RP: YSS Eucharis [Mission 11.3] Back Into Chaos

Medical Bay

Since Michael gave no indication of complying with Sune's order, he had no choice but to relieve the Elysian of his weapon, and escort him to the #1 Containment cell. Stubborn, prideful he jeopardizes his team mates by not withdrawing as ordered, then he decides to forgo treatment as a form of penance. he thought.

He turned to check the status of the crew members in the tubes leaving Mikael to Blueberry's care.

Captain's Cabin

Hanako facepalmed as she got the message about Michael. "And do you want to take Michael P. with you to YC-28?" she jokingly asked Helen as she left her room to return to the bridge. Next, she altered the ship's course to bring them towards the space of the newly-discovered Gartagens and got on the intercom.

"This is the captain. We should meet at dinnertime, which is in 15 minutes. There is a new alien race to meet and I would like your input on how we can best get to know them. I would like everyone to be involved in this mission. Also, I will be helping cook the meal tonight, so do not miss it! The current readiness condition level is three. Hanako out."

Medical Bay

Sune did a double check of Takeyu's status, tissue regrowth leveling off, vital signs all within normal ranges. He thought, and cycled the tube to drain and rinse him off.

He looked over at Yaichiro's vital signs. Like Takeyu his regeneration was complete and his vitals were acceptable to Sune. He then initiated the tube while he went and got two sets of scrubs for the two to wear until they could get to their cabins and more suitable clothing.

He placed them on the table before them, and set about cleaning up the Medbay before he would head out to change into a clean uniform.

Medical Bay

Takeyu relaxed a bit and flexed his legs. "Ok, this I won't get used to," he said while moving his leg back and forth to make certain everything worked properly then got dressed into the scrubs that was provided.

"Thank you Sune-Chui," Takeyu bowed at the superior officer before turning to leave. In the midst of leaving the medbay, he stopped and looked over at Micheal and gave a shake of the head in disappointment, he was more than willing to help the soldier out despite what had happened but now he wasn't to certain he could do anything.

Kiko got onto the table for examination and looked at Sune. "Should I emotionally manipulate Michael-hei into complying, sir?" she asked calmly, in the same tone she'd have used to offer to fetch someone coffee or stand guard over something that nobody had yet been assigned to.

Captain's Cabin

A small laugh escaped Helen's lips, though, she did shake her head in a notable 'No' to the offer of the Elysian crew member, even if it was a joke, she had to make it quite clear she did not want the winged menace aboard her ship. She parted ways with Hanako, taking the opportunity to file reports regarding both the mission which she had just returned from, as well as her ongoing mission aboard the Eucharis.

Yaichiro and Helen's Quarters

When the mention of dinner was spoken by Hanako, it made Helen's irritation and distress regarding the recent conversation melt away... she was hungry, she had not eaten since the mission, and her NH-27 body was quite unhappy with that fact. Though, she still had to focus on the job at hand as she silently went about composing and sending reports, tasks which were handled entirely within her Nekovalkryja mind. As she went about her work, she cleaned up her part of the quarters that she shared, as well as went about organizing things to be readily packed when the time to leave would arrive... of course, that notion was put off as Hanako changed course for newly discovered territory.

"Oh... this should be interesting." Helen said quietly as she shook her head softly. She was in intelligence, and she knew full well what Hanako's past history was with species outside of the Yamatai Empire. Though, such things were not her concern, at least not for long since she was to be leaving as soon as they would arrive back in port. For the moment though, she knew she had to carry out her duties. She had time, precious time to continue her work for SAINT. She just had to figure out how to play her cards right.

As Helen mulled the matter of her SAINT duties over, she went about getting dressed, considering she was merely wearing a projection over her skin. Since it seemed that her duty shift was over, she went about dressing in casual attire, a calf-length black skirt, a simple white blouse, and a black tie with a SAINT emblem decorated clip, purely for accessorizing. She looked at her shoes as she went about fixing her hair, finding that she lacked a proper pair for the moment. A purchase through PANTHEON later, she also had a pair of loafers which she slipped onto her feet before she went about leaving her quarters to head to dinner.

Yaichiro donned the scrubs, and flexed his newly created limbs... "I believe this will be my...third set of limbs and my...fourth arm specifically. I keep the first one on a programmable life support system to remember the occasion. Thank you Sune, Blueberry...

Papadopoulos-Hei...you are an experienced soldier...I had hoped you would know that there must be balance in your actions. Not to let guilt over a previous action incapacitate you for future ones, but still allowing it to change and improve you..."

