Aendri stepped forward from the back of the classroom where he'd been lurking, watching the group to see how they acted. He nodded to Ramiro as he made his way to the front, and turned to face the group. "And now on to some stuff which you should be very interested in, since most of it has to do with you and your future." He tapped a command in, pulling up a new screen. "Pay scales and ranks in the Star Army, also known as your future. Assuming of course, you're willing to put in the work for it. I'm going to assume most of you either know this already, or will be interested in looking into it on your own, so we'll continue right on to this." He tapped in another command. "This is what all of you are doing. Well, most of it. I wouldn't peg any of you as intelligence officers so far, but you never know. Make sure you remember the colors and the jobs together. It makes it a lot easier on figuring out who you're working with when you can just look at them and know." He tapped in one last command. "And now we have your benefits. Nothing that should surprise you on here, but remember it all. If you stay in one piece for long enough, it's your right to collect on these." He glanced at Ramiro and inclined his head, indicating he'd said his piece.

Ramiro took over and sped up the pace so they could finish up. "Alright, here is the creed that you will all follow, unless you want to find yourselves kicked out of the Star Army and never able to find a job again. These are the rules concerning captured POWs. You must also follow these unless you want to find yourselves discharged. Also follow these regulations. All of these are basic rules that you MUST follow at all times."

Ramiro paused before continuing. "The Star Army of Yamatai was founded in YE21 and is the military arm of the Yamatai Star Empire. It is commanded by the Taisho, and the current Taisho is Ketsurui Yui. Soldiers are expected to bow to one another, treat each other with respect, follow rules, yada yada yada, you know all this." Ramiro nodded to Aendri.

Keiko looked a little more interested once her sword-carrying instructor got to the benefits of serving in the Star Army

That doesn't seem half bad... but still we're going outside to face the worst of the galaxy so its only fair the deal is this good. When I get back to my room I better ask for the life insurance... if I'm going to die grievously somewhere far away I might as well make sure my little brother gets something out of it.

Keiko also took note of what could get her in trouble, she would have to make sure study those, if she unknowingly broke a rule it sure wouldn't be pretty for her.

And then there was the creed. Simple words, a short pledge, but still... there were strenght in those words. For a little moment Keiko could feel a little of the conviction and dedication that all the soldiers before her had when they said that creed.

Even for an apatethic girl like her... it was a little moving, that moment.

"And, finishing up, just a few more things. Your uniforms need to be worn at all times while on duty, though which uniform depends on the occasion. You will also be expected to care for all of your uniforms, including requesting new ones should the uniform wear out to that point." Aendri stepped away from the controls, and swept his gaze across the room. "You will be expected to conform to all of the standards we've given you, and a few others you learned back in basic, at all times, unless specifically told otherwise. And finally, you are all soldiers. Now, and for the rest of the time you will spend serving. You are expected to look, act, hell, even think like a soldier. Remember that while you are in uniform, you are a physical representation of the government. We expect you to act like it."

Ramiro waited for Aendri to finish up and then looked around the room, noticing the boredom of most of the class members. Ramiro grinned as he thought of an easy way to get the attention of the class. "Alright, who wants to go shoot something?"

Aendri smiled at his partner's ploy. He leaned towards him and murmured, "Would it be a bad time to tell them if they miss a target from less then 20 meters, I'm going to use them as target practice?"

Ramiro leaned over and murmured back, "No, but it would be even less bad if you told them you'd use them as an attack dummy for that sword at your waist." He grinned as he waved the class to follow. "Alrighty, lets go!" He led the group out the school and down one of the dirt trails to the firing range. Once he was there he pulled out his side arm and yelled out, "Does anyone know what this weapon is called? Here's a hint, it's standard issue!"

Well... since I'm standing in the front I might as well give it shot.

Keiko leaned a bit closer to look at the gun in her instructor's hand. It was definitely a pistol... or at least she thought so, Keiko didn't know far too much about weapons. She tried to remember the things she learned before coming to the Fort and something sprung to mind.

After glancing around to see if anyone was seemed about to answer Keiko lifted her left hand "It's a Nekovalkyrja Pistol... Service Pistol I think it's called, sir"

"Come on, rook. More specific then that, there's more then twenty different models available." Aendri was standing off to the side, shaking his head.

From the back of the classroom Yoshiko was looking very bored. So far nothing had been covered that wasn't already part of the mental download she received when she was created.

Yoshiko's ears perked up at the mention of shooting something, 'Finally something to do', she thought to herself as she followed the rest of the class out to the range.

When one of the other recruits floundered on identifying the sidearm Yoshiko pipped in to state the correct answer. "Based on the markings on the sidearm, it would be a Type 30 NSP, Sir!"

