Re: [Mission 19.3]

Chieko's eyebrows raised as well in response soon followed by a smirk, "Challenge accepted." The scientist then bowed one more time before picking up her duffel and making her way out of the Shuttle Bay so that the two shuttles could take off. Once beyond where the force field emitters, she then looked around at whom was left, especially making sure to get a good look at the medic whom arrived with her.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Quarters

Bors had taken a quick detour after leaving the PA bay to the showers to relax a bit. Returning to his room Bors sat in his chair in his towel running though the last mission in his head as he waited for word on what was next on the agenda.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Shuttle Bay

Mitsuko took the can of soda, blinking. "Yes. Right. Take care of that." She watched Victory head for the shuttle she had just vacated, carrying the soda cautiously as she headed for the armor racks again. The Neko wasn't going to open it now, after the violent trip it had just taken.

With the soda in one hand and Misato's sword in the other, she headed for her cabin. Both items would be put in their proper place, soda chilling in her mini fridge. Hopefully it would be safe to open after a nice, quiet rest. Mitsuko could use one herself.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Eucharis Wardroom
ON

Sune sat at the corner table and sipped his tea. He reflected on the events of the day, reviewed the logs of the surviving armors to piece together what had happened.

As Misato walked into the wardroom the cloud followed, the rage in her eyes hadn't faded, she was pretty sure that this conversation was going to be ending with her packing her gear and reporting to the shuttle that brought the newest crew aboard.

"Misato Suzume reporting as order sir." She bowed and waited at attention for him to order her to pack.

"It was a request Misato-Hei, not an order. Kindly take a seat." Sune said and then took a sip of his tea.

She was taken aback a bit as she slowly moved and sat across from him, "Sorry sir..." She wasn't sure what to say or do.

"No need to apologize, you seemed to have a lot on your mind. So I wanted to talk with you to see what is bothering you. After all we need all our soldiers to have their head in the game so to speak." he said putting his cup down.

The words washed over her, she didn't expect him to talk to her as much as yell. "Well Sir I have failed twice on past three missions, all three if you count the last one where you and the others were attack and I was off playing explorer. I should have been there to protect the crew." The rage burned in her eyes flared as she talked about her short comings.

"Let me ask you a simple question. Have you learned anything from those missions? Are you going to repeat any mistakes that you made?" he asked calmly.

"I have struggled to learn from each defeat. I wasn't with you all last time, because I was having Taii Nayacesen help refresh me on how to operate in the field. Though it seems I'm always lacking in a new way." she sat there almost shaking, she wanted to yell and scream, maybe even throw things.

"Here is an important lesson I can share with you. Sometimes there is nothing you can learn. Sometimes you just are out gunned and out positioned. The first time I died there was nothing I could do about it. We were out numbered heavily, and another team from the ship chose to worry about achieving their objective rather than come to our assistance.

Now in the case where there is something that you did wrong, then you can strive to not repeat that mistake.

What happened down in that base was not your fault. If you want to blame someone, you could very well blame me. I gave the orders to not engage. I was hoping that we could resolve the matter peacefully. We will never know why they attacked. But if I was in the same kind of situation. There is a very good chance I would decide to hold our fire. Because charging in firing would have been just as bad.

When I lead a team, the safety of the team is important to me. But I have to balance that safety against our objectives."

Sune said, giving her some food for thought.

She was stunned... she really didn't know hat to say. She had failed to protect the safety of the away mission by dying. "Sir... I don't know any more... Those Rippers where fine until they saw me. Do you think they can send information to other rippers. It killed me exactly the same way the last one tried to."

She saw the first attack flash through her mind, and the images from the others cams of the newest. "They wanted me dead didn't they?" Tears formed in the corners of her eyes as she hit a fist on the table.

Sune smiled, he was starting to see where some of Misato's emotions were stemming from.

"First, we do not know what triggered the Rippers. But I do know they are not a hive consciousness. I believe you are construing their training as a personal attack. Did they want you dead, yes. Was it personal no. We are their enemy.

The Mishhu in a Ripper has one goal, crush and kill their enemies. They are trained how to be quick, efficient and lethal. The Mishhu are far too familiar with our equipment. They know exactly where an how to hit us to inflict maximum damage.

That can however be used to an advantage. I suggest that you download the data from both attacks and run a simulation. Study their attack method, and see what you can come up with to counter it. That would be of benefit to your fellow soldiers."

"I have... I have watched and simulations the ships computers have on them, I have watched playbacks of past fights. No where was there why they went after me first both times." She stood and started pacing around. "There are people on this ship I need to protect, but how can if I keep loosing to those bastards. They are so much faster then I am in the Mindys. Every simulation shows them out running and out gunning Mindys left and right."

