Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"I am getting the mock command, yes." Miharu acknowledged, before the cautioning the Nepleslian: "This area is wreaking havoc on my sensors despite the adjustments made. Nekos with digital minds might be able to cope, but the human brain - even with cybernetics - wasn't made with this in mind. I encourage you to use the heightened sensory input sparingly and to rely most of the time on the instrumentation."

Before Nyton could frame an answer to that, Sanri peeked in on the bridge. "Excuse me, Sir... I think there's a situation in Hoshi's medlab. Perhaps you could step out a moment to deal with it?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Taking note of Sanri's entry Nyton began to stand up but not before transmitting another signal. Then I'll force myself to endure. Thank you for the caution.

"Very well I will be right there." Nyton said as he took a few seconds to properly disengage himself. He disabled the link appropriately so as not to strain it any further than it apparently already was. With that done he unplugged the cable and set things down next to the console.

"Now then what is this situation?" the Nepleslian asked as he began walking towards the medlab with the sprite in tow.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Sanri explained as they walked. "Well, I was waiting for my turn with the ST backup machine when this naked, uncouth man emerged from the HS tank and demanded to know who we were and what was going on."

As they came across the medlab's entry, Nyton saw that the way was blocked by many sprites whom were staring incredulously inside. When Sanri shooed them further aside, Nyton was able to take a look inside...

...and he saw a wet Asher Orkin Westwood sitting on the medical bed, using a white towel to dry himself.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton's strained his eyes somewhat before realizing who it was he was looking at. Although it was possible, the fact that it had happened simply should not be. Regardless he had to solve this and stepped in to determine the meaning of events. He looked at one of the nurses and motioned her over. "Nurse, examine the logs and determine when the process was initiated." he ordered before moving in to address the main event.

Walking into the medlab Nyton addressed the freshly released Asher and regarded him with a stern tone. "Westwood-Hei, I need a status update. What is the last thing you remember?" he asked.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Oh, what the fuck? Asher thought as he rested on the bed, patting away the wetness on his body with the towel. One moment, he was fresh from the skirmish with the Meng Po, and now he's awoken years later. He didn't exactly like the fact of how the people remembered being in the room weren't there. Catching the gaze of the sprites, he winked at them, finding their expression almost adorable, something to take his mind of the current situation for a second. He went back to drying himself, the fact that he may have died crossed his mind, but figured that was something he'd save for the next piece of brass that would come gracing his way.

That piece of brass, Nyton Claymere, walked in on him. The red-eyed Yamataian looked up at the cyborg in wonder. Before remembering the fact that officers required the rapt attention of an enlisted man. He hopped up, naked, towel dropping on the bed.

"Sir, I wass' gettin' an ST back-up after that scuffle with the Meng-Po, sir! I got tha' helmet t'prove it!" Asher grinned, referring to the Black Mindy helmet he had severed from it's owner.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The sprite helping the others to go through their ST backup looked over the instrumentation and then answered Nyton: "The respawning procedure was initiated while everyone was getting ready for the briefing, Sir."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

So he's reset at that point in life. Could be worse I suppose. Nyton thought to himself before looking at Asher's indisposed condition. "At ease soldier and get that towel back on. No sense getting anyone interested now, we don't exactly have the time to waste for that." he said before looking over at another sprite who seemed to be wasting time staring. "Hey, if you have time to gawk then you have time to get him a uniform. On the double."

"The respawning procedure was initiated while everyone was getting ready for the briefing, Sir."

"Who initiated it and under what authority. I want to know everything about this occurance." he replied.

Nyton crossed his arms and looked at the towel clad man for a second. "Unfortunately your arrival is at a bad time. We're about to begin an operation of intense proportions. If you want to hack it out and see things through that is up to you otherwise you can take a more supportive role elsewhere. Unfortunately you missed out on quite a bit not to mention that your restoration is under rather unusual circumstances."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher nodded to his commander and grasped the towel on the bed, wrapping it around his waist. When he tightened up the knot of the towel, he looked back at Nyton with a smirk.

