Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Leave the ship's operation to the Miharu's crew," 'Zero' replied. "We'll return fire as soon as we can."

Yukari's sensor suite detected activity in both multi-function bays: sprites were preparing both fightercrafts to launch.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miyoko darted into the bridge, taking up position next to Yukari with her rifle trained on the door. She was starting to get jumpy--dashing into combat was one thing, but walking through the ship with no indication of where an attack could come from was something else entirely. At least the heated combat route got things over with quickly, one way or another.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari noted the launching of fighters -- armors could show up there as well, but was there anyone to spare? If they spread themselves too thin, they would be destroyed piecemeal, but without some kind of cover fire protecting the ship, all was moot anyway.

The fighters should launch quickly and without harassment, Yukari reasoned -- but this was Kotori operating the simulation. It could be a test.

Hesitation seemed to operate that way -- always a test, always timed. And Kotori did enjoy her tests. Possibly sacrifice one member of a support team for all, or let fighters be threatened by an enemy her sensors could not find at all?

"Acknowledged, Zero," she said. No. She had to trust in them, and trust the others. She was not a power armor commander.

Yukari's telepathy said:
Bishop One, bridge secure, but I cannot return fire from here. Two starfighters are launching to assist us.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton read Yukari's response and fired back an inquiry.

Roger that Pawn 1. Can you still launch weapon pods to cover and assist the fighters?

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

As they soared up the passageway, Fire Team 1 could see the smoke billowing out of the bow-side of the upper deck. Though the smoke was an hindrance to visibility, Tom found value in it as it allowed him to spy the motion of an enemy power armor as it swiftly moved through it.

A barked warning from the Yamataian helped Masako stop short from a gout of white death which streaked past her and down at the ventral airlock of the ship, scarring the hatches below - she had not registered anything on her sensors! The firing of the aetheric weapon chased away some of the smoke, revealing the enemy to them.

It was the first time Mizuno had seen anything a Mindy like it - she could swear no technical readouts she ever read had such a model: it was a Mindy, plated with ink-black zesuaium; bearing oversized kneepads, pauldrons and elbowguards - all bearing wickedly long spikes; they held aetheric saber-rifles similarly to them; had optional missile pods on their lower legs and a big sweeping black cape with some sort of spirallish pattern over it.

...compared to the Miharu's blue-and-gray armored power armors, their antagonists probably had more right to call themselves 'Black Knights' than they did. They looked the part too!

The parting smoke also revealed three other of the 'Black Mindy' power armors, clinging to the walls and ceiling. Their enemies - still stubbornly refusing to register over sensors, leapt into action: they began firing their saber-rifle weapons in machinegun mode as their missile packs flared! Mizuno's drones immediately began firing to take out the hostile warheads... but even then, they were still twenty coming at them!

* * *

As Asher and his group climbed the stairs in the portside Multi-Function Bay, they could hear chimes as the platform where the Uriko bomber - now loaded and ready - made a hovering descent to bring the fighter out on the ventral side.

Then 'FWOOMPS' filled the air as a group of four of the Black Mindy power armors teleported into the room, hovering in mid-air. Missiles hissed out of their legpacks and struck over the Uriko, tearing at armor plates. One of the enemy suits literally pounced over the cockpit as the damaged craft rocked and drove her aetheric blade through the canopy to ruin the cockpit assembly (and likely kill the sprite pilot inside).

Another landed over the bay's floor and took aim with her saber-rifle in anti-personnel mode, firing quick shots meant to take out the sprite armored. Little gray bodies fell to the ground in simulated death.

The two others turned their aetheric rifles over the members of the second fire team and fired. Luckily, even if they didn't register over their AIES' radar, the missile explosions had at warned Asher, Kai and Yuril enough so to not catch them by surprise.

* * *

The Miharu shook violently yet another time and then her frame rattled with attacks. The Meng Po came for another run, targeting with her main cannon the experimental vessel's yet undamaged gravimetric engine array, but the Miharu used her reaction control thrusters to rotate the vulnerable unshielded engine out of the weapon's path. When the Nozomi scout fired, the destructive white pulse of energy instead struck the port side of the rollbar, tearing a hole through the thinner armor there to then strike over the zesuaium plates covering the 'roof' of the wardroom.

