Why are people reluctant to switch to a Yamataian body?

Yamatai is an elitist empire and body swapping is as normal as getting vaccinated. I can see this happening. Yeah it sucks for Nyton but this really does make sense. Besides, given how easy it is to do this whole body swap thing I can see why they do it for free. It is for the benefit of the empire. Even citizens would probably be 'highly recommended' to upgrade because by upgrading you contribute to the empire even moreso. After all, every citizen should give to the UTMOST of their abilities and you cannot do so without the upgrade. Those that don't would probably be ostrascized and forced to be outcast until they 'got with it' like a good loyal citizen should.

These people think outside of the box, or body as the case may be. When you cut right down to it, the end result is a good motivator to justify your means. Even the human form can be considered 'outdated' when you think about how limited and hampering it is. From reading the Sakura missions I'd say some thinking on these lines had been taken when the Misshu came to be since the more effective you want your bioweapon to be, the less human in appearance they seem to get. (Catgirls were just a cute beginning but eventually even the ears got phased out. Then in. Then out. I guess what's old is new again.)

Anyways, given the arguments presented I'd say that it makes sense to phase the Geshrin out and make Yamataians to be mandated as well, Yamataian. Nekos were originally meant to be the 'weapon' of the empire, so to speak, and would be pressed to fill the role of combat in the army. And even if it doesn't make sense, you know what? The grand Taisho can do this because the military is not a democracy. Sucks eh? ;p

Well, Nepleslia has Nepleslians, but Nekovalkyrja aren't allowed. It makes sense for Yamatai to have Nekovalkyrja, but not allow Nepleslians (in the military).

I'd think Nepleslia's players would be glad of this restriction, as future Nepelslian characters' players would be more likely to choose Nepleslia.

Personally, I like the direction this is going from the point of view of Nepleslia. Not to mention that the influx of NDI tech has allowed them to have assets which no longer make them look like the backward neighbors of the Yamatai Star Empire.

Additionally, there could be a program to accomodate long serving Geshrin and Nepleslian characters that the Star Army of Yamatai wouldn't want on the front lines, but would still want to give consideration to: the YSE has loaned a small fleet of mostly second-line vessels (vessels geshrins and nepleslians serving in the army would probably have experience with). Transfering those characters to that fleet allows to:

• Guarantee they still serve on a Star Army of Yamatai starship while working for the interest of Nepleslia.
• Add to the player base of Nepleslia, possibly making it possible to make a second plotship for them.
• Shore up the number of experienced personnel the Star Army of Nepleslia would have.
• Allow for smoother transition for players determined to remain 'human' to an Empire who actually cares about their services.

I think those not wanting to upgrade should just join Nepleslia's Star Army. I know most probably didn't even consider it, but at least I threw the idea out there.

Those ships weren't loaned, they were donated. They're crewed by Nepleslian forces.

There's NO WAY the Star Army is just going to GIVE AWAY its valuable soldiers to another nation's military. Nepleslia's been growing increasingly threatening and is buliding its own fleet. Yamatai isn't going to support the growth of their military. Not only that, but the idea of telling people who are defending their nation that they are being kicked out into another nation is ridiculous.

Kicked out? I was talking about them saying "Well screw this I'm gona go join the people who will accept me for what I am" and joining themselves.

My point is this. If you don't like the way things are done where you live, then you have a couple options. A: Deal with it and try to live with it the best you can. B: Take a stand and try to make your world a better place for others (George Washington would be a good example) or C: Do what you have to in order to move to a better place.

Some characters simply understand what it is to be yourself. Oh sure getting the switch might be as simple as a shot, but its the easy way out. Becoming better without any of the effort is as good as not getting better at all to many. This is why Nepleslia has survived as long as it has. True human beings give everything they are to surviving. Yamatai may be advanced in technology, but it is painfully obvious that Nepleslia has the upper hand in experience and determination. Even a genetic defect that damages the population isn't enough to completely wipe us out.

Feels weird saying it but we are almost like the cockroach of the universe. Nuke us, step on us and all you do is make us stronger in the long run. Nepleslia for the win baby!

Wes, when the Destiny plot came to an end, you sent the following to the people involved in it - it led me to think that Yamatai was well disposed to sending foreign soldiers home.

