Galar strode towards the hangar, confident due to his new post, even if it was a tentative one as Shoi Kohosei. Being suddenly promoted was a definite ego boost, however, Galar made sure that it did not show. Making his way through the hallways, he finally reached the hangar area. The Anisa Star Fortress was certainly an interesting place, he thought. As he watched, engineers poured over ships of different sizes, both military and civilian. The hangar was certainly crowded at this time of day, but as far as Galar could see, there were even more people than usual. Galar had just arrived via shuttle about three hours previously and had taken a little time before the set meeting time of the crew. Finally arriving in the main part of the military hangar, Galar looked around, searching for something. Querying the network, Galar acquired the map layout and the dock layout as well. Now aware which ships were docked where, Galar made his way towards an oblong shape near the back of the hangar, suspended, and yet supported by beams and docking claws. Obviously a new ship, the YSS Moirai, as it read on the side, was ready to take off. There were no mechanics around it and it was in pristine condition. Aside from the few guards standing by the entrance, there was, in fact, no one there at all. He approached the guards, bowed his head a little and said, "Shoi Kohosei, Captain of the YSS Moirai. Thank you for keeping watch over my command." Nodding back the guards silently aknowledged his thanks. Taking a look back, he saw someone approaching him. It was a young female Yamataian with brown skin and piercing grey eyes. He was drawn to the eyes; it was rare for anyone to have grey eyes of that shade, and Galar had found someone with the same color eyes as his own. Smiling, he said as he checked the dossier on his crew, "Itto Hei Hibiko Renko, no? Nice to see you."
The young Yamataian smiled as she came to full attention and saluted. "Sir! Itto Hei Hibiki Renko reporting for duty!"
As Renko walked up to the commander, Kumiko started walking towards the ship, having determined it was her new assignment.
Behind the two Yamataian women, a petite neko with shoulder-length black hair and dark, bronze-toned skin approached from the same direction. Kuroaki Isuzu wore the alternate male-style uniform, complete with black longcoat and tricorner hat, and was carrying a datapad in one hand an a large travel bag in the other.
As she walked towards the ship, Kumiko reflected on her last assignment, and everything that had gone on, from running security at the conference, to eating with other security team members at a restaurant.
Where did those to run off to... ah; there. Kumiko was much taller than her, and Ren far more energetic, so the pair had quickly left Isuzu behind after disembarking from the shuttle. It was a little annoying, but something she was accustomed to. She could have flown to keep up, but Isuzu was busy reviewing the NH-29S upgrade approval she'd just received. Apparently, the operation would be performed on her new ship.
Well, that's a relief. With the way things had been at Pisces Station when they left, she hadn't relished the thought of getting it done there. It just seemed like one disaster after another... Shuddering slighly, the Neko moved to catch up with her companions, as they seemed to know where they were going.
Lyf Kenna found himself sitting in a small lounge when his personal computer began ringing with its alarm clock message. Sighing, he half-glanced at the message that told him it was time to meet the other crew members before closing it. He was hoping to have just a little more time to finish his computerized book that he loved to read.
Closing the programs and shutting the computer, he got up and checked his electronic map of the station. “Let’s see,” he thought, “The hangar should be that way.” He proceeded to walk into the nearby hangar and surveyed his surroundings.
He saw a nice new ship and someone in an officer’s uniform talking to someone. “That must be the captain,” he though.” Quickly checking his clean- cut hair, he approached the figure and came to attention. “Lyf Kenna, sir,” he said saluting, “technology and medicine specialist.”
Galar, only slightly surprised when the Yamataian man came up to him and saluted, said, "You must be Lyf Kenna, Santo Hei." Bowing to both of the recruits, he continued, "Unlike in the Nepleslian's military, we do not salute to our commanders, we bow." Galar remembered his own troubles with the command chain and his punishments from these. Almost grimacing, Galar looked around, looking for the two others he was still waiting on. Spotting one of the two remaining crew from his dossier, he smiled once more, inclined his head and said, "Kumiko Endoh, Santo Hei, I assume? Good to see you as well."
Mentally smacking herself for making the same blunder a second time on her second real assignment Renko bowed deeply dropping her arm. "Excuse me for my fumble Sir!"
Kumiko bowed as was appropriate, and looked up again. "It is a pleasure to meet you, sir." As she spoke, she studied the other Santo Hei and her commander, taking in details about their appearances.
Silently, Isuzu assumed a position at attention behind the others, while her new commander addressed Kumiko.
Also slightly embarrassed, Lyf attempted to corrected himself by bowing as well. “Of, course you are right,” he said to Galar. He should have known better, but he was a little nervous for his first military foray.
Galar, knowing that these two would certainly keep this lesson in mind from now on responded, "It is no problem, now that you know, you will be the better for the knowledge." Seeing the Neko in the back, he addressed her, "Kuroaki Isuzu, correct? I am pleased that you are here." He inclined his head to her as well. "Now that we are all here, I would like to show you aboard the YSS Moirai, Kyaa class search and rescue vessel. Please follow me."
Stepping inside, The crew was accosted by a Nekovalkyrja sprite, one that Galar knew from his dossier to be the EIES avatar Mochi. Smiling widely, she said, "Welcome everyone! Galar Kohosei, I'm so glad you came right on time. Let me guide you all to the bridge where you will spend a great deal of your time aboard this ship." With that the avatar walked off along a well lit, white corridor. Galar motioned for everyone to follow him once more, and made his way after Mochi.
