Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

The youthful blond haired samurai nodded once. "You’re more than right. My sensei, Midori-sama, would be ashamed of me if I had forgotten my duties after coming this far." Sumaru then moved to get up off the bed and slowly he moved over to Sora's small shrine, "but first I think I should pay my respects to Sharie-dono..." He said firmly as he situated himself before the first naturally-born Ketsurui. He unlaced his still sheathed katana from his side and laid it out in front of the mitamaya on a quickly placed sheet of red silk, and bowed lowly to the floor as a sigh of utmost respect to the Ketsurui who mothered the woman who he had decided to protect and dedicate his existence to.

I know your spirit has many things left to watch over. But, Sharie-dono, may your rest be eased as now I am here by your daughter. I have sworn many times, to many of her ancestors, but I swear it to you with the most conviction my soul can carry. Ketsurui Sharie, for whatever future Sora chooses, I will be her sword and see to it that her flame of life is never extinguished. I swear this to you, on my blade and thus my honor. I pray that you may bless my path, as I walk it ever vigil beside Sora as whatever she needs me to be.

In closing Sumaru rose his head from his humble bow and bowed his head once more in honor of the spirit. Then, once he was finished, he stood up and wrapped his sword in the fine silk and made his way over to his bag in the corner of the room. He had a uniform to change into, one that he never thought he’d have to wear for the rest of his days.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Good." Yoroko replied, her voice was still zombie-like though she was starting to wake up finally. "It was...an experience to fly through the traffic around the planet." Yoroko mumbled as she gulped some more coffee. "How about you?" Yoroko kept an ear open to listen to Yuzuki's response though, she had only met the sprite once before and was curious when she had been born.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"A few weeks," she answered, feeling the gap widen, "I was born while you were on shore leave."

As she glanced around to the crewmembers, Yuzuki realized she had hit a wall. There was nothing she could talk about, except her age, or her job, or the mission at hand. She knew nothing about the others at the table. Sure she remembered them, but they were names and ranks and faces - it wasn't true knowledge, it was just enough to let her get by. She had the vague feeling someone, somewhere, was laughing at her over this.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Hrm.. Cool. So, what exactly do you do? done anything interesting recently?" Kai asked, opening up conversation, unlike his usual self. Either it was something about Yuzuki, or he was Delusional from lack of sleep. Either way, he now showed a keen interest in the red-haired sprite, looking somewhat more awake with each passing minute.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"I repair things and I help out around engineering. Last night, Ichigo-san and I installed some new componants on the M6's. They should be able to outperform the standard model, now."

Yuzuki met Kai's eyes, a number of thoughts cropping up, unexpectedly. Apart from the depressing fact of having to talk about work, Yuzuki did like her job. And at least she was back in her element. Unconsciously, she leaned forward, folding her arms on the table. Her attention was obviously on Kai. The world, for her, had narrowed accordingly.

"You are a power armor pilot, Hei-san," she said, "Have you had any troubles with the M6's?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kai nodded accordingly, looking a bit happy when Yuzuki mentioned the upgrades to the Daisy armors. when she looked forward and asked him about the armors, Kai responded "Never during an actual mission, but in simulations, I have found the shield to be both a blessing and a curse. it can get in the way, and isn't nearly large enough, but has saved my hide in several sims." he nodded thoughtfully, wondering what he could do about it, then added, mostly to himself "might be because i'm still a bit inexperienced, but that's just me."

After another second of thought, he asked "what exactly did you do to the armors? I'd love to have something that works better than the standard, for sure." he was now likewise leaned towards the table, focused on Yuzuki as well. Even with his friends from the Fort he wasn't normally this talkative, either something clicked between the sprite and the PA pilot, or Kai was going insane.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Miyoko hadn't slept well. As if the coming battle weren't enough, the three messages on the datapad, their little digital envelope icons virginally unopened, haunted her all night. Opening them could give her anything from horrible blackmail information on Sanjuro to a boring letter... though the fact that two of them were from a law firm certainly favored the blackmail option. On the other hand, if he ever realized what had happened--which could quite easily happen if one of the senders were expecting a response--well. Miyoko would have no defense in that case if she'd opened them.

Finally, grumbling, the violet-haired Yamataian slid out of bed, having barely gotten a moment of sleep. She knew what she had to do, but it wasn't going to be enjoyable in the least. After pulling on a t-shirt and shorts, she took the datapad in hand and made the short journey to Sanjuro's room and rapped on the door.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Try as she might, Miyoko would receive no answer from Sanjuro's door. Not particularly in a talking mood this morning, it seemed.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Tom nodded to Nyton.

"Good morning, Claymere-taii."

He looked around the room, waiting for the others to arrive. He took a tally of the engineering crew and noted that they were all there. That made him feel slightly better, knowing that his team was up and active immediately after getting the message from Yukari.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"We replaced the Ke-1A-F2802's with some Ke-2A-F3021 models we picked up spare," replied the sprite, "We also added Ke-M6-W2901-compatable holsters on the hardpoints. But the Ke-2A-E30's are the real improvement - they turned out to be reverse-compatable, and they work fine. We tested them ourselves."

Without realizing it, Yuzuki was letting her leg bounce a little again.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Mm, nothing special," Takuma said, sipping on his now nearly empty cup of coffee. "Just finishing up a few things I wanted done in case we don't make it alive," the technician said coolly. When Yuzuki starting listing off parts changed on the Daisies, he tried to make a mental note of the parts for future reference, but got lost after the third item.

