OOC LSDF Val'ta - To Boldly Go...!

Moon Drop-scale fuckup in public
[And this is a legitimate warning. Akemi's chances of survival socially are looking grim. First and only warning before consequences.]
<Eistheid> Kirk has the right of it. Porrim's response is super lenient. Most LSDF Captains would have had Akemi executed on the spot, no questions asked.
Is this actually known to be the case from @OsakanOne and/or @DocTomoe ?
Eistheid had to ask if what Akemi said was a big taboo and Osaka said in IRC most non-orthodox Lorath wouldn't care so how is this worth killing someone over "no questions asked?"
I find it strange when people act as if they have absolute certainty on this.
The ship's ARIA was already logging the incident down. Akemi's file had a red mark on it, a symbol that looked like an M and a T put together with a line through the middle.
On top of that an artificial intelligence is automatically determining this is a legitimate big deal.
Is there anything on the wiki about this and things of this level of severity?

Akemi you might be forgetting the other part though, orthodox families raise their children from birth thinking it's repugnant. I don't think the insinuation itself is enough to get you killed, cept if you maybe insinuate that someone else does it and they challenge you to a trial by duel. But Akemi is on thin ice already, and to people who grew up with orthodox values, what Akemi said would be very very offensive.

This also amuses me as I wonder if people truly realize the difference between IC and OOC when it comes to my character. I'm not saying you don't. I just find it to be a funny typo.

XD Sorry about that. Yeah, I don't actually know how to pronounce your OOC name, but I can pronounce Akemi, so that is the first thing that comes to my head when I'm typing. I have to slow down to remember to put your name, sorry bout that.

Umm, if Akemi is looking for true sympathy from Aran'ya for what he just said then I'm not sure he's going to find much of it. That comment is way over the line of trading light insults...

Ahahahaha. There's no problem to be sorry about. In my mind I am an innocent little cat person with a penchant for mischief.

Well write whatever you want to write man.

Not as bad as some execution crap or anything like that, but certainly she would be seen as a total bitch, would have that opinion marked on her personal record, and would likely end up being the subject of an intense bullying campaign, in conjunction with possibly being the target of friendly fire, or being put into some impossibly bullshit situations.

Recommendation: Magical Mew Mew needs to make an apologetic gesture, or at the very least, acknowledge that perhaps she is talking out her ass.

Well, it's clear that I fucked up.

First of all sorry to @Amaryllis for causing more trouble for Akemi than should have happened. I was looking at the structure of Lorath society, compounded with what Akemi is, and who they are which was looking worse and worse for them so I was honestly expecting a heavy handed response from any Lorath who cares about their culture.

For clarity I'll lay out my train of thought so as to not seem like I'm just back peddling; The Lorath are a Matriarchy. At their core is all things motherly, which places a huge value on all things child, in my opinion. An egg, even an unfertilized one, is sitting somewhere between the human equivalent of either menstrual blood, or an undeveloped child. This led me to the conclusion that the Lorath would consider egg related things serious. Moving on to the issues Akemi has simply for existing... Even if Akemi wasn't frequently irritating people verbally, he is one of the Yamataian races. The Empire that from the perspective of the Lorath dropped a moon on Lor within the last ten years. One could also implicate Yamatai in the Occhestian split and exile. So two things to hate the YSE for. Furthermore Neko are largely viewed as equipment rather than people lending to Lorath not trusting them and generally feeling distaste toward the artificial race. Beyond this Akemi isn't just a Neko, but a Neko that is for some reason male, this places Akemi's standing below that of a normal Neko because he is opposite of the gender that the entire race views as superior, possibly on purpose. Something that I do not believe would earn Akemi any love.

When I suggested that Akemi would probably be brutally dealt with elsewhere in the LSDF it was with that in mind. Akemi has a lot going against them just for existing from what I've seen of Lorath culture.

Now again, I was wrong and I want to apologize for that. I was just trying to help people who might not be too clear on the circumstances get an idea of how upset they would be in relation to Akemi's words IC.