With that, the Chusa turned and left the room for his quarters, his limited facial expression looking more saddened and disappointed than angered -- for those who knew how to determine.

Yaichiro arrived in the quarters, noting Helen's presence...he started to change out of the scrubs and into a new uniform, not really sure what to say to Helen. He was displeased with her performance, that much was certain to him.

"...Why are you out of uniform? We are not yet in a friendly port or relieved of duty." Yaichiro asked, unaware of the outcome of Helen's meeting with Hanako. He still had his suspicions for the reason though.

Medical Bay

Michael's eyes blinked, and he shook his head, as if he was awaking from a deep sleep. Looking around, he realized that he had been placed into a confinement chamber. Looking to Sune, he cleared his throat to get his attention, and started speaking.

"Excuse me sir, but I apologize for not responding. I had begun to review my actions during the mission again, to indicate if I had done anything dishonorable, and in the process I inadvertently ignored the outside world. It was not my intention to completely ignore your questions, and I would consent to a medical examination in light of a review of my memories of the mission."

Helen and Yaichiro's Quarters

Helen paused just before she reached the door, turning to Yaichiro, looking upon him with a measuring gaze. She needed to talk to him, it was part of her ongoing duty, that much was certain. "My watch ended, it is night watch now, Sir." she replied simply, and that much was true, though she did toss in the 'Sir' since it seemed that she was being scolded. "Nice new limbs, how is the bird-man?"

Yaichiro wasn't scolding, he was simply thrown for a loop.

"Ah. Sorry, I don't usually see people out of uniform period...if I'm on a ship and not injured or unconscious, I'm usually in uniform or some kind of standard issue suit regardless. That's just me though. As for Papadopoulos-Hei, he's in the medbay...he feels bad about what happened and refused medical treatment as some soft of self punishment or penance. Of course, that opened up new problems for him.

He'll need to adjust to survive here...since dying on that station or losing his own limbs in teleport wouldn't teach him a thing, I'd hoped a controlled situation where a comrade was harmed might wake him up before something really bad happened next time. We'll have to wait and see if he can find a balance between recklessness and inaction."

Medical Bay

Sune pondered Michael's statement from the Cell. Is he sincere, or just does not want to be in confinement. At least I can get him treated and then move on to getting myself clean.

Sune walked over to the cell door looked at Michael, "From the reports I have received, it is clear that you have much to think about. However, I do have a duty to heal. I will take care of that, once done you may consider yourself Released on Own Recognizance.

Ultimately what happens to you in light of the events on the mission and here in the Medical bay is in the hands of the Taisa. Until she renders her decision, your sidearm will remain confiscated." He said as he activated the door release.

He walked over to the closest medical bed, and pulled out the necessary tools.

Crew Cabins

Takeyu disrobed and tossed the scrubs onto his bed for now, then pulled out a clean uniform from the closest and put it on. He stood there for a moment and looked himself over, making certain everything was, in fact, in there.

His mind wandered to the previous mission and the stuff he had to do to improve himself. Though the prospect of meeting a new race was rather intriguing to him. "To bad it's a race, and not some corporation or business, would be able to put my diplomatic skills to good use. Against a race? Eeeeh, far to many uncertaincies there," he said with disappointment.

He waited for a few moments then folded up the scrubs and placed them to the side before heading out to the galley.

Engineering

Junko sat at her station in the Mainspace, dutifully monitoring systems and authorizing adjustments recommended by the computer. She had heard the Captain’s announcement and desperately wanted to go to the dinner; specifically, she wanted to hear what exactly their next mission would consist of. The previous one had taken place with her effectively in the dark, save the peripheral results of combat that had necessitated damage control.

Still, for the moment she couldn’t leave, as she was now the only person in Engineering. Kumiko’s departure had been abrupt, but understandable. After all, Junko was sure that she had a lot to do to get to her training assignment on the Vesper. Sitting back in her chair for a moment, Junko pursed her lips in thought before resolutely snatching up her handset and ordering the computer to put her through to the Taisa.

“Captain, this is Engineering. Takeda speaking. I’m requesting relief in Engineering, if there is crew available to cover for me. Cherry-Heisho, perhaps?”

"He would have promise, if he were tossed out to the wolves with a knife and no one else to be concerned about." Helen spoke as she frowned a bit at the notion of the Elysian combat pilot. "His people, by tradition, and by indoctrination, have developed a method of operations which is simply incompatible with our own... our own being in reference to the ways of the Star Army in proper. We work as a cohesive unit, with heroics only when such things are needed for the good of the whole. Elysians, they've developed a methodology which focuses on the individual combatant. Their power armor, weapons, ships, and even synthetic constructs focus upon the power of the individual. Needless to say, to ask Michael to function within the Star Army of Yamatai is to ask a fish to learn to walk on land. It is painful, difficult, but possible. However, during the course of him getting his legs for this form of service, there may be more cases of missing limbs, or lives. Thank the Empire for prying ST technology, yet another item focused on the individual, from the grasp of the Elysian people."