"The outgunning we have addressed in the past by staying in tight groups and concentrating our firepower. Groups of three or more work best. As for outrunning, perhaps you should think in other moves. The Rippers are bigger, heavier, but they are not equipped with our CFS so you can move in ways they can not. So you have agility, the ability to move in all three directions, and do so with the speed of thought.

Instead of taking a Ripper head on, you come at it sideways. Fire, move, fire, move, and have your team mates do the same. They can be killed. You just have to be smarter and quicker." he replied.

"Smarter? I'm not one to be accused of that often, but quicker, I think I can do that." She started thinking over all the data she had been going over. Maybe she could convince Taii Nayacesen to help her work on a small project. She stood a bit straighter, "Sir, thank you... I still fear failing to protect the team, though I think I might be able to get past it and strive to be quicker.

"I am pleased to hear that. Remember this the next time we go into battle, Fear is a response to something that has not happened.

Our bodies can use the fear to fight by releasing adrenaline. I am confident that working with the Taii you can come up with a solution to the challenge." Sune said with a smile.

"I really hope so. Sir.... May I have permission to use the fabrication bay to work on a few things?"

"Yes, I will let Charisma know that you have authorization. Though I suggest your have the Taii look over any plans you have."

"Well Sir I was going to have him help me with the whole thing, I have never been all that handy with such things." Misato shook her head, "I know fighting and a little bit more, the rest is foggy, even though I was trained for more."

Sune smiled, "That is a sensible course of action. When I have submitted designs to KFY and other companies, I always leave the specific design details to the experts myself.

I think we are finished then. But Suzume-San, if you ever feel the need to talk again. My door is always open to the crew." he responded and took a long sip from his tea.

"Yes Sir... And to think I was expecting you to be dismissing me and sending me to another ship or something, Thank you sir." She bowed and left to find the a shower.

Sune watched Misato as she left, he noted the change in her demeanor and body language. He sent a mental message to Charisma granting her access to Fabrication. He finished his tea stood up and walked over to deposit his cup and spoon in the appropriate receptacle for cleaning.

He left the wardroom and made his way to the bridge.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Shuttle Bay

Chieko looked around to see who was left and noticed that most had disappeared. Taking this as her cue, the scientist requisitioned the directions to Cabin 6 from the ship's AI, allowing the information to download completely, creating a map in her head. With this information, the Minkan brought up a harisen in her field of view and had it direct her on her way to her new living space.

Cabin 6

Upon arrival, the Santo Hei took a look around first, noticing the unmade lower bunk with various articles of clothing on it and a backpack on the desk. Nodding at this, Chieko put her duffel down in a corner, out of the way, figuring that it may be best she discuss locker arrangements before getting carried away. That done, the academic breathed a sigh of contentment and made her way out to the wardroom to see whom she could introduce herself to.

On the way to the Wardroom

Noticing someone coming down the stairs, the scientist smiled, then recognized the face of the woman whom had welcomed her earlier. "My apologies for not responding to you earlier, Itto Hei," she began in Yamataian, with a bow to Misato, "I wanted to thank you as well as introduce myself." Chieko paused to give the neko a chance to respond before getting carried away with chatter.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Misato was stunned at first that some one was bowing to her. She quickly looked up who she was, " Hei Koizumi, you don't need to bow to me.. and I guess it was best that you didn't respond then. I most likely would have just growled, but my statement at first was, and still stands." Her smile showed small but was there now, stealing away her scowl.

"She's a fine ship, and more, I truly hope you can find your place here and become part of her." Misato's hand reached out and touched the bulk head.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

"I've been taught to bow since childhood," Chieko chuckled, "Mother and Father would always remind me whenever I'd forget, and some of the reminders have been quite... memorable." The academic then sighed pleasantly, "I hope I can be of use too, being more the scholarly type. What happened to get you upset though?" The young woman tilted her head slightly with concern, "That is, if you want to say. I'm still new, so don't feel forced."

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Misato was about to storm off, and ignoring Koizumi or maybe even hitting the new enlistee, but a very mean thought rolled through her head. "Well come close here, A lot of what I'm about to tell you has been classified, but you look like I can trust you, hell your a doc right? Never mind, here." She sat sown on the step she was on, "You see the Mishu have many units they field. But none stand as brutal as the Ripper..." She paused for a moment to let the name sink in.

Chieko wondered why Misato's face seemed to get dark for a second, but when the Neko turned back and started on about something classified - she was intrigued. "I've only finished my undergraduate degree, but if it's alright," she wondered about the cat eared woman, but getting her to talk would be the only way to find out what she was really getting at. The scientist leaned up against the wall as the Itto Hei began with the Mishu and nodded, "I suppose they aptly named it."