Following the captain Renko pinged a quick telepathic thought to Isuzu, Is it me or is that EIES wayyyy too chipper?
Kumiko nodded, and followed, showing no surprise at the sprite, and walked along behind Galar.
Lyf followed as well, taking note of the ship's mechanical workings as he walked along."It's a very nice ship," he said as he followed the captain.
Acknowledging Vanatosk-Shoi's nod with an abbreviated bow, Isuzu followed without a word. Hard green eyes darted around the corridor as they walked taking in everything and cataloging it for further study. New ship; she's young, Isuzu replied to Ren.
Winding their way through the ship, they passed the mess hall and the laundry room on the right, and medical bays on either side. On their way to the ramp, Galar said to Mochi, "This ship has a very interesting layout. But, then again, this does make it easier to defend." Responding, the avatar said, "Yes indeed, having the airlock on the bottom floor makes the entire ship easy to defend against a boarding party that doesn't burn a hole directly through the hull itself." Galar, realizing that it could be a good lesson for the entire crew, said, "Everyone, make sure you note how this ship is laid out, we may have to defend it someday, you never know."
Renko, already quite familiar with the ships layout from the plans she'd downloaded prior, began to make defense plans for the ship should the issue come up. "Sir! Yes Sir!"
Kumiko nodded in response, pulling up the plans to view them in this light.
Isuzu nodded, though she guessed that the layout was more to give incoming and outgoing medical teams better access to the surgical theatres. As security, she'd probably spend a lot of her time down here on the operations level, so she committed it's layout to memory and marked it for later; she'd have to find some good defense points.
Lyf hoped that he wouldn’t have to do too much fighting inside their own ship, but took Galar’s advice and looked carefully at the layout. He took special note of the medicine bays. He figured that he would probably be most useful there.
Continuing up the ramp to the second deck, the group passed through a hallway with two squad prep rooms, one on either side. Next they came across the quarters. Here Mochi said as she walked along in front of the group, "Your quarters will be inside these two rooms; the rooming assignments will be available for you to download off of my system." They made a right turn and came to a door which opened to the bridge. Stepping inside, Galar looked around, there seemed to be everything they needed here. Sitting in the command chair, Galar motioned for everyone to gather around. "Alright, now it is time for me to give you your first assignments."
Looking around at the crew standing around him and Mochi, Galar said, "Renko Hei, you are an infantry, thus you shall be our first line of attack, if we should ever need to take a mission on foot, and to be honest, I would rather that than having to fight in space, this ship really isn't suited for that. Your battle ready station is in the first squad room. I believe you know where that is. If we should ever need to fight you will help lead the sprites into battle." He turned to Lyf. "You are our medic, but you also have skills in mechanics. You will report to engineering if a battle should arise and be prepared to tke a power armor into space or ground, wherever we may be." Looking at Kumiko and Isuzu, he said, "You two will accompany Lyf to engineering and perform those duties as well. However, I will need some of you to stay on the bridge and temporarily pilot the Moirai, as well as man the comm. You two can do that at times, as you have received some training in those areas, no?"
Galar thought again, "Actually, Mochi, you can handle the piloting right?" Mochi answered, "Correct. I will do the piloting aboard this vessel.
"Sir it is my honer, Sir!" Renko bowed attempting to hide the overwhelmed look on her face at being put in charge of the entire ships compliment of assault units.
Kumiko coughed slightly. "No sir, I have never had piloting experience myself, but I am sure I could learn quickly if needed. But I am prepared to fulfill my duties as an engineer, sir."
"I have been trained in communications and small craft operations, Vanatosk-Shoi," Isuzu confirmed with an unreadable, flat expression. Internally, however, she was elated. Finally, an actual engineering assignment! She'd spent a little too much time as an MP on Pisces Or at I'll be in Engineering, anyhow, she corrected; so far, the only duties he'd listed thus far were ship operations and armor piloting... but that didn't make any sense. She'd peeked the ship loadout, as it the Kyaa-class normally didn't carry any NH-29 or even Yamataian-pilotable mecha.
"I'll be happy to assist in any way you need," Lyf answered. He had some power armor experience, but he was happy to hear that someone else, namely Renko, would lead the combat.
And with that, Galar akcnowledged their bows with one of his own. Making mental notes of what he needed delivered to the ship, Galar said, "We will begin our first mission tomorrow. Please find your respective battle stations and feel free to explore the ship until such time as we need to leave the Star Fortress. I will have the necessary things delivered to the ship while we wait. That is all, thank you for choosing to become one of my crew, I am sure that we will be able to complete our mission with ease."
Kumiko bowed once more. "Thank you for accepting my application, sir." She turned and started to leave, then thought again and turned back. "Do you have any idea how much time we have until we depart, sir?"
"24 hours, Endoh Hei" Galar responded.
Bowing to Galar, Isuzu stood at attention while the others left to find their bunks or explore the ship. She had a small matter to discuss with her new commander in private. Far from forgotten, the datapad clutched in her left hand was practically vibrating in her fingers.
Ren bowed as well, and made her way towards the engineering area, interested at what lay ahead.
Lyf wandered off to look around more closely at the ship. He decided to look around in the medical bays. As he walked down the hall, he wondered what their first mission actually was, but seeing Galar busy talking to Kumiko, he decided to ask later.
The young Yamataian smiled as she came to full attention and saluted. "Sir! Itto Hei Hibiki Renko reporting for duty!"