After all, while Akemi isn't a character that I'd personally enjoy interacting with due to their mouthy nature I don't believe in holding grudges against players or characters OOC. It is a waste of effort that can be better spent on having fun.

The Empire that from the perspective of the Lorath dropped a moon on Lor within the last ten years.
No need to apologize bro. What gets me now is did Yamatai really really drop a moon? Because I read DocTomoe saying they did but then if I remember correctly Wes said that Yamatai shot at the moon in defense of the planet and Doc got to decide whether there were remnants that could still harm the planet.

The official story OOC is that the Mishhu dropped the moon and Yamatai tried to stop it from hitting the planet. (This is complicated and I don't really want to go too deep into it because from what I can tell no one agrees on what happened.)

However IC the Lorath blame Yamatai for the moon drop incident because according to them if Yamatai hadn't been there then the moon drop would have never happened.

Think of it as a political spin on the story if it makes more sense to you. The bottom line is that as a culture the Lorath believe that Yamatai destroyed one of their moons and severely damaged their planet.

Yep that sounds about right to me. Let's also not forget the fact that Hanako just happened to ave taken the Matriarchy leader's virginity too if I'm not mistaken? They feel violated in so many ways as a culture as a result.

Also random question this whole egg thing raises... Could a L'manel bonded to an egglaying animal (birds, insects, etc) ever conceivably be able to pull off that feat -- without permanent damage?

I don't know if this is on the wiki and I'm doubting if it is canon or not, I can't remember but I want to say that Lorath lay eggs naturally...

A lot of revision and improvement on the Lorath pages are in planning stages so hopefully this will all have easily accessible answers in the future.

 I never thought of them as actually doing that naturally! (don't only Gartagens lay eggs?) I always assumed they were reproductively like humans, since they had a eugenics caste mindset. Though if Helashio are thematically cats then they are the birds... So I guess it makes a degree of sense. I almost could see Lorath as harpy-like if this is true.

I remember asking Osaka and DocTomoe about this and them saying they produced eggs pregnant or not regardless of caste and that Lorath have super duper hips that can do Chris Angel Mind Freak contortion acts to get them out.

This is why my character is asking. He genuinely wants to try eating a Lorath egg, specifically Aran'ya's.;)

He'll eat the whole thing even if it tastes awful. In fact, he'll especially eat it all if it tastes bad to show how grateful he is.

Akemi will be accepting any and all apology eggs. She'll even cook you your own egg and serve it to you in bed.

It's not some "story." It's what actually happened in the RP.

Lor was surrounded by a big Mishhu fleet and a Star Army fleet led by Hanako came to fight them:

The captain came on over ther intercom. There was a second or so where she was silent, save for a deep breath from the woman; perhaps she was pondering what exactly she should say. "Everyone," the demure voice finally announced, "In a few minutes we will make contact with the forces present within the Lor system. The Mishhuvurthyar forces outnumber us approximately three to one, and will come from both behind and from Lor. This will not be easy. Prepare for combat, but stay cool-headed." Shortly afterward, the ship's red warning lights came on, with a blast of the siren.

At this point it's revealed the Lorath are consorting with the Mishhuvurthyar:

Hanako's heart jumped. Was it a trick? It almost seemed easier to start firing. The rest of the Mishhuvurthyar forces would be here in seconds. Thinking back to the hatchings she'd birthed, and to Pumpkin, the hybrid, she recalled the startling revelation that Mishhuvurthyar were Nekovalkyrja in different bodies. She had reservations about killing her kind... "Hold fire," she ordered Kotori, before turning back to the interpreter. "Continue," she urged.

"My name is Melisson." The Mishhuvurthyar woman expressed as she brought one hand over her sternum. "Right now, we have Lorath nobles on board as guests, so I would much rather not put them in danger. We have been trying to reach friendly relations with them and would like to be able to be allowed to continue." She frowned. "If we have a battle here, it with the power of our weapons, it could endanger their home system. Surely you would be considerate enough to see this - besides, we are rather evenly matched: any battles between us will end up with a large amount of casualties."

