Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Even with the order from Hanako, Helen just did not like the situation. Sure, kidnapping was something she was used to, she had even abducted people for the exclusive purpose of executing them... but something just felt 'off' about retrieving Koharu. Even if she were cooperative, would the locals be? Again, they were in another situation with limited fire-power, and the distinctive possibility of being outgunned. Though, who was she to argue with orders?

"I'll piggy-back on the shuttle, ma'am." Helen said, as she broke into a momentary flight, only to land on the roof of the shuttle which Blueberry had landed. "It'll give me better capacity to deal with any threats that may pop up." With that, Helen knelt low to the shuttle's hull, low enough so she would not interfere with any of the combined field system functions. Well, more like so the combined field would not interfere with her by roasting her helmet if she stood up too high.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

"We might not be able to stay long," Hanako told the crew. "The NMX probing just stopped at the edges of the system. This means that they are probably gathering their forces for an attack soon. Takeyu, in light of this, the base doesn't have to be fully finished. Just try to maintain a secure area from which we can conduct transport operations."

As the others spread out in the residential area, the zombies continued to fall back. Hanako's shuttle took off toward's Koharu's residence.

Below, the once thriving city was a ghost town, its citizens dead or on the run...or under NMX control. The survivors were probably staying underground to avoid the parasites.

Jiyuu System

A massive NMX fleet appeared at the edges of the star system, surrounding it in a spherical formation, and immediately began firing on the Star Army ships.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Figuring he should follow Helen, Ramiro took off into a flight and landed on top of a nearby building. Following the direction of the shuttle, he jumped from building to building, activating his flight if it would require him to make the jump. If there were any enemies or zombies in the streets below him he would just fire a quick shot or two as he passed above them, figuring it wasn't worth his time to stop.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Reika aided Sune in dispatching the last of the zombies within the warehouse, whilst her tactical drone opened fire upon the partially grown Mishhuvurthyar parasites that writhed upon the cold, damp floor. The second drone the Neko operative had left outside the warehouse was kept watch upon the surrounding area and tracked the movements of their remaining enemies. Reika noted that the NMX attack had largely ceased, whilst the surviving zombies that had assaulted the Eucharis away teams position were now moving away either to regroup or in full-blown retreat.

"Sune-Taii, the zombies outside seem to be pulling back from the rest of the team's position." the Neko said to the XO with her armors comms system.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Sune surveyed the scene one last time to ensure that none of the parasites survived. "Let's get back to the Eucharis, and we will see if we are needed there, and if not we will see what other tasks the commander has for us."

He lifted off in his armor and exited the building. "Ketsurui-Shôshô, we have neutralized a parasite maturation installation. At the moment it appears that the NMX forces have ceased hostilities. Do you have any other tasks for us or should we return to the ship?" He sent.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Takeyu continued to monitor the perimeter. "Roger that ma'am," he made a quick glance but his instincts were already telling him to get himself ready. Really wish we had automated turrets, why do I get this feeling they are pulling back to regroup for a push... he hoped his instincts were wrong.

Taking another look around, and checking his drones, he made certain every ounce of cover was set up. Some of it was comprised over overturned tables and concrete blocks along with a mixture of other debris that he had found in the area. Since the Shosho didn't want a fully built up base, just an area to defend from for the transports, this was the best he could do given the amount of time they probably had.

Shuttle En Route to Koharu's Residence

Perched upon the top of the shuttle, Helen peered down at the ground below, not just through her power armor sensors, but the shuttle as well through the IES link. From her perch, Helen was able to spot civilians, Peacekeepers, parasites, zombies, as well as various other groups of personnel. Tokyo was busy, that was for sure. Deciding to take advantage of her position, she fed the data from her sensors into the motor controls of her armor, aiming down, and taking shots at targets of opportunity, such as parasites which were out in the open, and zombies which were obvious in their intent. Bursts from her forearm weapons were short, and the movements of her arm were quick snapping jerks which were distinctively computer guided as she took care not to cause excessive collateral damage. As she took her shots, she wondered inwardly just how things were going to go with the mission in the long run.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

"Everyone not on the shuttles please report back to the ship," Hanako ordered, "we have a space battle on our hands. You can leave the generator."

NMX forces continued to enter the system, flooding the area with starship weapons fire. The Star Army ships, still out of effective range, were able to avoid some of it for the time being and were returning fire with their energy weapons.

