Uniform Updates for the Star Army of Yamatai

Think of all the money that the SA would save on laundry! Not wearing trousers is clearly the greatest idea since Marius reformed the legions, not to mention it would makes things even more conveniant upon the Sakura. One less layer of clothing to strip away!

That aside:

My personal opinion on the matter is that any member of a armed force is representative of their nation, and the service

With the SA I actually think that would be best done without trousers ...

Hey, what do people think of a female Star Army uniform consisting of the male-style jacket with a pleated skirt for the bottom?

Will the skirt be short and plad? and the male jacket be excessively tight?

Sounds good to me. However is it really practical for physically demanding situations?
Pleated skirts are very practical. The pleats allow them to expand so they do not constrict the movements of the wearer the way normal skirts do.

No, the skirt would be navy blue or the same color as the male pants. The jacket would be fitted, but not tight.

How dull... I think the current uniforms are just fine though. Maybe the skirt versions could use a variation, but otherwise "Don't fix what ain't broken."

Maybe just sanction it as an additional acceptable variation of the female Star Army uniform? (I know the whole point is to be "uniform", but a variation upon the male uniform should be fine.)

Since the Nekos can pretty much "wear" anything they want to with little effort, you can boost morale by giving them more choices as to what they wear on duty.

I maintain that Nekos have a very conformist culture and society. But wearing different variations of the uniform should be an acceptable form of self-expression.

I can see the jacket-and-skirt variant being popular among the Yamataian crew.

I still believe it depends on the situation, even for enlisted personnel.

Maybe some sort of guideline? How about this:
away mission: definitely yes, required
onboard, on duty OR shore-leave: ask your CO
onboard, off duty: strongly discouraged, definitely no if you're gonna go drinking!

Now that we have had this discussion, I agree that making the enlisted crew wear their sidearms all the time is silly. :D

How about for maximum stealth we simply decide that the uniform for all Neko shall be actually a lack of the same?

I think that will be pleasant for all concerned. Those that for some reason have a moral objection can take it up with Rufus or Yui.

It'd make it easier for Tiffany to cosplay, but I don't think it makes a good military uniform because it isn't identifiable and provides no protection or carrying capacity.

Lots of skimpy bandoliers combined with ready access to AMES I think should counter that problem. Anyway they don't need protection on ship, and what are they going to be carrying?

I put up a poll. Please vote, everyone with Star Army of Yamatai characters. If you only play other factions, please ignore the poll.

I vote yes because technical sentries are responsible for ship safety and... well, not having a gun on a ship would make the said safety responsibilities of said technical sentries somewhat difficult. :)

As for off the ship... I always assumed Yamatai soldiers were peacekeepers as well. No problem with packing a gun in my opinion.

Voted to continue as things were because I found Tom's argument compelling... as well as me finding the two other alternatives not all that great.

I'd leave the obligation to wear firearms only on duty though. It's odd to prance around in a yukata with a gunbelt and all...

Yamatai vessels aren't situated for technical sentries or other red-paneled soldiers to have quick access to arms in case of a boarding. Guns still beat fists and rocks, so soldiers should still carry them.