"Supportive Role, sir? If you mean by pullin' anotha' crazy ass Mindy offa' ya' like I did on tha' Meng Po, then yeh', I'll do that." Asher chuckled, trying to lighten up the mood of the situation up with some humor.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The gawking sprite picked up her jaw and ran off to get the requested uniform.

Meanwhile, the other sprite medic tapped away at her console and smiled awkwardly back at Nyton. "Um, Sir? From what I can tell, the respawning process happened all on its own. It seems it was Hoshi herself."

Hinoto, whom was in the line of people waiting for an ST backup, went wide-eyed and blurted out "Did not!" in protest.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Making her way to Masako with the help of Miharu's internal systems, Kyou paused before walking up to her to speak. "Um... Kurohoshi-Juni? I'm not sure exactly what I should be doing now that I'm done with my back-up. Is the armor wing going to meet up to talk, or should I just go ahead and start getting my armor an' everything ready now?" She looked at her feet, slightly self-conscious that everyone else seemed to know what they should be doing and she had no idea.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Once Kai had walked away, Kotori had her eyes linger a moment later at the retreating figure of the yamataian man before she returned her attention to Yuzuki, awarding her a fond smile for the sprite's patience.

"I apologize for the interruption, Yuzuki. What did you want to tell me?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom had listened intently during the briefing. The gravity of the operation was enormous, but by now, enormity was the norm for Miharu. The so-called 'draconian measures' to be undertaken, however, made a sour pit in his stomach.

The Taisa was right. They needed numbers, and the only way to get those numbers was to reuse the crew as necessary. In fact, Tom thought darkly, suicide runs would probably be tactically sound decisions under certain conditions.

He coughed into a closed fist, hoping his disgust at such thoughts would cause the bile to empty from his stomach.

But the mission was more important than how he felt, and if fulfilling the mission meant being one step closer to going home, then he'd walk through fire to get it done. He swallowed hard, put on a face of steel and nodded to the Taisa for a moment of her time after she finished with Yuzuki.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton's eyes tracked the medic and Hinoto upon her outburst while listening to Asher's usual cocky swagger. He gave a slight smile this time. "I have an idea as to what may have happened, Hinoto-san. Don't take affront to what has occurred." he said before readdressing his focus on Asher.

"Westwood-Hei, you are free to suit up and join us for battle. However before you do then you should at the least be aware of the unusual circumstances of your arrival. Hinoto-san, come with us. I will need some insight while we discuss this matter in private." he told them as he motioned for them to follow. Nyton figured they could discuss this in his room since no one would be there to interrupt. And in the meantime he could give Asher one of his own uniforms to wear in the meantime. On his way he then sent a quick quiet message over to Kotori to inform her of this latest turn of events. The message would stay sealed and have a 'For Your Eyes Only' marking on it to inform her to view it privately.

Code:
Kotori-sama I wish to inform you that our medlab has unexpectedly restored Asher Orkin Westwood among us. I am currently bringing him to my room to determine what to do with him. Please provide a little guidance on this matter. I do not want to promise him something we cannot deliver.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Hinoto stopped Nyton from leading Asher away very far. "Sir, we can't parade him half-naked through the ship. We should go to my room: it's closer and I'll notify the person you sent to fetch him clothes to meet us there."

Kotori's telepathic reply to his message was nearly instantaneous. "It is highly irregular, but for now his experience may be a valuable asset for Masako. We can deal with the problem his presence here could legally cause after the mission."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Sleep was at a bit of a premium for Miyoko these days--with the vast secrets of the datacore available for decryption, the only limiting factor was how much time she was willing to put into combing it. Past the first day, though, she had found sharply diminishing returns. While some of the data in it could likely prove valuable to the empire in the long run, at the moment, she only wanted information that could potentially make the battle at the gate less lethal, and that was in short supply.

