Akemi silently followed right behind Sune, mimicking his actions. She wasn't bothered much by the fact that their plan was facing trouble so soon. As long as she saw some action and performed well she would be content.

Shuttle Bay

Hakujou entered the shuttle bay, to see.... An Empty shuttle bay. She looked around for a moment or two. Then shrugged and walked back to her medical bay.

"My my, some friend she was. Not even waiting for me." She muttered.

"Six... seconds." Helen said, as she turned in her seat, silently looking at Takeyu before she sighed and got out of her seat. "We're bailing out, they're just going to track our trajectory at this point and investigate our LZ." she spoke, as she sighed at the sound of the radio, wishing Hakujou were to be on-time for once, though, it earned no reply from her as she continued to speak to the shuttle crew. "Only take what you can carry, and what you can conceal or pack away so it will not vaporize or explode during entry." she instructed, as she made her way to the rear of the shuttle. "Line up, prepare to leap out! Quickly! We need to do this as soon as we hit the atmosphere. We will then glide to the surface, and conduct a short anti-grav burst to halt our descent no more than ten meters above ground. Set your AIES to do the operation for you."

Shuttle

The pods got a visual on the shuttle as it made its fiery descent and started firing on it. With the shields down for stealth reasons, the shuttle was extra vulnerable.

An explosion rocked the shuttle violently, then several bolts of energy lanced through the rear door of the shuttle, cutting into the occupants. One of the bolts penetrated into the cockpit and hit the controls, causing an explosion of electronics and starting a fire around the impact point. Takeyu could see reentry flames shooting through a bullethole in the windshield above the burning control panel. A surviving panel to the side was showing one of the engines was hit and burning.

Shuttle

Takeyu momentarily shielded himself from the impact followed by the flames, his power armor was already reading an increase in the exterior tempreture. "Controls are shot," he commented as he quickly got out of his seat. "We have one burning engine," he said and turned toward the two occupants in the back.

"You heard the Shosa you two, grab only what you can carry and line up quickly," he said as he went into the rear compartment and made ready to jump from the damaged and burning shuttle, though not before setting his AIES as per Helens instructions.

What is Left Of The Shuttle

There was a string of obscenities from Helen as she felt the impacts against her armor, she was thankful for the old machine clad in Zesuaium, but it was not enough to keep her completely safe, as she felt the burning pain of high-intensity energy cutting into several points of her body, causing her muscles to shudder as she quickly forced herself to regain composure. She was thankful not to have any 'major organs' that would have resulted in her death. "They know we're here, so let us show them what we've got!" Helen exclaimed, the sound of anguished pain in her voice as she kicked open what remained of the rear of the shuttle.

She was not about to be taken out by some measly battle-pods, she was not about to lose her team to them, and she was not about to be killed before she even hit the ground. When the back-door of the shuttle was out of her way, she opened up with her Aether-Gatling. Short, quick, and precise computer-guided bursts came from her weapon, as she brought up her arm and with it the forearm projector, before unleashing streams of energy.

"Takeyu! Interface with the shuttle, full burn on what engines we have left! Everyone, before we impact the planet, we're going to jump out as originally planned, but one-hundred kilometers away from the impact-zone for the shuttle." Helen exclaimed, as she continued to unleash the vicious firepower of her Kylie upon the tailing battle pods. "Takeyu... I want you to leave the engines on full burn even as the shuttle comes near the surface, we're going to use the impact as a distraction and cover. Direct us beyond the horizon in relation to the enemy ships." she explained as she brought her Kylie's shields online and directed them to her front and the rear of the shuttle, while she interfaced with the operations-systems of the shuttle remotely, and brought the reactor systems back online, and the shields as well. She was not going to let them land another cheap shot on her and her team, she would simply not allow it.