1. Because the Star Army has relinquished control of the 4th Expeditionary Fleet (Destiny 1 Colonization Fleet), including YSS Destiny itself, which you were assigned to. In light of this, we are temporarily reassigning you, and the rest of the former Destiny crew, to the NovaCorp-built Mersina-Class (PNUgen Variant) starship YSS Confidence, ND-X1-435, which will be sent in a misson to locate and again the support of alien peoples.

2. If you would prefer a different assignment, let us know. This asignment is not mandatory and can be exchanged for another if you wish. It's time for Omega's happy-two-cents post...

From what I've been reading (or at least thoughtfully skimming over) for the last few weeks is that Neps and Geshrins are passé, and will inevitably be "removed" from the SAoY...by force or peace or body transfer...whatever. That's fine by me. The arguement is very sound in this (see last five pages) and I'll accept it.

But from a Nep's perspective, I want to raise the question of compensation. Nepleslians will probably not want to switch their bodies, thus a forced transfer of service will be required. Like I said, will those characters be compensated in any way for being an "inconvenience" to the SAoY? At least an honorable discharge would be in order...no matter what their rank may be.

Well, if a member of the Army refuses to comply with this order then they may be considered insubordinate and as such forced to be discharged. Now if it is a resignation, a general or honorable discharge, that would probably be a case by case basis. They could be released peacefully or just booted out. It's not like they are not being given an option. After all, it was stated that in order to remain you must upgrade your body by a certain time. For Geshrins its more mandatory because they are the body swappers whereas the Nepleslians have that more individualistic streak to them.

This is something of a waste because you are losing a good amount of experienced soldiers. Worse yet, you're losing assets and a rival is gaining from this. Think about how many soldiers who are getting shoved out know sensitve information?

To a Nepleslian still in the SAoY, this almost seems like a slap in the face. Back when Nepleslia seceded from the Empire they were all given the chance to switch sides. Those that did, did, and those that didn't could be considered the most loyal to have turned their back on their own homeworld. Each must've had their own reasons for it. I'm sure many were not so noble. After all, many did leave Nepleslia behind for various reasons. So this argument has its flaws. But to those that did stay out of duty and loyalty I'd say this stings. Some may even go through the body transfer if their loyalties are strong enough. Some might not even care about the whole body transfer thing and just go for it. Being pushed out from combat duty when that may have been their specialty is still a little insulting. These are human emotions we're talking about.

Anyways, I guess I'm not really adding too much other then another cent in this whole thing so I'll stop now.

How about telling people their character's CAN'T defend their nation unless they basically make a new character based off the old one.

Cora, Wes is not Yui. Wes just roleplays Yui, whom happens to be the leader of the Star Army. That means she drafts orders: some of them you are not obliged to like... but Yui is a character roleplayed by Wes.

There is a distinction. Just as I happen to be not very fond of the Lorath and would rather have nothing to do with them, I know my character Kotori actually has a more tame opinion of them and mostly feels tolerance and compassion. That certainly differs from my personnal point of view. Again, that's roleplaying.

Ahh, I still feel bad about making two Nepleslian characters who live on Yamatai... and there's so many reasons for it explained here. Sarena has an excuse, she has nowhere else to go, and only just arrived in Tsubomi. Tan does... not. Emphatically so. Her original body was permanently crippled by radiation poisoning, she survived the Great Plague while nearly all baseline humans were killed, and yet when ST transfers became available, her reaction was pretty much 'You've got to be kidding me!'

Maybe it's pride, maybe determination, maybe she's just blasé and resistant to change... but no, the real reason she doesn't want to upgrade to a better body is because she doesn't want to be cured or enhanced. Having to work hard to overcome her limitations paradoxically makes her feel strong and capable, while being given those capabilities outright, with no strings attached, would make her feel weak and inept. If she was successful, she'd always wonder if it was her own abilities, or the abilities of the new body she was given, that made it possible.

If she dies, of course, then the crisis is over. She has to be given a new body anyway, so it might as well be a good one, since putting in a request for a copy of the old one would seem like insane vanity... as opposed to just asking for a new one that looks just about like the old one, but is much, much better under the hood. That's just regular, healthy vanity! I'm looking forward to exploring that eventually, but hopefully not too soon.