Miharu shuddered from the damage, and then her frame rattled as the Meng Po's weapon pods raked again over her dorsal side - yet damaging more armor over the rollbar and over the nose of the Hoshi.

Nyton and Yukari got damage reports following that. Armor integrity evaluation showed the rollbar and dorsal armor were redlining, the Hoshi's armor was still holding up... but it was much preferable if no anti-ship weapons ever hit there. The damage to the rollbar had knocked out a third of the ship's weapon pod launchers (again) while those left were still priming themselves for deployment. Armor plates slid away as the turreted particle cannons rose and charged, but they couldn't immediately fire as the Black Spiral vessel flew past them.

Internal sensors detected the destruction of both the Uriko and the Ryusei fighters as they were about to launch, but no signs of the attackers themselves. To compensate, the sprites were also readying the Cougar shuttles for launch... but with enemies nearby they would likely be taken down before the hangar door ever managed to open.

The AIES network answered some concerns for the Miharu's MEGAMI:
"Hoshi's sensor suite and auxiliary FCS have taken over. Other torpedoes are being loaded - Chibi-MEGAMI probe will require unloading first. Weapon pods configured and launching in 10. Internal forcefields and holographic feint standing by."
But to the mention of the invisible boarders, Miharu protested about that herself: "Main sensors are out and I can't counter the Meng Po's ECM jamming. The only thing we have left are the Daisy C's to-Shimatta!"

Miharu quickly fed Nyton and Yukari an image to go with the curse. The Meng Po's Nodal Integrated Nodal System was shown standing over the ventral side of the Hoshi, firing her aether gattling cannon at the particle turret which had just emerged. The turret withered under repeated attacks and turned into so much useless wreckage.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Sora moved deeper into the Hoshi's med bay as she felt the ship shake. She frowned inside of the helmet her Daisy as she waited but she was grateful as she did her search that it was clear. She sent a short, quick encrypted telepathic message to Yukari and Nyton.

Sora's telepathy said:
Bishop One, Pawn One, Queen One is in position and clear.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari cursed at the armor readouts, the fact the NIWS was present and at her choice of protective target. The disabling of the Uriko had occurred as predicted; not that an armor could have stopped the group of Black Mindy armors or bought any time without being killed.

Tactically, the Black Mindy armors were doing everything right. Disable the weapons, keep destroying the Miharu's armor, wear the enemy down with its considerable advantages in firepower. Why could she not register the armors with her tachyon sensors? It did not make sense ... unless they, like her, had Xiulurium-coated armor. There was no way to know. It did not matter; the ship was going to be destroyed at this rate. Someone needed to attack it from outside -- someone with more firepower than a Daisy. But Nyton had his tactics.

The support team appeared to be rather useless for now.

Yukari's AIES said:
Bishop One, I cannot control the Miharu, Hoshi or any other ship-oriented functions.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Asher grinned widely as his opponents appeared to his display, the Hei kicked up his left forearm shield, and pulled into cover.

"Spread out, find cover! Focus fire on tha' Black Mindies kickin' tha' sprites and tha' shuttle! I'll focus on Dingus n' Dongus ova' there!" Asher said with obvious excitement in his tone. He then used his AIES to relay the names to his squad. The two Mindies trying to attack them were labeled Dingus and Dongus, the one that sabered the shuttle, labeled as Shut, and the one that focused it's fire on the armored sprites, labeled as Sprite.

The Hei was more than over-joyed when he laid out his Gauss Cannons and began to open fire on the armors: Dingus and Dongus, his forearm shields still up.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Kai pulled up his shield, firing a few missiles then activating the active camo, which had by now become instinct, whether or not it was useful here. As he did so, Kai jumped to the left so as not to be a stationary target. The Yamataian made sure to fire at the one labeled 'sprite' in an attempt to save any of the sprites that were remaining. He knew his Daisy armor was technically inferior to these Mindys, but that didn't stop him from doing any of this.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

What the?!?! Yoroko thought as she saw the black mindies coming out of the smoke. Before Yoroko could think about much else missiles and aether fire were coming at her from the direction of the mindies.