Hanako took this information in with a sinking feeling in her gut, and a dark, serious expression on her face. "They are a part of the Yamatai Star Empire. You have no business trying to foster relations with them without the consent of the Empire, and they have no business on your ship." She raised a finger and pointed it at the Mishhu on the screen. "I am not afraid to spill my blood to remove you from here."

"You've treated them like dirt under your feet since you annexed their world. They don't seem to like you very much." Melisson pointed out. "Whereas we have them currently chatting with our technicians so they can see just what waits in the stars. In retrospect, you've made them regret ever finding out about what lay beyond the veil of their world." Melisson peered at Hanako more closely. "Are you so bloodthirsty as to actually stoop to evil intentions, Taisa Hanako? Is that what you are trying to say? Would you be willing to actually destroy the Lorath if they won't be willing to stand in your shadow?"

Taisa Hanako cringed. She didn't want to admit any of what Melisson said was true, but it wasn't a complete lie. The Mishhuvurthyar were making her blood boil more fiercely with every moment. "It is not your place," the captain insisted. "Leave this system immediately! If you wish to negotiate with Lor, it should be though proper channels. We will not tolerate treachery such as this from you, nor the Lorath."

At great personal risk to herself (Having already been tortured and raped by the Mishhuvurthyar by this point), Hanako goes to the SMX ship to negotiate with Melisson.

Lorath orders at that time:
Transmitting through direct laser links between LSDF and civilian assets in and around Lor orbit to maintain network security, LSDF Control, Lor sector made;

"This is LSDF Fleet Control to all assets near Lor, update on the Mishhu and Star Army fleets follows:

The Mishhu flagship has maintained position at true 35.45*; 2.93*; 2.54 Ls Lor relative, A larger fleet has been detected in the region around it, but no details are available at this time.

The Star Army starship, ID confirmed for SA vessel designation Sakura, has moved to point-blank distance with the Mishhu vessel. Confirmed presence of a shuttle leaving SA vessel, designation "Fox",destination for Mishhu vessel probable. Other anomalies detected at region periphery, analysis has so far been unable to identify concretely, most likely of SA or Mishhu origin.

All vessels are to maintain holding positions outside of region 33*; 5*; 2.5 Ls+-.75 Ls and 38*; 8*; 2.5LS+- 7.5Ls Lor relative. Maintain radio silence, do not engage either force until ordered to do so, evasive maneuvers only.

The Lorath Queen realizes that her coming to the Mishhu was a terrible idea:
The Xiaah's entourage had meandered inside the Mishhuvurthyar ship for more than two hours. The bright side was that the Mishhu had been as good as their words so far: they were making them tour the ship gave them explanation on the basis behind some of their technologies. Getting a sharp migraine from the conversations seemed a small price to pay.

The downside was that the trip through the Mishhuvurthyar ship was almost downright nightmarish. The Mishhu had apparently a fetish with leaving the corpses of their preys in display and the ship smelled like it... but it wasn't only that. Slimy gunk with a will of its own rested in the rounded alien passageways, clinging to them and hindering their progress, though their guides assured them that the ship's defense system would refrain from lashing out on them. The environment itself was downright stressful in it's foreigness, with tough, chittering bugs occasionally buzzing by their heads with little to no warning, their little chewers clacking in anticipations.

They had been finally left to a conference room - or so they hoped. The room had chairs - or at least they hoped they were chairs - and a long table... most likely meant as some sort of reunion room for the humanoid types of mishhuvurthyar... though the floating, carapaced tentacled variety obviously dominated in the numbers of the battleship's crew from what they had seen so far. The mishhuvurthyar had offered them a 'recess' of sorts and so, for the moment, the Lorath were blessedly alone.

The Xiaah seemed outwardly unphased, taking everything in with a blank neutral mask. Yet inside was a different story.

What have I gotten my people into...We should have never come. Yet again another mistake...way to go..

