Re: Mission 18.1 - Winter Leave

Warehouse

Mitsuko shivered in the cold as she hurried inside the warehouse. "Brr...w-wait, you're not even sure it's all here?" She looked over the list, eyes wide behind her glasses, committing it to memory easily enough. The Neko seemed worried about the state of Misato's cargo, but just standing there wasn't going to change things. Taking a deep breath and gathering her resolve, Murakami dove into the work. Misato could hear her mumbling to herself as she went, sorting, organizing, taking a proper inventory.

If Suzume wasn't careful, she was likely to either be bumped aside by the focused Neko or simply sorted (in the 'Organic' section under 'M') and moved to the proper location in the storage facility along with everything else.

Re: Mission 18.1 - Winter Leave

"I would say shopping first" Bors said as he waved for a cab, "No use in getting all washed up before we work up a sweat in the holiday crowds."

"Thanks," Takeyu smiled as he walked up to the two officers and gave them a curteous bow of the head. "Happy to see you again Sune," he said and glanced over at the person who was with Sune and cocked his head curiously to one side.

Hanako looked over to Emiko, too. "I do not believe we have been introduced," she told Emiko and Sune. I am Shosho Hanako, captain of the YSS Eucharis and commander of the First Expeditionary Fleet's strike squadrons. Sune has served under me for a few years now. He is a good man." The golden-eyed Taisa gave Takeyu's hand an excited squeeze, looking over to him for a moment. "And, he is returning to the Eucharis!" she added.

Around them, hundreds of shoppers milled about, carrying their jackets and bags stuffed with purchased merchandise and the air buzzed with conversations and winter music.

Warehouse Area

A yellow hovercar cab driven by a half-bearded Nepleslian immigrant pulled up near Bors. "Where to, boss?" the guy asked, sizing up his potential fares.

Emiko watched the interaction of her master's with his female friend Hanako. With her hearing she was able to clearly pick up all of the conversation. It was clear to her that they had fixed whatever rift had come between them. Watching Sune with his friends, it pleased her to see him happy.

After Hanako's comment she replied, "No, we have not been introduced, although I am very familiar with both of you from Sune-San's conversations with me. Besides it would be difficult to not recognize the Hanako-Hime."

Sune smiled at his friends, "Allow me to take care of introductions, they got side tracked by the emergence of Luca Pavone earlier." He said, then putting his hand on Emiko's shoulder.

"This is Jalen Emiko, my personal research assistant. She is a Douryo Android from Emrys Industries. I acquired her several months ago; she tends to my experiments here on Kyoto.

She is also the only person who could keep up with a sugar high and caffeinated Konoka. Which was an amusing event to watch.

Since I am encouraging her growth, I invited her to come out and experience the city."

He picked up one of the bags he had carried in, "Takeyu, these are for your sisters. Its a VCE console, and a pair of Tsuibo Orbs." He said offering the bag to his friend.

"I also got a console for the Eucharis, and a Tsuibo Orb for all of the crew." he said to Hanako.

Just Outside Eucharis

"Sounds like a plan then!" Natsumi replied as the cab drove up. She quickly popped open the back door and slid inside, making herself comfortable as she waited for Bors to get in after her.

"Hehe, this is going to be fun" she said, grinning at her room mate. "I need some winter clothes anyways, summer stuff I got on Hanako's world definatly wont work in the snow!"

"I see. I am pleased to meet you, Emiko," Hanako told the android, giving her a small bow. She looked to Sune. "Thank you for the gift! They seem to be very useful devices. Is she...fully sapient?" she asked, looking back to Emiko.

Next, Hanako also asked Takeyu when his sisters would arrive.

"Emiko is far too young to be fully sapient. But there is no intrinsic limitation in her construction to prevent her reaching that status. Which is probably just as well, because I am hoping the laws regarding such will be updated, amended or something.

I disagree that all Sapient AI, should be required to perform military service. We do not require that of other citizens, and frankly putting them into the service when their status is still incomplete seems wrong to me. They have no protection in that case, for example if Emiko were to conscripted into service. She would probably be treated as just a piece of hardware. In much the same fashion as early Nekos aka Sprites were.

Mental backup technology do not work with mechanical constructs, so if she were destroyed, she would be lost forever." Sune replied, "So for now I encourage her to learn and explore. She helps me with my research and I compensate her so that she will have money for books, and visiting establishments."