The night before the briefing, though, she'd gotten enough sleep. "If I'm going to die tomorrow," she'd told her data recorder ten hours before the briefing, "I'm sure as hell going to be well-rested when it happens." Of course, with soul transfer technology, there was still a very good chance that it wouldn't be much of a death... but she'd always had her own aversions to losing hours or days of her life, let alone all the less concrete concerns it raised.

Hours later, those same aversions made her flinch at Kotori's unique policy toward deaths in battle. With any luck, it wouldn't come into play, but it still wasn't a nice thing to contemplate. The moment the briefing finished, though, she didn't make a break for the medbay to get her backup. The logical side of her mind insisted that there would be a line and that she'd have to wait if she went now... while the more emotional half just wasn't in a rush to go anywhere at the moment. As people started filtering out of the room, Miyoko rose and leaned on the back of her chair, looking out the viewports at the Blue Rift thoughtfully.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Very well after you then, Hinoto-san." Nyton replied. Upon arriving inside Hinoto's room and shutting the door he immediately began to run down the situation to Asher. "Westwood-Hei, your arrival is very fortuitous. The Taisa welcomes your experience and abilities in the upcoming battle as do I. However you should be aware that your appearance is somewhat unorthodox. The reason for this is because you did not die. Your 'self' was reassigned and sent elsewhere at his request. You are an illegal clone which right now is very far away from the jurisdiction of Yamataian law."

With another breath Nyton continued. "We are about to assault the final stronghold of the Daughters of Eve. We expect a serious battle, one which we expect may have serious casualties. I will ask you again; are you willing to participate in this dangerous operation that even if you survive may not even allow you to return to the life you currently know?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

To be afraid, in most languages, usually translated to being filled with fear or apprehension. Fear of death itself, apprehension to the thought of hurtling oneself towards a situation which would result in death...yes, it was fair to say that Sanjuro Ashitaka was afraid of what lay ahead of the Miharu. With such a grim scenario laid before him, how could he not expect what the Taisa had already admitted would likely happen? He'd felt this sort of feeling only a select few times prior to the briefing...the Miharu's mission on Bowhordia had indeed put his sweat glands, chilled to their very cores, to rigorous work. The simulations he was forced to endure during his training also only managed to further prove to himself that he was, without a doubt, not a very courageous individual. So when the Taisa had finished explaining the dire mission, Sanjuro could only sigh and slump into his chair as he slowly accepted the reality of the situation...and the reality of the consequences should they fail.

The one respite that Sanjuro had in fear was his work. On Bowhordia he had been able to cope with the resounding terror by busying himself with the injuries of the prisoners. If only his determination was so flexible as to allow him to utilize it in places other than his immediate career, Sanjuro admitted to himself. He wasn't quite sure if his work, as enjoyable as it was, would be enough to overcome this "suicidal" scenario...but what he was sure about was that, at that moment, there was work to be done. Work that he only had a mere hour to fully accomplish...and in Sanjuro's overwhelmingly high standards, being an hour early was already grounds for serious demerit.

As Miyoko gazed wistfully away through the viewports, her view of the vivid blue wisps of nebula would quickly become replaced with contrasting green of Sanjuro's perfectly-kept uniform.

"Saito-Hei," the medical officer spoke firmly, looking down at her with his usual less-than-happy demeanor. As he spoke again, Sanjuro's question seemed more like a demand than a request for help. "You don't look particularly busy. Would you care to assist me in the medical bay with the Soul Transfers?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher felt a little dragged around as he shuffled bare foot across the med-bay. The Santo-Hei didn't really understand what was the problem with his naked presence, yet it seemed an issue.

"M'kay." Asher answered plainly, stroking his goatee into a spike.

For a moment, it appeared that the Yamataian was actually considering the deeply thought situation that Nyton had presented him with. Though, being one who never cared all to much about those sort things forced him to scratch his head in frustration. He looked up at the towering officer, and shook his head.