Of course, her emotions and thoughts were quickly suppressed as they were led into the conference room. She looked around at three others she had brough along, and wondered if they would even make it from the accursed ship.

Turning to the others as the door closed Truth said, "Well that was shall we say, pi[interesting[/i], though I could go without the smell. What do you think of the current situation? Though I have managed to learn a fair amount from these people, I still do not trust them. How can one trust a group that is so blatantly barbaric after all? They are chaos. I can but hope they do not turn into a necessary chaos."

"I think we should have stayed behind." Fate muttered as she crossed her arms. "And everyone's apparently very small." She grumbled. She'd barely avoided hitting her head during the tour.

"We can't trust these people. Thier ships smell of death and destruction..they leave their signs of conquest out in the open for it to fester and bring disorder about them. They forget those they have conquered and beaten..." Destiny's hands were crossed across her chest as she looked about the room.

Hanako and her away team arrive and tell the Mishhuvurthyar to go away.

Destiny watched Hanako closely as she read the smaller girl over. With a sigh, she closed her eyes as she heard the comment from the Mishhu woman. More and more, the queen began to regret her decision to bring along the others.

Fate huffed, anger seething through her body and mind as she watches the aliens talk about her race like they were readly discardable objects.

"You need to leave this system immediately," Hanako told Melisson firmly. "You have no business here. This system is under our protection. If you do not leave, I will force you to. My people will deal with the Lorath; how we do so is not your concern."

"Well spoken, I suppose." Melisson said with grudging respect. "We came here with genuine intent of freeing them from the Empire at first, but we quickly soured up to the idea after seeing their culture up close and how their society behaved." Melisson swept one hand toward the asembled lorath. "Our ghost mishhuvurthyar allowed us to learn a lot from them, especially from their counsels before they met us and after we gave them time to think on our offer to protect them. I'd say their only redeeming feature is how they stubbornly hold to promises; the rest of their cultural makeup is so egocentric as to be simply rotten with terribly misplaced arrogance." Melisson grinned widely, displaying her pointy teeth.

"I'd like notihng more than to exterminate them, but if you ask nicely with a 'please,' I might allow you to save this rabble... if you really want to. Frankly, I don't even think they are fit to be incubators."

Hanako pressed on, her voice rising in volume and tone. "You," she told Melisson, "are dishonest tricksters who have no room to talk. You used a modified copy of my first officer to try and pressure the Lorath into betraying us, obtained from an instance of hostage-taking and rape that you fully condoned! All of you should be ashamed of yourselves!"

At the mention of being spied on, Destiny's suppresion of her emotions cracked. "You spied on us?! You had the nerve to speak to us of honor and pride, and now you speak of us as if we were the ones wrong? When you spied on us, betraying your word to us as if it meant nothing?" Destiny bared her teeth now at the creature infront of her. "I'm glad that I had no intention of joining you, or your disgusting race!"

Melisson starts the moon attack and Queen Destiny begs Hanako to help Lor:

"Go home, Melisson, go away" Hanako urged. "I want the Mishhuvurthyar out of this system. If you want to make an attempt to establish a peace, you must do this."

"Not many mishhuvurthyar will be happy if we leave here emptyhanded with only insults from these critters." Melisson thumbed toward Destiny. "I'm willing to leave with the thirty ships I have under my command. I can't answer for the commander in charge of the forces in Jun. However, you'll have to agree to a little contest with me. No one should die: in fact, you might actually save some people." The pink woman sent a telepathic command to her ship's computer and a vast holographic display appeared to cover one end of the wall, showing the shining surface of Lor. A moment later, a spherical bubble of energy shone in low orbit of Lor and vanished with a crackle to reveal a latter large reddish planetoid.

"Pretty, isn't it?" Melisson grinned. "It's one of the volcanic moons that was around the big gas giant. I've placed it in a decaying orbit, so, the planet must already be suffering some dramatic gravitational and atmospheric trouble." The Mishhuvurthyar woman looked almost proud of herself. "In less than an hour, it should touch down on the planet's surface and you know what would happen then, don't you?"