Meanwhile, some of the starship weapons the NMX first fired were hitting the planet. In the distance the away team could see several beams hit the surface followed by a shockwave and some mushroom clouds.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Ramiro crouched down on top of one of the buildings as he starred at one of the mushroom clouds in the distance. Shit, she probably needs me to fly the ship, but am I just supposed to abandon aiding with the S&R? Shaking his head a bit he commed in to Hanako. "Shosho, what of the VIP? Are we to just leave him behind?"

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Eucharis
Sune touched down just inside the shuttle bay of the Eucharis, and then walked into the power armor bay. He secured his armor in the rack, and returned his armors weapons to the Armory.

Armor secure Sune made his way back to the bridge. He took the Mission Ops station, and pulled the locators for the various members of the crew.

Seeing the weapon strikes he brought up the upper half of the Eucharis' CFS to create a dome above the ship. He was not going to have the Eucharis get slagged sitting on the ground if he could help it.

He picked up the handset and selected the away team channels, "Eucharis to all Away Team members, due to planetary bombardment the upper shields are active and at full power, do not attempt to enter the ship via the shuttle or armor bays without notification. "

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Takeyu backed away onto the cargo-bays loading ramp and knelt down, he knelt the school in his sights and watched for NMX while waiting for the rest of the team.

Sighting down his rifle, he watched the distance, lights flaring from the explosions brought on by the NMX weapons. "Not enough they take control of people, but now they destroy the cities to," he shook his head in disgust.

He glanced partway to his side, his eyes looking in the direction of the generator, before staring forward once again.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

The ground below rumbled with spreading shockwaves from starship weapon impacts.

"Get the last of the local survivors into the cargo bay," Hanako grimly ordered as the shuttle set down outside Kokaru's house. Like most of the places around, it looked like it had seen better days but was mostly intact. The rear door opened at the back of the shuttle. "Helen, take point!" Hanako ordered as she rushed out into the street towards the gate, holding her gold pistol with both hands.

"Star Army Rescue Team!" the shuttle's external speakers loudly identified them to whoever, if anyone, was inside. "We are coming in!"

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Takeyu kept an eye out, rifle resting on his left knee while he knelt there. As he was about to contact Cherry to inform her that he was heading aback in, some movement near the edge of the high school caught his eye. "Hmm?" he brought his rifle up and peered down the scope.

His eyes focused on a group of civilians, running toward the Eucharis's cargo ramp. "Geez," he said and stood up and ran down to the edge of the ramp and waved them forward, glancing to either side he watched as the group got closer. He could see a young teenager was being helped along, her shoulder over that of a male who appeared ot be close to her age.

He observed the group of civilians as they quickly passed by him and boarded the ship, heading up the ramp and into the cargobay. Glancing back out toward the high school, he scowled before quickly running up the ramp.

Taking the sight in, he looked around for those who were injuried. There were several, most of the civilians that he could see had light wounds, scraps and bruises and a few cuts at most. One person had a broken hand, based on how it was twisted in a direction it couldn't normally twist in. Another person had a gash down their legs, but someone had already applied a makeshift turneket to it.

There was a female child being carried in the arms of who he assumed was the girls mother, she had bandages around her forehead, part of the bandage was stained lightly red. While an older gentlemen limped across the floor, his right leg broken from the knee down, he was being helped along by an older female, who could've been his wife.

However, soon he found a few whose wounds were much worse, a young girl wearing a plain dress had blood staining the right side of it. When he ran up to her and knelt down, he checked and saw that it was a wound caused most likely by an NMX weapon. The redness was deepening, and a small pool was beginning to form.

There were others though as he had noticed. "Nayacesen-Juni to medical, I need some assistance in the cargobay! Got several wounded civilians that I need help with! Bring med kits! We got a girl who is losing blood fast!" He sent as he used his free hand and pulled a medical kit out of his bag while he used his other to stoch the girls bleeding.

He set the kit down and used his free hand to open it up and retrieve the items he needed to stop the bleeding, but he lacked the IV bag's that had plasma.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Ramiro was only moments behind the shuttle. He had decided that he wasn't much use in the ship without the Shosho there. Besides, it was closer for him to continue following the shuttle than it was to simply turn around. Landing on top of a nearby building, Ramiro crouched down and started scanning the building, eyes flicking around to see if there was anything worth noting that was visible through the windows.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