With her opinion on Michael voiced, Helen decided to work back to the topic which she figured was burning at Yaichiro heavily. "Yaichiro, we have a few minutes before dinner... want to talk about what happened back there? I know that look that I've been getting, it is that same look whenever someone sees my black panels. That look like I'm some sort of terrible beast, that look reserved for dogs that bite, and prisoners confined for crimes unspeakable. Can we speak of what happened?" She asked, in part for her own interest, and at the same time she was doing her job which she intended to carry on, even if she was doomed to be tossed from the ship at some future point.

Wardroom

Hanako gathered up her ingredients with the help of chef Lime: Rice, eggs, freshly-cooked peas and diced carrots, sauces, onions, salt, meat, shrimp, scallops, and a large slab of soft butter. All these were put in a cart along with a long metal spatula. Most of the sprites had come early, although she sent Cherry to engineering to relieve Junko.

The Taisa wheeled the cart out to the teppanyaki table exactly on time as dinner hours opened, and fired up the gas stovetop.

Junko stood and offered a friendly smile and nod to Cherry as the neko arrived to relieve her. She spared a brief glance around the Mainspace for a moment and then exited into the main corridor. Moments later she was ensconced in her quarters pulling off her dirty jumpsuit and generally freshening up. Between that and donning a clean, fresh uniform she felt quite refreshed. After staring at a mirror and poking ineffectually at a few stray hairs, she decided she was ready enough and exited her quarters before clambering up the stairs to the wardroom.

Once in the compartment, she glanced around, already detecting the aromas of the grill. A smile broke out across her face as she spotted the Taisa manning the cart of ingredients. The scene was far from unwelcome, but nevertheless such a display of domesticity was still a little outside of the picture of a battle-hardened warship commander Junko carried inside her head. She settled into a seat at the end of the main table and collectively greeted the officers present - the Taisa and former sprites - with a slight bow of her head.

Yaichiro and Helen's Quarters

Yaichiro regarded Helen, and pondered her words before taking a seat. "I don't think you're a monster because of the organization you're in or your skillset...there are places where you and your organization are very useful. I just have some problems with how the last mission was conducted, as well as how your skills have been...utilized in that situation.”

"You've been around a while, right?" Helen asked, semi-rhetorically, as she took a seat upon their bed, crossing one leg over the other as she folded her hands in her lap. "Tell me, as you remember, how did our Empire conduct operations against our enemies? How was this Empire which we serve forged?" She asked, knowing full well that it had been forged by blood, built upon the carcasses of fallen empires which came before.

Yaichiro looked to Helen, full well knowing the answer. "The Empire fought its enemies ruthlessly and without hesitation or consideration for any interests aside from its own. Just as you are...the problem is that it was dumb luck that the people aboard that station turned out to be enemies. Were they not, we'd have been assaulting a sovereign nation, and your actions would have been particularly inexcusable...your tactics work best when there are no consequences, when no one is watching...being on a ship with a Princess means things aren't that simple. Governments watch this ship, WAITING for the Taisa to mess up or to do something which they find disagreement with...see where I'm going?"

There was the initial urge to want to laugh at Yaichiro's somber nature about what went on, but it was nowhere to be seen on Helen's features, she wore the face of someone who looked regretful, and spoke with such practiced sincerity. "Yes, I see where you are going. It is very well true, a mistake could tarnish the Taisa's reptutation, more so than what it already has been. Though, what is worse... to risk a reputation, or the lives of those under my command? Hesitation could have gotten you and everyone else on that team killed, and that would have looked bad for the Taisa as well if she were to send us to die, without any clue as to what we were faced with." Helen explained as she frowned softly. "Failure looks just as bad at this point, especially after the inquiry which Hanako was faced with. They already doubt her, they already have issues with sending her out. I could not allow our mission to fail, for her sake. So I did as Yui, Chiharu, and Irim would do, I made a choice, for the good of the team, the Taisa, and the Empire."