"Damn, boss, you make it sound like I don't live f'this shit! I joined Yamatai f'missions like this." Asher grinned, an aura of confidence clearly permeating from his stance as expression, "I don't a fuck 'bout legal pretense. Nor do I give a fuck 'bout life after this."

He seemed to settle down for a moment, trying not to strain the bounds of the informalness between them.

"Boss, battle iss' tha' only time I eva' feel alive. If my life iss'only for tha' next few hours, then I'd be stupid not to take this chance." Preached the war-hungry man. He looked down at his towel, and then up at Nyton.

"But really, though, do I need a uniform if I'm juss' gunna' have t'put on an armor in a few minutes?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

(Before the briefing)

The Shosa tugged her grey gloves tightly over her fingers.

She wore the one stretch bodysuit uniform she owned, with the top part of her Type 30B uniform over that, complete with patches and rank pin. Her plasma revolver was strapped to her right thigh, and her Type 28A NSP was just forward of her left hip in the crossdraw position. Small pouches on her left thigh belt, courtesy of Miharu, contained two extra battery magazines for her NSP. Just front of her right hip, a small cartridge holder with six extra rounds for her revolver. Her communicator she clipped to her left hip, behind her NSP.

As she started braiding her hair, sitting on the edge of the sleeping pit, Yukari checked off her other preparations. Her headset was at her station on the bridge. So were a few nutrition bars, in case she required them. She had used the bathroom, showered, picked out a breakfast. Her weapons were loaded and ready. Her mind was primed for combat.

Her dual ribbons, made into one, were around her neck. She smiled every time she thought of them.

She finished the other braid, each ended with green bands. Her thick, wavy hair made the braids less flexible than Sanri's loose tails, but Yukari also had shorter hair, and she'd put them farther back on her head. Her braids only came to just above her shoulder blades, swept behind her.

Miharu provided a simulated mirror in front of and behind Yukari. They are not pigtails, but they do keep the hair out of my face, and they are actually comfortable. She hoped Kotori liked them.

(Post-briefing)

Yukari considered the two things the Taisa left out of her briefing: The NH-23 and her own 'Signaler' function. The NH-23 granted Miharu independence from PANTHEON, and was a 'back-up' ... but with Eve's forces before them, and Kotori conspicuously leaving her own power out of the equation, Yukari wanted answers pinned down, not floating before her like so many image panels.

However, when was Kotori — either Kotori — ever forthright about things involving herself?

For a moment, she wished she did not love them, even contemplating hating them. Hate was so much easier to expel in the face of death when compared to love.

I will not die. I love too many to die, neh, Chiharu-sama?

She left the briefing without speaking to Kotori, seeing she was occupied with Yuzuki, Kai and Tom. Instead, she talked to some of the sprites as they went to the Medical Bay to have their ST work done. Junko was in bright spirits, as were some of the other sprites. They were ready to serve, and it made Yukari happy to agree with their eagerness.

Nyton and Sanri went by her as she walked to the bridge. When she entered, she was alone. She put on her headset, activated the visor, and silently dove into preparing for battle.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Masako had heard about what had happened recently. She had heard the sprites talking about how Nyton had pretty much urged Tsuya into attacking him. Grimacing slightly, the smaller Neko tried to mask it as best she could. While she didn't approve of the way he handled it, the raven-haired Warrant Officer was still under his command. Commenting upon his methods in front of enlisted wasn't a proper thing to do.

"Of course," she replied to Tsuya a few moments before Kyou showed up. "Ah, Gunshin-hei." the Warrant Officer greeted with a cute smile. "Go around and gather the other armor personnel, ask Miharu for help if you are having trouble finding them, but tell everyone that we're meeting in the Port-side Armor Bay on the Hoshi. We'll get into some more in-depth information once everyone has gathered."
