UX-13 I in the Ketsurui Military sector was a fairly recently occupied world, empty save a number of training forts, the most Notable of which was Fort Ready two. Around the forts, forests had been planted to serve for a more homey feel, but in between these compounds was a wasteland of a developing world. For the past few weeks, transports and shuttles had been coming in and out of the system, the planet, and between the forts. Personnel and Supplies had been ferried about, and everything was getting ready for the Grand opening of the New fort, and it's continuation of the Legacy of the original Fort Ready. Today was the day before the formal beginning of the course, and, rather than have some fun like they had done with the last set of classes, the Instructors decided to let it be a somewhat leisurely beginning, with shuttles coming and dumping their recruits, letting them board a bus to go to the main Barracks area. Right now the bus was open and waiting for people to board, to meet and mingle, and get to know one another.

It had been several weeks ago that Aidan had exchanged his Nepleslian corpse for a Yamataian body, and he didn’t like the results at all. Sure, the body was physically stronger, more durable, and it didn’t have shredded nerves in the left arm, but, he didn’t like the feel of it, enough that it soured his mood considerably.
Aidan didn’t have much that wasn’t in his hand or on his back as he struggled down the ramp into Fort Ready. Aidan was among the morning arrivals, which was good. He wanted the chance to rest up and have a walk about the facility. He wasn’t sure what to expect: one side of him wanted to be unconcerned simply because he could not think of any challenges to be had here, but the other was more pessimistic because he didn’t know what to expect.
“Two Thousand isn’t worth living like this.” Aidan muttered tripping over himself on the way into the courtyard. Aidan looked up the flag flying there. He did not salute. After his personal act of defiance, he walked to a waiting bus. Confident he was at the right location after some banter, he boarded the bus as close to the back as he could manage, and let his tired body rest.

Akaza Xado was able to sleep well on the ride to Fort Ready. When he woke, he took some time to orient himself. He realized he was among the few still on the shuttle. They were getting their things, a few of them rushing outside. With a starting exhalation, he stood and grabbed his things out of a compartment designed to protect and contain personal belongings. He then headed towards the nearest exit.

He walked out into the morning air and took it all in, the view of the large courtyard and surrounding facilities. After walking down the shuttle ramp, he didn’t take much time to glance around. He knew, like the others, where to go and proceeded straight to that area. During the walk there, his mind was flooded with thoughts and wonders on how the next few days and months would be like. Shaking that off, he went back to his original mindset :

“Do what you’re here to do and take everything as it comes.”

When Xado finally boarded a bus, he noticed a white haired guy seated towards the back. Since they were the first on that bus, he decided to give the guy a friendly nod as to say, “Well, here we are.” He took the seat on the other side of the aisle from him. He continued to wait patiently for more recruits to board the bus.

The shuttle from Ketsurui Zaibatsu arrived, bringing in the new nekovalkyrja recently born and ready for training. Among them was the wide-eyed Sanzukawa Ringo, a fairly typical NH-29 with long, straight black hair and hazel eyes. She looked around at the entrance courtyard in wonder at all the new visual information. She had the knowledge of the entire site already tucked in that little brain of hers, but this was the first time she was seeing it for herself.

"Hey, get your rear in gear and get going!" yelled a gruff voice from behind her. Ringo nearly jumped out of her boots as she looked around and noticed the instructor with the commanding voice, pointing off towards the buses. The young neko nodded and hurried towards her assigned bus. On board, she looked around at all the new faces. Well, every face was new to her, but still, these faces were the ones she was going to be seeing quite often during her training here at Fort Ready.

As the last of the recruits and their gear were loaded on the buses, the doors closed, and the buses turned on. The line of buses began to trundle down the road, moving in from the spaceport towards the Fort proper. It was a few miles away, and the buses were rather slow, so the recruits could have time to get to know one another; each bus was going to a different part of the compound, and all the groups would be remaining together during their training. Class Four's bus was the first in line, and a young man was driving it, looking not much older than many of the Yamataian recruits.

