Ether Surface - Landing Area

Due to an apparently lack of urgency, the storm was upon them more quickly than anyone anticipated. First, gale-force winds rushed down the mountainsides and began buffeting the team members and the shuttles. And now, snow was starting to add to the mix, creating occasional gusts of white where it was impossible to see. The surface temperatures and pressure rapidly dropped, and the Eucharis away team found itself in a developing blizzard.

Inside the shuttle, Mitsuko could feel it not only rocking but also slowly sliding across the surface as the winds pushed on it.

Ether's Surface - Inside Shuttle

Mitsuko watched the work continue outside, noticing more snowfall drifting into the area. As the wind steadily picked up, the situation began to seem more urgent. She considered how to respond, as the shuttle silently swayed. When it skidded a few inches on the frozen surface, she let out a surprised squeak. Glancing around inside the shuttle, she began to be properly worried. Information about the shuttle and Ether were pulled up and compared as she contacted their current commander. "Misato-Heisho, I'm afraid this storm seem rather serious. The Telemachus V is no longer resting stably. Recommend we either properly secure the ship to the surface, find a more sheltered landing site or leave the surface entirely."

Chieko's suit pinged her as the pressure dropped significantly, however the storm, already too close, was making itself felt long before. The walls were not done, and the snow was starting to pile up to her ankles as she tried to add more blocks anyway. This effort as well was too little too late as the wind began blowing in the blocks and the scientist began feeling herself being blown over.

The academic managed to stabilize herself some in the trench that had been made, but that still was not enough. The young Minkan would have to make a decision between being blown about, getting to the shuttle, or curling up in the trench and allow herself to be buried so that the snow that would cover her could protect her from the worst of the elements. She soon made her decision and curled up into a ball next to the lip of the snow trench closest to the direction the wind was coming from. Doing this, Chieko knew that at least this way she couldn't get blown away and her suit would keep her from getting wet from melting snow aiding in keeping her warm should the worst happen.

Once the young woman felt stable she sent a message to Misato:

Code:
Heisho, we're screwed if we don't do something. Do we duck and cover, or get the hell out of here?

The storm rolled in far faster the the drones reports first claimed. With a string of curses Misato heard Mitsuko then Chieko chime up. Misato was pissed, opening a private comm to Mitsuko, "Take the shuttle and go back to the ship... you don't want to be here so head home."

She cut the come with the logistics officer and turned back to Chieko and Takeyu, "We will load up in the tank and head towards that NMX base we hit last time, it's closer then the SAoY base. Riko Bring it in so we can load up. Also collect your squad on the way here."

She opened a private channel with Takeyu, "This is falling outside of my planned operation, and an emergency situation has developed. Do you wish to resume command? Or shall I continue going on with this?"

Takeyu raised a hand to shield himself from the blowing snow, it wasn't exactly an issue given he was in armor but it was mainly out of reflex. "No, go ahead and keep on commanding," he responde to Misato's message and looked back to see where the rest of the unit was, his visor was only barely pegging the other members of the team and the blowing snow wasn't exactly helping any. At least with this snow it would blind whatever is left of that base to our presence...

Chieko paused when she heard Misato's decision for them to go to the NMX base. She was quite sure that was the last place she would normally want to go; however with the way the weather was getting and the fact that the base was supposedly cleaned, that may be the safer option. Of course, that did not mean she had to like it was the decision of the scientist before Takeyu seemed to finish.

"Heisho," the young woman spoke up after waiting her turn, "Is it truly wise to enter that base, even in this weather? The suits can keep us warm and dry under the snow, which would protect us from the rest of the storm. Also, even if we get buried a decent amount, the suits should be powerful enough to get us out when necessary."

Msiato looked over at Cheiko, "yes i do. For a few reasons. We'll be out of this storm, two the Eucharis will know where to find us, Three, and most impotently we can just move along with the operation." She smiled behind her helmet. "And well I know we left a few fires burning there, so it might still be warm."

"Righto Heisho," Riko said as he made a hard right towards where the shuttle had landed. With one hand on the steering yoke he popped his helmet back on and sent out a quick message to his team to meet back there at the rally point, no sense in driving around in a circle before heading back there.

Waiting was bad enough, but being at the controls while the others got to take a closer look bothered Akane. She was infantry, made to fight, not to remain still and quiet. She'd been made to obey as well, so she could take orders. Being in an easier situation didn't always set well with Akane, especially when she wanted to take a closer look at the landscape, if only for inspiration for her next painting.

Chieko nodded inside her helmet, "Then let's get out of here." She watched her HUD for where everyone was, but the Troll in particular, as she waited to get picked up. In the meantime the snow was piling around the scientist, the depth half way by the time the tank had arrived.