Just useless numbers, he thought. Such a waste of poor innocent numbers, cut down in their prime...

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kai stared at Yuzuki for a few moments before answering "I'm a pilot, not an engineer. What are those parts called in trade?" he obviously didn't know what they were, other than the holsters, and wanted some clarification.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sora went about her morning routine in silent contemplation but the acts of brushing your teeth and your hair didn't require much thinking. She eventually returned to her quarters. With a deep sigh, she walked over to her mini shrine and lit a stick of incense before she sat down to pray.

Mother, please forgive me, I am filled with doubt over our nation's purpose and Grandmother's motivations. The end can't really justify the means with the eradication of a species. Do the actions of a few truly damn the innocent as well? If that's true, then we're all truly damned and Melisson's promise to return will signal the coming of our, Yamatai's, end.

In my nightmares, I can see the purging fires slowly erupting around us but I still have some hope that we can stop it and redeem our souls. I just wish I had the courage and the ability to find the way. I know that there are many people that I serve with that have that courage....

Mother, please guide us to wherever this road might lead. May our hearts temper our judgment and allow us to do what is right.

The young Ketsurui rose from seat in front of the shrine, opening her eyes she saw the thin tendril of smoke rising up from the burning embers of the incense. She watched it memorized by the shape and pattern for a few moments, feeling reassured by the randomness of it somehow.

She finally looked away and continued to get ready for the day.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yuzuki looked blank for a moment before she realized she had shot over everybody's heads.

"Anou," she said apologetically, "I mean, the Daisy's strength actuators were replaced with a more current, more powerful system. They now provide a more stable firing platform. The holsters are for the Armor Service Pistols that Suzuka-Shosa ordered. And the E30's are sensor arrays. They're used on the M2-2A's and I didn't think they would be compatable with the M6 but the suits auto-compensated, and there aren't any glitches. They can pick up targets much farther away, now, and track movement in a local area very precisely."

She looked down at the table and realized she had her elbows on it. Somewhat nervously, Yuzuki clasp her hands together in her lap, instead.

"So what's it like?" she asked suddenly, glancing between the two blue-panels sitting at the table. "Do you like piloting?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"It depends on what your talking about really." Yoroko replied as she gently set her cup down. The Hei's face was significantly more alive than it had been when she first arrived. "Piloting a DAISY or a MINDY pales in comparison to piloting a fighter craft such as the Ryusei or even Miharu herself. Ships and fighters are just so much..." Yoroko gazed off into the wall for a little bit before picking back up where she left off. "So much more intensive, intoxicating, amazing. I can't even begin to imagine how it would feel to have a SPINE and pilot."

Yoroko sighed sadly. "But it's a lot harder, since you can move faster you have to work harder at hitting the right targets, and with the Miharu it's so complicated that you can only fly her while someone else has to take care of shooting the guns." Yoroko drank the last bit of her coffee up before speaking to Yuzuki telepathically. "Ano, you mentioned that the E30's can track targets at a close range with high precision. Is there any way to block that?" Yoroko asked curious if this might be another solution to the problem.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori made her own entry in the wardroom, holding a small stack of datapads with a curled left hand while she was looking quite intently at the displayed content of another in her right.

The Taisa gave a cool "Good morning" to the assembled before seating herself at the head of the table. She set the small stack of datapad over the table at her left before setting her left elbow on the table, propping the side of her face on her raised left hand and then continued looking at the datapad.

Kotori was frowning in puzzlement, as if trying to make heads or tails of what she was reading.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Before Yuzuki finished, Kai had nodded and said, "oh? yeah?" several times. His face had brightened considerably since the start of their conversation. At the question, Kai let Yoroko finish before answering himself.

"Powered Armor piloting is a lot like being regular infantry, with a uniform more powerful than a tank. The thing does whatever you want, just as you'd like it to be done, but better than you could ever do it yourself. The ability to fly is a very welcome bonus, giving you just one more edge over the competition, unless they of course are also packing powered armor. My favorite part is the feeling of empowerment and the ease of use of the things. Though I wish I could pilot a fighter, Yamatai doesn't field any that I would enjoy flying." Kai shrugged, then quieted down when the Taisa entered the room, looking at her a moment before deciding it was safe to turn back to Yuzuki.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yuzuki was poised to stand, the moment she noticed the Taisa entering the room. She waited for someone to call them to attention, but it never happened that way. For the most part, Yuzuki had very little experiance with the Taisa, but it seemed that a lot of the protocol Yuzuki had come to understand was commonplace, wasn't.

Easing back down and trying to relax, she looked back to Kai, then over to Yoroko.

"Unless you are using an armor or fighter with plating designed to absorb radio waves. Most stealth armors have them. We have a few on-board. Why?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yukari ordered Miharu to call Masako again. The three Samurai finally entered as well, taking their seats. They appeared as alert as ever, but their faces were non-descript.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton offered Tom a smile before settling back down to wait for Kotori's arrival. The discussion being made by the crew kept Nyton occupied while he waited for the meeting to begin. It was only a short moment later when Kotori arrived. He stood up to call everyone to attention but her quick entrance was so abrupt he found himself unable to do so. Instead, the pile of datapads that held her attention appeared to be the more pressing issue. "Er, Kotori-sama is there something the matter here?" he asked.