A soft whistle came from Helen as she monitored the situation which transpired, things were clearly getting out of hand, but it all was flushed from her mind as they landed and she bounded from the shuttle. With the Shosho's order, Helen burst into a sprint as she grasped her NSP from the holster on her Kylie's thigh, then charged for the front door of the residence. Once there, she quickly moved to the side of the door, knocking upon it firmly. "Star Army of Yamatai! Open the door or we will enter by force!" she announced, as she thumbed the control on her NSP to a stun setting. She gave another knock, this time, a little firmer than she should have, certainly enough to leave dents in the door. As she waited those few seconds, she wondered just how many ways a trap could be set with such bait. NMX, Tange, disgruntled UOC citizens, and the Lorath... they could all be laying in wait inside of the house. That, or any one of those parties could have interest in a self-proclaimed UOC citizen with links to the leading clan.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Hakujou looked up, she was busy studying cultures of some kind she had with her under a microscope when the call came in for emergency medical to the cargo bay. Before anything else happened she was already assembling a medical kit and racing out the doors.

"Samples, samples!" She hummed to herself, hoping that she might run into an infected while she's there.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Eucharis

Reika had headed back with Sune to the Eucharis as per Hanako's instructions. Whilst the neko made her way back to the warship, she saw the blasts and felt the slight tremors caused by the distant NMX bombardment of the planets surface.

Hopefully, the rest of the away team will make it back before any significant attention turns towards the Eucharis. All we would need now is for them to start taking shots at the ship whilst the others are stuck outside.

Bridge

Reika joined Sune in the ships command center -- noted that he was seated at the mission ops position -- so she took a seat at the sensor station in order to monitor the positions of the NMX and perhaps give them some forewarning of any trouble headed in their direction or in the direction of the away team.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Takeyu let out a sigh of relief as he finished up the bandage and applied pressure to stop the bleeding, he wanted to move around and check everyone elses wounds but he couldn't, or else he may risk losing this child. Then again, with how close the civilians were not to mention what he saw when they came in, he didn't have much problem just glancing around and taking in the scene for himself and pairing it with his memory.

Code:
To: Hakujou-Juni, Shiomi-hei

I am sending you a list of injuries, so that you can treat them easily once you arrive. This is based off what I saw and am seeing in the cargobay, I can't leave my current patient or she may bleed to death.

Patient One: Little girl, side is ripped open, was able to stop bleeding but she'll need urgent care if she is to survive, suggest her to be handled first. Needs blood quick.

Patient Two: Older gentleman, looks to have a broken leg but no other services injuries. Bruises and cuts on face and arms.

Patient Three: Teenage boy, gash across the backside of his leg. Tourniquet is applied but will need to be changed, doesn't appear serious, suggest he receive care after first patient.

Patient Four: Older women. Broken hand, no serious life-threatening injuries to note.

Glancing back down at the child, he sent a copy of the message to Sune just in case their medics didn't arrive. I have no plasma here... he said, his face hidden by his helmet would've shown a look of worry.

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

Inside Koharu's house, the extraction team found signs Koharu had left in a hurry, with closets open and scattered and dishes left unwashed in the kitchen. In the bedroom the covers and one pillow was missing.

Hanako picked up a small statue of the YSS Yui from the bedside table, and squeezed a button on the top. "Hello?"

A female voice answered. "Hinosami? I had to evacuate. I do not want to speak long because the transmission could be traced."

Hanako looked to Helen and replied, "I am here with the Eucharis and if you send us your coordinates, we can get you out of here. As you can see the NMX has begun to attack the system. We have evacuated as many people as we could find alive on this planet."

"Give me a minute," Koharu answered.

Hanako waved Helen back towards the shuttle and jogged back to the craft. Just as Hanako was about to enter, a parasite slammed into her side, knocking her over. Hanako screamed as it tried to burrow inside and fired her pistol into it point blank, spraying gore everywhere as it exploded. She grabbed the still-twitching head and pulled it free. "Aaanh..."

Re: [Mission 13] Ghost Towns

After deciding that the building was empty Ramiro hopped down from the building and crouched down near the doorway, figuring he'd act as guard while the other two were inside. As he crouched, looking around for ant hostiles, he carefully listened to what was happening inside. When the two officers emerged he stood and walked beside them, still looking for hostiles. Ramiro caught a glimpse of the parasite out and tried to jump in front of it as he called out, "Parasite!" But it had hit Hanako before his feet were even off the ground.

Picking himself up off the ground, Ramiro saw the statue of the YSS Yui on the ground next to Hanako and grabbed it, figuring they didn't want to leave it behind. "Sorry Shosho," he said as he grabbed her, awkwardly threw her over his shoulder, and began sprinting to the shuttle.

"Koharu. If you can hear me, we've been attacked and Ketsurui-Shosho is in need of medical attention. If you want to make it out of here then we're going to need those coordinates ASAP!"