While accending to the station, Velor looked out onto the horizon, and saw something that should not have been there. The High Priest's jaw went agape as he looked at the planetoid. Instantly his mind opened a communication link with the remaining forces on the surface. "Continue evacuation, when space vehicles are launched, move the remaining population deeper into the ground. Also prepare our experimental antimatter storage for deployment... if the people from Yamatai overhead don't do anything to stop that moon, we may have to."

Destiny stared at the moon in aparent horror. Where had it come from? What was it doing here. "What are you doing! What is going to happen when it touches?" Her people were down there, about to die, and she was stuck up here, ready to live.

"I feel it need be noted at this point, what with all the slander you two are making upon us, that it was you, Yamataian, that failed at your side of the treaty first. We have been forced into this position not by our own will, but by your negligence and attitude. You forced us into your treaty, and thus the current predicament, but it is you, not we, who have failed to live up to your duties stipulated therin. We had no interest to side with either of you in this war, we only wished to be left alone, to be our own people. Not to be amalgamated into your empire," he said looking at Hanako," nor your regime," to Melisson.

"But, no matter our efforts you two refuse to let us be. Like children fighting over a new toy you strike out in violent fits to make it yours. Not because you think it interesting or wish to work with it, but because you want the pride of it being "yours". If you continue this way, you will leave nothing but burnt cinders throughout this region of space. "

Seeing the hologram of the moon," and now it seems to have progressed again. More innocents to die for your pride. More planets to burn for your childish urges."

Nyton saw the display and rewatched the energy mass that transported the moon to Lor. 'How the hell did they manage to accomplish that?' he thought to himself.

"Me? I'm showing you why you need the Star Army." Melisson said smugly. "We don't want you - you're spoiled meat as far as we are concerned and might as well die... apparently you have no idea of your place in your universe, so you'll have to collectively grow a brain and learn your place in it." She looked back to Hanako. "What are you waiting for? Take the Lorath trash back to your ship and save their planet!"

Turning to Destiny, Esajt said," From its size, it will be a total extinction event. The continent it hits will be liquidfied. There will probably be some planetary breakup, though I would say little will break free of Lor's gravity."

Hanako glared at the Melisson. The girl who had always been so permissive and subservient had become determined and inflexible. She was angry, so very angry, and now adding to the fire were these insults from the very people who had the most to lose.

"Go, Hanako." Melisson persisted. "As soon as you leave my ship, my fleet is leaving."

"Very well," Hanako nodded. She turned to the robot. "Guide us to the shuttle."

Fate had enough, with a quick pull, she drew her sword, the curved blade reflecting light. "Beast, filthy cur." She snarled. "Long have I waited to sink my blade into an off worlder." She growled as she walked towards Melisson, her sword kept to her side and low, her arm extended. "Face me and die!" She said while taking monsterous strides and clearing the room in little time. Her sword then raised to shoulder high as she let's it sing through the air towards Melisson's neck.

On Katha Station there was a slight hiss, the pressure equalized from the last Corvette ariving. A black suited Lorath walked into the passage way, with a short Halashio following close behind. "Come along, Jariyaa it is our time to leave," Skka'ri said with a heavy heart.

Destiny's ears twitched as she heard Esajt, her eyes wider now as her heart skipped a beat. Her people were going to die, all of them even her brother. She looked to Hanako, her eyes pleading now with the woman. Again, in such a short time, she was helpless. "Lady Hanako, please, help my people. This is the one thing I have ever asked of you or your people..Do this and I swear we will...We will do as yo- Sen'Ythy stop this instance!" How could she do something so rash at a time like this.

LSDF Kathra Station reaction:

Aboard Kathra station the facilities commander, a Commander Ittisaf, stood his hands gripping the rail of the second level of the command deck, his eyes, like much of the command staff, fixed on the holoimage of the Moon now in low orbit around Lor. Shakeing himself out of the temporary trance he began to give orders to the crew who quickly returned to their duties, more in a hurry than ever before.

"Give me status now," he said.