Yaichiro gave a sigh. "It was a no win situation, I suppose...though to be honest, when you gave the order to kill instead of stun anyone in the crew cabins, you lost a lot of respect from many on the team. Things work differently after the current Empress took power. I know the need to resolve the situation...I invented the targets, and feel personally responsible for the task of seeing them destroyed, but there are better ways to do it. Part of it may be my fault -- as an Advisor, I was pulling double duty in Engineering and was unable to hear the Taisa's plans from the bridge to speak against the idea. I have made recommendations about changing that oversight. Unleashing you, however, should be reserved when the enemy is clearly known...your skills seem more geared toward extermination of the enemy."

“Yaichiro, I will be the first to say... I've done things, I've done things to earn the look which people give me. These things that I have done, and will do again, are for the Empire and to keep it safe. When I killed those people, it was for the Empire. If the Taisa made a mistake in her haste, I wanted to make sure there was no one to speak of it. Silence any voices which may rise against our Empire, there can not be an implication made, if there is no voice to speak it." These words which came from Helen were truth, pure truth, there was no deception in the slightest as she looked Yaichiro in the eyes. "If I killed anyone who was not a combatant, if I killed anyone who could be called innocent, I regret that, but I also would do it again since their deaths ensured the survival of all of us."

Yaichiro seemed uncomfortable with this, but also scratched his head. "There's another reason I am uncomfortable at the moment...but it is a recent and specific thing...I have suspicions about security leaks...Eucharis has gone on many secret missions where the enemy has been unexpectedly waiting. One even resulted in a CFS collision the odds of which were infinitesimal...it's been mentioned, but not really delved into to my knowledge. SAINT assigned those missions, I believe...so it's either a SAINT issue or a 1st XF issue. I would be on guard around any new officers aboard for a time."

Yaichiro's words caused Helen to raise her brow, of course to him it would appear as surprise, but for her it came from the fact that he was spilling a concern which he had previously kept under lock and key. "I see. From what I know, the last time SAINT had a leak was during the duration of the Black Spiral operations. Security has been tight since then, aside from changing Directors like one would change pairs of socks. In truth, SAINT's influence is at an all time low, since the Investigators have been put into place and the Empress put those new laws into place. As for how things are conducted within the First XF..." Helen trailed as she frowned a bit and shook her head. "This part of the fleet has taken heavy losses, there have been too many individuals marked as MIA to really know just how secure information within the First is. Though...that does not discount some other form of information breach." Helen invested some thought into the matter, and decided that it would be a subject worth investigating. "Have you approached the Taisa about this concern?" With that, she turned right back to her investigation.

"Yes. I believe it was shortly before the inquiry if memory serves...I believe you were present for that, but perhaps you weren't listening in." Yaichiro said, trying to recall exactly when.

"I know you spoke of that much, but... I would not be much of a SAINT operative if I did not have a gut that told me when someone is overly concerned. You're really worried about this, and I just don't think the Taisa is aware of just how much things weigh on you." Helen said, her sympathy persisting as she looked to the engineer, or more accurately, the man who longed for when he was merely an engineer.

"...Perhaps it's paranoia to a degree. When the UOC split from the Empire, it was not by the will of those who founded it. Those who did the work rebuilding the 5th XF and tried to improve the Empire were not the people who led it astray. Katsuko-Taisho was Empress, they stood on the cusp of the reforms that the founding people desired, only for it to be snatched away by the Tange who pushed for separation. I even investigated an unsolved murder that happened before the split occurred, which may or may not have been related...I don't want such a thing to happen within the 1st XF. Such a thing happening to the KMS is one of my worst concerns, though possibly unfounded.”

There was one thing for sure, Yaichiro raised some valid points, and those would certainly be part of Helen's thoughts. "Your concern is valid... the KMS is already practically its own nation ever since it was cut off from the rest of the Empire. They're entirely self sufficient, and when the former Emperor took the area, he had enough ships to arm the Empire twice over. His timing was also very questionable..." She frowned at that point, a genuine issue in her heart as she recalled just why he left, and questioned her own self about what she would do if she ever met the man in person, but that thought soon passed. "I think what you fear happening, if it is possibly happen, would be well underway and would be very difficult to stop."

Yaichiro sighed, leaning back on the bed. "He left in part because of the intelligence that Katsuko confronted him with about the Elysian Plague. I was standing there when they spoke about it."

This time, Helen could not help it, the laugh escaped her lips as she shook her head lightly. "Yes, yes, I'm familiar with the circumstances surrounding his departure, as well as the 'Elysian' plague." She frowned a bit at that point. "He would have every reason to make his own nation, you know this, right?"

The Chusa nodded sagely. "Actually seeing it was enough to shake my faith in the Empire for a time, I should confess...and gave the UOC a reason to cede. What ISN'T commonly known is that Melisson is the one who told the Nepleslians, who told Katsuko, who confronted Uesu-sama. It was a well executed and disruptive move on her part. Such an enemy can cause the Army to split with just an utterance. Knowing this makes me stay on guard."