"Ah," Hanako nodded. "We should probably get started. The day is going by quickly," she said. "I would like to get a gift for each of the crew members while I am here today."

Sune thought back over the years, and the various, occasionally lavish gifts that Hanako bestowed upon her crew members. "So, do you have any idea what you are looking for? Or is this going to be an expedition to find the perfect items?" he inquired

"Times like this make me realize that I do not often get a chance to sit down and actually talk with the people on my ship. Even though we have served together for a long time in some cases, I have no idea what they want this year. Added to this is the complication that this ship, while it is our home, is not a house and certain things do not really belong on the ship or fit in shared cabins. So I may just have to select small items that support their hobbies," the Shosho explained. "Is there something you have in mind? Something you want?"

Sune listened to Hanako, he understood what she was saying all to well. The people that they spent their lives with and depended upon them, while crew members. Many of them were almost strangers beyond their service records. At her request about something he wanted, Sune resisted the urge to say that she already gave him what he wanted.

"When I was away from the Eucharis, I found myself missing the little things, the breakfasts together, the meals. the chatter on the bridge. When I was exploring the Firebird when she was first brought to the Warehouse I thought about our crew, and wondered if the the former crew had those memories, And then about what had happened to them. It was one of the reasons I came up with the design for the Tsuibo Orbs. A way to share memories, and to view them with others. As for myself I have found that I like collecting books, old ones especially, but even new ones have an appeal. I find when I sit in a comfortable chair with a book, that its a wonderful experience. Very personal, because I am holding the words that the author wrote down in my very hands. So if you can find some old books, those would be fine. " he said with a grin.

"Alright," Hanako replied, making a mental note. She mentally went through the list of crew members starting at the top. She leaned in to whisper into Sune's ear: "Do you think food is a good gift? I know Takeyu would like an apple pie."

"Actually food items would probably be a good thing, and they can share with their room mates or other members of the crew. After the food shortage and eating rations more that usual. I think that would be good." He said after a moments consideration. "Perhaps fruit baskets or the like, if Konoka was still aboard, coffee and candy." he said with a grin.

"In addition to an individual gift, I want to give some gifts. I am thinking another rolling luggage piece and a shower bag would be a good, useful gift," Hanako told Sune. "Maybe I can get a Eucharis logo embroidered on them."

"Hmmm..." Sune thought about that idea, The food was a brief feel good item, the shower bag was a daily use item, and the luggage could be used when the person was on shore leave so it would have happy memories connected to it.

"That would be a good thing, They could use the luggage when they have leave and want to stay at a hotel. And the shower bag they can use daily. So I think you have come up with a good combination."

He did a quick count of the current crew, he came up with at least 14 pieces of luggage. "I wonder if the shopping center has carts available for rent. Because that's a lot of luggage." He thought about what he could add to his gift, most of the crew was unsurprisingly female.

"I think I will just have it delivered," Hanako chuckled.

"That's good. I just had an idea, need to check the shopping center directory. I think I want to get some gift certificates for a session a spa. Preferably one that is not just local." he answered.

"Oh. Are you going to join me at the onsen this afternoon?" inquired the golden-eyed captain. "I am certain it will be very relaxing and pleasurable."

Pleasurable definitely, relaxing... that may not be entirely true. he thought as the image of Hanako in the Onsen last year came to mind. "I can not think of a better way to spend the afternoon. Just hopefully this time no fighting demonstrations.

What are you wearing to your dinner tonight?" he asked remembering that most of Hanako's possessions had been lost to a fire in her cabin.

"I will have to buy a kimono or an cocktail dress," Hanako answered.

"It is a shame that the fire destroyed that little black number you bought the first Year End Celebration we were together." he said.

"I will get a new black dress, then," Hanako assured Sune. "For Blueberry, I am going to get her a very fancy makeup kit, and for Blackberry, some magazine subscriptions since she works odd hours."

And at least it won't be tainted by a certain elysian, thought Takeyu as he listened to the exchange going on between Hanako and Sune. He hadn't said much right now, his mind more pondering what he should get for the crew as well, it was truly at a blank other than small items. "Not really sure what to get the crew myself either, I don't really talk much with them," which he knew wasn't a good thing.

"Is there something in particular I could get for you, Takeyu?" Hanako asked him.