Seeing the hulking thing show up close enough in the display, the academic got up and trudged her way over to the tank, scanning around with her LASR. Once at the door and satisfied that things were safe, she rapped a hand on the door and waited for the others to get in close enough before trying to get in.

Takeyu elected not to be inside of the tank, but instead to be riding atop of it to keep an eye out for trouble, or rather what trouble he 'could' see given the heavy blizzard but then that blizzard and the cold that came with it didn't bother him in the least... in fact, he was quite warm in his armour right now but that had nothing to do with the armors systems and more to do with his current mindset. When the troll approached Chieko, the Taii glanced a look at the scientist for a moment and gestured toward the rear hatch, then kept his eyes on the rear.

Ether's Surface - Inside Shuttle

Mitsuko was taken off guard by the response, left stuttering for a moment. By the time she worked up a proper reply, Misato had already ended communications. She was left standing at the shuttle's exit, snow building up against the forcefield. The Neko stared at her friend through the growing blizzard for a few long moments, before turning to walk inside. Soon the exit was sealing up again, snow forced out and away in a sudden rush, as Murakami began hastily prepping the shuttle for launch. She had her orders.

Grumbling about a certain stubborn Neko getting herself killed, Mitsuko hurried to lift off. The blizzard was just going to get worse, so the faster she could get above the wind, the better. Soon the shuttle would be gracelessly wobbling up and away, buffeted by the wind and snow, leaving behind little evidence she had been on Ether, beyond the lone trunk of supplies and a shuttle-shaped depression that was already quickly refilling with snow. Once safely above the obscuring storm, she'd attempt to contact the Eucharis and determine its current location, requesting permission to return.

As Takeyu continued to sit atop the tank, his HUD pinged him about the shuttle leaving, despite the snow; he could still track it through the blizzard and watched it head up. The Taii assumed that Misato had sent the shuttle away due to the storm, as the storm would make it difficult for the shuttle to be of any use right now and the possibility of it being damaged was pretty much there. Although, in the back of his mind, he'd have had the shuttle circle above the storm and on standby in case they got into some hot water; he'd ask but then he had his orders from the Shosho that Misato was incharge and that he wasn't allowed to give the soldier any advice... not exactly how 'he' would train a potential leader, leaders make mistakes, potentially even deadly ones....

The shuttle quickly received an automated response that for safety reasons, neither it nor other any ship, was allowed to enter the area where the Eucharis was conducting its live-fire training.

As the tank idled waiting for any orders to move, Bors popped out of the command hatch and was surprised to see the Taii sitting on top of the tank.

"Didn't here ya come aboard there Cheif," He said leaning back and relaxing a bit on the armored hatches ring. "It's a bit warmer inside if you get a bit tired of freezing your butt off on the hull. Only gonna get colder when we get moving again."

Seeing only Takeyu come close, Chieko decided to skip waiting and opened the door before climbing inside. She then gave Riko and Akane a nod before looking out the door to see if anyone else was coming - closing the door if it seemed no one was arriving in time to conserve at least some heat.

Orbiting Ether

Once she'd cleared the storm, it had been a smooth ride to the edge of Ether's atmosphere. The message the Eucharis had responded with had not been entirely unexpected. Settling into orbit around the planet was easy enough. After a few minutes, Mitsuko had parked the shuttle directly above the base the troops on the ground were headed for. The Neko sent a polite, formal text message down to the surface, alerting Misato to the orders from the Eucharis and her current position, in case they required assistance. She also included a note for the Heisho to reply once she'd received the message, both in case she had any further orders and to ensure communications were still functioning properly through the blizzard.

Misato jumped on top of the tank as she watched the rest of the team board and seal up. "Ok Riko I think we are all aboard start towards that base, lets get out of this storm."

She crouched down next to Takeyu and held on. As she waited for them to get moving she got the tag from Mitsuko, "Ok, then land just outside the base and prepare to join the rest of the team in the operation. Makes sure that the shuttle is locked up and secured."

She sighed and hoped the rest of the operation went a bit smoother.

With a nod Bors went back down into the Troll shutting the hatch behind him, and soon the tank lurched forward as it swiftly made its way towards the NMX Base.

As he skirted over and around snowbanks, he hoped that he wasn't rattling the crew to much the tank had fair enough suspension but it was still a tank after all. About thirty minutes of driving and with the storm almost on them the tank rolled up next to the NMX base, Bors rotated the cannon towards the door before messing Misato.

"Should I knock for us?"

Troll

"Samui desu ne?" Chieko offered everyone with some humour, after the door was closed and sealed, her smile leaking into the words though her helmet hid it. The way was a bit bumpy, but it seemed to be more the tank traveling it's full suspension and tossing her about some. It was fun, really - at least for the first while - then it became a bit much, then she was kind of happy they managed to stop somewhere.

((OOC: "It's cold out, isn't it?"))