Yoroko mentally signaled her AIES to launch a group of flares as needed to assist the NSB's with stopping the warheads from reaching her. As soon as she sent the signal to her AIES Yoroko locked her gauss cannons in position and took aim at two different mindies, making sure that no friendlies were in her line of fire, and fired a three round burst from each cannon at the target.

"What are these things?!" Yoroko asked as she fired, as soon as the rounds had been expelled from her cannon's Yoroko activated both of her forearm shields in order to reduce the blow of the next attack as well as reduce damage from any missiles that managed to make it through.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

As Sanjuro followed Sora into the medical bay, the doctor suddenly found himself slightly distracted by his surroundings. The simulation chamber was remarkably efficient as mapping the finer details of the equipment in the medical station...enough to take Sanjuro's mind off of the situation.

Only for a moment, however, as the sudden shaking of the ship caused Sanjuro to fluster out of his lull as he whirled around to the doorway, plasma rifle pointed at the empty air. The Medical Officer was beginning to find himself a little flustered by the situation before him as he quickly reassured himself and recomposed his figure.

"...what should we do now, Ke-....Queen 1?" Sanjuro asked as he quickly shot a glance at the Ketserui at the other end of the room, keeping his weapon trained on the doorway as he did.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton raised his eyebrows as his pulse quickened before a grin briefly flashed. He was excited and several thoughts wanted to wash through his mind.

Kotori really is going all out with this. This will be interesting. I still wish I was in a PHALANX right now though. he thought before he pushed all of his concentration onto the event at hand.

First he fed an image of the Black Mindy to the rest of the Support and Auxiliary teams so that they can identify just what they were fighting. The image highlighted the enemy's apparent weapon payload, hard points, and estimated combat capacity based on what had just been witnessed by the Fire teams.

At the same time he began to send messages while he thought out some way to deal with the worsening situation. Even as it was happening he attempted to analyze everything at one time to try and push forth information as fast and simultaneously as he could. This message would go out to everyone to warn them of their limitation.

ATTENTION: This is Bishop 1. Sensors have been jammed and made ineffective. We cannot detect the enemy for certain beyond visual. The ship cannot accurately locate the enemy and we are severely limited in our awareness.

We need some way to secure all these rooms but without stretching our personnel thin. Nyton then thought briefly before an idea dawned upon him. This message went to Yukari.

The small blue line indicated the direction which the explosion should take. The sensor would only have to be set to detect an object emerging from the room. Engineering remained clear in the event they had to enter from outside to stop an assault there.

More urgent matters also pressed in his mind and Nyton began to feel as though he were suffering multiple personalities as his attentions divided to so many critical items at one time. The situation with Fire Team 1 was intense as the entire force of enemy Mindys pounced them. Then again Fire Team 2 required urgency so he messaged as fast as he could simultaneously. The following message went to Hoshi, Yukari, and Fire Team 1.

This message went to Hoshi and Fire Team 2.

There were still four Mindys unaccounted for in the standard payload of the Nozomi class vessel. Unfortunately the NIWS was and creating more pressure for the beleagured defenders. Nyton knew it would also have to be addressed. However he still was not sure just what they could do about it. He needed options.

Hoshi, is the tractor beam operational? Can we use that to grab the NIWS from our hull and position it in front of our main canon? Maybe at the least rip it to pieces and slow it down so it goes into a regenerative mode?

As soon as all the messages were sent out Nyton narrowed his features and drew a colder expression as he readied for combat. "Auxiliary Team, stand by and go to active camoflauge. We're going to support Fire Team One. We move on my signal." he commed to his team before charging the Active Camoflauge and blending in with his surroundings.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari gave a silent thanks to the fact she had a Nekovalkyrja brain; her Yamataian one, she felt, would be overwhelmed by the possibilities of Nyton's deluge of orders and data. It separated her from him, she knew.