The Taii blinked for a moment, and glanced up at the ceiling as he tapped his lower chin. "I've always had a thing for models, ships, stations, that type of stuff, although not exactly easy to have onboard of a ship," he smiled.

Hanako stroked her chin. "Modern or historical?"

"Any to be honest," said Takeyu.

"Okay," Hanako said.

Cab

"I could use some myself" Bors said as he slid in the cab next to Natsumi closing the door. As he told the cabbie to head towards the nearest mall he tried his best to make himself comfortable as the car sped off towards their destination.

It had been awhile since he had been on Yamatai, the last time he was about to ship off for training to become part of its military. As Bors watched the Yamataian skyline fly by though his foggy window, he tried to think of something to say to his roommate to break the awkward silence that was starting to grow.

"So... have you ever been to the city before? Outside of training that is."

"not really, but I doubt anything would have been stolen or misplaced when they were delivered here. i want to bring the case of wines back to give the crew, the box of grenades for personal use, one of the robots maybe, and differently the bike"

Misato Looked over every thing pull out the few items she wanted to bring back to the ship. Making sure everything was where she wanted it. "I got the balk of this during a Halloween giveaway, thought I could sell some of it and start a junk business to fund my future interment, when ever that is. Anything you see you would like? just speak up and it is yours."

Imperial Center Mall - Lunch Time

After a few minutes, Hanako met up with Lime and Mango and after they were done shopping they put their bags in the rental van and went to get lunch in the food court. Hanako was still wondering if Takeyu's sisters would be able to meet them and occasionally checked her communicator (without actually pulling it out of its belt holster) to see if Takeyu or Sune called. Spotting a nice-looking sushi bar, Hanako and the cooks went inside to eat. She sent the crew her location in case they wanted to join her. In a few moments, she started with a shrimp tempura roll.

Imperial Center Mall - Lunch Time

Sune had let Hanako go off on her shopping, since she had presents to get so he took Emiko around the shopping center and let her explore the stores, and the activities that filled the center. He was in a very good mood after his discussion with Hanako. Although there was still much for the two of them to discuss, he looked forward to spending some quality time alone with her while on leave.

He spotted a shop and asked Emiko to come in with him while he made a purchase. The two of them then waited outside and watched the young ones are they engaged in traditional holiday activities. Sune was sure that he was finding this as interesting as Emiko since he never had a childhood.

Once the item was complete he picked it up, his communicator chimed and he saw a message from Hanako who was preparing to have lunch. He let Emiko know and the two headed to the sushi bar.

"Perhaps you will get a chance to meet some more of the crew, it is unusual this year. Normally when Hanako goes on leave most of the crew likes to go with her for part of the time." he said. A few minutes later they were entering the shop. He walked over to the table, he pulled out a chair for Emiko and after she was seated, he took a seat.

"Hello Lime-San and Mango-San, it is good to see you again. Enjoying your shore leave I hope." he said to the ship cooks, he then turned towards Hanako. "Have you completed your gift shopping? I took care of my errands, and Emiko and I were enjoying ourselves watching the youngsters."

Warehouse

Mitsuko seemed satisfied after reorganizing the jumbled items. "...the body part should be disposed of. Mmph." She wrinkled her nose. "...you might be able to sell this...um...section of hull for scrap. I'm not sure that reselling the other items would turn you much of a profit, Suzume-chan." She gestured to the extremely large bottle of whiskey. "I believe this would make a fine gift for Bors-Hei, though. Or Klein-Chusa...but I don't know how you would get it to her..."

She frowned as Misato wheeled over the motorcycle. "The other items you plan to bring aboard the ship can be marked as personal items and easily stowed. However, this vehicle would require proper registration, special handling, maintenance and space in the vehicle or cargo bay, not to mention a supply of fuel." Murakami sadly shook her head. "I...I'm sorry, but I shouldn't let you bring this aboard. Unless you ask the captain for her approval..." She gave an apologetic little bow after that, before being distracted by the message alerting the crew to Hanako's current location at the sushi restaurant.

Re: Mission 18.1 - Winter Leave

Imperial Center Mall - A little bit before lunch

After the group had dispersed, Takeyu decided to go off to find his sisters, knowing that they most likely got lost. As he walked, he stopped near a fountain and stared at the cascading water and smiled weakly; the water gave off the impression of comfort and peacefulness even though such tranquilty could be interrupted at any moment.

