Ketsurui Samurai Dissolution

I think disbanding the order and consuming the individuals into the Star Army is the cleanest way. It opens doors for future RP, and essentially allows for more dramatic portrayals and ronin.

Things as they were simply were not working, and I respect the RP that has occurred.

What would be extreme is sending the Star Army to "Order 66" the samurai, which was discussed and rejected.
Who would reject such a thing? I find that extremely unbelievable!

All joking aside I think we should take the opportunity to take some of the OOC feedback and early ideas and make some IC misconceptions. That way when characters who are uninvolved start talking politics it can be humorous while also reflecting A Slice of Life.

This is something that's been a long time in the making, since OOC, the Samurai have been problematic. Since there's now plot about them producing IC problems, which Wes sanctioned, now he may act. The next problem though, is that the proposed action doesn't really meet the criteria of producing security. Same with simply having them be taken in by the Star Army I think. It's as Fred pointed out in his previous post.

Any of you have feedback on the dual-house arrangement? It's been done before in Japan with main and subordinate houses, so it fits in quite nicely I think. It also has the benefit of not disturbing players.

Wes and I discussed about this.

He implied that just not be trusted to the priviledge of operating alongside the Star Army while holding military authority was going to be a huge blow to their pride and perceived honor. On top of the 'bloodied nose' they had before with the same of something stemming from them causing so much damage and remaining largely unchecked.

The person that they've given their oaths, their lives to, turns out plainly expressing she doesn't feel she can rely on them and goes through that measure to limit the damage they can do. They go back to being glorified clan bodyguard and have no business in the military unless they retire and transit to the Star Army - but then, they won't be part of that elite Ketsurui clan bodyguard unit anymore.

The Ketsurui samurai are made of different personalities, even if they conform to the ideal and are upstanding. some might deal stoically with the bruises to their pride... just as much as others could see this as the beginning of the end and choose ritual suicide to preserve what honor they think they have left.

I was personally concerned that Wes orders would diffuse the apparent gravity of the situation, but when we chatted yesterday on Discord, we worked out a few things to live up to the IC build up of this scenario while minding the existing player characters too.

I have to admit, that's an interesting perspective I didn't quite perceive. If this is going to be written on the wiki's history, I suggest detailing this, and why it was a big deal for the Samurai in a similar manner. Otherwise, it'll likely be lost to, well, history. I'm still concerned with your original point though. This is a non-tangible 'soft' measure, using their honor to rein them in. There won't be any tangible 'hard' measures, or am I missing something?

I could see the dissolution of the Samurai forcing them to turn to the setting's variant of Shinto as well...or feel like they have no choice but to yield or join a resistance movement of sorts...

Though it might seem unflattering, I think it's the best way to go about it since it would have the least impact on PCs. If you consider Wes' vision of the Samurai to be the main house, the subordinate house allows players some leeway to play their Samurai the way they want, since the original vision is very strict and even unforgiving to the point that in past RP, they'd be decapitated for using the wrong greeting.

I know, but at this point, it seems Wes is dissatisfied with the Samurai enough that he'd greenlight Fred's plot so he can take it all down and build it all up again. Because of that, we have to be practical about this and figure out a way to build the samurai so that this won't happen again. Rather than demanding every player's samurai act in a very particular way, this lets players have it their way instead, while keeping the image Wes wants perfectly intact. It's a have your cake and eat it too thing I believe. If you have a better idea though, I'd be glad to hear it.

Wes' solution was pretty well received, other than from people whomst have never played samurai characters, so further discussion seems rather moot.

I care about what happens to the samurai too, even though I don't play them Raz. You don't have to be mean about it. In the end of the day, it's just harmless talk and brainstorming. If Wes or Fred like any of the ideas this thread comes up with, they're free to use them. Otherwise, they'll go ahead with what they're planned. This is their plan after all.

Here is what Wes will have happen to my knowledge according to the post linked later:
  • some samurai will commit seppuku
  • some samurai will join Kotori
  • some samurai will join the star army as transfers of equivalent rank if before YE 40
  • some samurai will become civilians of some kind
  • some samurai will be allowed to be royal guards (4.)
  • some samurai will keep their bodies as long as they are still employed by the Star Army of Yamatai or by the Ketsurui Clan or Ketsurui Zaibatsu
@Wes none of this has changed from the post I linked above, right?

It's going to be a great story, and I think folks will enjoy reading it too. We've got a great group of writers and we'll be adding some others who are just as amazing.

As long as other players' Ketsurui Samurai characters generally aren't punished because of whatever your "great writers" do, sweet.

Ouch, that was harsh Raz. Everyone knows that Fred and Doshii do some of the very best, high quality RP on the site. It's practically the stuff of legend. On top of that, it all has to be cleared by Wes too. You yourself said you liked what was being outlined by Wes and Fred right? I mean, I'd like something a bit different, but I thought you were on board that a few posts ago.

I think he was just quoting what Doshii said, not doing the"airquotes good writers airquotes" type thing, Cadet.

It could have been worded better, but that's not the real issue here. Wes and Fred's plan is a solid one, but I just think it could be better, that's all.

Well ultimately Doshii is the one putting the real samurai house plan into action. Talk to him about this too.
