the moment, for Helen at least, the most important thing she had at her disposal was the ability to walk. Her legs carried her from the location of her touchdown, to the arranged rally point which she had marked down for the other members of her team. Upon her arrival at the rally point, she waded into the mountain lake, and crept nearly entirely beneath the surface, as she waited for the others.

As Helen lurked patiently, she kept her communication receivers open, and her thoughts as well, as she mulled over the depth of the situation. Communications would be next to impossible with so many NMX assets in the air. Escape from the planet was also impossible for the same reason. What it left for Helen, and her team, was the task of operating on their own for two distinctive goals; completion of the mission, and survival until pick-up, or until the opportunity to escape from the planet presented itself. She thought on another matter though... she had every hope that the other team would touch down with less trouble, and that they would not botch it up.

Planet Surface

As Helen waited, she began to hear the noise of some sort of engines in the distance over the howling wind and pattering of the sleet. It sounded like...airbikes?

Sune took a moment to take stock of their situation. His AIES reported their distance and relative velocity of nearly zero. The Eucharis left us, the launch of the shuttle and and energy flare compromised her safety. He then replied to Ramiro.

Well my friend, this is situation standard for a Eucharis mission.
Shuttle is destroyed, Beta team status unknown. Eucharis dropped us off 1.5 million K from the planet with little to know forward momentum, and has left. We are out of communications with the ship, most of Alpha team is unaccounted for.

Basically the mission has gone to makai.

Our only choice for now is to make our way to the planet.

Program your AIES to use the CFS for a series of brief acceleration pulses to get up to a a velocity of 5,000 kilometers per sec. At that speed it will take us 5 minutes to reach the planet. The energy use for acceleration should be low enough to go unnoticed. We aim for the peripheral so that we can use atmospheric braking on the far side of the planet to avoid detection. Then we make low power adjustments as we free fall. Our designated landing site will be the range of mountains south of the trajectory of the shuttle.

Passive scans only while we descend, its possible that we might fly over something of interest. Or that we might come across the wreckage of the shuttle.

Once we are on the surface, and see if we can pick up any more of our team. We will decide on a course of action.

Akemi began making her descent towards the planet following her superior's instructions. She was largely indifferent towards the destruction of the shuttle. It was unfortunate, but it was simply how things went.

Konoka followed Akemi in her stealthy descent towards the surface of Planet H, careful to follow Sune's instructions as she did so. She was saddened by the loss of the shuttle, and worried that perhaps Beta Team had suffered injuries in the crash. She knew, however, that all she could do was descend with the rest of Alpha Team, as she'd been instructed.

Wasn't Hakujou-Juni supposed to be Beta Team's medic? Konoka thought to herself. Oh, well. All I can do is make sure I get down to the surface OK. I have my own team to look out for.

With that thought, she stared down at the planet below as she slowly got closer and closer to its surface.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Planet Surface

With his stealth systems still active, he made his way into the forest, rifle up and ready in case there were any hostiles. He moved slowly, looking around and checking the areas, two drones deployed just a few minutes earlier to move on ahead for recon to spot any trouble.

Kneeling down beside a tree, he looked around. Close to the coords that Shosa cited... should be around here somewhere. With no sighting of any enemies, he turned some of his systems back online, but still kept them on a low-power setting temporarily. As he approuched the coordinates, he began to look around for either the Shosa, or others that were part of his team, while still keeping himself to the forests natural cover.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Aye Sir, let's make it happen.

After a few pulses, Ramiro was going just over 5000 km/s, none of the pulses lasting more than a second. He also made sure the pulses aimed him so that his trajectory would be tangent to the planetary sphere. As he went, he noted the others in the group that were with them, making sure that they hadn't lost somebody.

Planet Surface

A roar filled the forest as a pair of NMX strategic bombers flew overhead. Takeyu was able to get a good look at their underside and see that they were carrying spider tanks and some sort of container pods.

Planet Surface

Takeyu stopped in his tracks when he heard the roaring, and looked up to find the bombers overhead with a spider tank and the pods that were being carried. Spider tank is going to be a PITA... but what are in those pods?, he pondered and used his HUD to zoom in on the pods to try and make out any details that might give-away what it was while also making himself as small of a target as possible.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Planet Surface - Lake

As she waited, she did indeed hear the sound that was very much like that of airbikes, she looked about as much as she could without rising out of the water, though, her gaze was soon distracted by the NMX strategic bomber. A sigh left her lips as she slowly shook her head. If what she was looking at was a bomber, then the pods she could see were overwhelmingly likely to be bombs, and if the bombs were large enough to require exterior mounting, then she was in some pretty big trouble.

After paying mind to the bomber, she looked about once more, and spotted Takeyu. She pulled her NSP, before turning on the flashlight and pointing it right at him, before waving her hand over the the light to interrupt the beam in a series of short signalling flashes before she turned the light off and waited to see if he even noticed, she was not going to risk signalling longer than but a couple of seconds, for the sake of avoiding detection.

Getting to the planet was easy enough, as Bors sort of tug boated his way towards the planet with the help with the rest of Alpha Squad. Have to thank them later for this he thought as he heard the message for shields up from Sune. Realizing that he didn’t have shields, Bors tried his best to stay as close as he could to his current squad mate to try and avoid being burnt up in reentry.

Planet Surface

Bors awoke with a sharp intake of air and coughed up a small bit of blood, adding to the small amount that was decorating his helmet's visor. Bors did a quick check to make sure he wasn’t paralyzed from the fall he apparently took and righted himself and tried to remember what happened. The last thing Bors remembered was an intense heat as he piggybacked through the atmosphere. Thinking that he must of passed out sometime during reentry, Bors propped himself up against a nearby tree and took off his helmet to wipe off the flecks of blood from his visor. Thinking this was as good a time as any for a quick smoke break, Bors pulled out his E-Cig from where he stashed it and took a nice long drag from it. As soon as he did his hand went immediately to his side as a sharp pain shot through his body. Taking a moment to think of what could have caused it, he noticed the trail he had from the fall and the small tree that was broken in half. "Well that would do it" he said to himself as he pulled himself to his feet, trying his best to ignore what could possibly be a broken rib, and went to go retrieve his rifle. As Bors picked up his weapon, he spat out some blood that was left in his mouth before putting on his helmet, following his trajectory hoping that the rest of the squad would be in that direction.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Planet Surface

As Takeyu watched the bombers through the vegetation, he saw a glimpse of the them dropping their payloads not too far away. Curiously there were no explosions, however.

A pair of Akira type airbikes sped along the lake shore searching for survivors from the downed shuttle. The riders were NMX Nekovalkyrja carrying Impaler rifles and wearing snow gear. There was also some sort of vest-wearing military working dog sitting in a basket at the rear of the bike. If the survivors didn't hide, the nekos were probably going to see them.

One of the dogs was released in Riko's area and immediately began running in his general direction, sniffing the air excitedly.

Re: [Mission 15.1] Gifted

Planetary Surface - Lake

Helen's audio pick-up on her Kylie worked to inform her of the incoming NMX personnel. With NSP in hand, she submerged beneath the waters of the lake, merely peeking a finger above the surface of the water. Old model power armor design was sound enough to include surface-sight capability, allowing Helen to use that tip of an armored finger as a sort of periscope. Silently, she hoped that Takeyu and the others knew enough to find cover, and to conceal themselves properly. Evading a search dog was easy in a power armor, considering they were sealed well enough to endure vacuum, that, and Nekovalkryja and their kin are inherently scentless... it was just a matter of not doing anything stupid.