Misato's eyes flashed with a bit of anger for a second at that, "You have no clue, sure there is a lot of information you can find through the ship's computers. Sure you would think they would put all the information there, but they leave out somethings," She looked at the Minkan studying her, "you see they aren't really part of this universe, they can move through out an environment like some kinded of evil ghost." Misato took a deep breath, "They can disappear and reappear around you and your unit, Now now I know your going to say Teleporation, but that doesn't explain it, no energy readings, nothing. One second it is before you, the next... who knows..." Misato frowned.

Chieko's eyes slowly widened as she tried to think of anything in basic that could be used against something so fast, but as Misato continued her limited knowledge of physics was just enough to make a shiver run up her spine. "Why would they hide something like this?" she started, "don't, didn't we come up with some way to defend against this?"

"Nothing... and would you tell people that there is an enemy that can slip into your room at night and carve you out like a holiday bird." Misato looked up and down the passage before whispering, "They can do that too, even on ship..." Her voice continued to get darker and quieter, "Even this ship, that is why you have to remember to update daily... They are like demons or something..." Misato stood suddenly, "But don't tell anyone I told you, the only reason I know, is cause I saw it happen to my first roommate. I think it is why they don't 'invent' constent updating, don't want us to remember being slayed as we sleep."

Chieko thought she heard a sound coming from behind her and started to look around trying to seem confident, but it caused her some panic. Even as Misato continued, the academic started to shake ever so slightly while her eyes began periodically darting around the compartment. "But that makes so little sense," she almost squeaked, "don't we need to defeat them?"

"Morale Dear..." Misato smiled 'kindly' "if we all knew who would attempt to fight the demons? Who would leave home to be slaughtered in our 'safe' ships? Just keep it in mind, hell I just got killed by one earlier today. Didn't see it coming, they were offering peaceful talks them poof I'm dead..."

"I suppose I understand Morale," she looked a little guilty, but worked to shake it, "Someone still needs to find a way..." Chieko soon looked like some new challenge had been presented to her, though the fear was still visible. "So what happens if I ask about it?"

"You might get mind wiped..." She frowned, "I heard about it happening to a Neko on a sister ship here." She shook her head sadly.
The look of grim resolution intensified on Chieko's face as she drew a long breath in, then sighed. "Thank-you for the warning," she then said rather curtly, her face soon changed over to a more driven look then she nodded, "Thank-you." The Minkan then was about to walk away when she came to herself, "by the way, I didn't get your name."

"Suzumi, Misato Suzumi... " Misato walked off with out another word to the now confuzzeled newbie. She was off to grab some clothes and a shower.

Chieko gave another polite bow as Misato walked away. Soon she let off another sigh through her nostrils and crossed her arms. This new challenge, along with getting to know her cabin mate now playing on her mind.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Armundo strode out of the armor bay quickly, his long legs eating up the distance in no time at all. He paused as he reached the zero-grav hallway, giving a small sight..he was never the best at moving through Zero-Gravity, especially compared to the Nekos who would flit about like fairies in zero gravity.

Grabbing a loop, he pulled himself along, several crew members zipping past him as he pulled himself carefully, hand over hand, moving towards the medic bay at a rather sad pace.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Bridge

Hanako returned to the bridge from shuttle bay and got on the intercom. "This is your captain speaking. As we travel through the universe carrying out missions and solving problems we do a lot of exploration for Yamatai that involves things. We chart things, deliver things, destroy things. But things are not what is most important in this universe; people are. Without people, things have no meaning. With this in mind I want our next mission to be about people. If you have a suggestion, please see me on the bridge. That is all for now."

The Shosho sat in her comfortable new chair at the center of the ship's small bridge and began searching for places that unfamiliar aliens might be hanging out.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Cabin 4

Mitsuko was tidying up her cabin when Hanako's voice come in over the intercom. She paused to listen, sitting down at the desk as the message finished. She actually had an easier time dealing with things, most of the time. Introducing people tended to make most situations much more complicated.

Resting in the chair, she considered the captain's request, trying to distract herself from the events of the day. She rubbed her sore neck, squirming to get comfortable as she mulled things over. Perhaps a bit too comfortable. Mitsuko was dangerously close to nodding off at the desk, as all the pressure of the day drained from her in the quiet room.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Bridge

Sune watched Hanako entered the bridge and completed his personal log entry. He listened politely to her announcement across the intercom. Our resources for locating other races is rather limited, the Eucharis is a warship, not a science vessel. he thought.

He stood up and walked over to the center console and spoke.