Aidan scowled at the prospect of being stuck on a cramped bus with nothing to do for more than a few minutes. He bit back an insult and readied himself. He nodded to a bald cadet who greeted him. Aidan didn’t really know what to do, he engaged himself in some thought, but the introverted, now Yamataian, just succeeded in making himself bored.

Xado stared out the window as the bus began to move. He watched as a few remaining recruits rushed to get onto a bus, designated instructors yelling at some of them. Everything seemed to be moving swiftly and efficiently. Time and plans were met with no difficulties.

He rested his head back onto his seat. Looking around without any movement of his head, he tried to take note of the other recruits on this bus. He wondered what was their story for enlisting. He was sure they had good reason just as he did.

Such dour faces these Yamataians have, Ringo noted as she looked around at some of the non-neko passengers. Being one of the last recruits on the bus, there wasn't many spots left on the bus to sit, but there was a seat in the back, next to a tall white-haired man with a particularly unpleasant look on his face. She couldn't understand why the Yamataian seemed to be in such a bad mood. After all, they chose to be there, unlike Ringo. As a NH-29 manufactured by the Ketsurui Zaibatsu, this was what she was produced for.

She smiled at the man and introduced herself. "Good Afternoon. Ringo's name and rank is Santo Hei Sanzugawa Ringo." Bowing her head politely, she added excitedly, "Ringo is pleased to meet you." Then she turned her hazel eyes away from Aiden to look towards the front of the bus. The NH-29 was positively glowing with pent-up energy as she grasped the edge of her seat tightly. They were on their way to the barracks that would be their home for their tenure at the UX-13 Training Center.

Aidan was utterly oblivious to the woman who sat next to him until she spoke. Aidan, a little startled, quickly calmed himself and turned to her. Aidan quickly sized up the person sitting next to him: Nekovalkyrja, probably, some of the Yamataians looked like the valkyries. She was antsy and energized; a fact Aidan drearily noted would likely be gone at the end of Training.
“I’m Aidan. I won’t be Santo Hei until I reach my first assignment at Fort Read,” Aidan put his hand out in a friendly greeting; a new smile on his face.

The long-haired girl was definitely a nekovalkyrja. Her cat-like ears that twitched as she listened to him, the three slender fingers accompanying her thumb on her hand as she grasped Aiden's proffered appendage and gripped lightly as she shook it. The tips of her fingers felt a little sticky, the pads providing the neko with a tactile advantage when grasping objects. With the almost childlike-innocence reflected in her face and attitude, it might be hard to believe that Ringo was hard-wired for combat situations.

"Ringo is pleased to meet Aidan," she replied, glad to see the tall Yamataian returning her smile. "Ringo hopes that her and Aiden will get along well."

The din inside the bus was a bit loud, but not overwhelming, as Ringo and Aidan spoke to one another. The large number of Nekos were clearly out-talking the Minority of Yamataians, but for the most part there was no yelling and everyone was speaking Nepleslian, rather than Yamataian. The bus rattled, it's wheels going round and round, as it trundled down the road. The training center was coming into plainer view, and a gate was approaching fast, with fences on either side. It would only be a few more minutes before they arrived, but already the recruits would notice that the sun was beginning to go down; they had arrived fairly late in the day.

"Welcome to the beginning of your military careers," called the bus driver over the intercom.

A medium-height Yamataian glanced over from the driver's seat and looked at the recruits on the bus. His semi-long brown hair was thrown together at the back of his head in a messy pony tail. One arm held the steering wheel while the other draped over his chair.

"We will soon be arriving at our destination. Please-" The driver was quickly cut off by the bus veering slightly off the road, bouncing on the rocks and dirt that lined the path. In a flurry of panic, the instructor launched himself back into the seat and corrected the bus's path.

I... think I'll tell them my name at a better time, he thought, sinking into his seat a little. So much for starting out on the right foot. Maybe I can fix it later...

