RP (non-canon): D&D Mission 1: Getting "Acquainted"

Denkou sighed, not sure if she should believe the lack of interest this man was showing in possible areas to loot. "Aye, and with your recent luck, they're waiting at the top, just to nail you with another spell or something." That said, she closed the doors quietly (no point in going out of their way to wake anything Aurelus's screaming hadn't, after all) and made her way over to the stairs, patiently waiting at the bottom. "Now get your broken ass down here, so I don't have to squeeze past all of you."

Talarin nodded as he stepped down from the stairs. "We can always explore the building when we destroy this artifact." he said, guessing at what she was thinking, after all he wanted to look around himself. But business first, like his daddy always said. He gave her a small knowing grin.

After everybody lumbered their way down the stairs Denkou made her way up. Once she saw blood on the floor she crouched and peered around searching for the trap. After locating the trigger she made her way over and disabled it. From down below the others could here a faint click followed by "All clear!"

Talarin heaved a huge sigh of relief. "Finally, we're getting somewhere." he said aloud as he took the stairs two at a time. As he reached the top he looked around at the others. "Ya coming or what?" he asked with a grin.

At the top of the stairs stood a door, clearly unlocked, and it was clear that there was a large light source on the other side for a eerie, red glow was coming through the cracks.

Aurelus was somewhat better now. His distinct lack of health at the moment was annoying, but it'd have to do for now.

After hearing the 'all clear' from Denkou, he climbed back up the stairs, holding the bandaged wound as he did. "Alrigh'! Finally we get ta get ourselves rid a this accursed disease! Praise Pelor!" He was in behind Talarin and Denkou, and the other two were behind him, he assumed.

Talarin leaned against the wall next to the door and motioned the others to move away from out of the door. He hefted his spear, and started to slowly prod the suspiciously unguarded door open. He glanced around once to see where everybody was.

Through the doorway, Talarin could see a man, his back to the doorway, arms stretched out. In front of him was a floating jewel about the size of one's fist. It was glowing a vibrant red and emitted a low humming noise. Apart from that, nothing else was visible in the room.

Talarin decided to blast first and ask questions later. He raised a hand and started to murmur the necessary words to unleash the magic. He ended the spell and pointed his finger at the man to release the small glowing dart of pure magic. He then pushed the door in and stepped inside and to the left. Out of anyone's way that would come in behind him.

Ghira stepped into the room, then moved to the side and pressed himself against the wall. He observed the floating gem with a particular interest in the magic behind it, then noticed the man.

"How in the name of the Deep Imaskar does that device work, I wonder?" He asked to nobody in particular. "If need be, I can try to identify the gem, but we'd need to make sure the man doesn't attack us.

As he came close to the door and climbed behind Talarin and Denkou, Aurelus brandished his shield. The source was obviously glowing in there, but chances were there were going to be some minions there guarding it.

When the door was blown open, Aurelus came in behind Talarin, taking out his throwing axe and winding his arm back as if to throw it at a moment's notice. To his pleasant surprise, there was only one man in the chamber. They outnumbered him 5 to 1, so he was fairly certain that whoever this was, they could take him on.

"Surrender or get ready ta eat iron, stranger!"

If battle was to ensue, this man alone wouldn't pose a threat. If any forces were summoned or more men appeared, then it'd be a matter using the windows in the tower as goal posts to bull-rush enemies out of. No point in fighting in such an enclosed space as this.

The moment the magic entered the room the man ducked, the magic missile striking the jewel behind him. Before the magic missile had even hit the jewel, however, the man touched several corpses. Instantly these corpses rose, two skeletons and a zombie. The jewel, having been hit by the missile, wobbled backwards a little bit. The light in the room flickered for a moment, and then remained steady. Them man now began moving his hands and chanting, several seconds later two molten masses of oozing flesh appeared and took the shape of humanoids. The man then turned to the group and grinned.

Keeping to his promise, his axe arm having already been wound up for the throw, Aurelus threw the axe directly at the necromancer. Whether it hit or not, he would not bother with. He had aimed as well as he could and threw it, then proceeded to unsheathe his sword and slash at the skeleton near him.

Sorri let Denkou by, then lagged behind the others as they ascended the stairs. From where she was, the healer couldn't see much, just the dim glow of a light filtering through a cracked door and between the four people standing in front of her. Then the door opened further, there was the sound of spells being cast and Aurelous attacking...

Squinting and trying to find a view of what was happening, Sorri heard a gurgling sound, and some rattling...she spotted an upright bone, moving on its own, between the sudden rush of movement as the attacks began. What was that? she wondered. Whatever it is, please protect Aurelous from it. He is very wounded, but we will need him for us to survive this. And not just this group. The whole town is relying on us.

Talarin growled as he missed with the magic missile. He'd never missed before. He held up his hand and started casting the spell at the necromancer again. Joanna popped out of her pocket and started making her way around the undead and heading for the necromancer as well.

Bracing himself for any potential physical attack, Ghira held his staff in front of himself, summoning his familiar back into this plane of existence - onto his arm holding the lower end of the staff. With a simple nod and and a gesture, he directed the snake towards the Necromancer, and off it went. It slid down his arm and slithered its way across the floor, attempting to not get stepped on or attacked by the zombies as it made its way to the enemy spellcaster.

As the tomahawk stuck into the necromancer's side he got blasted by Talarin's magic missile. With a cry of rage he winked out of existence before Ghira's snake even had time to attack. The creatures now sprang into action. The zombie, a skeleton, and one of the molten humanoids headed straight for Aurelus, since he was near the front. All three struck, the zombie and the humanoid missing, but the skeleton scoring a direct hit. One tho opposite side of the room, Denkou had advanced forward to attack, but was met halfway by the second skeleton and humanoid. Both clawed at her, but only the humanoid was able to hit the agile rogue.

Immediately after, Denkou struck back at the humanoid with her short sword, barely missing.

Talarin blinked as the necromancer disappeared. "Where'd you go." he asked of the necromancer not expecting an answer as he turned to the molten creature that was attacking Aurelus. He raised his hands and cast another magic missile at the creature. "How bad are you hurt, Aurelus?" he called out in concern.

As the group crammed into the room, Sorri was able to get a better -- but still partly obscured, due to the flurry of activity -- view of what was attacking. She took out her staff and joined the fray, staying clear of the goo and the zombie while taking every opportunity she could to get a strike on the skeleton. Goo was not something she felt a staff would do much against, and the zombie just gave her the shivers...

It seemed he had hit the necromancer, but had missed the strike to the undead creature. When he turned his eyes to look to see if the necromancer was down, he noticed the zombie and the other hulking blob of flesh coming his way, and he turned his shield to block their attacks and prevent them from flanking him, but left himself wide open to the skeleton, which struck at the opening with bravado.

"GRRRAAHHH!!!" He tumbled sideways, moving closer to the exit and hoping to close a distance between himself and assistance from his friends, and trying to position himself where he couldn't get flanked.

When he heard Talarin's question, he answered in a mad fit. "THA BONEY BASTERD GOT ME IN ME WOUND! I AIN' DANDY, TELL YE THAT!" Aurelus held his shield up and awaited an attack from any of the bastards. With Talarin right next to him to his left, and the wall to the right, he made sure to stop any advancement of the undead from behind him, and avoided getting ganged up. "C'MON! TRY THAT AGAIN YE MOTHER-GAPIN SKINNY BASTERD!"

He put his shield in front of himself, and raised his sword high above his head.