"That is correct! Now there are three different settings on your NSP. The first is pulse, this is your standard shot for firing at individuals or light armor. The second is stun, it will screw with someones nervous system or mess with electrical equipment and immobilize whatever you're shooting at. The third is heavy mode, this shot is equivalent to a grenade and is meant for big things or little things that...well, little things that just don't want to die." Ramiro looked around to make sure everyone was paying attention. "The mechanics are simple, point at your target and squeeze the trigger. Next weapon!" Ramiro opened up a gun closet and pulled out one of his weapons that he had obtained on a mission. "This, is an Elysian Sub-Machine Gun. Now does anyone know what makes an SMG different from a pistol or Heavy Machine Gun, and does anyone know what an SMG is used for?"

It seems like they need more details than I'm able to provide. Well then I guess I'll let that girl answer the questions.

Keiko took a little step while keeping her gaze on the SMG. Well, not because I'm not answering doesn't mean I can't think what's the right answer. Lets see... A better rate of fire should be useful against large groups, and that thing doesn't seem that much heavier than a pistol. It should be quite more easy to carry around than ones of those bulky heavy machine guns.

Yoshiko waited a few moment to see if anyone else in the class was going to answer before she opened her mouth again.

"An SMG is lighter than an Assault rifle and uses smaller caliber ammunition, it's useful where you need more firepower than a pistol but don't have the space to carry an assault rifle or Heavy Machine Gun, the latter usually also requires a vehicle mount or tripod."

Yoshiko then looked at the instructor to see if she gave the answer he was looking for.

"Exactly!" Ramiro exclaimed. "So I see you guys have a basic grasp of personnel weapons. As crew members you shouldn't be in many field-combat situations, mostly in space-combat scenarios. Although, some of you may be infantry-bound, which means you would need more weapons familiarization. So, those of you who are taking up crew-based occupations, go and do some target practice with those NSPs that are placed on the table. Those of you that are planning on doing infantry, come over here and me and Shasos'Shol will help you with the rest of your weapons familiarization."

"Yes sir"

Keiko broke off from the main group to follow Ramiro. Still she was a little nervous... no that wasn't the right word, she was kind of embarrased. She was aspiring to become a part of the infantry and yet she didn't know a whole lot about weapons.

Well, this is why you're here Keiko, shallow your pride, ignore your embarrasment and maybe if, for a change, you pay a little attention you'll learn something.

Aendri unslung the rifle case he'd brought with him today from his shoulder, and set it down on the table in front of him. He opened it, and quickly assembled the rifle inside, loading a magazine in and leaving the ammunition unchambered so far. "For those of you who are going to be remaining here, I'll be testing you on this as well," and he pointed at the now fully assembled Styrling Longbolt on the table. "It's not really necessary, but personally I'd like to know which of you have marksman capacity. It might change how we want to train you, if you have some natural ability in sharpshooting."

Ramiro listened to Aendri give his short talk before adding, "And he himself is an infantry specialist, so he does know what he's talking about." He then stepped back and allowed Aendri to finish his work. In the mean time his eyes scanned over the others as they practiced their weapon shooting.

-----------------------

A small shuttle landed at the landing pad down the road from the academy. A figure stepped out and set down his bags. Meanwhile the driver of an LUT got out of his vehicle and walked over. "Tanaka Yoshiro-Hei? Recent transfer from Fort Victory? Come with me." The driver picked up the Yoshiro's bags and tossed them into the back before climbing into the driver's seat, waiting for Yoshiro, and driving off.

"Shuttle approaching Fort Ready II. Please fasten seatbelts and return all seats and tray tables to their upright positions. As you exit the shuttle please remember your belongings and luggage." The pilot said "Thank you for flying with us and have a nice day. The shuttle will be landing in five minutes."

Yoshiro fastened his safety belt and prepared for the landing. The pilot landed his shuttle with the skill of an expert. After the landing, he unfastened his belt and stood up to grab his duffel bag. He exited the shuttle and got into the LUT that was waiting for him. Once they arrived an MP stopped them at the gate. "I was supposed to report to a Valencia Ramiro or Aendri Shasos'Shol for training," he told the MP at the station. "Let's see some ID recruit. I can't just call them up and bring them here without seeing proper ID," the MP said in response.

Yoshiro showed the officer his orders and the MP looked them over and got on his radio. "Nito Heisho Valencia, please report to the MP station. Looks as though we have a missing lamb to add to your flock." The MP said into his radio. "His name is Yoshiro Tanaka, a new recruit." Yoshiro looked a bit sheepish when the MP spoke but he waited anyways, as his orders were to report to Ramiro or Shasos'Shol. He didn't want to make a bad impression, if he hadn't all ready.

''Marksmanship huh?''

Keiko looked at the assembled rifle and took an instant weird liking for the lethal weapon. She didn't know why but she wanted to lay her hands on it.

"Sir, what would the target be?"

"Well, I'm not going to waste what little HE ammunition I have testing you guys, so we can just find something small and stick it off down there. All else fails, we can just use one of the targets, though those are a bit close for my liking. How many of you am I testing?" He paused before he thought to add on, "Oh, but you don't have to do the testing if you really don't want to. I might think less of you, but most of your COs probably won't care, so it's your choice." That said, he pushed the bolt forward, chambering the first round, and sighted through the scope while he waited for a response.