Aidan did not appreciate being tossed about, neither did he wish to spend more time in the Infirmary. He was however glad to see that he was finally going to get doing something more important than moving about. Aidan laid back and released an anxiety filled sigh; today was going to get better.

Xado jumped in his seat when the bus ran off the side a little. He looked around and noticed how close they were to the barracks. He hadn't notice how close he came to dozing off. Everybody's conversations had turned into a soothing hum to him that nearly drove him asleep.

"That would've looked bad on the first day," he thought to himself, shaking his head.

Awake now, Xado sat straight in his seat and continued to watch out the window. He waited to reach their destination and wondered what to expect in the next few hours.

Ringo was obviously having a good time with the jerky movements and rough driving. "Nya~" she mewed happily. And as the barracks started to come into view, she and a couple of the other more excitable nekovalkyrja had their faces plastered to the windows on the side of the bus to get the best view possible at their new living quarters. The energy was high and they tittered to each other in Yamataian about how excited they were to start training.

Ringo herself was thinking about a certain package hidden in her gear that Dr. Nanashi had stowed away for the energetic NH-29. A gift of the girl's favorite sweets. The thought of the sugary, green candy caused Ringo to being to salivate, which might seem a bit strange given the scenery she was observing.

Aidan suddenly found himself crushed by a mass of nearby cadets eager for a look at the barracks. Other men might be pleased to be so accosted, but Aidan took the innocence and careless distraction for what it was. He wormed his way back into the corner away from the Nekos. It would be his attentiveness and wisdom that someday, these soldiers would be depending on. Could he kill for them? Aidan didn’t like the direction his thoughts were going. He looked about for something else to do.
Then, Aidan spied the over-excited Ringo, and decided to poke fun at her; what else was he going to do? Boredom had gotten the best of him. “Like to look of the camp, Ms. Sanzukakawa?” Aidan teased in Nepleslian, his own native Tongue. “Or perhaps, you’ve just a taste for windows, hmm?” Aidan grinned, good naturedly at the Nekovakyrja, wondering as an after thought if she’d take it as the friendly jab he’d meant it, or if she’d take offense.

Almost every recruit on the bus crowded to the side that was closest to the view of the barracks. Xado found himself under a few of them as he was sitting when they rushed over. His concentration was now more on the recruits instead of the barracks outside. He remained seated since he couldn't really move.

Over to the side, he caught sight of the guy he had nodded to earlier. He was talking to a neko. As much as he didn't want to disturb them, they seemed to have a lot of space where they were.

He reached out his hand to them and smiled, "Sorry to bother the both of you , but If it's okay, could I ask for some help?"

Ringo looked back at the white-haired recruit she had spoken to earlier. "That's silly. Ringo likes the taste of apples, not windows," the nekovalkyrja responded, smiling politely. Then, as the bald recruit spoke to them, Ringo turned her attention to him. "Help?" she asked, "How can Ringo help?" She tilted her head to the side questioning, her wide hazel eyes looking over him like a medical scanner.

Before Ringo could be answered, however, the bus trundled to a halt in front of what appeared to be either a meeting hall or a mess hall. The doors opened up, and by the scent wafting in, most all the passengers could immediately tell it was the latter. Outside the doors stood a lone Nekovalkyrja, With fairly short, Dark blue hair that hid much of her face. She wore the uniform of an Infantryman, but her patch told she held the rank of Juni. Standing at attention, she waited for the passengers to disembark and assemble before she would begin to speak.

"If you could help me out of this crowd...," Xado said without continuing when he looked out of the window and noticed they had stopped. He waved it off and smiled, "Nevermind. I'm sure everybody will start moving now and we ought to be doing the same." He nodded towards the person that was waiting for them outside.

He waited for the crowd of recruits to move and assemble outside before he could start to move out of his seat. As soon as people started moving, he exited the bus as fast as he could and joined the rest of them.
