The desert heat washed out the hiss of coolant being cycled through pipes and vents as the gantryway of the Osiris lowered and the pressure equalized between ship and planet. It was empty for the most part, just a scattering of supply boxes and a portable crane folded up in one rounded corner of the landing pad.

It wasn't set inside a concrete crater, but the pad was screened off from the dust and dirt. The sky overhead soon darkened, but not with rainclouds; a dust storm was blowing through and it would be awhile before any ships would fly again, they would just have to wait it out.

The floor lit up, leading to the gantryway hatch, where Terry was already in his regular outfit and disembarking. The crew would probably be waiting at the usual hangout, Inferno Wind, a spacer's bar and hangout for mechanics and desert prospectors.

Valaad was dotted with mines dating back to before the Qel'noran ownership and its subsequent transfer to Yamataian control. Most of the people, as far as Terry was aware, were near-humans that passed themselves off as Yamataian, not by "upgrading" to the artificial bodies, but by means of various implants and neural enhancements. Some of those were not available to the average person, but some specialization was of course needed.

Terry liked to keep his appearance the way it was; he'd wait for Lucien and Kirio to get off of the ship and then take them to meet the rest of the crew, and then check the bulletins to see if there were any jobs available. By now customers would know to tag their request with the name of the ship and crew they would like to handle it, but the concept was still catching on.

Luicen awoke from his slumber, refreshed and ready to go... except for the fact that he didn't have anything to eat all day yesterday.
He quickly got dressed up in his casual clothing and headed out to the Galley of the Osiris with the aid of ANUBIS to lead the way.

Ach, I'm starved thin, Luicen thought to himself as he sat down at a table, "What to eat... I do believe I'll start with some eggs, mash potatoes and some sausage."

ANUBIS was quick to inform Lucien that there would be ample opportunity for food at the Inferno Wind, a meet and greet between the new and the old, and of course, something potent to drink.

ANUBIS pinged Terry's comm with a text message...which caused him to make a call out to a location on the planet's far side, setting events into motion.

"Now now, You'd be hungry if you hadn't eaten anything for all of yesterday!" Luicen replied to the AI as he served himself a healthy meal of Mashed potatoes, sausages, a slice of toast and a flipped egg and sat down to eat breakfast with gusto, "Tell Terry that--chomp!--I'll be ready once I--slurp!--polish this off!--crunch!--"

Luicen was very very hungry and this was very satisfying.
"I wonder where Kirio is?" Luicen asked himself as he put his egg on top of his toast and bit into it, "He must be out already..."

Enter the mischevious

That infernal storm had left Randy's precious ronin unable to fly. Being unable to fly seriously hurt business, after all he couldn't go 'hunting' for anything big with just his pistol.

Being stranded at a bar however left him with very little to complain about. He took drink after drink of booze running up his tab, all the while gambling at roulette so he could hopefully come away with some money to buy more booze.

A striking young woman dressed in what could only be described as plate mail with a rather large rifle slung on her back strode up to the roulette table, setting her drinking glass down on it and brushing her dark red hair back with one gloved hand while the other set a stack of credit chits on the table, indicating a number. She grinned, briefly visible on her outfit was a chromatically-emblazoned emblem: a cartouche, with the words Death and Rebirth stamped inside it.

"Mind if I throw my stake in?"

Once Luicen had finished breakfast, he began to make is way to the Inferno Wind. However, he didn't know where it was.
"ANUBIS, Could ya tell me where this 'Inferno Wind' pub is? I'm as sober as a clergyman and sharp as an army bayonet, and I plan on changing that!"

Place Yer Bets!

Randy's head tilted slightly, just enough so he could see this new mark out of his peripheral. His attention quickly returned to the roulette table, his sunglasses fixed on the spinning wheel.

"Fine with me doll face. As long as you're ok with losing your money."

That's an awfully big rifle on her back...

Back at the Osiris, ANUBIS was giving Lucien directions to the place to meet while at the place itself, the woman with the rifle was introducing herself as Emily, counteroperations specialist extraordinaire, but not what she actually did or where she worked. The rifle was, of course, used to hunt the largest of Valaad's indigenous creatures, and also a dangerous predator. If she shot a humanoid with it, that person would vanish in a spray of gore, since it fired explosive shells instead of bullets or particle beams.