Hoshi was not a miracle worker. Her confidence surged briefly; if the problem was the Meng Po jamming their sensors, the MEGAMI unit on the Nozomi-class would not fall to an AIES-and-CIES unit combination. And she was told she could not control Hoshi anyway ... but she had to try.

"Hoshi, can you boost the ability of my tachyon sensor package to cut through the jamming?"

In the meantime, she was not about to sacrifice members of her Support Team to protect areas that she could not protect well anyway. And to take the time to create such a cumbersome set of devices was unrealistic. But his idea of monitoring those doors with something ... that indeed was possible.

"Missiles," she said, waving away the messages with a turn of her head and toward her legs. "We need missiles. Pawn Two, unload two from your leg launchers; Ichigo-san, two from yours as well; I will unload four of mine. Hurry! We must set and place them in a specific fashion!"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"We wait, Queen Two. We might be having incoming casualties, so be ready," Sora said very quietly to Sanjuro as she knelt down behind a counter and raised her rifle over top of it. she forced herself to be still as she aimed her rifle at the door, feeling slightly more secure behind some sort of cover.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miyoko was completely baffled as to what Yukari wanted with her missiles, but she wasn't about to argue... not after Nyton's picture of the black Mindy. She quickly unloaded two of the canisters and sat them on the floor, still not entirely able to pull her eyes away from the doorway. She desperately wanted to ask if the Shosa had some plan--anything to help calm her nerves down--but also didn't want to interrupt her train of thought by asking.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"R-right. Copy. Roger," Sanjuro replied as he shot a glance back at the doorway. When he noticed Sora taking cover herself, Sanjuro stumbled over a few sets of protruding objects as he attempted to duck behind behind his own set of equipment in an attempt to match, quickly swinging his weapon back towards the entryway when he was situated.

Sanjuro didn't comment beyond that...although he certainly didn't like the 'waiting' part. Only seconds after he found a comfortable position the medical officer began to glisten only slightly at the brow. Although the powered armor around him didn't show it, Sanjuro quivered slightly every so often. In his mind, Sanjuro quickly noted to himself that he still did not like armor combat.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari held her missiles and held them in her arms in a bundle — not the most efficient way of handling them, but it would do.

"The enemy will be upon us took quickly; we must improvise these missiles as door traps. Hoshi, activate hallway forcefields on my command, please. Ichigo-san, give your missiles to Pawn Two."

Yukari quickly slaved the missiles' tiny computer systems to her AIES, and reprogrammed them to explode on a proximity basis with a half-second delay — they would have to detect either air pressure or an energy signature. It was crude, and the Mindy armors could avoid it, but she was short on time, and it would have to work for now.

"The missiles are set by me, and will activate once they are placed. Put one at the foot of each door — " Yukari conjured a diagram of their location similar to Nyton's " — Until you are out, Pawn Two. You will follow me back from the bottom. We will then reclaim our positions in the bridge. Mara-san, on the ceiling please; cover each door with an aether rifle, and we will handle the rest."

The port-side door opened for Yukari. "Quickly now, we must hurry." Inside her armor, Yukari floated to the door of the engine room and took up the best defensive position she could out in the open. Her missiles were clutched against her chest.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Right!" Mara flipped over and landed on the ceiling in a crouch. "Will we-" Nimura's Mindy II choose that moment to vanish. She was gone. "Eh?"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miyoko nodded and wordlessly began placing the missiles, hesitating only long enough to have her AIES inform her of their explosive profile so that she could place them correctly. The less time she spent out in the open, the better. She was nervous enough when she only had one door to worry about enemies entering through. Besides, she'd never known Yukari to be a demolitions expert--carrying around several pounds of explosives that she'd jury-rigged was just all the more reason to finish the job quickly.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari had Miyoko move with her as she set her missiles. The plan was not foolproof by any stretch, but with any luck, the missiles would warn them of the presence of enemy Mindy armors, if not damage them some. When the pair returned, Yukari instructed Hoshi to set the force field barriers with the missiles in place.

"Pawn Two, cover the port door from on the starboard wall, up about two meters -- they hopefully will not expect that firing angle. I will do the same from the port wall to the starboard door."
