Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate
Yuzuki looked up and examined Nao briefly. But she did not linger on her long; her next words were delivered walking.
"You're part of the team staying on the ship," Yuzuki stated, simply, "So, I am afraid for now our job is to wait."
They stopped in front of the three large displays forward of the main gravimetric array. She folded her arms around the helmet of her AMES, nestling it against her stomach while she stared at them as if she were somewhere else, in some other time or place. Her eyes, their light and glittering blue seeming much more pale in the dance of the neon electric readings, gained a remarkably ghostly quality. Then, as if remembering she were being watched, the etheral being that had taken Yuzuki's place turned her head slightly and took the rest of them in with an ephemeral smile.
"Freeman-Juni has confirmed the roles you were assigned," she said over her shoulder, "But I will explain them anyway. If you are in power armor right now, you are a sentry. You report to Ichigo-Heisho, who will be leading the defense in this case, and she will divide you into teams as necessary. I do not know much about security, myself, but I assume you will be focused around the two control points - the Bridge, and here in engineering."
"Those of you in environmental suits are under me, and we are the damage control team. I am not sure if the Juni will take control of us himself, or what he plans to do, but..."
She lifted a hand and the displays changed. Where-ever her hand moved, the indicator upon the screen trailed, until she finally selected a small window on the left display. The damage control chart - a three-dimensional representation of the entire ship broken down deck-by-deck - filled all the displays and spread wide, turning slowly in their view.
"This is our map. We will respond to mechanical casualties as they happen. Our goal is to keep this ship combat-capable at all cost, even if it means throwing away lives to do it."
She let her hand drop. Against the backdrop of the glow from the displays, her silhouette seemed insignifigant. Yuzuki felt her blood run cold and knew that, to anyone else, she would be pale as a sheet. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
Tilting her head back to stare upwards, as if through the deck, she sighed. In that sigh, she tried to let out all of her anxiety, and release her fear. It didn't work well, but at least her heart slowed a little. She flexed her hand, feeling between her fingers the memory of hair. It made her smile again for a moment.
Yuzuki donned her helmet. Her short hair gave her no difficulty; only her ears made it uncomfortable. She adjusted the helmet slightly so that she would have a little breathing room, then attached it to the rest of the AMES suit.
"When the Juni returns, we will cut all superficial systems save those in the bridge and bring all of our generators, weapons systems, and defensive grids online. Until then, check each other over."