Helen could agree with that point, after all, it even sparked a doubt in her. Of course, she had her reasons, but it was not a matter of loyalty to the Empire, it was a matter of loyalty to the clan which benefited from genocide. "Do not lose faith in the Empire over such things... they were the choices of a few at the time. Back then, such a terrible thing was done by something as questionable as a private company and a few scientists. Nothing resembling the Empire which has come about since." She spoke her own reason for remaining loyal, and not losing faith in the Empire which benefited from the deaths of so many, including her own parents.

"Oh, I figured that out on my own, or I would not have stayed with the Empire...but that does not change the fact that the Empire is more fragile than most wish us to believe. Expeditionary Fleets by nature are designed to operate independently should the Empire fall, and are well suited to separating should they wish it....and the 1st XF' has obtained a good deal of Yamatai's offices as of late, for the sake of its more secure location. I daresay that aside from the actual influence of the throne, the KMS is more stable than Core Yamatai...and that makes people think dangerous things, Shosa."

To be honest..." Really, genuinely, honest, a rarity from Helen, "I think it is a good thing at this point... anyone, even outside of intelligence, can tell that our Empire is in trouble. I hope for the sake of our way of life that the KMS, and the UOC, can prosper to ensure that if or when the NMX manage to take Yamatai, we can be sure that not all of us will end up in a lunch box."

“Oh, such is the role of an Expeditionary Fleet's holdings. The problem is when someone takes advantage of the transfer of power."

"What transfer? Power would remain within the clan. If the First assumes control, Taisho Yui would be in power. If the KMS assumes control, former Emperor Uesu would be in power. Even if the Taisa were to take control for some reason, power would remain with the Ketsurui clan. They have made sure that power will not leave their clan any time soon." Helen spoke, and it did seem to be quite the elaborate plan, enough so she could be certain that they had put it together many years ago, perhaps even before her own birth.

"I had meant the transfer from one location to the other, sorry...but I hope it is really that simple." Yaichiro said, getting up. They had to go to dinner, after all.

"Perhaps... we could discuss this more later?" Helen offered as she got up as well, and approached Yaichiro with a hand extended for a traditional Nepleslian sign of good will. "I am glad that you felt that you could still speak to me... even after what happened on the station."

Yaichiro shook her hand, accepting the gesture. "We can't change what happened...it's our job to try and keep a smooth chain of command for the soldiers -- even if it's a confusing one."

“For the time being, while I'm somewhere in that chain here, we'll work for those under us, and for the Taisa." Helen spoke, as she shook his hand, then gave a soft smile. "Now, let's get to the Wardroom, I'm starving."

Yaichiro nodded, and left the room with Helen to go eat. He couldn't taste the Taisa's cooking, but he still looked forward to it.

Medical Bay

Sune injected Michael with the scanner microbots from the PMS-1, and set about doing his physical examination. As he examined the burns in the Elysians wings, he started receiving data via his Uno Sunglasses. He had them overlay the data over his patient so he could readily correlate the two.

There were ruptured capillaries in both wings from exposure to hard vacuum due to the damage to his armor and then teleporting into deep space. There was also signs of both scalar and x-ray radiation damage to the wings and some of his other bodily systems. The worst was in the wings though.

"Papadopoulos-Hei, you have a number of issues that your body will need to recover from, but none of them are immediately life threatening." Sune walked over and picked up a hypospray and a Hemosynth injector.

"I am giving you are rather healthy dose of Hemosynth, so that your body can heal the exposure damage, the x-ray damage and the scalar damage. I am also giving you a pain reliever and an anti-nausea to help you stay functional." He said as he pressed the first the hypospray to Michael's arm, then followed up with the Hemosynth.

"There is no structural damage to your wings skeletal and musculature systems, but I would recommend avoiding strenuous activity for a few days. Though stretching exercises would be beneficial. You have lost some feathers I do not think its enough to impact your ability to use them, and they should grow back in time."

Sune put down the implements and and secured the medical supplies.

"You are released on your on recognizance. I will notify the Taisa." he said standing at the door.

Taisa,
I am releasing Papadopoulos-Hei on his own Recognizance. Understands that his long term status is in your hands. Jalen-Chui

Galley

Takeyu stretched his arms as he entered the room, but then took a quick bow due to the presence of the Taisa. "Taisa? Do you need any help getting things set up?" he asked as he entered the room and walked over to thet able and stood there for a moment.

All the while his legs still felt a bit odd to him.