As he walked past the fountain and toward the food court, he stopped when he heard two familiar voices. He glanced through the crowd and around the area until his eyes fell upon his two young sisters, both were wearing a school uniform so it was easy to make them out.

He waited for a moment, to see if the two would notice him, and when they didn't he smiled mischeviously and walked around the crowd and behind the two.

"Where is Onii-chan.." complained Sakura as she looked around nervously, one hand clutching a backpack while the other was in a fist up her the edge of her mouth.

"I'm sure he's around somewhere..." remarked Layvin, who had a kitty-like bag on.

As the two continued to look, Takeyu slowly crept up behind them, then as he placed a hand on each of their shoulders; he said. "Right behind you~" in a creepy voice that caused the two to freak out and jump. Takeyu burst out laughing at the reaction, and got a few reactions from some passerbys in return.

When the two girls settled down, they turned to find their older brother standing there. "Onii-chan!" they both shouted in unison and hugged Takeyu. Takeyu knelt down, accepting their embrace and giving them a warm, gentle smile in return.

"It's nice to see you two after so many months," he said and looked up at the crowd, thankful that no one was actually watching. "Come on you two," he pattered them on the shoulder. "Let's go see if we can find 'them'," he smiled and grabbed Sakura by the hand; Layvin didn't seem to want her hand held when he went to hold hers.

The three of them made their way casually through the mall, until they arrived at the Sushi Bar, having passed several shops along the way.

Cab

Natsumi relaxed into the comfy seat of the cab she and Bors now shared. She looked out on the cold city landscape beyond, watching the icy vista slip by as the cab coasted along the snow covered ground.

"Yeah, quite a bit, when I had free time from my training" she replied. "Not that there was much free time" she laughed a little. "Some classmates and I would go spent what little funds we had to visit the Onsen and relax when we could, the classes were pretty tough. It was nice to have something to take out minds off it just for a little bit"

She sighed. It was amazing really, how little of her home world she had actually seen. Capital city, onsen, military academy and star port plenty enough, anything else, no.

She looked back at her companion and smiled. "How about you?" she asked. She knew that unlike her, Bors was Nepleslian and not originally from Yamatai, but she was curious if he had visited her home world a lot.

Imperial Center Mall - Food Court

"Is wonderful! I am having a good time, even though it is a little tiring and I feel lost in such a huge group of people," Lime answered Sune. "At times like these I feel a little jealous of tall people like yourself. At least you can always see where you're going!"

"There is a lot of inspiration for recipes that I see when we go out," Mango commented. "The captain has expressed interest in a sushi lunch on the Eucharis."

Hanako gave Sune an affectionate squeeze. "I have got most everything I could think of; those and the items I pre-ordered have been put in the van," she told him.

Spotting Takeyu and his sisters, Hanako waved them over.

Meanwhile, the cab pulled up outside one of the entrances to the mall.

Sune chuckled at Lime's comment about tall people. "Believe me in this crowd it does not always help. Especially with people carrying packages and such."

He returned Hanako's squeeze. "Sushi lunch... well variety is always good, and well you would not have to worry about keeping everything hot." he said to Mango with a wink.

"Glad to hear your were successful, I got what I was looking for." he replied to her.

He gave an order for some spring rolls, sushi, sashimi and tea for himself. He smiled seeing the Takeyu was approaching and had located his siblings.

Emiko reviewed the menu and simply ordered some tea and spring rolls. She understood that her sensei wanted her to learn to socially interact, and that meals were a particularly active place for such. But she did not see the need to acquire a bunch of food when there were still restrictions and she did not truly need it.

Re: Mission 18.1 - Winter Leave

Takeyu smiled as he walked into the court and looked around, his eyes falling upon Hanako and Sune. Sakura and Layvin, who hadn't noticed, were instead looking around like two curious kids - which they were.

Then their eyes fell upon Sune and Hanako, the two recognizing them right away. "Princess!" the two said together, ran up, and bowed to her.

"Hello Layven, hello Sakura," Hanako greeted, standing up and giving the girls each a little bow. I am glad you could join us. Are you spending the day with Takeyu?"

After everyone was seated, Hanako said, "After we finish lunch, I want to briefly stop by the ship to drop off our purchases and then we will ride to the onsen to spend the afternoon there."

A waitress came by to distribute more menus and to take drink orders.