Shuttle

Reika snarled in frustrated surprise. She'd barely had enough time to activate her Daisy's energy cloak as the weapons fire from the enemy battlepods hit the shuttle. The energy field flared to life and formed a protective coating around her power armor, though not before she was somewhat singed -- a quick diagnostic showed that the Xiulurium stealth coating of her armor and her sensor pack were compromised.

The operative cast an annoyed glance at the metallic case housing the explosives she'd prepared for the mission -- fortunately the enemy blast had proved insufficient to instantly breach the cases integrity and blow the shuttle and its entire contents to hell. Reika quickly picked up the case and with the removal of a few non-essentials, added it to the contents of her armors butt-pack. The butt-packs were designed to be somewhat heat and radiation resistant -- hopefully with the added protection of her armors energy shield, the case and its contents would survive her attempt at landing without a premature detonation -- if not, her trip would be cut short rather explosively.

The operative stood and turned to watch Klein fire out of the shuttles now exposed rear section towards the pursing enemy battlepods. Picking up her rifle, she moved to stand ready beside Klein and the rear opening -- she didn't fire as her projectile weapon as it wasn't designed to operate in a vacuum or for the range from which the enemy pods were attacking-- not like Helen Klein's aether-based gattling could... Reika knew she'd just be wasting her ammo.

With a soft voice and a slightly self-mocking laugh, Reika addressed her senior officer, Shosa Klein. "So much for protecting our ride home..." She was referring to an earlier instruction by Helen to protect the shuttle, made back on the Eucharis prior to their departure. Unfortunately, Reika's armor was not designed to make orbit from the surface, and so now that their shuttle was essentially out of commission and soon to be destroyed, the operative knew the rest of Beta team might have to leave her behind even if their mission had a successful outcome -- there was no guarantee that it would be possible to utilize the other shuttle or bring the Eucharis down for a retrieval. Strangely, the thought of being left behind didn't bother her as she thought it would -- though she also felt that if she had to die today, she was going to take as many mishhuvurthyar squids to hell with her as was possible.

Shuttle

Totomi was curled up as much as her seat restraints would allow her. She was doing her best not to look scared to death being on her first combat mission. But she was failing miserably in that task. But luckily for her she no longer to mull over what all could go wrong in her head when the shuttle was rocked with an explosion.

The "muscle" memory she learned from her training went into the play activating her energy shields. Which saved her life when a bolt of energy slammed into her suit, causing her shields to shimmer beautifully.

"So much for that.." She somewhat loud, but not enough to que her radio on.

There was a laugh from Helen, even as hemosynth blood dribbled from a breach in her armor, though the dribble soon became a trickle, and the trickle soon decreased to mere drops. "You seem to have a good sense of irony Reika, I like that." she said, as she continued her work as an impromptu tail gunner. "Totomi, when we jump, Reika is going to be at a mobility disadvantage until we hit the ground. I want you to piggy-back her to the ground. Then, when the time comes, if we survive long enough, it will be your job to carry her out unless we can find alternate transportation."

Shuttle

Takeyu gave a nod and remotely interfaced with what was left of the shuttles control systems, with one engine already dead, he had to use hte thrusters to keep her aligned. He fired the remaining thruster at full burn, then as per Helens instructions, he directed the shuttle so that it would be beyond the horizon in relation to the enemy ships.

"Full burn active," he stated as he watched the display on his HUD and made minor corrections in order to keep them in line.

Below the Eucharis

Sune watched as the battle pods opened fire on what had to be their shuttle. His presumption was confirmed moments later when the shuttle was bathed in reentry flames and destructive lances from the battle pods.

Shit. Well, this mission is going down the pipes fast. Hopefully those aboard the shuttle will get out. The question now is how best to proceed. he thought.

Ramiro followed Sune out of the ship, adjusting his trajectory as Sune did. The sight of the shuttle ahead of them, being obliterated by battlepods, seriously worried him. Damn it! Why is it that they are ALWAYS where we are. Can't we just have one mission where we get lucky and they leave us the hell alone!?