"Most of the incoming vessels have already been secured, approximately 12 transports remain in space on their way here, several million Lor estimated. The Hangars request permission to continue allowing docking request until the last minute."

"Tell them that permission is granted," the commander said.

"Auxiliary units have confirmed the planetoids presence and trajectory. Impact will be off the southern continent. Yield is estimated in excess of 1E10 MT. Total extinction of all life on Lor is assured," she said, her face pale.

"Capacitor banks are at standby for drive activation. Core is at full power." The engineer checked another station behind him. "Drive is powered up and awaiting activation, all systems appear go."

Navagation said, "Preliminary jump calculations are complete, astrogation has located a planet likely habitable approximately 63 LY slightly "east" of the galactic core. Final calculations should be complete within the minute."

Operations said, "All stations sans the hangar bays have reported in as jump ready."

"Very well, all stations are to standby for drive activation on my order," the commander said. "Throughout the station the emergency claxon rang, the voice of the XO on the intercom system blaring over it," All personnel report to emergency stations, I repeat all persons report to emergency stations. Jump authorization has been received, all stations standby for jump. I repeat, all stations standby for jump. This is not a drill. XO over."

From there, all they could do was wait and hope.

The YSS Sakura is ordered to get between the falling moon and planet Lor, but is attacked by Black Spiral traitors working with the Mishhu. Meanwhile, the fleet begins to attempt to destroy the moon in order to save Lor:

Bright flashes of brilliantly intense light and fields of red molten fury blossomed on the surface of the planetoid as anti-matter and aetheric explosions rocked it. Other gunships began to contribute fire as well, mostly from main cannons and torpedoes. The other ships of Sakura's squadron, however, went after the rogue Nozomi.

A power armor fight happens on the Sakura and the Black Spiral ship attacks Kathra Station and some transports. The SMX fleet departs. Meanwhile the moon continues to be pummeled:

The moon was starting to break apart into large chunks by now. Fragments and shards of all shapes and sizes were raining down on the surface below, filling the sky with flaming debris and trails of smoke.

The moon had now almost complete disintegrated into millions of asteroids, which began to surround the Sakura as they fell towards Lor. Anti-matter explosions were going off all around, along with annihilating beams from Sakura gunships, carefully aimed so as not to harm the firendly forces nearby. Impacts on the planet below resulted in bright flashes and visble shockwaves.

Ground forces on the planet remained sheltered inside of various bunkers and command structures. Controling their railgun turrets and nuclear missle launchers by remote command. Each nuke they launched, they made sure to give it the proper instructions to clear the atmosphere before detonating, to prevent the nuclear fallout from damaging their world more than it already has been.

Meanwhile, at the site of each impact, a flurry of what seemed like small clouds scattered along the dust rings that came out with each impacting shockwave. The nanomachines that were spread through the Lor atmosphere instantly began to go to work on reducing the dust and other contaminants spread through the atmosphere of the planet.

"Destiny nodded to Kotori, and looked around for Hanako. She'd wanted to thank the Sakura's captain for saving Lor."

After this the Xiaah returns home to Lor, drama occurs over Mindy salvage, and Hanako makes some rice.

So that's the way it went down in the actual RP.

TLDR: The Lorath Queen thought she could negotiate with Melisson and it backfired and the planet got messed up for it. The Star Army did what it could to save the planet (and did), but couldn't stop major damage from happening. Anyone who says Yamatai didn't do its best to save Lor is a liar.

Thanks for the clarifications on IC events @Wes, I havn't gotten that far in the YSS Sakura logs so I couldn't say for certain what had happened.

I am however pretty sure that despite Yamatai's actions the Lorath still blame them for the event even though Yamatai did their best to limit the fallout and save the planet. I think this is IC politics twisting the events though.

I enjoy history, though as much as it displeases me, I think Five is on to something. Didn't all of this somehow get kickstarted by what he mentioned? OOC, I'd dig it so long as I could actually read the RP of that, even though my characters would bitch about it since they'd be IC.