All on red

Randy's focus not once shifted away from the roulette wheel. He seemed lost in thought watching the ball skip around wildly. His words however showed that he had heard her.

"Well Emily, counter-operations specialist extraordinaire, if you're not careful you'll end up havin' to hock that rifle on your back. Then what are you gonna have to protect yourself with?"

"Oh, a starship." She smirked, pulling some chits from the table. "It looks like I win." Emily sauntered away from the gambling device and towards a table, where Terry sat waiting for the rest of his crew to show up.

Shortly after recieving directions, Luicen made his way to the Inferno Wind, telling anubis to 'lock the ship' while he was gone.
Once Luicen had gotten inside the bar, he sat at a barstool, almost oblivious to Terry's presence.
"Two please," Luicen told the barman as he put some money on the counter.
He was given two flagons of beer, one of which he downed quickly, while waiting for Kirio or Terry to take the other.

Too drunk to care

Her reply caught his attention though he made sure not to show it.

So she has a starship.

His thoughts quickly changed when he heard her say she won.

Damnit, shoulda stuck with red.

Randy made his way to the bar to pick up some more drinks. While doing so he discretly looked at where the lass had went. There was another person with her, so the ship wasn't a lone fighter. He'd gamble and drink a little more waiting to see just how many people showed up to meet them.

One by one they gathered, sixteen people, one of whom caught Lucien's arm and dragged him away from the bar and towards Terry's table. Now the only one left to arrive was Kirio. Who was unexpectedly late in coming.

Luicen was dragged off with both of his beers in hand. One of them was nearly empty while the other was still full.
Luicen wasn't too thrilled by this, "Oi lad! Where are ye takin'--" Then he saw Terry and his crewmembers, "Oh, 'lo there Terry and crewmembers, pleased tae meet ya. I'm Luicen." He introduced himself as he gave a bow with a flourish of the arm.

Roulette Serious Business

13, 14, 15, 16, 17. A 17 man crew eh? Must be a decent sized ship at least. They could also be waiting for more, or trying to recruit here. They won't have any luck here though; there's been nothing to 'hunt' since I got here!

Perhaps I'll go...

His thoughts were once again interrupted by realizing he lost again.

"Cheating bastard! I saw you touch the wheel! I'll kill you, you cheating bastard, you just wait! I'm going to come back here with my gun and show you what happens to cheaters!"

Randy quickly stormed out of the bar and headed towards the ship docks.

The dealer merely flashed a grin at the receding figure of the man who claimed cheat. The people gathered were actually a bit surplus; only ten of them were actual crewmembers. The remaining from the lot were the people who had business to do with him, who preferred to meet away from public notice.

One might argue that a spacer's bar was public, but they were all pretty tightly knit. Most of them were honest people who preferred keeping to themselves, and wouldn't give away secrets without good reason. In short, the Inferno Wind was safe.

A Farce

As soon as he was out of the bar Randy returned to a casual pace and cold demeanor.

"Well now that that's out of the way, to the spaceport."

In reality he didn't care that he lost, in fact he wanted to. He was a stranger in these parts and didn't like people getting suspicious. That little act back there gave him a seemingly legitimate reason to leave, but he wasn't going to go get his gun. He was in truth going to go try to find which ship that group was piloting. Leaving like that also gave the added bonus of dodging his tab.

"Lucien!" He called out to the new crewmember. "Why the hell are you late and where the hell is Kirio?" He didn't like the fact that his new team members were oversleeping, and being late. It was...well he wasn't a military man, but it was still good to be on time.

Let's go car shopping

The docks didn't seem to be anything special, just landing pads with the bare minimum. It offered some protection from the sandstorm, but Randy had thrown a cover over his Ronin as an extra measure, with the cover weighed down with some cinder blocks. The thought of his precious little Ronin tucked away like the daughter he saw it as put a smile on his face.

Looking around there didn't seem to be much out of the ordinary. There were some civilian craft and transports but nothing big or extremely dangerous looking. Recounting the people at the bar, he guessed they were using one of the bigger transports.

One ship did catch his eye. A somewhat bulging 4 winged ship.

"I've never seen a ship like that. So ugly."