Ramiro shook his head at himself as he began contemplating what options there were left for the team. He was about to contact Sune with an idea when he realized the graveness of their situation. If they found the shuttle that easily, that means they're probably tracking just about everything that they can. He didn't know much about detection of Laser Communications, but his dear was that transmissions of more than a second or two could alert the enemy to their presence.

Deciding that short contact was the best option, he sent a quick communication to Sune, "Radio silence?"

Sune looked at Ramiro. He spoke his message and the AIES transmitted the following.

Laser communications only. The AIES will keep transmission to point to point. So unless an enemy ship passes between us. They can not intercept. I am checking with the Shosho that we are still go. Our work just got a lot harder, without the Beta team identifying our objective we are going to have to improvise.

He then queued up a second message to Hanako.

To: Eucharis
Beta team status unknown. Requesting confirmation that we are still go for orbit. If we are go will make for orbit and then either try to look for indications of surface structures, or if hostiles head down we will follow them.

Bridge

The ship rocked as Hanako suddenly jerked it out of the way of a flurry of massive anti-matter shells sent from the enemy Chiharu flagship; the enemy had calculated the shuttle's reverse trajectory and was now firing at where it thought the shuttle might have come from. Hanako tried to maintain high stealth while backing off from the killzone.

If you think you can make it to the planet, you should go. The planetary teams will probably have to lay low and avoid NMX ground forces while attempting to find or contact the VIP. I will have to keep our distance to avoid this unbalanced space battle.

The flaming battle pods came around for another pass, spraying more hot aether into the shuttle from the left side, ripping dozens of holes through it. The shuttle began to tumble rapidly, losing control.

Out the door

Misato watched Sune and Ramiro step out the door, shrugging the last of her doubt away she push out from the door. Looking at the ship as it drifted away she adjusted her course to meet up with the others and follow them into reentry. She watched the shuttle take damage, the mission just went gunny bag. She follows the other two, she tried to guess the where the shuttle will crash down. Maybe we’ll be able to find them and rescue the lot.

"Enough of this." Helen grumbled, as she saw more sky than shuttle as it was torn into by the NMX pods. She was thankful not to have a natural equilibrium, as she felt the wild tumble of the shuttle, before she linked up with what was left of the shuttle command and sensor systems, patching in her own PA systems for ones which were damaged.

With her targets in sight, Helen spoke to the team. "I'm firing the shuttle's weapons, at the very moment they finish firing, jump out, and head to the surface and get below ground cover. We will meet in the forest at the map-grid tagged on your AIES" Helen ordered, as she activated the weapon pods, mini-missiles spewed out from the weapon pod, non-stop, tapping into the full eighty round payload as Helen went for the hatch and prepared to jump. As the last volley fired, she activated the counter-measure pods, then leaped from the shuttle, diving for the surface of the planet as she hoped for the best for her, and the team while activating the active stealth systems of her Kylie.

Seeing Misato go out the door, Konoka quickly followed. When Konoka saw the shuttle take damage, she wondered if those inside were alright. Knowing it was all she could really do at the moment, Konoka just tried to follow the others in the process of reentry.

Bors resealed his helmet and took comfort of the snap-pop of the seal locking in place. Flexing his neck and rolling his shoulders Bors took a deep breath to steady his nerves," Hope I don't turn into a charred puddle of goo at the end of this jump" he said to himself before taking a long step out of the Eucharis.

Tomomi motioned Reika to get on her back. As soon she felt the added on weight, she jumped and activated what ever stealth system her suit might have had. She did her best to compensate for the added on dead weight, but she could already feel the suit's propulsion systems protesting to working harder. "Just hold it together until we are down." She muttered to herself, following the rest of the team to the best of her abilities.

Takeyu gave a groan as he jumped out through the hatch and into the atmosphere, watching the shuttle as it flew away from him. While he free-fell toward the planet, he activated his armors stealth systems to help hide him from the enemy, and hoped that none of them took any pot shots at him and then made for the surface.