"What search parameters are you planning on using to locate new people? Do you wish to limit our search to Yamatai class star systems? Or shall we use the sensor array to scan the local star systems for electromagnetic emissions. We could look for spurious emissions inconsistent with the star in the system. That would at least give us something to look for. Granted there could be natural phenomenon responsible. But it is better than sticking a pin in a map." he said with grin.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Below the Wardroom

After Hanako's announcement, Chieko found herself caught between the captain's request and a budding sense of necessity to get herself backed up. The curiosity surrounding what her new commanding officer meant ate at her almost as much as survival instinct causing the young scientist to pace at the base of the stairs leading up to the wardroom. Soon, curiosity got the better of her, causing the academic to semi-reluctantly head for the bridge; the look of lucid excitement slowly taking over her face and eventually her steps.

Bridge

Chieko finally arrived after running all kinds of questions through her head as to what people, would they be helping out, would they be learning more about known cultures, or would they be seeking out new ones. The enlisted sciences member only came in far enough to not block the entrance while hearing the XO talk about "emissions". She then stood at attention in wait to be recognized before proceeding further.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Bridge

"Anything habitable is an option," Hanako replied to Sune. "I am looking for a planet where a lot of different species are gathered in one place, like HX-24 I Urtullan. I would like to go back there, but I am afraid we made a bad impression. Darso VII is also an option, although I suspect we are familiar with most species there. We could look at some of the systems to the South and try to find a trade hub, perhaps. Subspace communications seem like a good starting point for scans."

The teal-haired Shosho turned to Chieko. "Welcome to the bridge. The sensor station is that one," she gestured.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

"Thank-you, Shosho," Chieko replied and made her way to the sensor station, "Also, if we are going to be looking for new species, I've heard that higher metalicity stars have a better chance of having planets with resource amounts that aid technological development. I will admit that, it was three years ago and I think astrophysicists have a different definition for metals than chemists do; however I should be able to look that up and use that definition, along with a spectrograph, to find some likely stars."

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Bridge

Sune listened to Hanako's suggestion about looking for subspace communications. He was dubious about the success of that, any place they found that had a significant subspace signature would most likely be a known species. Or an outpost where either pirates or rogues would congregate from time to time.

One could improve the likely hood of finding life on planets by only searching those that historically produced life. But life came in many forms, and one could never tell what the proper formula was. And even if you found life, more often than not is was simple life forms.

"We shall see what we find, Shosho." he said and returned to his station.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Bridge

Noticing that the captain and XO were deep in conversation a little late, Chieko decided to instead sit and start seeing what she had available to her. The sensor suite made her smile as the detection methods available got checked off in her head: some things she had a general handle on, others were tools the scientist knew how to use to great effect. Then the academic took a couple passive readings to test what was there and compare it to what she thought was there, while trying not to get too giddy over it all.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Cabin 4

Misato walked in abruptly after grabbing a shower and washing off the last of the hemo-tube goo. She tossed off her towel and walked over to grab her uniform but couldn't cause the Mimi-chan was asleep at the desk in the way.

She didn't know quite what to do. She sat down on the lower bunk to think, when she saw her blade sitting in it's place. "I thought I left that with that new Mindy of mine?" she muttered to herself.

She sat there pondering the sword for a few minutes before she had an idea that she sent to the Shosho as a message.

Code:
Ma'am, you said people are the reason we are out here, is there possibly any POW camps of the NMX that near by that we might be able recover our people?

Misato Suzume

Once she sent it she got up and put a hand on her roommate's shoulder and gently shook it. "Mimi... Wake up dear..."

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Cabin 4

Mitsuko flinched as her shoulder was grabbed, waking up in mid-shake. "Huh?" She blinked, looking up at her roommate. "Suzume-chan...when did you get here?" She had just sat down at the desk for a moment to think, and then...the Neko blushed as she realized she'd dozed off. "Oh, dear..."

She reached up to place her hand on top of Misato's, managing a weak smile. "Sorry. I'm just tired. We've still got a while before lights out." Murakami didn't seem ready to leave the chair quite yet, though. "I um...I'm sure you're worn out, too." Things suddenly felt a bit awkward, now that she was fully awake. Mitsuko wasn't sure how her roommate felt at the moment, or how to handle the situation. She just squeezed her hand and yawned, staying quiet.

Re: [Mission 19.3]

Cabin #4

Smiling, "Yeah bit tired, more mental exhaustion then anything else. Though I would like to get past you to my locker." Misato's voice had a bit of humor to it, with a little forced happiness. She squeezed her roommate's shoulder, "I'm sure you should go and grab some food and maybe a shower before you completely drop."

Now that Mimi was awake she slide behind her and grabbed her duty uniform, and a set of underlings. It didn't take long for her to dress. though something just wasn't right, she wondered if her new body was any different from her last.

"Come on Dear, let's go grab something to eat before I head up to the bridge." She motioned to the door.
